- In this WizKids unboxing, I unbox both of the new Curse of Strahd mini sets: Legends of Barovia and Covens and Covenants. Each box contains 7 minis from the Curse of Strahd adventure. While the sculpts are nice and you know what you're getting, the price point seems a little high to me. What are your thoughts?

It's very strange that Wizards/WizKids left out, arguably the most important NPC, Ireena Kolyana. Esmerelda, might end up being used the most depending on the DM, but Ireena will be used no matter how you run the Curse of Strahd module. Some of these others will be used once and never again. Not a smart move to leave her out. However, I really like the Strahd mini.
Some of the minis look worth getting: Strahd, Baba Lysaga, the mongrelfolk, Van Richten, the Abbot, Pidlwick. The others look pretty rough for $40 a box. If I can buy them piecemeal and just buy others as unpainted Wizkids deepcuts and paint them myself I would be happier. I can see this being a good solution for someone that doesn't paint and just needs minis for the module.
Ezmeralda and Von Richten are available as unpainted figures. They're sold as 'Vampire Hunters'.

Yeah, omitting Ireena is... a choice, given how central to the story she is.
Although you could use the mongrelfolk as just a generic mini. I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be cyrus belleview.
You are correct. The mongrelfolk mini looks exactly like the picture they displayed for Cyrus in the CoS book.

Strahd, Ashardalon, & Drizzt. Fun games for 1 to 5 players.
Yeah they aren't amazing compared to other dungeon crawler games. But they arnt bad and their minis are decent
It's nice that they come out with minis for these, and some of these are great (like the hags), but they come out with too many minis you'd never need to put on a battle mat, and leave out too many unique and cool minis that you would. For instance, there was no vulture roc mini, no minis for half the shit in Amber Temple, and no minis for Wintersplinter. As a DM, the first minis I look for are set-piece battles. When you leave out some of the iconic creatures in the set because of size or lack of concept art, it really feels shitty. Of course as time goes on these creatures get minis as they appear elsewhere, but it just seems there's a huge market, even if they make those minis separate from blind boosters.
I think the price for the boxes are a bit iffy, but it is 7 guaranteed minis. I was actually waiting to for this video to see what you think, and I agree about it's usefulness outside of CoS. I still don't know if Imma pick these up, but I'm looking forward to running Cos again with my group so I'm highly considering it. Great video today, Ted. The mini display on the rotating platform was pretty nice !
I wouldn't use those Rose and Thorn models for running Death House. They look too sinister and inhuman, which would ruin the misdirection of them as innocent living children.
I don't use minis, but this is super cool. The weird boot part on the first one is a big issue for me though. Overall, super cool

Jump the gun and start your collection. There are many ways to get cheap miniatures.
I do recommend getting prepainted though. The unpainted sound like great value, but mini painting is its own expensive hobbie.

Starting from pathfinder pawns would be great.
I was able to acquire a Select Mini 3D printer for roughly $150, while that might seem expensive, you certainly get your value back ten fold. With 1 spool of filament (worth $20) I was able to make multiple miniatures for characters and monsters of various sizes. Even some homebrew monsters that aren't officially released like the False Hydra or the Coven Horror. I was even able to sell a couple a few miniatures such as an ancient Silver dragon, a Barlgura, a Rhemoraz, and a couple character minis making roughly 60$ now. So I've gotten almost 100 minis, possibly a (if 13 minis like the ones in this video are $40. But that's not even including gargantuan minis which can be $30 on their own) $310 for $80, and the value engine only keeps going. I heavily encourage it, and looking up printer settings online to get good quality prints.
Get a lot on eBay - best way to get a bunch all at once.

I really wish this had been available when we played through the adventure last year! I would highly consider purchasing the package with Strahd and the heroes in it due to the fact that the Npc's often joined the party and having Mini is for them makes things much much easier!
BTW - I am positive that the mongrel folk miniature was Cyrus the mongrel folk inside castle raven loft itself. He is yet another potential Npc that could join the group for a little while. Great to see a miniture of him!
I dont see the point of adding minis for characters such as rose and thorn, as they dont really see much, if any combat. A mini for ireena and maybe ismark wouldve been much smarter. Maybe also godfrey

I wish they would just sell unpainted minis with better sculpts
Hey Nerd Immersion, I've noticed on a few recent videos there are odd pauses in the video. It could be an editing issue or some exporting issue you may want to look at fixing for future videos. (See 1:30)
Yeah I usually cut most of them out, but this one was too hard to remove. I'm not sure whats been going on. Its either a recent shift to my editing software, the integration of the slr camera for close ups or an older version of obs

Mongrel folk mini is Strahd's servant Cyrus in Castle ravenloft.
Ophalia Wormwiggle is one of morgantha's "daughters" from the bonegrinder.
Some of the mini's are pretty Nice, some are pretty shit. All in all a very mixed bag.
Van Ricten has a new sculpt compared to the one in Nolzurs, though the Esmerelda one is the same as from there it looks

It's weird because some of them look decent, and then some are not. This is why I paint my own stuff. But even some of the sculpts are kinda lame.

How come small TH-camrs (some of them not even d and d specific) have received copies of Icewind dale: rime of the frost maiden and a ton of other goodies but Ted hasn't received anything? I'm not trying to start some kick off I'm just surprised since as far as Ted has meantioned he hasn't got any of this stuff, if he hasn't it's a bit unfair

wiz kids minis are just so "meh" every now and then they have a great looking mini but there are so many straight goofy looking sculpts that I have a hard time justifying it. The kids, strahd, and the hag all looked great. But everything else was passable or worse.
All of those deserve a new paint job. ugh

I fully understand that the Icons of the Realm series of miniatures isn't for me, but dear god, as someone who likes painting miniatures, most of these are godawful. The sculpts are all so static and for the most part, don't have detail that works at their scale.
This is the third time they've done Rictavio/Ezmerelda miniatures. The Gale Force Nine pair was overpriced, but they were characterful and properly sculpted miniatures. They did them again as "Vampire Hunters" for Nolzur's, which are fine if suffering a little from Nolzur's over-detailed 3D sculpt that doesn't translate to a real physical figure. These two are easily the worst sculpts out of the three.
The Vasilka model has some nice texture. The Rose is okay, but dear god, everyone who plays Death House always says "don't show your players the Rose and Thorn art, because they're obviously evil creepy children", so what are these two miniatures of non-combatant ghost children that feature in one scene where they POSSESS YOUR PLAYERS actually FOR? Surely not for actually playing D&D? Including Pidlwick, who shows up in one room of Castle Ravenloft, would have made sense... if they'd done a set for all of the possible allies for the party to encounter. Though I'm sure that would've been spoiler-y.
I know not everyone is a mini painter, so pre-painted models have a point, but even then, why THESE characters? Out of the most NPC-rich campaign, why THESE?
I love when your videos are 10-15 minutes and not 40+ sorry (they’re all great but more bitesize means I can find the time to watch!)
