Ardern government policies have created a ‘Maori elite’ who rely on ‘victimhood’

  • The policies of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s government have led to the creation of a “Maori elite” which relies on “Maori victimhood,” according to Hobson’s Pledge founding trustee Casey Costello.
Hobson’s Pledge is a New Zealand lobby group which advocates for equality before the law regardless of race in the face of Maori bureaucratic bodies taking control over large areas of life in the country.
“We’ve had the introduction of the Three Waters Reform legislation which is effectively removing control and ownership of water from the local bodies and councils that own those assets into these massive entities which will be 50 per cent controlled by Iwi,” she told Sky News Australia.
“Bearing in mind New Zealand’s Maori population is only 17 per cent.”
Ms Costello said she was particularly concerned by an “undermining” of the democratic process which has been taking place.
“It’s predicated on the concept that all Maori, we all think alike. This idea of self-determination must rely on the fact that all Maori identify with the same views, the same political outlooks, the same needs,” she said.
“What we've actually created is a Maori elite, that their careers, their livelihoods, their relevance, relies on a Maori victimhood and we’ve lost sight of outcomes.”

The worst part of it is as long as you identify as being Maori, then you're Maori, and you qualify for all the grants, scholarships and tax-payer charity. So race too has now become an ideology, and then the rest of us are put at an ideological disadvantage. The moment you give one 'race' an advantage over another you're exercising racist policies

This isn't a rabbit hole of an issue, Casey has given a salient reveal of our dire situation here in New Zealand but no one dares to speak boldly like her out of fear and being a pariah. We're treading on eggshells in this woke culture that's emerging like a festering blister. We've lost Garrick Tremaine our last inspirational satirist, cartoonist and artist whom for many years was prolific almost daily in delivering the bitter irony of every day topics in our ODT morning news paper. He was sacked because he spoke the truth .
Casey Costello is a brave and earnest. I hope she is well protected. She's a treasure.

She and Don Brash have worked so hard at being our voice... unfortunately those who only rely on local media and who are fed Ardern spin are completely brainwashed... some have woken up but many are still in the "isn't so lovely" stage... she may look lovely but her socialist policies are incredibly dangerous and she has stripped away our democracy... our men and women fought world wars to ensure we had freedom of speech and we did have it... until Ardern.

Unfortunately on every continent there was Tribe against Tribe, and nation against nation. thats how life was dog eat dog until about a hundred years ago…no one in this generation is responsible for past generations …No one holds Maori people responsible for the Moriori people suffering murder, their slow genocide, slavery and mayhem. I grew up as a victim and I am a victor now who cannot change what the English did to my ancestors nor what my abusive father did too me. I will not stay in yesterday nor pass it tomorrow to my grandchildren. I choose victory, and tomorrow is a new day of opportunity for me now and for anyone else who CHOOSES it. Anything else halts progress. All people in this generation are to be respected as those made in the image of our God. Stop absurdly holding people responsible for what dead people did hundreds of years ago it is nothing but a victim mentality maturity into become a person with control issues.

Sounds like it's really about Adern's feminist politics and her political correctness. We have a similar problem in Australia with feminists in politics who try to consolidate their power, by trying to appeal to identity groups, like the indigenous and refugees, immigrants etc who are like eternal victims. They keep feeding them and that ensures these groups become dependent on these feminist politicians for all their many lurks and perks they get given. And, obviously, to keep all the goodies coming, they need to say how great the feminist "sisterhood" is, so bountiful, taking good care of them (all on wasted taxpayer money, of course, never their own salaries). And so these "victim groups" eg migrants and indigenous etc keep voting for them. It's like a kind of political machine they have set up. To suit themselves, by letting these victim groups think they care about their welfare.

Dont know how true the story was but the journalist was a good friend I had known for quite some time who was adamant the story was true. Solution just keep giving them whatever they want so more real estate can be sold on to the chinese. What a selfish lot, one day its all going to fall apart and the communist running the show will keep bringing in more communists. There will never be cohesiveness in society and always two nations within a nation under these rules. You could see this was coming when, over a decade ago, the idea was floated that NZ was BI-cultural. Maori and everybody else. As if the culture of the French is the same as the culture of the Japanese or Chinese or Indians or British or any other peoples who contributed to the building of this country. I must question how is the level of "Maori-ness" factored? Is it 5 Great Grandparents? 6? 7? I suppose they took the process from the Wannsee Conference, and we all know how well that worked out for everybody. Another blind spot in this entire thing is that something like 50% of Maori are in relationships (either marriage or common law) with those of non Maori heritage.

It's an extremely racist country. If you're white you cannot open your mouth. White is now 2nd class. It's a great country for Maoris. This started a long time ago, long before I left. Ironically my 2 brothers are both married to women classed as Maori. You need some small fraction of Maori blood to be classified as Maori. The country is a mess and I'm glad to see the back of it.

Most pakeha Kiwis have nowhere else to go but are not considered indigenous! My advice to Australia is don't go down the NZ trail. This is how ridiculous these policies have become. The Morioris put a claim against the crown for grievances we're still trying to work out. Maori sailed to the Chatham Islands and murdered them enslaving the survivors. The crown had nothing to do with their demise. Those claimants aren't seeking reparations from Maori.
