  • Live from our Nursery for rescued infant elephants in Nairobi National Park, where we are providing orphaned elephants with the specialist care, love and support they need to survive, and ultimately, thrive as they journey with us towards a life back in the wild when grown.
    Join Head Keeper Edwin as he introduces the elephants and explain a little about their stories and our work to protect them.
    You can watch future lives and support our efforts at www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.or...
    Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

    Well hello guys!! Between this foundation and Jane Goodall simply cannot say enough words of respect. The dedication here and there is most impressive. Juvie ellie's are so crazy kool. I feel so sad for these animals being poached and worse for the babies who watch it. Awesome as they really love all you keepers. Well done keepers. Tsavo seems to really have a poaching problem. Tysm RIP DAME DAPHNE. ❣

      You know I think, although it's hard to tell at this angle, Kiombo pushed Ziwadi into Enkesha. She may have been reacting to that and poor little Ziwadi just got caught in the middle.

    Just like kids in a school yard - one wants to play and pushes another to instigate play and another doesn't want to share their leaves or space LOL - poor little Ziwadi - got bumped twice. I know it is part of the learning and living but makes me a little sad for that little girl. Ziwadi is so precious.

    Oh, wow - Head Keeper Edwin had some behaviors to address today - just like situations with human children. The babies respect him! That's amazing and very good, since SWT has some pretty sizable babies! 😳🐘💖

  • @carriemitch1
    @carriemitch1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I love how Edwin knows just how to handle the squabbles in the herd. His unruffled, firm and gentle response allows the babies to go right back to being calm. Today's video made me think of a question I'd not thought of before. Have you ever had an ellie whose behavior was unsafe for the others in the herd and if so, how did you handle it? I taught school for over 25 years and occasionally I've had a child whose previous trauma had left them sadly unable to cope within a group. Thanks in advance. 💜 🐘 (Just FWI, I realize these babies are just being high spirited today. I don't mean them. )

    • @SheldrickTrust

      Hi Tanzy, no we haven't. Nairobi National Park is not home to wild elephants, so it's important for the Nursery babies to graduate to one of our three Reintegration Units in Tsavo. This is where they can mix with wild elephants and critically, return to a fully wild life themselves :)
