I am a licensed door and window installer. I toyed around my shop making end tables out door furniture etc. Just for my personal use and a few friends.
Recently I was in a serious car accident (not my fault) the person that hit me thought it would be a good idea to drive around a bus into oncoming traffic. Needless to say I was crossing the rd the bus was on. The bus driver was kind enough to waive me on. so I went and almost made it all the way across when the driver drove around the bus speeding doing 60mph in a 30mph zone and hit me. He destroyed my car and my body in a instant.
I am not able to work anymore. I just physically can not do it.
My question to you is.... I would like to start making things and selling them. I happen to love the design of a few of you boxes. If I was to make them and sell them would you have a problem with it?
I know a few youtubers do not care if you make money off their designs. They say that is why the post them showing how it is done. My hope is that the Great and powerful drunken one feels the same way.....
BEER OF OMENS GIVE ME SIGHT BEYOND SIGHT!
you will need... a bandsaw... a bandsaw... geez ya need a bandsaw, to make a bandsaw box..... you need a bandsaw
TRUE!
No shit Sherlock
I used a jigsaw *maniacal laugh*
AHeadC MADMAN
Chandler Walpole you have no idea. I once used a flathead to put in a phillips head screw. #rebel
Neat design! Couldn't you make the box twice as wide as the sanding height of your spindle sander? Just flip the piece over
Thanks! I suppose you easily do that!

Hey, I love this shape maily because there isn't cut in the midle like others band saw box. Gostei desse modelo principalmente porque nao tem o corte no meio como as demais boxs
Do I need a bandsaw to make this box?
this made me giggle
Yes, you do.
Well, technically if you had a coping saw and lots of time (like serving time in prison) you could do it without a band saw...
HANDSAW box!!!
"Shit, you need a bandsaw to do this" Had me rolling! Awesome video.

Olá tudo bom.

parabéns
E des de já muito obrigado.
OK.! I think you maked a nice work, and, too, youy are making a nice TH-cam channel. Now, let´s speak about the patterns you are using : where I can find them?
Thanks, and gretings from

Very cool bandsaw box, I would make it but I'm from Green Bay. I would get thrown out of town for making a Chicago box. I only ever made one bandsaw box. I really want to make more, maybe I'll do a video sometime. Bandsaw boxes are fun to make. My question to is, have you ever tried that Carter bandsaw attachment? I saw (pun) the guy at a wood show and it looked interesting.
I have not tried the Carter attachment. Everything on my bandsaw is stock except the blade. Also, you can make the Chicago box and just slap a Packer's sticker on the front. :)
Drunken Woodworker thanks for the response - a packer box, hmmm.
Just a thought on technique; you could wedge the drawer back into the body and extend it out an inch to cut the front and back off. This would provide flat support and be much easier to control initial contact with the blade. Beautiful design, good explanation, very encouraging for us novices.
Nice wood contrast, beautiful. If you don't mind me asking, what program do use to make your templates?
Thanks! I'm using Adobe Illustrator.

