- Ontario Premier Doug Ford implores the Liberal government to stop the drug epidemic that has befallen Vancouver. This comes a year after B.C. was granted an exemption from federal law making hard drugs legal. Toronto has an open application with the federal government to make all hard drugs legal.

Who does have jurisdiction here? Drug centers appear to be a provincial level thing but decriminalization is federal justice (vs policy) isnt it --considering the prior laws on the book and that this is a democratic nation then shouldn't only a jury be able to decriminalize it?

The British Columbia NDP's "harm reduction" policies morphed into "decriminalization", which then became "legalization". Consequences of this "legalization" included (a) hospital workers operating in unsafe environments, being forced to give hard drugs and alcohol to drug addicts or light up their meth and crack pipes b) patients asking for more "safe supply" drugs than they need, then selling the excess drugs on the street for money to buy the more potent and illegal narcotics.
Common sense provincial and federal conservatives are gaining more voter support to end this lunacy. Hopefully they will win their next elections.

These drugs are currently illegal in Ontario and are killing people like crazy. I volunteer at a hospital in Toronto and had to "rescue" a patient who left his room to get fentanyl outside the hospital. He OD'd in front of the hospital. We saved his miserable life. Who is to blame? Passing the buck year after year and government after government doesn't seemed to have accomplished anything.

Treatment training and temporary housing. Keep saying you need new tradesman. Feds and provinces have lots of dormant buildings and land. Maybe some post treatment apprenticeship programs deals with developers and some tent cities during rehab. Plus time to get serious if people sell this death drug.

I live in the BC East Kootneys and BC is an absolute disaster. I've been to a park with a kids playground and kids playing with homeless zombies wandering around. They put a needle disposal box across the street from the park beside city hall. The NDP and David Ebny are out to lunch and out of control.

It was Oregon voters who decided to decriminalize drugs when they passed Measure 110 in a decisive 58 percent to 42 percent vote in November 2020.
At first glance, the decision now looks spectacularly bad.
Drug overdose deaths spiked almost 50 percent, from 1,171 in 2021, when possession of drugs for personal use was decriminalized, to 1,683 in October 2023, according to the latest data available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Opioids, particularly fentanyl, caused most of the deaths, according to the Oregon Health Authority.
