Every single word of this song broke me. My dad died 11 days ago. Music was our thing. He loved all kinds of music. All ages, styles. It didnt matter to him. Good music is good music. He taught me that. I cant put it into words, as we all know music can serve as a snapshot in ur mind of a time and place back when . But this song sums up what im left with perfectly. Running from it. Accepting it. Reliving it with every song . "Even if the whole world has forgotten, the song remembers when" 💔 ill never forget u dad n ill one day hopefully be able to liaten to the songs u loved n not crumble. But smile instead. If anyone else here is hurting, struggling n going threw hard times currently or just remebwring them, or naybe even breaking apart, like me. Keep going. Fight like hell. And always get back up. It cant always rain. The sun has to shine eventually. 💜
In my opinion this is one of the greatest songs ever written and sung by one of the greatest voices ever. It has haunted me from the very first time I heard it and is one that evokes raw emotion in me.
I was married to my husband 15 years when this song came out. It made me realize that every day we had a song. If we heard one driving we would pull over and dance on the side of the road, if there was music we were dancing. we were married for forty two years, and we still danced. We went to a George Strait concert and we got up, went up stairs and we were dancing to my husbands very favorite song. I lost him to cancer but I had the music on in the house all day and night so he could still hear it. and every once in a while I could see his fingers move to the music. I didn't want hospice. We weren't perfect, but we had a lot of make-up songs to fit the bill..
Now I remember why I love listening to this song in a daily basis. The relation that you and your partner had was one of the most rarest in the world nowadays. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for sharing your story.
I was in a hardware store waiting to pay for my goods and this song came over the loud speakers. From the first note I recognized it though I hadn't heard it in years. I teared up. Came home and looked for this video, and I don''t remember ever seeing it before. Trisha's eyes are the kind that you can drown in. Garth Brooks is a lucky man, to have such a soulful voice to wake up to every day.
I absolutely love Trisha Yearwood's voice and song choices. She obviously takes time to pick songs with deep lyrical meaning. Hugh Prestwood hit this one out of the park with his writing, and Trisha's voice made this a country classic. Wow.
Don't comment on songs very often but this is PERFECT. The voice the musicians, I have no idea who wrote this, but I think most of us have lived this. Its so good that it gives you CHILLS.
Lyrics: I was standing at the counter I was waitin' for the change When I heard that old familiar music start It was like a lighted match Had been tossed into my soul It was like a dam had broken in my heart After taking every detour Gettin' lost and losin' track So that even if I wanted I could not find my way back After drivin' out the memory of the way things might have been After I'd forgotten all about us The song remembers when We were rollin' through the Rockies We were up above the clouds When a station out of Jackson played that song And it seemed to fit the moment And the moment seemed to freeze When we turned the music up and sang along And there was a God in Heaven And the world made perfect sense We were young and were in love and we were easy to convince We were headed straight for Eden It was just around the bend And though I had forgotten all about it The song remembers when I guess something must've happened And we must've said goodbye And my heart must have been broken Though I can't recall just why The song remembers when Well for all the miles between us And for all the time that's passed You would think I haven't gotten very far And I hope my hasty heart Will forgive me just this once If I stop to wonder how on earth you are But that's just a lot of water Underneath the bridge, I've burned And there's no use in backtracking around corners I have turned Still, I guess some things we bury Are just bound to rise again And even if the whole world had forgotten The song remembers when Yeah, even if the whole world has forgotten The song remembers when
The song does remember when, but so does the heart. It's these memories that keep me going, even though he's left this life on earth. I know he waits for me. I fell in love with him at first sight, when I was 16. He asked me to marry him before we even went on our second date, and I told him yes. He died just a bit less than two months before our 37th wedding anniversary. He still made my heart give a little jump whenever I saw him. Yes, my heart remembers when.
Ahhh Ms. Sandra Daughtridge, now, I'm tearing up with you too.... He sounds like he was such a cool & brave Good Dude... I sincerely hope this finds you well & healthy, in April of 2020. Your guy wouldn't accept you to give up, much less quit. There's NO QUIT in your DNA. Ms, you're NOT hard wired for that. Respectfully, Santiago Murillo.
What a beautiful love story! I believe in love at first sight because I experienced it myself. So special to marry your first love. You were blessed indeed!
Sandra, God is good, and because of JESUS sacrifice ... We all have real hope. You can count on your heart to know that your Love Will. Be Waiting on you to join him someday . God Bless. 😌
This song is so beautiful and so very true! I have survived brain aneurysm rupture and stroke and have some memory loss but every time I hear a song, the song remembers when. This song is special to me because it reminds me of one of the best times of my life!
