Oh my God, what a monster!!! I feel almost no passion in modern racing cars, but this is something else. I feel a Group C vibe again. Racing cars are meant to breathe fire, not to be crippled by artificial restrictions. Let them spread their wings again!
Alex Crom 94 Sound doesn't really matter if the racing is good, the races are exciting, the championships are open, and the technology is enthralling. Hybrids are awesome, both on the race track and in traffic; naturally not every hybrid cars, but most of them.

yea that without any kind of restriction a WEC car can give 8 tens to a 2017 car. Wait for summer when F1 will go back to SPA for this little record to be smashed while still respecting rules.
Ai this has no sense. Actual F1 is actually limited. If a F1 cars was removed from rev limit and fuel flux and stupid halo it would absolutely annihilate WEC. No contest on which one is faster
F1 cars have more power from ICE while being much lighter (this car is >800kg), yet this is faster, and potentially even faster once/if they would optimize the setups etc. correctly. So I don't see the point saying F1 is more limited like the 919 wouldn't. It is still based on the WEC car with tiny 2l 4-banger and powerful but heavy hybrid system.
It wasn't really suddenly massively faster, was just an evolution of Group 6. The first quarter of Le Mans was always slow as hell because noone wanted to burn any fuel! natural development made stuff fast by the end ( the '91 cars were running mid-pack F1 qualifying times and that's with race-legal parts ) but that was a natural progression & pretty much what killed it. Not very happy that we've ended up in exactly the same place. Group C all over again, for sure.
@@AppleLauda_destroyer99942 Yeah buddy, Porsche is faster in terms of raw speed on the straights. But you do know, that F1 has an engine restriction, right?
The record for the fastest lap in spa francorchamps is held by lewis hamilton he boarded his Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 with a 1:41.252 beating the 1:41.770 of the porsche 919 evo
Sebastian Vettel (1:41.501), Kimi Räikkönen (1:41.533) and Lewis Hamilton (1:41.553) just crushed the record with Ferrari & Mercedes cars that have to comply to strong regulations. Only rain prevented even faster times in Q3. Try harder next time, Porsche. :P

Not much really to derestrict with an F1 car. Maybe fuel flow and removal of halo, slight addition of downforce but otherwise they are already on the limit. No more than a second gain I reckon
I don't know about that. Porsche have always been the team to beat when it comes to sportscar racing but they don't really exactly have a great track record when it comes to open wheelers other than when won the championship twice with a rebadged Porsche(TAG) back in the 80s.
truly remarkable, the speed at Eau Rouge is impressive, I saw the video on board at the Ring and it is even more crazy, almost unreal, to see the speed of cornering. When Porsche decides to produce a new "monster" it always takes an extraordinary commitment and in this regard, the project and construction of the 917, the most iconic racing car of all time, comes to mind.

