I'm seriously considering finally opening a Facebook account for the sole purpose of checking out the Terry Kath Fan Group. CTA blew me away at Ten years old. 48 years later he's still my favorite player.
I was in my school band in the early 1970's and in the pep band we played Chicago music,it took me awhile to get use to it because of a very small school,but once we played these songs, I absolutely loved it,it made such a difference in my life, it wasn't even funny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At this point in Terry's life, he was done with this project. He, like all great artists, went through a period of self-harm, awareness. Unfortunately, with all the money and fame, he didn't make it out of the other side. The 70's was the peak of our modern civilization. Like all art, the music reflected the times. Music today reflects society in decline. All the computers, gender neutrality, abortion rights will not fix a society that is broken down and rife with moral decay. I am eternally grateful these videos exist. They are hope that we as a species are capable of such beautiful art where life is so short filled with so much pain and love.
For some reason or another I've been playing "Searching" all week. I just heard it again in my car on the way home from the grocery store. This time I really listen to allof the words for the first time in over 45 years. Incredible piece of music.
This is one "Classy" band. Probably the best back then in the 70's. Music today just does not compare to this. These guys were excellent- all of them. But I have to say, Peter and Terry were the very best. Hard to replace those two.
For sure. I saw Peter in an interview saying he went solo so he'd be more than just a singer in a band. I think everyone knows he was so much more than that. I love this whole band but I always thought of Terry and Peter as the leaders and heart of the band. I never get tired of their music.
@@cathyh8092 I agree. We loved Terry and never, ever fail to mention how revered he was & still is. Thank you for including Peter equally. They were the soul and the heart of Chicago. That makes two of us who think so! ~~~~~~~~~ Peter Cetera is not nearly praised enough.He was a frickin DYNAMO! SUCH a talent!. He gave so much and was barely noticed by his band. I think much less of Chicago for slighting him when he breathed life back into the band after the wind was sucked out of their sails at Terry's shocking death. Peter has a huge contingent of fans who recognize his talents and rightfully praise him. But many only dole out their love for Terry, like a dead, sacrificed Holy martyr. And give no credit or recognition to Peter. I am sure Terry had his 'things' that made him a faulty human being. But in this world we seem to have Terry worshippers and Peter despisers. No middle ground. When, it can and should be said BOTH were brilliant at what they did and for what they gave of themselves. I feel sorry for Cetera for always been deemed the devil infidel. PC didn't call the shots and turn them into a "sappy ballad band". Mgmt, their label & producers went where the money was and it was in those lush love songs. The public ATE that content up and wanted more and showed again and again they LOVED it. So, they band kept doing it! So, fucking don't be raggin on Peter Cetera for something beyond his control. He had talent pouring from every hole, even out his arse!! He wrote like magic. Literally everything he wrote practically had No. 1 HIT written on it. So, give the man some credit where credit was rightfully due!
@@cathyh8092 you should delete your reply to me, hon. Your comment is one of the best I've seen because you mention Peter in the same breath with love and appreciation as you speak w/ Terry. I agreed w/ you and said so. What I went on to say was something I've noticed all over the place on Chicago videos. You and I think Peter was very important to Chicago. I also loved that Terry and Peter were such tight buds, doing all their family trips and vacays together. If peter was alright by Terry, he should be alright by the rest of those who loved Terry so much. My point is Peter usually gets insulted or worse, never mentioned at all.

Tele's with Humbuckers always sound great but Terry could have made a broom sound good he was just that great of a player. Saw them in 69 & three months before they played at Tangelwood in 1970. Both times Terry just used one guitar for the show as he did & back then it was his Gibson's. At Tangelwood it was one of his Fender Strats he used for the entire set. These days folks change guitars like blinking you eye's I still wonder as many do just what would have gone down if he had had time to record with Jimi but sadly we will never know . To of the best players to come out of Rock n roll in the 60s & early to mid 70s & had they collaborated it would have been something else to hear. Seeing both Mitch Mitch ell & Danny playing on the same album & come now they would have had to if Terry & Jimi had their say & they would have had it ,that would have been glorious on the ears.
So many great bands that came out of that era and these guys didn't get the respect they deserve. Really an amazing band that made amazing music and they should have have been in the RAR HOF many years ago. Will never be another band like them....

Ken Steiger l can’t believe anyone could think Peter struggles with his voice , when Peter sings feel every emotion , even all his bandmates said he was the best tenor they ever had !!!!
