Proper epoxy job. Sand for wood, grind for concrete. Sweep, vacuum, roll your entire project. It doesn’t cure as fast as you think. Wear spiked shoes so you can walk throughout the epoxied area and throw your flakes at the ceiling and they will disperse much much more evenly. Then once your chips and epoxy have sat for 24hrs. Come back and scrape the surface with a scraper to get any loose flakes up. Vacuum the whole floor then SEAL it with a good sealer. Helpful tip is to squeegee the epoxy on a garage floor while someone with a roller follows you
You did a very good job! As for the chips - remember it is a cargo trailer floor that you are going to walk on, drive on, drop things on and spill things on - if you really don’t like the way the chips turned out on the walls you can always cover with a black or grey vinyl base. I think you epoxy floor and upturn looks great!
Hello sir, thank you for posting the whole process. TH-cam has speed adjustment so, I just used that where needed. I've got a little pile of questions. I hope that's okay. I am wondering how much, if any, paint/epoxy you had left over? Would it be worth trying to mix some of each A and B into a separate container to preserve the rest for another project, etc? Once mixed, does it get warm like typical epoxy sealant? Does it dry really hard in a brittle sort of way? That is to say, if the floor were to flex with the movement of the trailer, or expand and contract with heat and cold, would it crack or separate at the seams? And final questions, did the the paint fill in your screw holes? Do you think you'd be able to take/back the screws out, paint it, and then replace them for access later on? I also liked the idea to paint a few inches up the wall. I'll def. use that for myself, as well. Thank you for your time, and your service, and I look forward to more videos in the future.
Rayne, thanks for the comment. Once I mixed part A and part B together after I had completed the project I had about a 1/4 of a gallon left over. I lathered on the epoxy pretty thick and I used some of the epoxy on my shelves. I think it's a good idea to preserve some into A and B parts, but I'm not sure how the longevity of that would be when it comes to shelf life once its open and resealed? For your second question of the flex, for the most part, it seems like it will flex decently well. It was only brittle on the edges, but it really wasn't anything to complain about I think for the purposes I'm using it for. The paint did fill in the screw holes and you can't see where they were screwed in. It'll be a pain to replace, but I think if you had good plywood to begin with you'll be ok. One last piece of advice, I went 2 inches up on the wall, I wish I went a little bit higher. I hope that helped!
Painted the walls with Sherman Williams Tread Plex, and a diamond tread vinyl roll on the floor. Caulked around. Trailer is now completely waterproof/grease proof and can be pressure washed if it gets really dirty
To tackle the rust it's easy...buy POR15, they have it in semi-gloss and gloss, since that's the back of the trailer I'd go with the gloss. There is no prep really either, it bonds to the metal. If you like you could blast it with something first or hit it with a DA but POR15 is the BEST, you'll see it when you pay for it too!
Just as a note to por15 I love that stuff but if you use it anywhere it will get any kind of sun exposure it will break down and come off. It does not have any UV block. But after using just top coat it with a paint that does and your all set. Just learned this from experience.
I used one step Behr Garage Floor paint and added chips on a previous trailer. It has held up well. I have a new trailer sitting in the driveway and think I will use porch paint on it. Planning on Harley Orange with silver/black non-skid flakes. I may use some aluminum diamond plate in the center of the ramp and rear tire contact area.
That Harley orange with the silver flakes will look really cool! That’ll be a great look. You can’t beat the diamond plate either. Sounds like you’ll have a nice setup.
You really did a great job. I think your sides look fine. I think you even did a pretty decent job with the flakes. When spring gets here I'm using that exact same kit and color that you did. I have a friend of mine who's going to put the flakes down I am no good at things like that lol. How did that anti-slip stuff work out? Was it worth it or just don't waste money? I have seen where some guys get sand and mix it up in the can or sometime when the paint is almost dry they throw the sand across the floor and once the floor is 100% done they go back with brooms and sweep up all the loose sand. I don't like that method I think it made the floor too rough.
Thanks I really appreciate that! I think the anti slip worked out pretty well. I should have used two bags looking back on it. I wouldn’t have thought of using sand. I hope yours turns out well this spring, good luck!
Thanks for the video. When I watched this I did it and it was the best idea to do. I go to the dunes so sand, mud and water gets in it and its been holding up amazing for 6 months now. I will say do not do it in the Winter cause it will take longer to dry.
Thanks for the video. Is the paint holding up good still? Wondering if it would work on a rough plywood floor for my mowers just heard the paint is hard on breaking down the glue for ply wood didnt know. Looks good buddy.
Much appreciated, thanks. If I’m being honest, this works best for me because I’m mostly walking on it and putting my motorcycle in it a few times a year. I don’t know if it would be good with a constant in and out. I’ve had it installed for almost two months now and it’s holding up well so far. Hopefully that answer helped.
I use herculine for my ramp and drive my 52 and 32 in on it all the, solid product. I have wood rot and had to replace wood but herculine side, no tear or worn. Since I want to do the inside, not sure if I want it black but might to because of.the toughness from experience.
Great job on the video! Thank you... I'm looking at this because I want to know if it holds up with the wood flex underneath... has there been any cracking or chipping in the year this was done? Please let me know... thanks again...
Thanks for the comment. I think the wood has been holding up just fine. There hasn't been any cracks or anything like that. I posted a 1 year update on this. This is the link to it: th-cam.com/video/OWSLkcQ0R_4/w-d-xo.html
Hey Mark, is this a 6x12 and was the one car kit enough? I have a 6x12 with a ramp I would also cover and I'm wondering if I should get 2.5 car garage kit.
Rustoleum does not recommend using this epoxy product on wooden substrates. It is to brittle to be put over soft wood and is prone to puncturing due to the lack of support.
a wire brush wipe down with asatone after wire brush and use rustolium rust reformer spray can I use it on my boat trailer works wonders And last for years
Thanks for the video. Very interesting. Two questions...#1 - are the chips sharp (pokey) on the feet after everything is dry? #2 - any idea if cracking might occur is this done over a insulated subfloor in the trailer (i.e. put down 1" insulation board, install 1/2" plywood over the insulation, then apply the epoxy to the plywood)....thoughts? Thanks again!
Peter I appreciate the comment. Once the chips have settled in after the drying process I didn’t find them to be rough at all. I did add a non slip additive to it so walking barefoot on it isn’t comfortable but with socks you can’t tell. I’m not sure about the cracking. I installed this during the summer time of this year and so far it’s held up well with no cracking so far. Hope that helps!
When applying it, the smell is very strong. But after 2 days of it drying I can’t smell a thing. Now It’s odorless as far as I can tell. Hope that helps.
Would it make a more durable floor if you put a second coat before throwing the chips I have a trailer on order and thinking about yawing they same stuff. For the rust problem use Rustoleum spray paint no sanding just spray it on I have a 24’ deck over steel deck trailer it has set out side for three years still looks great
@@Markofalltrades thanks for replying, it’s being a month now and we still so excited about roofing the floor, get many compliments and definitely very smart idea, thanks again.

