    I am a licensed door and window installer. I toyed around my shop making end tables out door furniture etc. Just for my personal use and a few friends.
    Recently I was in a serious car accident (not my fault) the person that hit me thought it would be a good idea to drive around a bus into oncoming traffic. Needless to say I was crossing the rd the bus was on. The bus driver was kind enough to waive me on. so I went and almost made it all the way across when the driver drove around the bus speeding doing 60mph in a 30mph zone and hit me. He destroyed my car and my body in a instant.
    I am not able to work anymore. I just physically can not do it.
    My question to you is.... I would like to start making things and selling them. I happen to love the design of a few of you boxes. If I was to make them and sell them would you have a problem with it?
    I know a few youtubers do not care if you make money off their designs. They say that is why the post them showing how it is done. My hope is that the Great and powerful drunken one feels the same way.....

    Very cool bandsaw box, I would make it but I'm from Green Bay. I would get thrown out of town for making a Chicago box. I only ever made one bandsaw box. I really want to make more, maybe I'll do a video sometime. Bandsaw boxes are fun to make. My question to is, have you ever tried that Carter bandsaw attachment? I saw (pun) the guy at a wood show and it looked interesting.

    • @MakeSomething
      @MakeSomething  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not tried the Carter attachment. Everything on my bandsaw is stock except the blade. Also, you can make the Chicago box and just slap a Packer's sticker on the front. :)

    Just a thought on technique; you could wedge the drawer back into the body and extend it out an inch to cut the front and back off. This would provide flat support and be much easier to control initial contact with the blade. Beautiful design, good explanation, very encouraging for us novices.

    Watching this video has reminded me an undesired effect of the wood, it happening when you do a C shape cut on a wood panel then measure the opening of the C just after the cut, wait a day and measure again, now you will see a difference, the plywood panels don't suffer this effect so for me this project is not only nice to see, but it is also physically correct!
    In naval construction it is normal to use C-shaped pipe of a single piece of wood(handrails). To obtain the desired measure, cut it leaving an offset of 1mm unfinished, wait 2 days then finish it, now should remain stable. The wood tends to take humidity from the outer side of the C shape when inside there are less end-grain surface exposed to the air, this happen also in 45° frame unions, the rule say to cut the profiles at 44° leaving air inside the frame because with time the corner tips lose contact between them.

  • @RoughCutsWoodworking

    nice box. I was surprised, the plywood looks pretty good like that.

  • @kellyvcraig

    Now, grab yourself a Carter Stabilizer. It will change your world. They are everything people say they are. It's a single guide and replaces both the upper and lower guide. I make cuts in six inch thick wood and get tight radius cuts and the cut will pull through either the top or the bottom. In other words, you get straighter cuts than you would with your stock guides.
    By the way, you only have to replace the upper guide. You leave the bottom one alone (though you may have to back it off), since using the Carter requires you to push the blade out 1/8".

    Just a quick tip. I notice all bandsaw makers spray glue directly on the wood and then apply the template. If you put painters tape on the wood and then spray glue you can get the template off with no problem.

    Kinda ballzy to use plywood on a bandsaw box where grain is everything. Came out nice in the end anyway.

    • @bkeniry1
      @bkeniry1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I thought it was a mistake to use plywood, it's just cheap and nasty stuff, but it came out alright.
      Also using dowels as drawer pulls is a bit cheap and nasty. Fantastic design though, just would have been better with all solid timber and proper drawer pulls

    Hi David. I was wondering about the blade you use, i have the same exact bandsaw and it says on it blade range 1/8" to 3/4"
    You use a small blade and I was just wondering does it work.
    Also I think I made my saw not co planer because I accidentally twisted the complainer knob but it hade the nut in the right place so I twisted it back until the nut touched the saw
    Thanks hope you can help great videos

    Just a reminder, when making other band saw boxes, if you want a back on yours, rather than have the drawer slide out the back, you would cut the back off right after cutting out your main shape and before cutting out the drawer.
    Regarding your choice of using plywood, it looks just fine.
    All in all, nice job. Especially for someone who finished off a half a fifth during production. ;)

As a semi-professional singer, I welcome all criticism because its easy to tell who is trying to help you and who is trying to hurt you. DW's work is impressive, but all work leaves room for want. I for one agree with Brian, but if you notice he wasn't saying the piece was bad in any way, just presenting ways to better the work. It takes a very small person to be offended by constructive criticism.

    what tools do you need for this?

  • @sirspikey

    I would actually use a separate block for the drawer to make a tighter fit

      Then you'd miss the point of a band saw box. the idea is that it is all from one piece of wood and the grain carries throughout, minus the kerf, of course.

      @sirspikey 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      the grains would carry through if you were to cut up one piece in to four and then use them as ends