Mr Terry Kath is clearly in the driver’s seat. Their is a reason the Tanglewood show has so many comments. The music enthusiasts are way more perceptive than the publicists will ever know. That particular show reveals a lot of subtle things! Terry is watching the drummer on every critical change! Locking in and keeping the tempo up. All players know that slowing down is not at all good. Rushing can increase intensity, but always needs to be controlled. Adjusted only at certain times in a song. Terry was fully aware that his playing was remarkable on this performance. Guiding the band. But without Danny in sync, the magic could be lost. Not that the other bandmates couldn’t take over. But everyone knew that the band sounded best when Terry had the ball. Keeping egos in check, must have been hard. That selfless vibe from everyone is so endearing to watch! I think it’s the main reason the show is so intensely emotional and popular.
Tema hermosísimo!!! I love how it says Terry Kath spotlight, and yet when he starts tearing it up you can't see him! The spotlights should have been solely on him at all times.
I wish he had been able to bring his trio project to fruition before his passing. I can only imagine how great the possibilities of him leading a guitar driven band could have been.
I’ve heard many versions of this song with Peter singing and this has to be my very favorite. Beautiful song, Jimmy’s a genius and Peters voice is absolutely amazing.
This next Hendrix quote shows the highest respect one musician can possibly hold for another. Hendrix, over the microphone in the middle of a concert says, "You gotta check out this guy Terry Kath. His band is CTA. He's the best guitar player in the universe."
Which concert was that? The story I heard was Hendrix saying to Lamm, "Your guitar player is better than me." Either way, Hendrix was right, Kath was better in a band and in general. Nothing can touch Hendrix for pure creativity and lyrics however.
@@TheNaturalust The best documentary I've seen about Terry Kath is by his daughter who was only a toddler when he died. This documentary tells his story with all the good and bad. In it, Jimi Hendrix saw and heard Terry Kath in person and immediately told him that he was better on the guitar than himself and he hired Chicago Transit Authority to open for him on his next tour. I saw both groups together in 1969 before the CTA album was released and nobody had heard of them. When the MC introduced them, he slurred their name and none of us could understand it. They opened with "I'm a Man" and closed with "Only the Beginning". After they finished, the MC said, "Now it's time for Jimi Hendrix!", the crowd screamed, "No, not yet! We want to hear more from these guys, whoever they are!" I saw the original Chicago Transit Authority with Terry Kath 3 more times afterwards. Their second album had their new name, "Chicago" by then. Rumor had it that the city said they couldn't use their first name but they could use the second one. Go figure.
@ You lucky dog! What an amazing time for evolving rock music. There was something in the air that affected the music and culture so strongly and wonderfully in a relatively short time it seems. I’m curious what you, who were there, think caused that period of so much fantastic music and creativity? Was it the drugs? A rebound from a less free culture? New music marketing and distribution techniques? Television? It was before my time but as a musician there is so much there that is impossible to ignore. Thanks!

All the old hits, all the good songs. I sang along with every song along with forty thousand other concert goers.
Great concert.
That's pretty cool. I love the '75 New Year's Rockin Eve with Chicago, Beach Boys, Olivia Newton John, and the Doobie bros. Life was so different. The world seemed like a much bigger place and full of wonder.
@@shorelined1THE world did seem so full of promise and wonder back then, didn't it? What happened??? Is it because we "grew up"?
I think the internet takes a lot of the blame, as wonderful as it is I think it's taken away so much of our imagination and creativity. There's other things too, but that was the first one that came to mind.
Anyone else have other ideas???
I'm obsessed with Terry Kath.
+Binky Ferrari Hi Binky, be sure to check out the Terry Kath Fan Group on Facebook. It's the perfect place for those obsessed with Terry. We are all obsessed.
Will do.
Me too. I think that he was smoking hot especially singing wishing you were here
I'm seriously considering finally opening a Facebook account for the sole purpose of checking out the Terry Kath Fan Group. CTA blew me away at Ten years old. 48 years later he's still my favorite player.
I actually just joined that page a couple of days ago. Nice content.
I agree 👍 💯!!
Gotta disagree. Giving marginalized people more recognition isnt a bad thing...and the 70s had its share of horrible music as well.
You speak the truth! Well said!
Terry was a gun collector and cleaning one out he looked into the barrel and the trigger went off. RIP
Laura Story🙏
Who feels like crying when listening to this?
Gabriel Jimenez. It takes me back every time I listen to it , which is a lot ! !
I am so thankful for this video , I can't believe how many times I have watched it , I love Peters vocals on this and Terrys playing is so awesome ! !
Every time without fail.
