I was almost on the fence to buy the cover plate I had to take a phone call and for some reason Your video was playing on my screen when I walked back in my office it most of just been playing videos until it got to yours and then I walked in. I just did my test drive in my Toyota truck its shifts perfect .
Found this vid after looking at the bypass plate iPd sells, deciding to go this route since I'm tired of driving a 240 with no exhaust or fourth gear on the interstate to work in the mornings

Great info and pictures! If I ever lose my OD switching capabilities, I will be up a creek because I live in the mountains and drive primarily on secondary roads under 55 mph which makes my OD operation indispensable on my 1986 Volvo 240 DL. I love my car in these conditions without a 4th gear (OD). My 4th gear is wonderful on the interstate but at speeds lower than that, I feel like I've "stepped into a hole" with the low rpm's making the engine feel anemic. Still, a great video. Thanks!
it wouldn't be a better job to trace the problem and fix it correctly? just the crumbling wire harness is more than enough to make the OD solenoïd inoperative .
What size grind wheel did you use? I’ve checked all the places in my town and they only have grind wheels that are too thick, or cutting disks that are way too thin 😭
Hey.I have the same transmission but it only drives in first gear and does reverse,doesn’t going up.What could be the problem,this was really helpful cause even my overdrive light isn’t engaging too.

Whenever the overdrive has failed to go into fourth gear on my '92, I replaced the blown overdrive fuse and everything was fine. Baffled by why you didn't try to at least jumper the harness to see if the OD or OD solenoid still engaged before taking the route which you did.
So you destroy a good150$ overdrive solenoid because you are too damn lazy to fix a broken wire. I guess the car is going to the junkyard anyway so who cares...very instructive...Not.

I have done the same method on my cressida with a 5m engin. which has the same gerbox at this video. and it works perfectly.

What kinda tool did you use to get those bolts out? They are in such a tough spot.

This will work if the overdrive solenoid is not leaking fluid.. if it leaks fluid later on. You may have to get a new solenoid or bypass kit.

86 is the year they "fixed" the harness. But the wiring around the harness isn't very great

Did you not see the wiring on the solenoid? The video was shot in HD, maybe you need to upgrade your monitor. Get real dude, the car is worth scrap.
