Why did the U.S. military fight in Afghanistan when they were and, at best, a minor player in the oil industry and the U.S. was a net exporter for years while they were there? How does that work since Russian oil is hanging in the balance and Europeans are bracing for a cold winter again. @Iron gang I'll grant you that resources have played a role in almost every war that ANY country has fought in, but sure. I guess the U.S. military is just worse because reasons. I can't help but wonder why tensions are high with China right now though? Is it because we want their oil, or is it because they're under an autocratic, genocidal regime that is having territorial disputes with more countries than are even on their border? Or maybe we don't want them burning our oil, I guess, sure. Why did the U.S. military fight in Afghanistan when they were and, at best, a minor player in the oil industry and the U.S. was a net exporter for years while they were there? What about military support to Ukraine? NATO is also involved here, does that mean they want oil too? How does that work since Russian oil is hanging in the balance and Europeans are bracing for a cold winter again.
My problem with it isn't that there isn't any truth to it, its that it's a cheap and lazy oversimplification and requires absolutely no thought or critical thinking. It's like saying "Arabs crash airplanes into buildings lol", technically there is precedent, but you're still an asshole for making a dumb, asinine, and sweeping generalization as if it is the whole story. I think both are tiresome.
