I have always hand-washed my silks. I do it exactly like you, except I gently squeeze the water through, instead or dipping up and down, and do three rinses in the basin, changing the water each time. A specially-designed washing (low pH, no enzymes) product for silk is really important. Never use Woolite -it damaged or destroyed many of the first silk items I bought.
I have had bad experiences with dry cleaning silk so I only hand wash now. Hope you encourage others. Hand washing is quick and easy. If you suspend them on a drying rack they dry so quickly! My flat mesh rack folds up for storage and stacks with others of their own kind. It is made by XOX. A little steam or a careful iron while still a little damp and they are ready to go.
I just turned 19 and went on therealreal to buy myself a silk top and dresses! Was feeling worried because I don’t know to wash but this tutorial was so helpful! Many blessings have a great day!🥰🥰🥰
Bonjour Marie - Anne! What a pleasure to meet You today. Because of an allergic and very sensitive skin, I never dryclean anything that can touch my skin. I also wash my silk garments with a soap flakes for newborns or a delicate shampoo without sls, sles and similar. It may help other allergics, i thought. xoxo.
My decluttering efforts have been massive the past three weeks. Today I practiced envisioning the woman of style I want to be. A short time later I purchased two beautiful blouses from Lily Silk with the chicandelegant coupon code! I chose the basic with concealed placket as well as the stand-up collared with the pearl clip, both in pale pink.
I agree with Silk being te Ultimate high end materials for people. Its beautifully made, looks amazing, and best of all, feels second TO NONE when against your skin. Super breathable, light weight, and shines like magic in the sunshine. I feel the best when wearing my silk shorts and silk button up short sleeve top. You simply will love silk clothing if you havent owned any before. Your loved one will enjoy it aswell, when holding them close. ❤
I have washed silk scarves twice. Both times colors fade. I only have a couple of silk tops because of the dry cleaning. If the instructions say washable and It’s pastel I would try. Your Lilysilk blouses are beautiful!
Silk lasts a long time. Every silk piece I bought has stayed in great condition even years later compared to many other fabric types. I wasn’t always gentle either and put them through the wringer. Now I take much better care so they will also look as good and last even longer. Silk is a great investment.
I have a vintage silk scarf and haven't dared try washing it, but I'll try it now (well, once I've got the right detergent, anyway). Thank you for showing the best way to do it!
Very interesting video Madame, thankyou. A piece of trivia I found out why you can't bleach silk. A friend of mine did a textile course and apparently if you put silk in bleach it disintegrates the silk. I won't put my silk directly in the sun anymore, although I do usually dry it inside. It's probably very lucky I haven't ruined anything, lol.
I wash my Zimmermann and Alémais Silk by hand and i add some drops of white vinegar to the water because silk has tendency to produce calc between the silk fibres (which makes the silk feeling hard). Also to hang the items i use Inflatable clothes hangers because the hard wood hangers can leave bulges to silk / cashmere items 😊
I recently found a beautiful red silk blouse at the thrift store. It said dry clean only but I hand washed it at home. A lot of red dye came out in the water. I see now that this shirt is not colorfast and needs dry cleaning in the future. I wanted to try a second-hand silk blouse first to see if I liked it before investing in an expensive one from Lily Silk. It took me over a year of thrifting to find one in great condition in my size and a color that looks good on me. I hope I love it and can order some new ones from Lily Silk that are hand washable. Thank you for the video Marie-Anne.

Silk is not a fabric men can wear enough and that’s a real shame. I had a beautiful navy blue silk shirt back in the 90’s and I adored the way it felt on my skin, not to mention it looked magnifique! It lasted for years until one unfortunate day when our maid accidentally sprinkled it with chlorine but I enjoyed and cared for it for 6 years. Of course my grandma showed me how to wash it and the soap made it smell like roses. So many good memories!
I spin raw silk fibre into yarn, hand paint or dye it and use it to knit myself shawls, t shirts and sweaters. I always hand wash my silk items in warm water with a couple of drops of baby shampoo in it which seems to work well and not damage the silk yarn. I dry the items flat (blocked with pins for the shawls) and store them in paper bags in the wardrobe. Silk is such a fun fibre to work with and, if you're prepared to put the time into processing it yourself, quite inexpensive. It costs around £15 for enough silk fibre to make a lace weight sweater and you get to dye it the exact colours you like. Perfect for someone who loves the luxury of wearing silk but can't afford to spend too much!

