    i know more than a dozen people who has undergone the surgery (i was invited into a social group of people who are thinking about a fusion or has undergone one), one of whom is a ballerina, still dancing 3 years after the fusion. i would say most of them had positive feedback and is going about their lives actively, i think it's all about your mindset, and whether you are willing to put in the work. in the end, the only difference the fused vertebrae should bring is a limited mobility, in theory everything else should work just fine, provided the vertebrae fused successfully. i remain optimistic that you will return to normal in no time.

    I really appreciate what you’ve put out, so THANK YOU!!! I think something that my doc said 6 weeks post op really makes sense with different outcomes with different people. She said the major difference has been people who are physically fit pre surgery recover faster and better than those who didn’t put physical fitness as a priority. My surgery was L5/S1, opened up in the front and inserted a cage and screws, flipped over and then opened the back and inserted two rods. This was done in the first week of February 2024. I’m walking as far a I want for as long as I want. I’m cleared to return to the gym and allowed to curl 40 lb dumbbells. I’m allowed to bench up to 150 lbs for ten reps and three sets. Shoulder presses, 40 lb dumbbells. I too am back at work, as a firefighter (I do have restrictions so you won’t see me throwing ladders or forcing doors until maybe July lol)and firearms instructor. I lived with pain in my back for six years…thanks VA…and I can say my life is finally getting back to a real normal. I asked if I’d be able to sky dive again this time next year, the response from the neurosurgeon…no reason I shouldn’t be able to do that again as longer as I recover smart and don’t over do anything.

      Brother that is a great recovery! You’re moving fast and I love to see that. Just always listen to your body. If you need to slow down due to some nagging pain or muscles tightening up, just do it brother! I stretch a lot also. If you don’t it catches up all of the sudden!

    Hi am hanan from kuwait ,Thank you so much for the detailed videos you've posted for the your entire recovery ,,, I saw every single video you've posted to prepare my self for the surgery , I did the surgery on 28/7/2022 in Kuwait , the surgery was the best thing that happened to me this year honestly , I had severe and excruciating pain that radiates to my left leg for 4 months and I was bed ridden for an entire month , and am already a back patient since 2015 , after the surgery th pain was gone , the numbness still exists and the weakness is here , but that needs time I know , BUT the pain is gone , it's such a blessing to sleep peacefully without having the need to take a strong pain killers and crying from pain , 2 surgeons worked on my back , a Kuwaiti doctor and an Italian doctor, I pray for them every day , and again thank you for your videos and yes you can be normal after surgery and live your life fully .

Not all of us are the same as you indicated in your video, however; you're doing well in both cases (surgery and narrative) please keep it up. You have given me hope that I will do as well. @@TheFuzedLife I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in 2020. I have been medically managing the pain with an average of 4/10 pain scale daily. On March 12 something happened. I sat down in the couch and couldn’t get up. I ended up calling an ambulance because I felt like I was going to pass out from the pain. My initial thought was I would go in and they would give me some IV pain medication, muscle relaxer, and I’d be on my way home. That turned out to be a eight day hospital stay. They performed one CT, two MRIs. They wanted to fuse me right then and there. The hospital where I was at WAS NOT where I wanted to have surgery. It is a extremely small facility with limited resources. They don’t even have a pain management specialist on staff; they were afraid to treat my pain, so I suffered for eight days. I had taken my son to this hospital a couple years ago when he broke his arm and they didn’t reset his arm right, which meant it had to be manipulated three days later back into place. While I was there these last eight days, they made at least seven mistakes that I caught. In the middle of the night I had blood in my urine and there was no doctor that could come to my bedside. Fortunately, I was able to talk to a doctor on the phone and told him I wanted a renal ultrasound, medication review for drugs that cause hematuria and a urine study sent down to the lab. They gave me a UTI while I was there. As a nurse of 17 years, you know which facilities you want to be at for a major surgery, and this was not one of them. I knew I needed back surgery and was planning on doing it this summer after I changed insurance carriers. I was in the middle of researching different physicians and planning consults. When you have a unstable back, you are a literal ticking time bomb. Whatever happened that day, changed everything. My game plan for at least three physician consultations has been thwarted. After I was stable enough to use a walker, I discharged out of the hospital and have been at home flat on my back with a limited supply of pain medication and muscle relaxers. My nurse friend recommended one of the top neurosurgeons at the facility I used to work at. By the grace of God, I was able to have my husband drive me to see him on Friday. Getting in and out of the car was a major task. I had to use a walker and wheelchair to get to his office. I could barely stand for the x-rays. Told him I all along wanted an artificial disc, but he said I’m not a candidate. The plan is to get me on the surgery schedule within the next 10 days for a L5-S1 fusion. I have to pay out-of-pocket because I am not in their network anymore. In the meantime, I’m at home, flat on my back, and only getting out of bed with a walker to use the toilet.
      Do you have any recommendations for nutrition supplements pre-post back surgery? Right now I’m taking the standard multivitamin and glucosamine supplement. But I feel like my nutritional status is severely lacking. I want to optimize myself to promote bone growth after the fusion. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Again, thank you for your videos and I’m glad you’re doing so well. I watched a few last night and was literally crying. ❤️🙏🏻