Always loved this one. Music is a trigger. And this tune reminds me of my 1st love.. 54 now ..I was 20 then ..he is married and lives in a different country. I am married too and have been for over 20 years..but we shared a lot of music...and a tune can bring me right back there...Thank you, Trisha...Kelly
"I was standing at the counter, I was waiting for the change, when I heard that old familiar music start. It was like a lighted match had been tossed into my soul, it like a dam had broken in my heart" From the moment I heard those words, I knew that the perfect song had been written about what music does to the soul!
nathan weimer I should thank Jim? I think he's moved on..Ha! BTW, do you remember when this song came out? Back in 1993?! Time flies, eh? Back then I thought I'd stay 'Forever Young'..but that's whole `nother song. LOL
Hugh Prestwood wrote this one, and the first time I played it on KTMO in 1993, I just leaned back in the chair and started the next song and all but lost it. Thanks to Hugh and Trisha for making it happen. Some things we bury indeed, do rise again.
You are SO wrong - I was just about to write a comment to thank RJ for mentioning Hugh Prestwood!! The song and the songwriter are especially important and respected in country music -- that's why the TV show Nashville started and kept coming back to The Bluebird Cafe, the most famous of the many venues in Nashville where songwriters >must< play only their original songs. There is something magical about hearing the song you love sung by the songwriter who wrote it! (At the BB they often tell stories about the writing of the song -- it's magical.)
Hello👋 Shelley. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
This song speaks directly to the intense heart gripping power of a single....song. It can cause a dam full of backed up emotions to gush out with sudden intensity. It’s true- some things we bury, are bound to rise again.💕💕
Just love this song. The lyrics are so true. Every day I hear a song and it takes me back to a place in my life, somtimes good and sometimes not so good. I'm okay with that though. That was life at that time and most of the memories are good.
From the very first chord, Trisha transports you back to the very moment in time when your heart was broken. The time when you last remember happienss and love. In the lyrics you find yourself walking through each experience over in your mind and if for only a second in time you catch yourself asking, "why?" For some, it could be as short a few weeks but in some cases like mine you could be 25 years hindsight and still wondering the same question. Yes, pull your boots on but "Remember when"
This came through in my Spotify rotation.....this is an incredibly well written and performed song that I've not heard in years. The beauty of music is being able to live with it forever.
🥀One of the most Beautiful song's I've ever heard from Trisha it's a timeless classic story teller and she done a powerful but soothing way of expressing her feelings. I can feel her lyrics! That's a true artist🥀☝️🥀
I think she's is absolutely the MOST BEAUTIFUL artist and her and Garth are adorable together they really go together. I'm from Tulsa, well Muskogee what's 20 minutes. Y'all sat beside my niece at a restaurant y'all frequent on Lyn's birthday a few years back. I can't think of the restaurant. Jamilles yeah that's it. Lol. I'm 54 single never married and if I could find her identical twin voice and all I'd be in love. Sorry Garth that's a compliment don't beat me up. LoL. Love you Both!!!! Tell Ms Reba howdy.
I wonder where you are, but listen to the Words of this Song because they are dedicated to you and the WONDERFUL LIFE WE SHARED. YOU WERE TAKEN MANY YEARS AGO. BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER ALL THE LOVE ❤ WE SHARED .I WILL NEVER STOP WANTING TO BE WITH YOU REMEMBER ME KEITH ALWAYS. KNOW I STILL LOVE YO❤❤❤❤U
I'm not usually a country music fan but i heard this song on The Voice tonight, liked it immediately and wanted to hear the original. This was worth looking for! Musically it's very ry good but those lyrics! As others have mentioned music has amazing time-traveling power. Some songs really do open up a fresh/new old memory. One for the playlist!
Songs so define an era or a feeling...this one has taken me to so many memories of so many songs ---where I was and who I was with---decades and decades ago. This one gets to me every time. It is so beautifully written and this version with the balanced strings enhances her perfect delivery. Hearing her sing it in person is on my lifetime bucket list!
Hello👋 Charlotte. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
I know this may sound corny, but it is true. I am not a country music fan but my girlfriend at the time was. I am not a fan of dancing either. I had just parked the car and we were going into the store as a big pickup truck parked near us and this song was playing. I grabbed my girlfriend and started to dance with her in the parking lot. The couple noticed us and cranked it up for us. She loved it and this song will always mean a lot to me. Thanks Trisha
❤....wow.... what a moment.... to stop and think.... and i have never forgotten.... and i never will.... even if the whole world does.... thiis being a beautiful song.... and one of the best singers of all time.... love....❤
I'm 68 now and have saved up lots of memories about her (not Trisha BTW - - my significant other) on my playlist. Trisha hit this nail on the head. So many of those songs can take me right back to a moment, a place, the perfume or cigarette smoke, a room on the Vegas strip, . . . . . . at 68 they'll still make me laugh or even put a tear in my eye. Three chords and the truth will get you every time when it's from the heart.
I just got to see Miss Trisha and Garth a couple weeks ago- uhhhhh I died a little- I've wanted to see Trisha since I was a little girl- she looked and sounded amazing - ❤️🤟 they both put on an amazing show 😭

