7:52 You can't attack me like this D: Jokes aside good vid man. I have Anandas, LCD-1's and Nightowl Carbons and despite the Anandas being my favorite sound out of the three, I still use the Carbons most often because they're just so comfy and as you said, comfort plays a huge role. Some day I'd love to try any of the 4 aeons since a warm planar lighter than the lcd-2's sounds interesting, and comfort wise I hear that these are either equal or slightly above the Nightowls. And I've tried the 2's but I agree with you that eventually I'll pick some up. But the comfort....
I own these, and haven’t nearly made it through the break in period hours yet, but while the mid and treble range sound great, I’ve been very disappointed with the bass response in these so far. Compared to others I’ve experienced in a comparable price category (like the Meze 109 Pro, Focal Radiance, or even the much cheaper Audio Technica M50), I found these to really lack any real bass response and have no kick to them at all in the lower frequencies. Doing a pad swap made a very minor difference, and tweaking the EQ levels on my computer improved it slightly as well, but nowhere near as much as I hoped. While I may change my opinion if things change quite a bit after the break in period, at this point I wouldn’t recommend these for anyone that likes or wants a stronger bass response. But they are an extremely comfortable and attractive set of headphone, and are really enjoyable for any kind of music that has a heavy focus on treble and midrange frequencies.
I got the original Aeon closed back a couple months ago (right before the world went to crap, lol) and I am thoroughly in love. I still can't believe how good these sound and I was infatuated with my modded T50RP's. I haven't picked them up once since I got the Aeons.

I'm glad i found an audiophile channel, reviews are crystal clear and honest. Been looking for a good one. -My wallet is screaming don't do it!!!!!!!!! (been dipping bit by bit in the audiophile space)
I tried these at an audio show and they didn't do much for me. I love mrspeakers though. I own an Alpha Dog for fun listening. Maybe I should give the Aeon another shot. Looking for a sub $1000 headphone for detail and competitive gaming. Been debating between the Koss ESP95X, DT1990, a Stax 3100 set, and the LCD2C. Any other recommendations or would you say the Aeon now?
Just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago. I love the energy you bring to your videos, as well as your positivity. Excellent production quality, too! Happily subscribed :)
I owned an LCD2 for a few months but sold them. They were the heaviest, most uncomfortable headphone I have ever owned. At one point I owned both original aeons and the Ether CX but only kept the CX. I like an analytical, flat sound and the Ether CX as well as the Etymotic ER4 series are the best for this. A tip for the CX: try them with the two-notch white filters and Yaxi's Alcantara pads for the Fostex 900. It really improves them. Cheers!
Great review. I have a pair coming. I own the Aeon X Open and it's a surprisingly good headphone, especially for the money. If this is even slightly better, I'm psyched.
Great review! I was torn between getting these or the Aeon 2 open since Dan had them on sale recently, ended up getting the Aeon 2 and they are amazing. Cant really compare to the originals as I have not heard them but many of your points apply to the 2 as well, its super natural sounding and has a nice bass response that is not overblown but very present and fun. High end is perfect for my taste, little too much energy around 5-6k though. The only real major flaw for me is that the area from 4-5k is dipped a bit too much for my taste. A little EQ fixes that though! i am using them with the Creative g6 which I dont think is ideal either, need to get something better!
I love your reviews. I just bought these headphones before getting halfway through your video. I need another pair of headphones like I need a third eye, but damned if you didn't compel me to pull the trigger on these cans.
Really helpful. I really like my HiFiMain Sundara, particularly with Oratory1990 EQ driven by a Schiit Hel 2 (and somewhat liked EQ-d BD DT1990 Pro) but need to go for a closed back with decent soundstage. What would I miss (and gain) getting the Closed X (as many say it's similar to Open X) vs the Sundara, considering I don't mind EQing, listen to just about everything). E.g. soundstage, the softness/lack of slam you mention, vs Sundara, Thanks!
J S Thanks for the info. Interesting. On ASR most of the Schiit and mainstream audio stuff tests poorly, and reviews on headphones based using them are basically based on a mix of distortion and worthless.
I was wondering the same thing and found in a headfi forum where Dan Clark says something like 70% percent is from the pads on the drop but then some retuning was done internally adding more bass. Something song those lines.