😭
Bob Marley how about back up vocals ? I might get paid 😳🇺🇸⚓️✊🏻
Terry Kath was an amazing guitarist and such a good Blues singers so soulful
For some reason or another I've been playing "Searching" all week. I just heard it again in my car on the way home from the grocery store. This time I really listen to allof the words for the first time in over 45 years. Incredible piece of music.
Terry will live on forever, such a special gifted man. Any true guitar player knows he was the pioneer of countless techniques and sounds.
Only the Beatles had more hits then this band and Terry was the greatest guitarist ever..hands down...even Hendrix himself said it.
@@cathyh8092 I agree. We loved Terry and never, ever fail to mention how revered he was & still is. Thank you for including Peter equally. They were the soul and the heart of Chicago. That makes two of us who think so!
~~~~~~~~~
Peter Cetera is not nearly praised enough.He was a frickin DYNAMO! SUCH a talent!.
He gave so much and was barely noticed by his band.
I think much less of Chicago for slighting him when he breathed life back into the band after the wind was sucked out of their sails at Terry's shocking death.
Peter has a huge contingent of fans who recognize his talents and rightfully praise him. But many only dole out their love for Terry, like a dead, sacrificed Holy martyr. And give no credit or recognition to Peter. I am sure Terry had his 'things' that made him a faulty human being.
But in this world we seem to have Terry worshippers and Peter despisers. No middle ground. When, it can and should be said BOTH were brilliant at what they did and for what they gave of themselves.
I feel sorry for Cetera for always been deemed the devil infidel. PC didn't call the shots and turn them into a "sappy ballad band". Mgmt, their label & producers went where the money was and it was in those lush love songs. The public ATE that content up and wanted more and showed again and again they LOVED it. So, they band kept doing it!
So, fucking don't be raggin on Peter Cetera for something beyond his control. He had talent pouring from every hole, even out his arse!! He wrote like magic. Literally everything he wrote practically had No. 1 HIT written on it.
So, give the man some credit where credit was rightfully due!
@@cathyh8092 you should delete your reply to me, hon. Your comment is one of the best I've seen because you mention Peter in the same breath with love and appreciation as you speak w/ Terry. I agreed w/ you and said so.
What I went on to say was something I've noticed all over the place on Chicago videos. You and I think Peter was very important to Chicago. I also loved that Terry and Peter were such tight buds, doing all their family trips and vacays together. If peter was alright by Terry, he should be alright by the rest of those who loved Terry so much.
My point is Peter usually gets insulted or worse, never mentioned at all.
@@moodylicious okay I guess I misunderstood. It's been a long time since I posted a comment and I guess I needed to re read what I commented. Sorry.
Terry just knocks it out of the park here...holy cats! Those notes he hits are celestial!
Think about this. This was live. No auto tune. No fancy computers. Just musicians playing directly into microphones and out thru the speakers.
Nothing is more real than that!
Terry Kath was the heart of the group. I remember where I was when I heard the news of his accident. That was a bad day. 😔😔😔
It was DEVASTATING, HEARTBREAKING AND A TREMENDOUS LOSS TO MUSIC FANS EVERYWHERE!!! There will NEVER be another like Terry Kath....😢❤😢❤❤
Lee nailed this one. Terry is great, as usual.
Marc Juneau Lee playing some twist on Herb Alpert Tijuana Brass charting Saw these guys w Earth Wind and Fire. That brass sound full and rich. That joining was God inspired. Best concerts ever for both groups vocals horn charts were out of this world. Check videos for their concerts together. Super group
The 60's and 70's had the vocal harmonies and orchestrations. I'm hearing Herb Albert in those horns. ❤
Definitely!!! Herb was absolutely fantastic!!!
massive talent all across that stage
Just couldn't believe white boy could play soulful music like that....wow Terry outstanding another Ray Charles with the voice and Danny the drummer, good God Almighty, I'm a drummer and to this day I still don't see how he played and all the band members were too cold for words.And every time they came to town I and my friend Carlos was there shouting,yelling.That will always be #1band in my life
Left out how Terry could make his guitar talk to you,Terry Mr.Guitar Man 4 real !!!! And if you didn't know, now you know !!!!
There will never be another group like the original Chicago. It's also, not possible for another Terry Kath in my lifetime. So glad I got to see them when I was a young man
Some of those notes Cetara always seems to hit just put me in heaven.
That Telecaster of Terry's must have been the proudest guitar on God's green earth. The sounds-incredible.