I'm 20 years old and just heard this song for the first time - it gave me the chills. Wow. Somebody said "the song remembers when" was a good song from under the comments section of a TH-cam video of of L.A Freeway by Guy Clarke, and boy am I glad I listened to it in the end. I feel like I could lie in a hammock under the summer sun and hum this tune for hours...
The song remembers yes how long do we remember?some remember the good times and some remember the bad . But as we live life , I think it’s best if we recalled a life of happiness and love with disappointment ,to rise us back to happiness peacefully with kindness and love
Hello👋 Sandy. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Okay….. Let me start by saying that I’m not a country music fan or a Trisha Yearwood fan. I don’t own a single one of her records. I spelled her name Tricia in this post & had to fix it twice. However, for almost thirty years now, I’ve thought this was one of the most perfectly written songs that I’ve ever heard, and that the vocal performance by Trisha Yearwood is absolutely flawless. Sometimes the singer and the song are a perfect marriage. I think that this particular song is a prime example of that. For me, it really doesn’t get much better than this! It really is perfection.
Hugh Prestwood wrote this song, inspired by an Anne Sexton poem. Peter Gabriel wrote Mercy Street, inspired by a different poem of hers. Both of these songs affected me so deeply.
It's a beautiful "love" song and wonderfully performed. But much more than that, it's the best illustration I have encountered, over decades of listening and learning, of the great power of music to transcend barriers: even those of time itself. Kudos to all those responsible for this great performance.
I was going to add this timeless Yearwood country classic to my top 10 throwback faves, but regrettably it came out in 1993. Still, it's a good song. #Only1994
I think this song means . She had forgotten all about them , until she heard that song . All her memories of him , came flooding back . Of what might have been . Some things are better left alone . Because it will never be like it once was . The Song Remember When
Anyone who feels music as their foundation to recall memories understands why I have a special love for Trisha. As I listened to her sing about life it always takes me to the times of my life. The song remembers when. I've always been a little bit jealous of Garth.
I agree in part with what this song says, but only in part. Because your heart will also eternally remember the good ol' days of love. Songs like this one remind you why those memories will always be good ones. God forbid that the beautiful days in the sun should ever turn sour, but like this song says 'The Song Remembers When'.
Just had somebody else come up to me and tell me "You look so much like Trisha Yearwood". I have heard that about a dozen times through the last 20 years. As we both get older I still hear it. Such a beautiful voice.

