    In an age when a lot of sub-standard car reviewers on youtube have more than a million subscribers, I wonder how and why such a polished and informative car enthusiast like Steve cant get his share of subscribers/followers. May be the fact that he doesn't do drag races or shoot in exotic locales or doesn't do practicality test, not sure. But, his videos are super cool and to the point. One again, great review Steve !!

    Here's why Ford designed the new Escape to be so curvy : they want a sharp contrast to the upcoming BRONCO SPORT, which will display a very boxy and retro look. Like the Escape, the 2021 BRONCO SPORT will be on the frame of a car and it's FWD. Hats off to Ford for not making their vehicles all look the same.....

    Fantastic review! My 2013 Ford C-Max hybrid is still running great after all these years and 170k. It’s done over 63k on the battery alone, mind you this isn’t the plug in. These ford hybrids really do run in pure electric mode often. Also love the electric power off the line!

    the looks are growing on me. I sure love the Bronco Sport, yet I see why Ford made the styling of the Escape so car like. The hybrid MPG is more important than the styling for me. Good review, and thanks.

    Problem is Ford over-estimated the market's demand for something more car-like
    The market really wants something like the Rav4.
    Something that is car-like, but looks like a truck
    The new Rav4 is thrashing the new Escape in sales.

    • @76carmel

    Seems like some excellent updates to the model here, although I must say styling is a big departure from the last. I live in the UK were there are millions of St-line Kugas, as they are called here. Bought purely on appearance as they do have a proper small suv aggressive style to them whereas the new shape just seems too muc a departure. I can see Ford potentially losing sales here in the UK on an albeit better car but with odd styling.

    the last generation escape had an annoying lower inward curve to the windshield, making it feel squeezed inward with less viewing.
    is this newer design the same, or have they allowed an expanded lower windshield?

    What a dog this Escape is. It looks like if you put 2 Pringles chips in your mouth. It's a dumb look and Model 3 does it, too. I used to really like the Escape, but when they ditched the squared off look, it's gotten more and more homely. The price is right, but glad you pointed out where the interior really cheaps out. This is Ford's bugaboo. You'd have to REALLY want a hybrid to pick this over the CRV or RAV4, because those have much better interiors.

    • @76carmel
      @76carmel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ford catered to women on the redesign on its press launch. You’re right on one big thing... the lower trim levels of the Escape do seem rental car-esque. Thus, the cheapish feeling. I guess for a better interior, Ford wants you invest in the Titanium model of the Escape if you prefer a better interior. By the way, the Titanium model of the Hybrid Escape is around $38k (give or take).

    I would take great caution buying an AWD Ford with their PTU failures. I’d make the dealer put it on a lift and show the PTU was serviceable and that it held more than less than a quart of oil. Actually I still wouldn’t buy one. Great review Steve.

    • @jetninjamonkey
      @jetninjamonkey 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Hammes New Car Reviews yes Steve, ford’s power transfer units are notorious for failures. They are lubricated like I said by less than a quart of oil, not cooled and pinched between the engine and firewall. A great TH-cam source is fordtechmakuloco.

    It's typical Ford (and GM) when making sub $35K vehicles. They purposely never complete the job: One touch down but not up...poor craftsmanship...glove box door is tacky...plastic where soft touch should be. There was a time entry vehicles were near loss leaders to bring the customer into the Ford (or GM) family. Now these cars focus are for short term gain, not caring if you'll return after the lease and get the next level up.