This stuff really isn’t meant for wood as already said but i read of you apply a acrylic latex primer 1st it will bind much better defiantly curious to know how long this lasts for ya! Great video though i am doing my garage floor soon w a kit from spartan epoxies!
I like the video but have one question. How was the removal of the masking tape? I would think removing as you went (while the epoxy was wet) would be the thing to do. Did it remove ok after it cured over the tape?
I posted an update video: th-cam.com/video/OWSLkcQ0R_4/w-d-xo.html It's holding up great. No cracks so far. I use it for moving my motorcycle and when I have to move or help someone move.
Shouldn't you epoxy the exposed side??? So you spill a coke on the inside, big deal...it is the side of wood that faces the road that needs protection......and omg chips make it hard to slide boxed cargo....

Just bought myself an enclosed trailer, never thought about doing epoxy on the floor, I will definitely be doing that. Looks awesome! Subscribed!
Congrats on the new trailer! The epoxy floor will be a cool feature to add.
Question is how good. Did it work out and how did it last on the wood?
I wonder how has this hold up after 2 years.

how well has it held up?
Clean the rust off the best you can and use a rust converter paint
Use Coriseal for the rust. Converts the rust and primes in a single step.
I’ll have to look into that, thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks for the video does the chips add gripping to the floor?
I think with the amount I put down it helps but mostly for decoration and looks.
Leaf blower to broadcast the paint chips will work really well.

Curious how big your trailer is? I have a 7x14 and was thinking of doing this to it!

that garage floor epoxy gets hard. Do you notice any cracking on it after driving and it flexing/moving?
Just wait for it... it will bend and crack and once that starts there’s no going back!
Acetone...on the oil spots. Very wet rag of it. Hell just pour it on. Wipe dry while still wet. Repeat.