"...We were rollin' through the Rockies We were up above the clouds When a station out of Jackson played that song And it seemed to fit the moment And the moment seemed to freeze When we turned the music up and sang along And there was a God in Heaven And the world made perfect sense We were young and were in love and we were easy to convince We were headed straight for Eden It was just around the bend And though I had forgotten all about it The song remembers when..." Those lyrics go right to my soul.
Dislikes are stupid. Trisha is one of the best female country singers out there. She's got a little bit of a twang, and she definitely knows how to turn a note.
Hello👋 Cecilia. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
this song always spoke to me, since i heard it for the first time at 8 years old. Now that i listen to it again i realize the depth and truth of the lyrics. there are so many songs that bring back memories both good and painful.
This will always take me back to a lost relationship. The emotional lyrical content is already great, but add Trisha's vocals and it's just a heartbreaking killer of a song.
Oh the memories this song holds in my heart. Thank you for coming Houston. It was a 25+ year dream that I never thought would materialize. Thank you both for sharing your gifts with the world. We cannot thank you enough. God bless you all.
Can't believe it was this far back. Songs like this define my first love in high school. It carried into the early 2000's until it died, but songs like this put me right back in it. Heartbreaking but at the same time, I've never felt so much since. Music just doesn't have this kind of power anymore, mostly because artists just aren't as good. It's not really their fault; the best have already happened.
The first time I heard this song, I had to pull off the road and listen. I think my heart broke all over again for a love lost years before. To this day, I can't hear this song without mourning that lost love. Thank you for a song that always stirs my heart. 😢
Who's reminiscing in 2024?
One of my most favorite songs of all time!