    Yes, your discs were completely removed. All of the spine movement is now concentrated on the lowest disc that remains. I would do everything possible to protect that disc for the long haul as it's pretty well documented that fusions can create a cascade of adjacent disc failures. A good PT can really help you in this respect. Basically, you need to create an "exoskeleton" of strong core muscle around your spine, learn proper movement mechanics, and proper sitting/driving/sleeping mechanics.

    Great to hear you’re doing well, mine is a bit slower, it seems a very fine line for me and over doing my physio and having a flare up, even walking is still limited, then having to wait for the flare up to subside and then start the physio slowly again, I will get there though, haven’t had a ct scan yet so unsure how the fusion is actually going, might mention it to the dr, anyway glad things are going well for you. Take care Rich

    I can’t even walk to the bathroom and back now, so just walking would be a blessing. You were in great shape so your outcome should be awesome. Surgeons can’t help everyone or people that are extremely overweight with poor bones, or people that smoke and drink constantly. My buddy had double fusion and he was fine and back working!. But I don’t think you should ever deadlift 500lbs ever again, not saying you could not do it, just not worth all the suffering if something goes wrong. Thanks for these update videos! How did you damage your back?

    This last video that I watched of yours you said you have an infusion if I heard it right you don't have a desk Ciara had the same operation 3 almost 3 months ago May 17th I had l4 l5 herniated disc with s1. I had a collapse that made me go in to see my surgeon cuz we talked I've had X-rays we never mentioned anything about surgeries we were going to try injections and everything else cuz I've also got service in my neck as well I've got neck issues that's causing arm and hand problems and I'm so I think it's causing balance problems as my legs. But I've came down with pneumonia in 2019 c I installed floors carpet for 11 for over 20 years so that pretty much damage by lower back it started in my shin then I came down pneumonia and then while I was in the hospital with that it was really severe I have been the same since I haven't been to work on SSI I went to sciatica issues with the pain for about 4 and a half years living with the pain I didn't want nobody cutting on me cuz I had horror stories and then I heard good stories well this last 3 months ago I couldn't help it I collapsed I guess the it kind ofblew out a little further and then it hit my spinal cord so and then I was getting arthritis in there I was getting no fluid so he says we're going to have to have some surgery my insurance didn't want to pay for a third MRI so my doctor and I talked to and he had good reviews so when I was in the emergency room they end up doing a third MRI and basically he says we got to have some time we got to have surgery that's all let's get it going now so he's scheduled it and I had it in 2 days and I stayed in the the hospital observation room they brought me and I went in I had two cages put in s1 and l4 and infusion of 5 and 4 I was in the hospital for 10 days and then I went to rehab right after that for another 10 days with the rehab was bulshit. I'm an outpatient therapy twice to three times a week it's so processed my biggest problem is the weakness of my legs and the balance of my legs I don't get good balance right now but the incision nothing hurts in the back backs fire and I can bend down I don't really twist that much I can still twist but not but I do get creaking sounds and weird sounds in my back when I move and I got titanium bolts holding my infusion together but I do have cages replacing my bad discs so that's why I followed your story a little bit but you mentioned something that you didn't have a replacement desk where you had your infusion unless I misread you but it seemed like you were a lot more pain throughout the few days and I was cuz I really wasn't in pain pain and they had that drain plug with the blood thing they removed that after about 3 days but I didn't stay in the hospital I was on Percocet which I've been on for 5 years the 10/32. I also they put me on a morphine it was more like a 12-hour time release pill and I took that along with my Percocet every 4 hours and then I was on Robaxin for spasms muscle relax and other than that I didn't have too much problems just trying to get comfortable I have more problems because I didn't number two for the whole 10 Days inn on the hospital and even when I was in the rehab I still couldn't poop they gave me some relaxing this which that was a mistake that made me go real bad at one time I couldn't make it to the bathroom because the nurses didn't come in in time. But I came home early and I just pretty much relax at home for a while so I start doing my own little exercises I go to follow up with my doctor and he said everything pretty good he said that the creaking sound and all that stuff that's just from the hardware just getting settled in it might take some time the only problem that I do have is that my feet feel Sandy my right foot feels both feet feel Sandy but anyways I have another issue with my neck I've got problems with my neck and I've had for quite some time but now it's got so bad. Arthritis bone spurs cervical stenosis that's where the pensioners and my arms are weak lost a lot of muscle tissue in my hands and arms and my hands feel like grit like sandpaper same thing as my feet and my balance is still off and that's the problem weak legs after all this time so I am scheduled to get next surgery16th of August 2024 to give me a little over 3 months actually 3 months that I had my back surgery I have no choice cuz my everything is getting worse I got to get it done because my neck is really causing some problems but he said the neck will be a lot easier than my back my back was a 5-hour surgery to 6:00 only thing I had problems there is coming out of the anesthesia but for the most part it's been a pretty good experience and I have had no really no complications other than weak legs still weak my legs are still weak but my surgeon basically told me that could be corrected when I do my neck cuz the neck would be surprised at controls in controls your legs your arms your hands and hopefully you know they can't guarantee everything but hopefully that will take care of everything else once I have the neck done and if that doesn't work give it a little while and then it's the carpal tunnel and cupola because I had the EMG done and it didn't say I had carpal tunnel but maybe I can live with that once I get the neck done and I can do the other exercises to do that without having surgery I'm done with these surgeries I'm telling youbut I don't do all the walking that you're doing not yet because I'm not got the balance cuz of my neck I think I have the problem of that point you're doing a lot of exercising I'm only doing what I do on outpatient program which is you know me and watched and stuff like that but I'm still weak with the legs