Basically, yes. The RT has more bass and you can choose an upgraded cable when you buy from them, so there's really no reason to not buy the RT because you could always turn the bass down easily through EQ.
Loving your content, dude. I ran into your channel a couple of days ago while researching on what DAC/AMP/combo I should buy for my HD598, your videos are super interesting and informative. So far chances are I'll be going with the Fulla 3 since the 90 extra dollars for the Hel don't seem to add much more than a mic gain control and some amp power that I don't need. But thanks to you I'm not blowing my money without being informed!
If you likes these you should try the Aeon 2. The closed and open are both good. From what I've heard it's a noticeable upgrade. Oh and you can find the Aeon 2 for much cheaper than $900 now.
BadSeed Tech yeah I had the closed version for awhile and really enjoyed them. And for being closed they had pretty good soundstage. They didn't feel like a typical closed back. And you're right, the comfort of these are amazing. I was able to pick them up for $750 shipped. They were basically an open box/review pair in excellent condition. The reason I sold them was because I like the Focal Elegia more, just a little bit more. The elegia feels really open for a closed back. I could see someone keeping both but I already had the fostex ebony and I have to have rules with this hobby lol.
Be interesting if you would compare against the HE5se or Deva. I find the HE5se to be extremely detailed, and relatively intimate for an open back. Devas are far more open, but not quite as detailed.
I have the Audeze LCD-2C (which stands for classic not closed) and they are amazing. I also have a pair of the iSine 20's and if you want some in ears that will blow your mind. check those out. you'll love the Audeze brand once you have a listen, so you're doin the right thing by waiting until you think your ears have matured and can appreciate the gloriousness lol Having recently discovering this channel, over the past few days this is quickly becoming my new favorite. Man I love your review always so well thought up and detailed. I tried to order the AKG K7XX for gaming but they sold out before I finally able to order them. So my question is,obviously gaming wouldn't be the only reason, but how do these hold up against the AKG for positional gaming awesomeness?
Thank you for helping me with my decisions, but I started to play with in-ear headphones because of skin issues on my head. Can only recommend it to someone with similar problems.
My friend, you need to try the LCD-2. I've had the he400, he4xx, hd6xx, editionxx, and I can say the LCD-2 beats them all in all aspect. Only minus is the weight LOL
I can deal with the weight. I feel like Im working my way towards them. Really wanted to go to a show to listen around but the whole covid thing popped off.
@@badseedtech been comparing the LCD X and GX for a month now. I think you should try the GX. It is the newest one they make with their best components in the full size line and is lighter. It is designed to be that all purpose all day headphone and I think would make a better comparison against a newer design like aeon. It is tuned to sound natural and does it better than the rest. You will love the audeze house sound regardless. I can't wait for you to try them.
Been debating between the LCD2C, Koss ESP95X, and DT1990 for detail and competitive gaming. I already have plenty of fun headphones. Do you have any experience with any of these?
Forrest Gibson i find the lcd-2 isnt that good for gaming. And its too heavy for prolong use. I am using the hifiman edition xx and i find it images very well with airy soundstage for accurate enemy footsteps when gaming. Its very light and comfortable. Highly recommend checking it out. As for dt1990, i’ve not tried. But i’ve had the dt880 and i didn’t like the comfort of the clamp, it was very strong and could only wear it 30mins max at a time. Otherwise i get headache.

yeah you know that part where you said that the further down the audio rabbit hole you go, the more you realize you need to have different headphones for different situations? A couple years ago all I used was some hd650s on a little amp DAC combo and I swore that was endgame... fast forward to today and I have about $6,000 in only three sets of headphones. That does not include the rest of my headphones, my solid state amps my tube amps my dacs.... Watch out it's addictive
My worry is your experience as I have seen in many comments (I do read those)... My ear evolved from cheaper headphones to the cheap SPH9500s, and man, do I want more. Still no DAC/AMP since I cannot decide what to do yet, but then I was interested in the DT1990s, and planars have been an interest for a while. My worry is, the deep rabbit hole I may find myself in, always going for the next upper tier sound; fuck the wallet, I do like sleeping on my bed, and that's what I'm mostly worried about lol.