Tele's with Humbuckers always sound great but Terry could have made a broom sound good he was just that great of a player. Saw them in 69 & three months before they played at Tangelwood in 1970. Both times Terry just used one guitar for the show as he did & back then it was his Gibson's. At Tangelwood it was one of his Fender Strats he used for the entire set. These days folks change guitars like blinking you eye's I still wonder as many do just what would have gone down if he had had time to record with Jimi but sadly we will never know . To of the best players to come out of Rock n roll in the 60s & early to mid 70s & had they collaborated it would have been something else to hear. Seeing both Mitch Mitch ell & Danny playing on the same album & come now they would have had to if Terry & Jimi had their say & they would have had it ,that would have been glorious on the ears.
@@paullevine1813 You were lucky to have seen them in their prime. I would have loved to have seen them in concert in the late 60s and early 70s.
Peter had the voice of an angel. I love the original 7. Sooo much talent on the stage at once. Wonderful 💕
Robert Lamm needs an applause here as the vocalist and keyboardist, three guys played and sang.
Brooklyn in the house Rob lamm
Terry Kath was truly amazing. He had skills!
My gosh, they were the best band back in the 70’s and I still love hearing their music to this day!❤❤
So amazing
You have to recognize how hard these work. 50 freaking years and they still do 100 shows a year..
The textures these guys weaved together are amazing. It All fit soooo well.
Still amazing to listen to live. Terry Kath!! This whole band was great live!!
The brilliant duo of Kath and Cetera!
Better add Danny, it's a trio of personality, the rest are great players but anyone could fill their shoes.
😍😍😍😍🥰😘
So many great bands that came out of that era and these guys didn't get the respect they deserve. Really an amazing band that made amazing music and they should have have been in the RAR HOF many years ago. Will never be another band like them....
We were all blessed to live through those years to really feel and enjoy.
Never
Terry Kath gave that band their soul. He was amazing.
It is the Only Chicago I listen too
Amazing and Reverent.
Excellent musicians, the fact that got together and collaborated unreal, huge fan
Nothing better than this line up, pure magic👍
The documentary Kath's daughter did was amazing.
I didn't know he had a daughter. I'll have to search for that, thanks so much! Yes, he was one of the few who could play lead guitarist and sing at the same time was amazing. I was fortunate to have lived during that time and collected all of their albums. Fond memories.
I would like to know more about the Stratocaster he had WOW !!!
Yes. I was a fan. but it was the morning I came across the documentary by accident that motivated me to listen to more of there music which motivated me to listen to more.
Now id have to say they're genuinely in the top 5 for me.
@@dannycorser I just watched it, Terry’s daughter’s documentary. Free on TH-cam. It’s excellent, and the guitar you mentioned is there! 💕
Terry Kath. One of Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarists
Sooooooo Good-Thank you Chicago for all my years of listening
TERRY KATH 🔥🔥🔥🔥🧨🧨🧨🧨💥💥💥💥☄️☄️☄️☄️
Gone but NEVER to be forgotten...
great music & memories of life for 50 years, solid gold standard of excellence, absolutely phenomenal band, 100% pure talent, very special classic, top of the line, Peter Cetera sounds unbelievable, priceless music & video, two masterpiece performances
He was one amazing, amazing cat. I listen to music now, non-Chicago stuff, and listen for him. He left a hole in the music universe when he left us.
I totally agree with you, he was absolutely amazing, just think if he was still here,he definitely changed my life because of band,I love when bands use every instrument available to them,that's what makes it amazing amazing ❤❤❤❤!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of favorite songs by Chicago. Aside from Pete's soulful vocals, Terry's stinging guitar solo blows me away!
Well said.
Jennifer Puhl the beauty of live performances. It's not all polished and perfect. It's all perspective, I suppose.
Jennifer Puhl yeah he is definitely struggling here.
Ken Steiger l can’t believe anyone could think Peter struggles with his voice , when Peter sings feel every emotion , even all his bandmates said he was the best tenor they ever had !!!!
Great! Saw at Blossom Music Center 1976.
Mr Terry Kath is clearly in the driver’s seat. Their is a reason the Tanglewood show has so many comments. The music enthusiasts are way more perceptive than the publicists will ever know. That particular show reveals a lot of subtle things! Terry is watching the drummer on every critical change! Locking in and keeping the tempo up. All players know that slowing down is not at all good. Rushing can increase intensity, but always needs to be controlled. Adjusted only at certain times in a song. Terry was fully aware that his playing was remarkable on this performance. Guiding the band. But without Danny in sync, the magic could be lost. Not that the other bandmates couldn’t take over. But everyone knew that the band sounded best when Terry had the ball. Keeping egos in check, must have been hard. That selfless vibe from everyone is so endearing to watch! I think it’s the main reason the show is so intensely emotional and popular.
