I have just been to Sofia in Bulgaria, home of the Odrysian Kingdom. I went to the history museum there and they had an entire section to this Kingdom. We must remember that the falx changed roman amour and tactics forever as it was so powerful especially against cavalry. I think this weapon and unit is represented properly. Good work CA
Only the Dacians used the falx, the Thracians use the rhomphabia which is only very slightly curved. Basically the Dacians and their falxmen got shafted (kinda) whilst the Odrysians' melee infantry got really boosted. Although, CA says "Odrysia produces some of the finest bowmen in the world" but we know that's bullshit so this faction wasn't treated as well as it could have been.
Like headhunt says, it does not make them tired unless you use frenzy as well which does cause fatigue. Headhunt only hurts melee defense and since Thracian nobles don't have any anyway it's really no downside.
I was actually able to beat a Odrysian player with a Nervii rush army. Noble horse to dispose of his cav, levy freeman to take the charge and ambushers to flank them while my main line had them engaged. Still ended up with a pyrrhic victory but a win is a win.
wowspartan11 I had to write a letter to each of there famalies about how there sons and or fathers died defeating the Odrysian horde to protect there Galic homeland.
With how low the melee defense on the nobles are, I feel like this might make elite spears decently viable against them. As most of them come with huge armor and melee defense values, they should be able to handle the charge a little bit better as well as the melee. And a huge attack wouldn't be necessary when their opponents only have melee defense in the single digits.
It seems that those Mercenary Falxmen did quite well by getting 44 kills against Oathsworn and Spear Nobles. I think that if you put them into a spread out formation they will do better (pay off).
Thracian Nobles are probably the best melee infantry unit in the game. They destroy: Oathsworn, Noble Fighters, Lusitani Nobles, praetorian guard, royal peltasts etc.
Get the updated unit roster mods in the Workshop. Getae get Falx Masters, which obliterate even Thracian Nobles and Oathsworn. I charged them into Massagetae cataphract head on and they only lost 7 men from the initial charge on huge unit size. The cataphracts just routed after 50 losses or so. It all lasted maybe 30 seconds of battle.
Half of Thracia is within Turkey's borders. Don't know if the people there in anyway related to ancient Thracians but they provide half of Turkey's booze supply and they love to drink.
+ForeverAlone hellenic guard pike has a good melee attack while they try flank u, u can't put your pikes off and charge them getting a lot of kills.after the charge, put pikes on again .easy
You know, the Odrysians probably have the best garrisons, since they don't have a 'pleb' style unit, so their worst garrison infantry are the Thracian warriors, and the worst garrison skirmishers are those Thracian skirmishers I think.
um heir, i just did a test with the Thracian nobles and i think i have come across a unit that can hold off and even beat them. The Lusitani nobles managed to beat my unit, even when popping cool-downs on the Thracian unit.
Could you please do an online battle and demonstrate how to use artillery in a battle as well as which faction and which pieces of artillery are best to use in an online battle.
Is this game fixed yet? I am really wanting to buy it. Also i have a redeon R9 270X 2GB graphics card wiht a I5 processor, will it run this game okay? Any input is welcome thanx.
DeSkirmisher I am extremely confused as to why people thinking that leaving (not the concede) would actually affect anything. The enemy knows they won, anyone who watches the replay knows they won. What does it prove? There are no win/loss ratios.
To be honest, you are right. But, I, like many other people, feel that it is more satisfying to see the word "Victory" on the results screen instead of "Draw."
Geistmeister6 I'm fairly certain the intended use of shield wall, and similar abilities, is to absorb the enemy's charge and hold the enemy units while you flank around with more men. The units in the shield wall formation aren't going to go on the offensive, they're going to let the enemy hammer into them. So really the ability is best used if you can see/predict that you'll have the flanking advantage and want your main-line units to last a little longer.
leftknee17 Are there a lot of hidden stats in Rome 2? I understand it makes sense from a realism standpoint that shield wall would perform less effectively at taking out others, but from a statistical standpoint, those kind of stances boost stats and decrease none, so would it be wrong to say that they would perform more cost effective, albeit slower?
Geistmeister6 Pretty much. Depends on the unit though. Those nobles have so much attack that it doesn't really make a difference. If he had had proper support for he's oathswrn it could have worked.

Greetings from Bulgaria buddy 😁

Tell that to the poor families and loved ones of the men that died.

Heir, headhunt doesn't tire the unit. Headhunt only lowers your defense. Frenzy is what makes your unit tired.

that charge though

+David Tarara ok, one day I went noble vs oathsworn and obliterated them lol. Maybe people get different test results

+Ruser my computer broke so I can't play :(
Joey Rutherford
rip computer
+Ruser haha it's been bad
Here use the third general perk thing, It gives you second wind which is awsome for these types of units and elephants.
Bulgarians are pretty tough people, no wonder Thracian nobles kill shit
Too bad that bulgarians and thracians are not the same people
Half of Thracia is within Turkey's borders. Don't know if the people there in anyway related to ancient Thracians but they provide half of Turkey's booze supply and they love to drink.
kingofmaiars I believe they are related ps Bulgarians arent the badass warriors the Thracians were. They are okay not badass
Pikes absolutely disintegrate the Thracians. They nullify alllll that melee and WD.
unless the pikes get outflanked
+ForeverAlone hellenic guard pike has a good melee attack while they try flank u, u can't put your pikes off and charge them getting a lot of kills.after the charge, put pikes on again .easy
He forgot to give Odrysian Kingdom a general in his testing. **Shake my fucking head.**
the praetorians didn't pop the draco out but eh... it works.
Draco only helps against other CAVALRY
u sure? I can swear that it works even against infantry.
Indeed it does work against infantry! , i misinterpret the meaning to be "Weakens Cavalry affected by the skill" haha, my mistake, sorry.
Love this faction, needs more infantry, you can use a mod tho
You know, the Odrysians probably have the best garrisons, since they don't have a 'pleb' style unit, so their worst garrison infantry are the Thracian warriors, and the worst garrison skirmishers are those Thracian skirmishers I think.

I don't think artillery is worth it at all unless its a siege battle.
I've seen it used fairly well in battles especially the larger scale battles.
+Tanner Frederick against the ai maybe. they are not cost effective
you can charge them (thracian nobles) head on i do but dont stay in the fight even with melee cav.
I think only 11 different units (not counting artillery) are too few..

Whats with the tgn intro all the time? Is he part of the network?
I leave early when I know I have lost the battle, and it never says that it was a draw. I want it to be a loss if I leave, as it is.
That's because you have conceded defeat. Conceding defeat and leaving the battle are two different things.
DeSkirmisher I am extremely confused as to why people thinking that leaving (not the concede) would actually affect anything. The enemy knows they won, anyone who watches the replay knows they won. What does it prove? There are no win/loss ratios.

A draw? If players leave mid battle it should count as a loss for them.
never showed how the thracian skirmisher/peltasts could be used in online battles
Heir, maybe it's just me, but do your men get a LOT less kills when in shield wall?
That's the idea. A phalanx is designed to hold back the enemy. Not attack them.
So his opponent keeping his men in shield wall after they absorbed the charge was stupid?
Geistmeister6 I'm fairly certain the intended use of shield wall, and similar abilities, is to absorb the enemy's charge and hold the enemy units while you flank around with more men. Hier headhunt no longer causes fatigue look at it!!!!!! Come on it's been like that for 2 patches now!!!
Can someone help me my online does not work coz I have a different version
Tested their cav vs roman cav and they win each engagement even if I'm using Draco.
2:07 blaze it heir
Badass Thx for info.