    Hiya, I'm scheduled to have the same type of surgery soon and I was wondering whether the bone graft you had was from your iliac crest or a cadaver harvested? Also, a slightly intimate Q: were you fitted with catheter for the op? If so, how soon were you able to sit on a toilet? Sorry for tmi :D

    • @TheFuzedLife
      @TheFuzedLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quite honestly, I'm not exactly sure where the bone came from. I didn't have any other wounds so I'd guess cadaver. As for the catheter, I did not have a catheter. I peed in a handheld bottle and I didn't have to worry about pooping for about 5 days and by that time I was home. I had one of those tall toilet frames that you put over your toilet in order to not have to bend down as far.

    • @Sani-hq5pl
      @Sani-hq5pl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheFuzedLife ah, if you had a bone graft then you'd have a significant topical pain in one of your hips. If you didn't then they didn't take graft. Thanks for taking the time to reply even to that intimate Q 😅

      Took gabapentin for a month with another anti seizure med and they didn't give much if any relief...did give me an unbelievable brain cloud and caused memory issues... got some relief from spinal injection, surgical consult set in a few days. Already have l5-s1 fused 19 years ago. Knew disc's above were injured then, have been able to live with it up to now...1st fusion was successful...hoping this one is as well.

    Whoever is negative on your recovery add spiritual crap I hear that too all over the place not comments on me cuz I don't video on my stuff but it says that the doctor says that you can't blow some don't say it but it says you can't do the things you used to do you can't bend over and touch your shoes after the surgery and I was never told that by my doctor at all it's all about you as an individual you know you're an athlete you're doing fine so who cares what they say it's what I look at I like to move around I was a carpet layer I like to martial arts I like to kick I like to do things like that once I get my neck done that will tell me if it's got anything to do with my stability of balance but I got to fight two things I have no choice not just one I got to fight two things and negatively I just block them I don't want to hear it support group is what you need you know people that that you can do this man you got it you got this you know I mean there's times I was in so much pain I'd rather die you know but I'm in nowhere near the pain in my lower back that I used to be fire as nerve pain if I can get my hands and arms back to normal build some muscle back up I'll be happy I'll be 59 this month and I've heard good things about the neck surgery I have to get three cages in my neck and four levels of fusion but my surgeon told me it's going to be a lot easier than my back surgery my back surgery it took 5 hours surgery which it took me seem like an hour or so to come out of anesthesia that was the worst and trying to use the bathroom at first. What you're doing you're doing what you believe screw those other people they want to be negative then so be it because if it ever hit them then God works in mysterious ways you're having a good experience and that's what you should have by listening to you is making me feel better about what you just said about things you can do after your surgery because I heard all that negativity shit too that you can't do this can't do that after you have your surgery no one's ever told me I could do anything like that thank you brother and good luck