I would like to try to include a silk blouse in my wardrobe. I remember how flattering the drape is. Much more flattering than rayon if I remember correctly.
I may have been a bit rough with my silk uniform. I washed it in hot water by hand, wrung the life out of it, then hung it to dry. I don't have a towel to soak up the water. I hope it won't diminish my uniform...
I sew my own silk tops and shirts. I never have them dry-cleaned. Keep the laundering of silk blouses to a minimum by sewing a small envelope or pocket under the arms, attached to the seam allowances of the armholes. Cut a panty liner in half and tuck each half into a pocket with the plastic side facing outwards.
My mom taught me to hand wash delicates such as silk! Marie-Anne, if it is super hot (like over 30 degrees celcius) does silk help to keep you cool??? I can't find that answer anywhere on YT! Merci!!!
I only dry clean. I have a wonderful dry cleaner. Never a chemical smell. Printed silk scarves will be ruined if washed. I have Hermes scarves that are close to 20 years old. Have used the same dry cleaner for 35 years.

Marie-Ann!! Thank you for the amazing video!!
🤗
You are so elegant, I love this video and am a new subscriber.
I did the color test and nothing bled but when I went to soak it in the water it turned bright pink! I quickly took it out but do you think the dress can be salvaged?
Great tips but how about, for hand washing, using either woolite or baby shampoo?
Funny, this video reminded me of a scene from a Chris Rock movie where his character walks into a tailors shop and says, "Nothing touches this body but silk." I enjoy your vids, cheers...
if my silk outfit is tightly wrinkled from mistakenly drying in a dryer, can it be fixed?
Wow !!!
So much needed💕💕
I would like to try to include a silk blouse in my wardrobe. I remember how flattering the drape is. Much more flattering than rayon if I remember correctly.
Not yet. That’s why I am in this channel
You're the best. Great advice!
I may have been a bit rough with my silk uniform. I washed it in hot water by hand, wrung the life out of it, then hung it to dry. I don't have a towel to soak up the water. I hope it won't diminish my uniform...
Do be gentle with your silk Miss K wringing it could very well damage it 🙁
Mine yndlingskjoler...er i skøn,glat helsilke.når jeg først har dem på...🤗skøn fornemmelse!!!...forsigtig efterbehandling,er prisen🌞
Thank you! I love your style...
i put mine in the washer on delicate on cold water in a mesh and i hang dry
its a silk fitted sheet i have
Well, this video was a treat! :)
This is wonderful! Thank you. ❤️
Do you recommend a steamer for ironing it?
My mom taught me to hand wash delicates such as silk!
Marie-Anne, if it is super hot (like over 30 degrees celcius) does silk help to keep you cool???
I can't find that answer anywhere on YT!
Merci!!!
it does
@@happymomentsdesignstudio wow, thank you!!!
very helpful ^^i just got a silk pillowcase
Thanks, not sure if it has a label, will check
I only dry clean. I have a wonderful dry cleaner. Never a chemical smell. Printed silk scarves will be ruined if washed. I have Hermes scarves that are close to 20 years old. Have used the same dry cleaner for 35 years.
Bonjour my dear Marie Anne, have to admit I've never ever owned anything in silk in my sixty five years, shame isnt it???? Hope you're still well and enjoy the weekend Paula xx
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Well that would be lovely but haven't worked for five years due to a mental breakdown, so living off my very meagre savings left to me by my dear mother on her passing, that's getting dangerously low, only receive sixty pounds per month from the government to live on, so probably not, but im sooo much better off than so many who don't even have a roof over their heads, pray for us all during these crazy times, all my love Paula x
I bought the beautiful Lilysilk navy blouse with the gold and pearl decoration at the neck. It has NO care label, and I am worried about hand washing it with that (it’s non-removable). I took it to the dry cleaners once and it came back blotchy!! Mon Dieu! What do I do??
Hello! Do you know how to remove yellow spots from white silk which is hand-painted in areas of the garment?
