    Just started watching your channel. If the algorithm had suggested it earlier I'd have watched it more!
    That looks pretty typical of the problems I've had taking old stuff apart, including missing a set screw!
    Paint for me. I'd save the original patina for a museum piece. If this is going to be used, a good coat of paint will help it stay clean.

      Welcome aboard, Robert! I have no idea why the algorithm has picked up this video. By this time, a typical video of mine might have 200-300 views. This one is over 6K as of this morning. Personally, I think it is TH-cam's way of reminding me "they care" and to keep making content so they can keep showing ads. 😂 It's not like I'm doing cool stuff like making gears on a shaper. 😉 I know a lot of channels that would have given up by now and quit making content. The thought has crossed my mind a few times, but I still enjoy making videos. I don't do this for the money (Lord knows there isn't a lot of money in YT) but every little bit counts and means I can do a little bit more in the shop. Thanks for watching - Greg!

    Indeed, heavy things getting more and more heavy over time.
    Interesting rotaty table. The power feed opens possibilities.

      I think if I find a 10" table, I will almost definitely look into motorizing it some how.

      The focus on climate change is to mask the gravity crisis we are experiencing. Gravity is out of control and impacting everything, mostly human weight....I have a bad case that O.L.D. disease going my self. Lost all hope at this point. Love these slow and detailed videos. Thanks.

    Glad you got the switch working. If your going to sell, I would think painting it might be the way. Hope your able to make a few bucks to offset that tree.

    I have the same problem with my larger lathe chucks and my. rotary table for the mill, even the mill vice is beyond me now (I was 77 last birthday...). I adapted a home built engine crane to pivot on a column attached to the floor and a roof beam; it can reach the lathe and the mill table, it is also handy for lifting large, heavy items onto trestles or a bench. even at full reach it will lift 250Kg (a ¼ of a ton (500Lb's?)).

    • @MyLilMule

      That's a great idea! I will definitely be considering it. I still haven't managed to finish the shop ceiling, but when I do, there will be these fake beams down the length of the shop. I am thinking I can beef up a few areas of the beams and install something that will help me lift and move the heavier stuff.

    We have 156 views and 34 likes. Come on he doesn't charge us anything to like the video. It helps with the algorilla, could be with more views he gets to put some more in the kitty to make more videos. You could look at like it's getting your exercise in for the day...

    It's good to see you have all the storm damage taken care of. Mother nature can be a pain in the behind. On this rotary table, what would it look like if you shined up the unpainted parts and left the patina on the painted parts. It would like something my dad used to tell me putting a diamond in a 🐐 behind. 😂

  • @hilltopmachineworks2131

    I guess once you get it cleaned up and the patina looks good then I would leave it as is. If it looks like crap then definitely put some fresh paint on it.

    • @MyLilMule

      I find that the solvent I use can sometimes hurt cheap paint jobs. I don't think the paint that is on this is original.

    Greg, if you're not too proud of this thing when you're done, I'd be interested in it, especially with the power feed, though that's not a deal breaker.
    I've got a Volstro head for my Bridgeport (upside down rotary table), very handy gadget, but you're limited to cutter diameter.
    Regards,
    Duck

      Thanks. Those Volstro heads are really cool! I do have a local person that has expressed an interest in the rotab. If that falls through, I will let you know.

    Okay, now do a part two and post the clean up stage. Then part three the reassemble and so on. Looks like that rotary table could easily be turned into a "like new" condition table to me... Thumbs Up!

    Great video Mule. I noticed that the Tig torch has what must be a remote contactor switch. I have a remote foot control for mine but have been thinking about putting a switch on the torch itself. Any info on what switch you used would certainly help me get started. I can't imagine lifting that 12 -inch rotary table by myself at age 72. I don't even lift my 8" without using my overhead hoist. I added trolley/hoist to my shops 25 years ago because I knew old age would appreciate the help. Thanks for bringing us along. I have a new still in the box Vevor power feed that I am now thinking of using to power my 8" rotary table.

      This is a variable amp switch from @joeuriarte4037, a.k.a. Hotlights Welding. It's great for when I can't use the pedal.

    Don't you think that would go with the K&T mill if you try to get one of those rotary tables later it might cost big bucks I have a chines wen ding it works just fine for Z axis on full speed . JM

    • @MyLilMule

      I think it would be good for the K&T, but the size of it is still an issue. I hate giving up tools, believe me. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. 😂 But if I had a bigger shop with room for a gantry or even a job crane, I might be keeping it.

    • @junkmannoparts9696

      @@MyLilMule you should build a sky crane off the back of the K&T even a 10-in is pretty heavy my new phase 2 a couple years ago cost almost 700 bucks plus if you get a a universal dividing head that thing's going to be heavy OK Good luck

    It's bad enough in a job shop, but I would avoid water-based coolant in the home shop like the plague. If left for any length of time on a machine you end up with a sticky and rusty mess.

    • @MyLilMule

      It's why the only water based coolant/lubricant I use is Anchorlube. It's easy to clean up. Everything else is oil.

  • @GertKristiansen

    I also want to save my back and with full size machines I have heavy vices, rotary table and 10 inch dividing head. My solution is a medical patient hoist made by Hoyer - easy to move, legs can open around machine base and is good for 400 lbs. I would only consider the straight arm type. I look for a used one and check under the hydraulic cylinder for leakage. Bought one locally for $150. An engine hoist is too big, too heavy and no room in my shop. You can buy a seal kit if it begins to leak. And the rubber tires make it easy to move.

    • @MyLilMule

      I have an engine hoist. There really isn't room to use it efficiently. The ultimate plan is to build some small job cranes that can help me move stuff around.