Yo Brian, can you please do a review to the Soundblaster x3, it has Sxfi, 7.1, and can drive most of the hungry headphones, your my only trusted audio guidance Appreciate the work you put in your videos man!
i got a question, i have got a mechanical keyboard with outemu brown switches will rubber keycaps fit on them. The keyboard is "Dierya mechanical keyboard (dk-63) by kemove.
Could you review the Cooler Master MP510, I've been wanting to buy it, but I'm not sure whether to do so. Your opinion would really help me make my choice.
picked up a pair of these and HOLY SHIT i love them, so fun to listen to. made the mistake of not turning down my volume my first time playing warzone with the high dynamic range on and i almost pissed myself
I bought the Aeon Open X and the audio quality is so good but the glossy plastic though...and the earcups are very comfy BUT still not better than the Sennheiser HD 800s.
Have you done a review on the Focal elex? I'd really like to see that. I pre-ordered, but don't get them until the end of August. I love your reviews because I can relate a lot more than to other reviewers'. Oluvs gadgets was the nail in the coffin for me dropping the cash, but I would love to see what you have to say about them

It feels like yesterday when I was looking for new pair of $100 headphones... Now we are here and I'm already hitting the wall with my credit card company ;)
From what I hear they're good at the sale price they recently had $700, but you can probably do better for the normal asking price. $1200ish is pretty high and you start competing with zmf, focal clears, lcdx, etc.
Hahahaha the condom analogy... classic... been subbed for a little while and wow your reviews are both entertaining and informative... thanks to you I’ve got a 6xx and a 4xx... Aeon flow x or 1990 are next
@BadSeed Tech , Have you gotten a chance to try the Closed variant that recently came out on drop? I've heard that Mr Speakers/Dan Clark does closed even better than open but I can't find any reviews for the Aeon Closed X, and hardly any for the Closed RT, which they are supposedly identical to.
Hey Badseed Tech, I've been trying to find a good headset PS4 for great hearing clarity and background noise cancellation for games like Rainbow six mainly, but with a clean clear mic, and possibly wireless but I'll settle for wire if it's better. Would love your advice on my search.
Hey will the dan clark x drop aeon headphones scale well with the schitt magni modi +3 stack?, very new this stuff and I just want the end all be all for my setup that I am currently building
If I get these. Cause I have been keeping an eye out for a planar open back THAT reviewers praise the kick or bass to a point. But I want to use my CreativeX G6 atleast for another year before I upgrade to AAA789. I have no issues waiting to buy both. But I gotta know. What did you not like about them on the G6? Would it be worth it on only a G6 for a year?
Nah, its not worth it tbh. They’re noticeably underpowered. Not enough volume on some tracks and the dynamics just weren’t there. It makes them sound like $150 headphones.
Did you have Ether CX there? Do you have a video coming out with them? I'm really interested on those as there's not too many reviews on them on youtube. I got a deal on them used and have been using them as main headphones for few months. So much step up from 58X, M1060C open mod etc. With Monolith THX AAA Dac/amp. Nice to see other gamers getting into the audio rabbit hole, gaming and everything else is a lot more fun with nice headphones!
Yo, Brian you need to make a tier list of the headphones you have used, it would be a great help.
Agreed. This would be incredible.
Please Bad Seed!

most underrated channel on earth , keep it up
yeah you know that part where you said that the further down the audio rabbit hole you go, the more you realize you need to have different headphones for different situations?
A couple years ago all I used was some hd650s on a little amp DAC combo and I swore that was endgame... fast forward to today and I have about $6,000 in only three sets of headphones. That does not include the rest of my headphones, my solid state amps my tube amps my dacs.... Watch out it's addictive
They do look nice, im looking to buy Blon B20/SIVGA PII or Verum 1 headphones... I hate that i cant get to listen to them first before buying them. :(
My worry is your experience as I have seen in many comments (I do read those)...
Your every review: THIS IS MY NEW FAVOURITE!
Oh yeah 10000% - Oh, except for the 6xx and the Sundara and the Ether CX and the Focal Elex and the TR-X00 and...
Yo Brian, can you please do a review to the Soundblaster x3, it has Sxfi, 7.1, and can drive most of the hungry headphones, your my only trusted audio guidance
Appreciate the work you put in your videos man!