Tema hermosísimo!!! Maravilloso, lo escuchaba en radio y salía corriendo a subir full el volumen!! ...era una locura quizás yo tendría 13 años y ahora por vez primera lo oigo y veo este video en vivo 😮 maravilloso!! Música de verdad y muy bien realizado con el fantástico Terry kath R.I.P....Este tema i been searching so long es lo maximo 😮😮❤
I love how it says Terry Kath spotlight, and yet when he starts tearing it up you can't see him! The spotlights should have been solely on him at all times.
I agree....the timing was a bit off!
I wish he had been able to bring his trio project to fruition before his passing. I can only imagine how great the possibilities of him leading a guitar driven band could have been.
😊😅😊😊p
I’ve heard many versions of this song with Peter singing and this has to be my very favorite. Beautiful song, Jimmy’s a genius and Peters voice is absolutely amazing.
I agree Peter has the VOICE !!!!!!!
This next Hendrix quote shows the highest respect one musician can possibly hold for another. Hendrix, over the microphone in the middle of a concert says, "You gotta check out this guy Terry Kath. His band is CTA. He's the best guitar player in the universe."
Ferry Muskitta and Jimi was right
Ya great
Which concert was that? The story I heard was Hendrix saying to Lamm, "Your guitar player is better than me." Either way, Hendrix was right, Kath was better in a band and in general. Nothing can touch Hendrix for pure creativity and lyrics however.
@@TheNaturalust The best documentary I've seen about Terry Kath is by his daughter who was only a toddler when he died. This documentary tells his story with all the good and bad. In it, Jimi Hendrix saw and heard Terry Kath in person and immediately told him that he was better on the guitar than himself and he hired Chicago Transit Authority to open for him on his next tour.
I saw both groups together in 1969 before the CTA album was released and nobody had heard of them. When the MC introduced them, he slurred their name and none of us could understand it. They opened with "I'm a Man" and closed with "Only the Beginning".
After they finished, the MC said, "Now it's time for Jimi Hendrix!", the crowd screamed, "No, not yet! We want to hear more from these guys, whoever they are!"
I saw the original Chicago Transit Authority with Terry Kath 3 more times afterwards. Their second album had their new name, "Chicago" by then. Rumor had it that the city said they couldn't use their first name but they could use the second one. Go figure.
@ You lucky dog! What an amazing time for evolving rock music. There was something in the air that affected the music and culture so strongly and wonderfully in a relatively short time it seems.
I’m curious what you, who were there, think caused that period of so much fantastic music and creativity? Was it the drugs? A rebound from a less free culture? New music marketing and distribution techniques? Television? It was before my time but as a musician there is so much there that is impossible to ignore. Thanks!
Timeless.
They were GREAT!
Way beyond my fav groups by far . ty Chicago for creating such beautiful music
Goosebumps real goosebumps.
I completely forgot about this song ,dawm sounds good after all these years
Couldn’t agree more. Incredible guitarist
Excellent writers and musicians contribute to songs and music you just can't get tired of.
Just superb and pure pleasure listening to and/or dancing to. Love this band!
My God...Terry Kath's Guitar Solo here was So Freakin AWESOME
"When my days have come to an end, I will understand, What I left behind, A part of me baby now, I've been searchin', so long, to find the answer" Awesome words that make sense to me. Great music. At least I think so. Me, Dave
So so true , this song rocks , Peter is amazing on this one ! !
You're not the only one! It doesn't get any better..This is as classic and pure as it gets. I'm so glad I grew up knowing truely talented musicians and musicianship. " The Good Things in life take a long time"😊 RIP Terry....💖
I used to go see them at Pine Knob Music Theatre every year. Loved this band when all the original members were in it. Always a great time 💕
Love Chicago so much
What a great band. The best. Thank you for share this video.
Outstanding performances by all! Wish I was there
One of my favorite song
We want more! We want more!
Yes Hendrix and T.Kath!!! Absolutely brilliant they were
I marveled at his solo on 25 or 6 to 4 when I was a youngster. Didn't know who the guitar player was, or the band really at the time. It was back in the days of hit singles and 45's!
Terry Kath always had the fresh NHL jerseys
otteaux he was a lifelong Blackhawks fan. Look at the top of the guitar, just where the neck starts.....
I’ve never seen a photo of Terry wearing a Blackhawks jersey.
We miss Terry Kath.
Peters voice and Terry on guitar= The best music.
When I was learning to play guitar in the late 1960s as a teenager Terry Kath grabbed my attention instantly with their first album CTA. Terry is a beast on the guitar and great vocals.
Got a chance to see him in 1975, MSG, Chicago was touring with the Beach Boys.
Awesome!