Me...
In my personal opinion one of the most magnificent voices in all of country music and music alike. ❤❤❤ Trisha Yearwood
Except when she screeches like most other female country singer
She's even better live.
Favorite line: "and even if the whole world has forgotten - the song remembers when." Simply beautiful! 💖 😢

This has to be one of my all time favourite songs - it tells a story that most of us have lived through - it's pure, real and timeless.

I went to music school with Trisha...and I've never heard her sing a wrong note...she has a cry in her voice and is a flawless singer.
You are so lucky to have known her!! I love her she's absolutely amazing!
Can I ask what school it was?? How lucky you are!

I totally get this 💯
The song was written by Hugh Prestwood, who also wrote “Asking us to Dance”, for Kathy Mattea
This is the kind of song you hear for the first time, but have experienced a thousand times before.
I am a songwriter too, and this is one of the best songs ever done in any category. Only those who have lived this totally get it. Of which I am one.

Omg yess no one can tell a story like Trisha she sings so effortlessly and sounds so beautiful doing it she's very sweet too met her in January
You must not have been around as long as I have been. There have been a number of truly great story tellers....Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Patsy Cline...

So even if I'd forgotten all about it;
The song remembered when.

Absolutely 💯
Me too Haunting
Me tooooo!
I Think about Him Every Now 'N' Then...The Song Remembers When...❤❤
I lost my wife at a early age of 33 tears old. God came and took her home. I'm 61 now and my Song stills Remembers When.
I so very sorry in my heart for you Charles...God bless you.
Jay Sutphin thank you. I knew her my whole life and was my best friend too.She is alive and well in my heart till mine stops.
*****
thank you John. felt as the air I breath was take from me. I can say I thought and wished I would have died with her.
I also lost my first wife when she was only 33. I am now 59 and I agree with you. The song remembers when as do I.
charles hayes
She's has one one the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. This is one of my all time favorite Trisha yearwood songs. Along with Georgia rain.
What I love about this song is that evokes that sense of yesterday and blends it to now. Such a voice and a lovely sentiment indeed!
"Even if the whole world has forgotten, the song remembers when."
😢😔😊
im so sorry for your loss
Now I remember why I love listening to this song in a daily basis. The relation that you and your partner had was one of the most rarest in the world nowadays. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for sharing your story.
It was and is something very different...that is what made us great
Looks like you and your husband wrote a song of your very own and it was beautiful. Thank you for that imagery. What a love you had x
Lyrics:
I was standing at the counter
I was waitin' for the change
When I heard that old familiar music start
It was like a lighted match
Had been tossed into my soul
It was like a dam had broken in my heart
After taking every detour
Gettin' lost and losin' track
So that even if I wanted I could not find my way back
After drivin' out the memory of the way things might have been
After I'd forgotten all about us
The song remembers when
We were rollin' through the Rockies
We were up above the clouds
When a station out of Jackson played that song
And it seemed to fit the moment
And the moment seemed to freeze
When we turned the music up and sang along
And there was a God in Heaven
And the world made perfect sense
We were young and were in love and we were easy to convince
We were headed straight for Eden
It was just around the bend
And though I had forgotten all about it
The song remembers when
I guess something must've happened
And we must've said goodbye
And my heart must have been broken
Though I can't recall just why
The song remembers when
Well for all the miles between us
And for all the time that's passed
You would think I haven't gotten very far
And I hope my hasty heart
Will forgive me just this once
If I stop to wonder how on earth you are
But that's just a lot of water
Underneath the bridge, I've burned
And there's no use in backtracking around corners I have turned
Still, I guess some things we bury
Are just bound to rise again
And even if the whole world had forgotten
The song remembers when
Yeah, even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when
The song does remember when, but so does the heart.
Sandra Daughtridge what a beautiful comment.
You can count on your heart to know that your Love
Will. Be Waiting on you to join him someday . God Bless. 😌
Hello Sandra
The perfect singer singing one of the best songs ever written. A perfect combination.
Hello there Mary nice meeting you here
Absolutely 💯
This song gets me every time! Trisha’s voice is amazing and she is a one of a kind story teller. The lyrics touch my ♥️ heart
This song is so beautiful and so very true! I have survived brain aneurysm rupture and stroke and have some memory loss but every time I hear a song, the song remembers when. This song is special to me because it reminds me of one of the best times of my life!
Amazing how one song can bring back a ton of memories
"It was like a lighted match had been tossed into my soul" - Perfectly describing what certain songs can do to you.
👍👍👍💯💯💯
Omg I haven’t heard this song in years 😭
Always loved this one.
It was like a lighted match had been tossed into my soul, it like a dam had broken in my heart"
From the moment I heard those words, I knew that the perfect song had been written about what music does to the soul!
you named it. you own it. great way to put it.
Kinda neat I was too
@nathan weimer
Thanks very much. Three yrs later..LOL. Still a very powerful song!
I must say thank you too cause it took each of us...I just get More credit then I sometime deserve....
nathan weimer
I should thank Jim?
Hands down my favorite song by Trisha. That strong voice gives me chills
Hello👋 dear. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Absolutely stunning! This song breaks my heart every single time I hear it! It reminds me of my ex-husband and I. Thank you, Trisha!
Hello Carol
Just love this song. The lyrics are so true. Every day I hear a song and it takes me back to a place in my life, somtimes good and sometimes not so good. I'm okay with that though. That was life at that time and most of the memories are good.
Greatest female voice of country music ever in my opinion. Thank you Trisha. 😊
Yes, pull your boots on but "Remember when"
Thank goodness! Now I know I’m not the only one who feels the meaning of this lovely song at the deepest level, especially when it’s sung this well!
This came through in my Spotify rotation.....this is an incredibly well written and performed song that I've not heard in years. The beauty of music is being able to live with it forever.
one of the most amazing voices of our time. i wish she were doing more music like this.
Trisha is one of the best singers ever to grace Nashville .
Yes I still listen to this song in 2021 absolutely love it one of my favorite songs
Well why the hell not...... here we go!
something like that lol