Excellent review, which will you recommend more, focal elegia or drop + dan Clark aeon?
Your voice is so soothing, very nice to listen to lol
These or DT1990's for gaming?
i got a question, i have got a mechanical keyboard with outemu brown switches will rubber keycaps fit on them. The keyboard is "Dierya mechanical keyboard (dk-63) by kemove.
if money was not an issue, what would be your ideal audio setup for pc gaming?
Could you review the Cooler Master MP510, I've been wanting to buy it, but I'm not sure whether to do so. Your opinion would really help me make my choice.
picked up a pair of these and HOLY SHIT i love them, so fun to listen to. made the mistake of not turning down my volume my first time playing warzone with the high dynamic range on and i almost pissed myself
If 90% of the time I am gaming (and don't want to spend $500), what would you recommend? (I have a passdown magni 3+ if needed)
I bought the Aeon Open X and the audio quality is so good but the glossy plastic though...and the earcups are very comfy BUT still not better than the Sennheiser HD 800s.
Badseed, got any recommendations for kind of a middle ground between these and the TYGR 300R? Maybe in terms of both quality of product and cost?
Have you done a review on the Focal elex? I'd really like to see that. I pre-ordered, but don't get them until the end of August. I love your reviews because I can relate a lot more than to other reviewers'. Oluvs gadgets was the nail in the coffin for me dropping the cash, but I would love to see what you have to say about them
Great video once again. May I ask how they compare to the sennheiser 6xx?
Could you review the schiit Loki EQ I'm curious to see if that will bring in the clear high send for the " footstep whoring"
These compared to the Sennheiser HD for gaming?
Im thinking of picking this up im coming from 599 no dac or amp which one should i get for dac amp ? Do these good for a big head ? I feel a bit tight on 599s senheiser
Have you ever hear the Focal Clears?
Are these easy to drive with out an amp or dac
While this is far stretched. I think that Sennheiser HD800/HD800S would make for a superb set of headphones to review.
It feels like yesterday when I was looking for new pair of $100 headphones...
Now we are here and I'm already hitting the wall with my credit card company ;)
keep up the goodwork man!
You should check out the Klipsch HP-3's, my #1
I only heard the Klipsch HP-3s once in my life and I think that might be my endgame. Once I'm not poor of course :(
From what I hear they're good at the sale price they recently had $700, but you can probably do better for the normal asking price. $1200ish is pretty high and you start competing with zmf, focal clears, lcdx, etc.
What's the difference between headphones like this and the ones that can not use an amp?
Hahahaha the condom analogy... classic... been subbed for a little while and wow your reviews are both entertaining and informative... thanks to you I’ve got a 6xx and a 4xx... Aeon flow x or 1990 are next
@BadSeed Tech
Well the straight forward just got REALLY FORWARD
Still great info sir dont stop
I’ve been subbed since 20k keep it up bro👏👏👏
I swear I'm here gaming while you're playing in the background. It's like asmr
What do you do if you want to game on console and mic setup ?
Hey Badseed Tech, I've been trying to find a good headset PS4 for great hearing clarity and background noise cancellation for games like Rainbow six mainly, but with a clean clear mic, and possibly wireless but I'll settle for wire if it's better. Would love your advice on my search.
How do the RT Open compare to the RT closed?
@@badseedtech You rock man! Thank you!
More reasons to get a 789 and some time to save up for both!
can i use these headphones with just a TC Helicon GoXLR? or do i need an amp with it also?
Brian my man.. what's going to be the 2021 daily driver? any predictions? i'm rocking the same smsl su-8/drop thx aaa 789
Hey Brian are you still rocking these?!
Yes, he is.
Ooooh boy. I was looking forward to this. Awesome stuff as usual, B. []'s
Thank you sir!
aeon release a headphone now? I usually only bought some groceries from them but never electronic products.
God those look sexy, I'm still new to open back and my pc37x is nothing compared to these, but I think investing in audio is very rewarding
Not related to the video but I just paracorded my first mouse and the only thing that was going through my mind was *STRESS*
Hello will you review de JBL quantum gaming series??
can you review the iFi Zen Dac and compare it to other same price tier like K5 pro. TY!
just subbed!
I love the videos man
Thanks so much
