The first 3 Max albums have some of the finest rock writing, lyrics and performances you'll ever hear. A Max concert was all the excuse I needed to over-indulge in everything and anything and party HARD to these boys live. What a fine bunch of Canadian legends. Rock On Max Webster.
Thank you Speedy for filming this, and a HUGE thank you to all who saved and transferred these film reels! So many audio/video lost due to people just throwing out these great recordings due to friends or family members that really don't know what they got, or worse, don't care and just want to get rid of these collections.
I saw this tour near Chicago in Joliet Illinois, Max Webster backed up Cheap Trick at the Rialto theater on the Budokahn tour. I knew very little about Max Webster at that time, but I liked Max Webster better than Cheap Trick!
Any guess on the date and venue on this show??? I think more then likely its in Ontario. Please any information on this shows date would be very welcomed
Well, I saw them at my school Agincourt Collegiate and also Stephen Leacock Collegiate at this time and the stage is definitely not Leacock's. Still, hard to confirm with the lack of panning but it sure resembles Agincourt's. Could have been in Sept as we were in school at the time. I was trying to see if I recognized any of the fans at the stage but again too quick of panning. I remember the 'apron' dress outfit, lol. Hard to believe after their second album, some of which they're playing here, they were still doing high school's. Only in Canada, eh! Either way, thanks for the memory as this was my first live concert which spurred me to learn guitar and have been playing ever since.
If my memory is correct, I first saw them at Thornlea Secondary School in '75 or '76, then at the CNE in '78 when they opened for Brand X and Genesis, and then back at Thornlea again in either the fall of '78 or winter/spring of '79. We used to see Kim driving the band van going to and from The Music Shoppe on Yonge Street in Thornhill every once in a while. Great times!
@@ShakingTwoTrees2012 I was at the Grandstand show with Genesis. Window pane was in attendance and those costumes Genesis wore really, uh, stood out. Very good times indeed. I also had New Year's tickets at the Gardens for Max Webster in '80? Floors. I was at a work party with a girl and she didn't want to go. I missed the show. I still have the unused tickets. Should have went to the show and ditched the girl lol. They should have been much bigger. Canadian bands have always suffered because of crap music industry pinheads and managers. At least we have these superb vids popping up. Keep 'em coming, Speedy,

I used to see Max opening for Rush, and thought Max was the better band at the time. Max had sort of a Zappa vibe that I found appealing.