The most incredible race car I ever saw. One second beter than F1 it is a stuning result. It is a true race car, not only the same acceleration or top speed project..
This Car weights 850 kg (1873 lbs ) and generates a downforce about 950 kg ( 2094 lbs ). That is, he can theoretically drive along the ceiling in a tunnel (as long as he got faster than 120 km/h = 74 mph.
WEC Hybrid endurance cars, with the same amount of horsepower if not less than the F1 cars, are lapping a race track faster? No wonder FIA F1 is being concerned about the future of F1. Absolutely fantastic footage and what a sound through those gears! THANK YOU!
Without taking anything away from this stellar performance, we must clarify some concepts: - An LMP1 car hans an aerodynamic advantage, thanks to the four wheels being completely covered (while an F1 car has a HUGE drag penalty and less efficients airflows around the car, because of that). - 4WD transmission (instead of RWD like all F1 cars have) - A bigger hybrid system (they could easily hit 1100/1200hp during the 24 hours of Le Mans already) So, as you can see, an LMP1 car has a series of advantages. Nothing beats F1. This record is no more. Too bad the final part of qualifying was ruined by rain... the cars would have easily improved up to the 1:41:00 mark... if not more as is usual with final qualifying runs.
Two things to note: Number one: This car has no rules or regulations binding it. If it makes it go faster, it's on the car. Number two: If F1 engineers built a car with no restrictions, drivers would have to wear G-suits to be able to stay conscious. The whole point of Formula 1 is to beat the formula and the rule makers. Find the loopholes. To build the fastest car possible within a set of rules you are given. If we were building cars with active aero, 1700bhp, 4WD, jet turbines sucking the car down, sliding skirts, diffusers the size of continents, wings that span from here to the moon, hybrid systems that give 700bhp extra and 1500nm of torque.. That said, it would be interesting if the formula for LMP1 cars was pushed to a level where they could go this fast. Too bad the yearly development costs would be 3x what they were in 2015.
The whole point of F1 back in it's day was about being the fastest and technically advanced race cars in the world, yeah obviously F1 had to be held back years ago but Bernie would not be happy seeing a prototype Le Mans car be faster then F1 cars of today (the so called pinnacle of motor sport). I find it kind of funny to see this happen as F1 has been dull for years (hopefully that changes over the coming years) regardless if this Porsche 919 does have not have follow any series restrictions.
regular LMPs don't match up to F1 cars on a circuit because the latter is just TOO fast in corners (LMPs DO accelerate faster though). The Evo, on the other hand ....
Walliser said it takes around 24 months for Motorsport tech to feature in production Porsches, well GT models I think, I just wonder what we gonna have from this masterpiece! (that V4 please, maybe replace that boxer four from the Cayman)
Daniel B OK. Dynamic aero. Traction control. Torque control. Unrestricted power. Build for 1 fast lap and just 8 tens quicker than an f1 car which did the same lap in a race without any assists, with restrictions, with limited power, without any dynamic aero on slower tires. If you ask me it's very impressive for an LMP1 car but you must be ignorant if you think this would not easily be smashed by a F1 with the restrictions the Porsche had. Also it's German engeneering what do you expect?
Philipp Wilmer even with restrictions F1 is at its limit, it is designed to run in single lap as fast as possible, LMPs however is designed to do 24 hours, what else you think they can do to to improve current F1 lap time? Increase power? So can LMP, reduce weight? So can LMP, downforce? So can LMP, and LMP will have high speed aero F1 dream to have, since history F1 has only advantage over LMP and that is weight nothing more, it is the only reason F1 is faster in a single lap nothing more, certainly this ain’t the case.
Ai f1 over 10 seconds quicker than lmp1 at spa .A year old f1 car can beat this one lap time attack unrestricted lmp1 car with only one modification (unlimited drs) . I don't think you seem to understand that this 919 evo has no restrictions THIS IS A UNRESTRICTED LMP1 CAR , porsche has made it as fast as possible, yet it's slower than a heavily restricted 2018 f1 car . Also f1 only 1 lap ??? lol current f1 engines have to last 7 races , the only get 2 components on the electrical side for THE WHOLE 21 RACE SEASON . modern f1 cars are ridiculously reliable. You saw last year all the lmp1s broke down at le mans, even the winning car had the go in the garage for an hour. only 1 lmp1 car manged to beat the lmp2 cars . Even a f1 car from 2004 is faster than the 2017 lmp1 . F1 IS MUCH MORE THAN SINGLE LAP PACE . An f1 car with this level of work put into it will anhialate the 919 evo . Ask anybody f1 is faster than lmp1
F1 took the record back this weekend at SPA during practice 3 with a 1:41.6 . Too bad it was a wet qualifying otherwise we would have seen low 1:40s in the 2018 F1 car..
Ai it is not what it used to be. But if you look at this car and what F1 is from a power unit standpoint + adders the power is similar. Keep in mind Porsche is using a 2.0L engine not 1.6L and has a trick electric all wheel drive system. What is holding F1 back is a lack of competitive budgets and capping staff. Let teams engineer and design with no restrictions except a budget cap like in professional sports leagues.

I find it kind of funny to see this happen as F1 has been dull for years (hopefully that changes over the coming years) regardless if this Porsche 919 does have not have follow any series restrictions.
The rate of speed in those turns reminds of r/c races. That car is hauling ass. Incredible driver and awesome reaction speed.
I’d love to see an F1-LMP mixed class event.
regular LMPs don't match up to F1 cars on a circuit because the latter is just TOO fast in corners (LMPs DO accelerate faster though). The Evo, on the other hand ....
@@IschmarVI excuse me this hybrid porsche can compete with f1 😁👌
this video is much much better than the top gear ones.
Walliser said it takes around 24 months for Motorsport tech to feature in production Porsches, well GT models I think, I just wonder what we gonna have from this masterpiece! (that V4 please, maybe replace that boxer four from the Cayman)
I felt the G force in my stomach 2:28
22 f1 drivers didnt like this
Daniel B OK.
Yup, one more adds to 23rd.
Philipp Wilmer hey, I just have to ask you single question, can F1 run 24 hours?
Ask anybody f1 is faster than lmp1
that acceleration is HUGE and the GRIP it has, holy cow! no wonder it broke the F1 record...
While still being heavier than F1 cars, which tells a lot.
THIS. IS. INSANE. !
Physics has left the building ....
That is brutally quick
That thing is so friggin fast and can corner so well! I can't wait to see that thing in races
F1 took the record back this weekend at SPA during practice 3 with a 1:41.6 . Too bad it was a wet qualifying otherwise we would have seen low 1:40s in the 2018 F1 car..
It's acceleration was incredible! It had its DRS open on Eau Rouge! That's incredible!
holy shit, how fast is he going through the gears at 1:51 :D
yes
1:19 look at that boy turn like crazy
The f1 cars have the record back 😍
This car is a monster ! A incredible fast and beautiful monster.
Thank you Porsche for more one awesome car, i'll miss you on LMP1
the record goes back to f1 and sebastian vettel 👊👊
Best ever version of the 919 hybrid!! I hope to see it in GTsport
1:42 dude in the back trying to race on his kick scooter
Might be the best sounding V4 I ever heard in a racing car.
Come to F1 in 2021 Porsche. Hopefully liberty and the manufactuers can come to agreement on capping things as.far.as.budget go.
Brandon Fripp F1 is shit, FE is future, Porsche already said will never join F1.
No way, that's just incredible, insane even.
Not anymore! 1:41.501 Sebastian Vettel 2018 \o/ :)
lmao more nerds here 3 minutes after it happened
3 sec after :DD ;)
If Q3 was dry ur talking about 1.40ies... unfortunately it rained..
0:58 It looks like there is a rocket ship coming towards you. That speed, wtf!!