The word is height, not heigth.
I love bandsaw boxes. Once you make one, you want to make another one. And another one. And another one. And another one. And another one. Ok there..
"I'll be flocking mine later."
No one likes a braggart!
This looks like one awesome box, I want to make one but with purple heart wood would I have to watch out for anything???
Really liked this video, and really love the design. So much so, I been out a got a bandsaw , and brought some ash and walnut slabs. Using the template from your website made my wife
One for valentines
Watching this video has reminded me an undesired effect of the wood, it happening when you do a C shape cut on a wood panel then measure the opening of the C just after the cut, wait a day and measure again, now you will see a difference, the plywood panels don't suffer this effect so for me this project is not only nice to see, but it is also physically correct!
In naval construction it is normal to use C-shaped pipe of a single piece of wood(handrails). To obtain the desired measure, cut it leaving an offset of 1mm unfinished, wait 2 days then finish it, now should remain stable. The wood tends to take humidity from the outer side of the C shape when inside there are less end-grain surface exposed to the air, this happen also in 45° frame unions, the rule say to cut the profiles at 44° leaving air inside the frame because with time the corner tips lose contact between them.
nice box. I was surprised, the plywood looks pretty good like that.
Good surprise to me too. Cheers
Now, grab yourself a Carter Stabilizer. It will change your world. They are everything people say they are. It's a single guide and replaces both the upper and lower guide. I make cuts in six inch thick wood and get tight radius cuts and the cut will pull through either the top or the bottom. In other words, you get straighter cuts than you would with your stock guides.
By the way, you only have to replace the upper guide. You leave the bottom one alone (though you may have to back it off), since using the Carter requires you to push the blade out 1/8".
Hmmmm. I might have to this! THANKS!
what a great build video!
which video shows you doing flocking please. Thanks great videos by the way
Checkout my newest video Making a bandsaw box WITHOUT a bandsaw! Enjoy
That's some beautiful wood. It even looks good coming right off the bandsaw.
You said you sell the blanks but I don't find them on your website. Is it 3/4 in that you are using?
I don't have any for sale currently. I will in a couple of days. Yes 3/4. Thanks!
would like to buy pattern. can get them in cart but you give no means of completing the purchase. purchase link comes up as ERROR.
Just a quick tip. I notice all bandsaw makers spray glue directly on the wood and then apply the template. If you put painters tape on the wood and then spray glue you can get the template off with no problem.
David, what's the fence you're using on your saw? Have a source for it?
Доброго дня, полезное видео. У меня на канале видосы такой же тематики, возможно вам будет полезно.
I would suggest using a regular old wood filler for that size of a void. Before finishing, add some grain lines with colored pencils if needed.
I bought this box a park and swap for 3 dollars ! Then gave it to my wife !
Great project! I use my heat gun to remove the paper template from the wood, just takes a few seconds, and it does not leave any residue.
Nice looking design, but what kind whisky was in that bottle is the real question here? :)
Kinda ballzy to use plywood on a bandsaw box where grain is everything. Came out nice in the end anyway.
Yes. I thought it was a mistake to use plywood, it's just cheap and nasty stuff, but it came out alright.
Also using dowels as drawer pulls is a bit cheap and nasty. Fantastic design though, just would have been better with all solid timber and proper drawer pulls
I guess grain isn't always everything. Who comes up with these rules, anyway?
David, this is an excellent video. Absolutely marvelous!!! You make it look so easy. I have gotten a couple patterns from the site and managed to screw up my first few attempts. I think the 3/16th blade is key. My 1/4" blade twists like crazy!
What band saw do you have? I'm looking for a better quality one than I have now.. Thanks!
bro i dont even carpent but that was cool to watch
THANKS!!
Vaguely reminiscent of the Quiksilver logo.
I thought I hit gold by seeing this video because I'm developing my lesson plan for teaching bandsaw boxes..... until I realized you were the "Drunken Woodworker"!!
Bad ass. Did you create design yourself? I'm going to try same thing on a larger scale(log) with a chain saw.
Thanks! Yes, that's my design. I've love to see the chainsaw box when you're done!
I’d also like to see the chain saw box
Bro I have a couple of questions your PDF for your template isint working and what’s the width of it
He sells it in his book now.
I'm in the market for a bandsaw, I am looking at the laguna 14bx, my budget is no more than $1,500. Suggestions? Oh yeah I want the big re saw capacity
Can you tell me what size bandsaw blade you use to make these. The one I use comes out kind of rough and requires lots of hand sanding.
As mentioned at 0:40 a 3/16", 4 TPI blade from Highland Woodworking. Unfortunately all bandsaw boxes will require a lot of sanding.
I'm not a wood worker, more metal, but wow that's a very nice little cool box you've built. Very nice step by step man. Subscribed. Keep up the good work....Molson Canadian next time ;)
Hi David. I was wondering about the blade you use, i have the same exact bandsaw and it says on it blade range 1/8" to 3/4"
You use a small blade and I was just wondering does it work.
Also I think I made my saw not co planer because I accidentally twisted the complainer knob but it hade the nut in the right place so I twisted it back until the nut touched the saw
Thanks hope you can help great videos
por quanto se poderia vender aqui no brasil
мега правильный мужик! Вискарик с колой это супер!
