NZ voters ‘not fooled’ by Jacinda Ardern

  • If today's news conference with Scott Morrison is any indication, NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern believes all Kiwis, including criminals, should be entitled to “all the benefits” afforded to Australian citizens, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.
NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has criticised Australia's stringent deportation policy, saying the policy is "corrosive" damaging the Trans-Tasman relationship.
Under Australia's deportation policy, anyone who has committed a serious criminal offence will be deported to their country of origin.
Around 2,000 New Zealanders have been deported under the policy.
Ms Credlin said Ms Ardern should know that the Australian government does not make exceptions when it comes to deportation laws - even for our closest cousins.
“What we should never do is let foreign criminals remain here when they have trespassed on our goodwill, and broken our laws,” she said.
Ms Credlin added “I'm not fooled by Jacinda Arden, I doubt you're by Arden either, and if the polls are any true guide, neither it would be appear, are New Zealand voters.”

First of all, I'm one of the 650k Kiwis living in Aus. I have no intention of becoming a citizen, I don't want the Australian taxpayer to pay for me to live, I can do that. If I break the law and Australia sends me back, fair dinkum. I lived through Arderns empty promises and decided it wasn't for me. Send the bad Kiwis back, they get more rights and a hand up than your average blue collar worker anyway.
Lastly one of the major reasons social assistance was cut off to Kiwis a couple of decades ago is becausr NZ let the majority of Pacific Islanders in with automatic citizenship. A lot of these came to NZ just to be able to get into Aus and claim benefits. So NZ has only itself to blame.

@Iranian Bob I am so OVER this argument! Since the early 1800s, (from about 1790 actually!) New Zealanders have been crossing the Tasman to Australia without ANY fuss and staying as long as they wanted! As well Australians came and went to and from New Zealand! MANY of us have roots in both places. My great great grandmother's niece settled in Perth, her nephew in Armidale, NSW. My great grandfather and his son settled in Atherton, Queensland, his brother in Melbourne. My great great great grandfather Hill, first settled in Australia and lived there for a number of years before bringing his son to NZ in 1853. My point is that it was accepted for MANY years that we were "kin". The story of the ANZACS should tell you that! And when kiwis arrived and lived in Australia there was zero reason to even think about citizenship. In fact for a great number of years, being a "British Subject" was all that was necessary! Personally, I went to Sydney in the late 1970s and lived there for two years - I thought I would stay forever but things changed and I returned to another part of Australasia (New Zealand). I never contemplated for ONE minute that I should seek citizenship in Australia, NOT because I didn't want it, but because I never even thought of it! THAT was how it was! And then suddenly, (I suspect around the time that NZ's non-Euro citizen's were moving over the ditch) some of your more un-christian politicians worried about the browning of Oz! that they gave Australasia new rules whereby they hoped to stem the flow of brown people into pure white hallowed Australia! THAT is the truth of it and all your talk of other reasons is just deflection. It has NOTHING to do with any choices to obtain citizenship! In fact New Zealanders face EXTRA hurdles to get Aussie citizenship! It's as if politicians like ScoMo and his cohort, past and present, do NOT want NZ cousins anywhere near their country. Despise!

And it is NOT just nasty to those of us who are criminally intent - there are difficulties that have been attached to ordinary kiwi Aussies too! Did you even listen to Ms Ardern's offering? This dialogue is ended because I sense that you are not to be moved!

But we as a population don’t agree on the national party leader as a prime minister. Future not looking great. I'm kiwi and I actually agree. Why should a kiwi be able just go there and live off the tax paying Australian. As far as deportation. People have spent the better part of their lives over there and should be alowd to call it home. Send back the kiwis that don't contribute. That's fair. Australia's got enough dropkicks to deal with anyway. It's a great stepping stone for kiwis for travel and education though. I do hope there is a middle ground that can be found. I feel allowing kiwis to live there if they contribute to society is a benifit to Australia. Send back the kiwis that don't have any intention of contributing though

yes i agree. this can really be a good start at breaking the whole idea of trans tasman friendship that was 100 years ago. im from nz and this should prompt the nz government from giving up automatic residency to australians and just giving it to those of nz territories and australia should do the same. if nz actually opened its economy to different countries than to just china and australia than it could be possible. nz and australia are now completely different from each other and that should be realized on both sides. deport our fellow nzers who do not contribute to aus and we would deport those that dont contribute to nz to australia.

Further, Australian citizens are given more rights in NZ when they migrate than kiwis do when they migrate to Australia. It’s all about fairness. IMO there are some easy solutions to this problem.
