    I'm finishing up my last year studying Media and Communication. The UK seems to absolutely fucking hate the subject constantly claiming it as useless but nothing I've learned has ever felt useless. It just feels disheartening. Makes me more anxious about if I am going to find work. I know you're in Canada but this is comforting

      Is it okay if I ask, did you do much practical work in your degree or was it mostly theory? I kind of struggle to differentiate Media and Communications from something like Media Production or Media Studies

      I kinda wanted to ask how studying media and mass communication isin UK. Please do help me out if possible, I'm trying to decide which country is good for studying it

      @@headofvengarl8893 I did two years at college and two years in uni. In college it was a balance of practical and theory. There were units where it was only theory but in the case with my course we had a huge self guided project at the end of each year where you could essentially do anything. Make a short film, music video, do an event, make a magazine/website. I did two of those throughout the two years. In university however, I felt it was scarcely practical but my entire university experience was also throughout the pandemic. I'm sad to say I'm not currently using my degree but still looking to.

      @@ary_xaa Its hard to say. The problem with studying it in the UK is for example you wanted to be a journalist. Most companies would prefer you study english since media isn't held in high regard here. My courses were subject to hefty budget cuts. I think at one time it probably was a good place to study with the whole Cool Britannia thing back in the 90s/2000s but we've had a bit of a drought in recent times since our government doesn't value it the way it once did. I studied in Glasgow so opportunities are not great up here but if you went for somewhere down south where a lot of our publishers are you'd probably find good opportunities to compliment your course when you get to the point of looking for work experience. All in all it depends where you study and be sure to network while the opportunities are there. I can say I'm not using my degree right now but I still have hopes I will so you gotta stay determined

      @rorothedragonshroomie2760 thank you for explaining. That makes sense, that sounds a bit similar to what I did in college, although I did Media Production. We had to make media projects but also write about them. That's a shame that the pandemic affected your experience, and a shame that you're not currently using your degree but hopefully you will in the future

    Taking a gap year before college to figure out exactly what I want to do. When I found out what Media Studies entailed, I got really excited.
    With further research, your video confirmed that this is definitely the Major I am interested in and a career I would love to build.
    Thank you so much! Keep making great content!!

    what a relevant intro - the media is everywhere and is everything around us, so it is a more than useful degree. I have a module within my english degree and it is all about media linguistics, super interesting. I wish you the best in your studies :)

    New Media is huge now. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok is huge in the U.S.A. So that's a focus I am going to be studying in my BA Communications.

      i think it depends on what your interests are. there is cross over in both topics and you can always focus your research in one topic back to the other. my advice is that if you think you are a creative person to do comm studies and if you think of yourself as more of a philosopher do politics

    Very well done, Cheyenne!
    Are you a "media studies" case study?
    Are your videos sort of media text?
    What is not "media studies" if we assume that all we communicate is mediated via a "medium"?
    Thank you!

    Very clear content I have been debating between global media and culture, digital media and literature media and culture...I am interested in how the language affects the knowledge and also more inclined towards art. I'm a Teacher and want to get out of the classroom

    • @itscheyennecassidy
      @itscheyennecassidy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      writing skills! expect lots of essays. the readings are really dense and were written a while ago so you have to be able to be the type of person that can focus on something thats not easy to grasp right off the bat.

    please cheyenne i wanted to know if the uni gives you practical hard skills to create the media you were intrested in. Do they teach you how to film, edit videos for social media and stuffs like that? thank you so much ❤

    • @itscheyennecassidy
      @itscheyennecassidy  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, thanks for the questions. Uni didn’t teach me practical skills. Most of classes I took on film assumed I knew how to edit videos from the jump. Everything you need to know practically to be a content creator you can learn on TH-cam for free!