Will the Chicago band saw box be back in the store soon?
It's taking me hours to make the band saw cuts. I'm using a 1/4 blade. Any tips??
Thanks
Possibly too many teeth per inch and it's not removing the waste quick enough. Or a dull blade.
Nicely made
Did you publish the book about making 8 different bandsaw boxes? If yes, where can I purchase. Thanks, great video instruction!
Excellent Job..My Friends..a lovely finish..Thanks for share with Us..!!!
Greetings from Argentine. Steve.
Nice design! o want to try some of these boxes but i jave a cuestion: how dry/wet doea the wood need to be? its because a wanna do it with logs, so I'm wondering with if it will split after. .
Could I do it with the "hand version" of the bandsaw? The one that is on my profile picture lol.
Coping saw btw haha
What type of rosewood is that, like Bolivian, Indian, etc
Honduran Rosewood
Great box! quick question, where do you get the flocking materials?
Just a reminder, when making other band saw boxes, if you want a back on yours, rather than have the drawer slide out the back, you would cut the back off right after cutting out your main shape and before cutting out the drawer.
Regarding your choice of using plywood, it looks just fine.
All in all, nice job. Especially for someone who finished off a half a fifth during production. ;)
Thanks! I have a book coming out in August on how to make 8 different bandsaw boxes. Spring House Press is putting it out. Should be in all major book stores.
Drunken Woodworker Awesome Box, look forward to making and purchasing your book when it comes out.
Always dig your videos! Do you use your offcuts for anything in particular? It seems like there is a fair amount of waste and was just curious if you had devised any interesting projects using the waste.
Enjoyed your video Sir...you are hilarious. Unsolicited criticism to follow: I would consider using maple or another light wood instead of plywood. The plywood is ....well..."plywood!" (not attractive) Knobs have room for improvement. Everything else was outstanding! Keep having fun and disregard the people that tell you not to drink while using power tools....any professional already understands this.
Thanks Brian!
:)
t'as raison
Those's that CAN'T criticize the ones that CAN.
***** I reccomend visiting Brian's page. He's also a talented woodworker. As a semi-professional singer, I welcome all criticism because its easy to tell who is trying to help you and who is trying to hurt you. DW's work is impressive, but all work leaves room for want. I for one agree with Brian, but if you notice he wasn't saying the piece was bad in any way, just presenting ways to better the work. It takes a very small person to be offended by constructive criticism.
Very cool project and looks awesome
I enjoyed watching your video and shall be making one of these for the missus. Your humour was rather enjoyable as well. I look forward to learning alot from you. Thanks
Thanks for a great video, question? why do you use the name "Drunken woodworker" ?
It dosent seem to fit in with the bandsaw, just wondering, Thanks
what size and tpi blade works best and any certain brand you prefer? Thank you
+Floyd Cox 3/16", 4 TPI is the only blade I use. I get my blades from HighlandWoodworking.com
Great job.
One suggestion, alcohol and work do not mix, can cause an unfortunate accident.
eso mismo comente yo.
I guess you have to have some experience drinking to know the difference here. The 'Drunken' Wood Worker is obviously not drunk when wood working. But possibly was called a drunken wood worker at one time and is now trying to make a point. No? too much thought into it?.... Maybe just a big Jackie Chan fan! Great video, Thank you!
Like his woodworking, I imagine his Drunken KungFu is quite excellent as well
What went through my mind after sandpaper:
"...and, apparently, a whole lot of attitude."
Great video ... thanks for sharing. Found my next project. Cheers !
do you use poplar plywood?
Looking good man!
You are suggesting me to follow you, that qould take me 20 minutes for all your accounts. Sometimes, less is more!
the idea of having all the accounts is so that people can follow through the service they prefer, not to get everyone to necessarily follow on every service. by having less accounts he would alienate himself from those who would have followed through the services that they prefer.
Ryan Taylor Thanks Ryan!
I enjoyed watching this video.the finished box looked very good
Theres no more planks in your website
You're not a moron, you're just drunk :D happens to the best of us ;)
You can use a scroll saw, and even a coping saw, too!
What brand is your band saw in this video? Model #?
+Matthew Treat Grizzly G0555X Bandsaw It's on his website drunkenwoodworker.com/how-make-bandsaw-box-chicago-design
Width and heidth? Lol nice box though.
this is first of your videos i watch and i really enjoy it! great work and nice bandsaw box! :D
Very nice,,,
Very nicely done video and you didn't even slur any words!! ;)
I miss the brunken wood worker lol
More on flocking later.....lol
Thanks. Very beautiful.
what tools do you need for this?
I would actually use a separate block for the drawer to make a tighter fit
Then you'd miss the point of a band saw box. the idea is that it is all from one piece of wood and the grain carries throughout, minus the kerf, of course.
the grains would carry through if you were to cut up one piece in to four and then use them as ends
حلو nice
Nice work.
Very nice.
save some money! ... use less glue!!
very nice
Cool, definitely different. The handles suck but the rest is really nice.
I agree, lot of work for handles that ado thing o the bautiful box.
gone fishin You should change your user name to 'drunken poster'.
snowdog90210 and change yours to TH-cam cop....ha ha
Hey, you aren't even drunk! ;)
please let me know when some come available. Thanks
Joe
Maravilhoso! Como posso fazer para comprar um? Eu quero.
We're can I bye just the glued up wood so I can make bandsaw box
Currently I don't have any for sale