One of the best songs ever written and what a wonderful artist to sing it!!!
Definitely one of my all time Top 10 songs of all time.
Ive heard no attempts at covering this fantadtic masterpiece of a song, a performance. Dont even consider it.❤
The song remembers yes how long do we remember?some remember the good times and some remember the bad .
You seem like a real country girl
i sang this song with a feeling just the other day. I cried while I was singing. It took me back to my high school days 1991, when i was happy.
It's so touching. A lot of us have been there....
I've loved this song for years, Trisha is a country music icon.
It's a beautiful "love" song and wonderfully performed. But much more than that, it's the best illustration I have encountered, over decades of listening and learning, of the great power of music to transcend barriers: even those of time itself. Kudos to all those responsible for this great performance.
I always hold this as an example of the perfectly crafted song.
Very nostalgic...everyone has moments like those described in this song.
The Song Remember When
Thank you for replying to my comment .
Anyone who feels music as their foundation to recall memories understands why I have a special love for Trisha. As I listened to her sing about life it always takes me to the times of my life. The song remembers when. I've always been a little bit jealous of Garth.
Love this song. She sings it so tenderly.
... this beautiful song makes me cry every time, and I don't miss an opportunity to stop and listen!
I agree in part with what this song says, but only in part. Because your heart will also eternally remember the good ol' days of love. Songs like this one remind you why those memories will always be good ones. God forbid that the beautiful days in the sun should ever turn sour, but like this song says 'The Song Remembers When'.
25年後再聽時
就像我25年前買了Trisha Yearwood的專輯時一樣的好聽感觸內心
Just had somebody else come up to me and tell me "You look so much like Trisha Yearwood". I have heard that about a dozen times through the last 20 years. As we both get older I still hear it. Such a beautiful voice.
I used to get that too . I never saw it .
Lucky girl!

Those lyrics go right to my soul.
Hello there Nancy nice meeting you here
May the Lord be with you and your family if you believe say Amen 🙏🙌
Nobody does a broken hearted song about a lost love better than Trisha. This one, Georgia Rain, Walk away Joe... just perfect.
MY GOD GIRL!! If you sing to Garth like that, I can see why he adores you. ❤
I am a song writer as well and yes this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written to me I love her voice with it 💜
this song always spoke to me, since i heard it for the first time at 8 years old. Now that i listen to it again i realize the depth and truth of the lyrics. there are so many songs that bring back memories both good and painful.
I love this song so much. Trisha's voice is so gorgeous and warm.
My favorite of everything she's done
Beautiful lyrics ..it seems you always remember the song that was popular when you were with someone that meant something to you..love this song.
This will always take me back to a lost relationship. The emotional lyrical content is already great, but add Trisha's vocals and it's just a heartbreaking killer of a song.
One of the saddest songs I've ever heard and that's Exactly why I Love it. Brings tears to my eyes every time.
OMG what a wonderful song. And she is so beautiful. I love her so much.
Most beautiful song her voice is so great proud to say she is from my state of Gerogia❤️🙏🏻✝️☮️🎊🌹
It's not really their fault; the best have already happened.
how right you are.
Deeply touching. I imagine most people can identify. Music does have a way of bookmarking our experiences, and then bringing them back to mind. 💖💖💖💖
The first time I heard this song, I had to pull off the road and listen. I think my heart broke all over again for a love lost years before. To this day, I can't hear this song without mourning that lost love. Thank you for a song that always stirs my heart. 😢
Me as well.
May the Lord be with you and your family if you believe say Amen 🙏🙌
