    My R56 have an opposite problem, the idle is rough when the car is cold, but when the engine heats up it´s fine and running normally.

      Wish I could help but never had that issue.

      Hi, same for me here, erratic idling when cold but absolutely fine when warm. Did you find a solution?

    • @ghb7860
      @ghb7860 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Me too. My fault does show P0013 and sometimes I get misfires. The car hesitates on acceleration as well as gear changes.
      Edit: I've diagnosed the fault and found the my exhaust VVT Solenoid was completely dead. Ordering the new part and will update when I test the car thereafter
      I've now installed the new VVT and the car runs much better, no hesitation at all, more power and starts better. I've got new fault codes now so I'm suspecting my other vvt solenoid is troubling.

      @@Tectonicz I can give you one advice, service your Mini, new oil, new filter and new sparkplugs. That helped a lot of my Mini with the rough idle, also I switched to Total Quartz oil and that reduced the oil consumption a bit. Also I have never seen so sooty sparkplugs what my Mini had.

    You changed the exhaust solenoid. The inlet which is the one at the back would cause the issue

    I replaced my solenoids and plugs and coils about 2 months ago and um now have the same issues again. I get codes 2c58 2d55 and 2D5A.
    Before the ruff idle happened I notice white smoke from the tailpipe after a long idle, im thinking it's could be value seals? Do you know if this could cause my solenoids and plugs to be dirty?

    The one that adjust the chain tension is on the rear right? I changed ,my chain and tensioner not that long ago but now it's slapping. Apparently the old ones were too short so i thought either i got sold an old style one or i have one other issue. I can smell a bit of fuel in my oil. It's been a while the thermostat has been stuck open so the cur runs v cold. I was thinking that perhaps running cols forced fuel into the oil by running too rich. Then, perhaps the chain tensioner no longer wanted to work correctly if the oil became too thin? Any ideas?

      I’ve been working since I was 12 years old. Bought my first car 95 Ford Mustang GT with a deposit from tip money working as a waiter. Went to college and opened several businesses over the years. Currently own a restaurant and a hair salon, and do these TH-cam videos which also supplement my car habit 😆 Mayve I should do a video on this if I get enough likes?

    Do not use after market parts, especially Dorman, to replace a VANOS solenoid. When it fails it can take your engine with it. When you replace these solenoids it's best to replace both of them. Did you check for a code? I'm just wondering why you changed the exhaust solenoid and not the inlet one which would have been more likely to be causing a stall. Another cause of rough idle and stalling on these engines is the engine temperature sensor which can fail and not throw a code. Let the car sit overnight and without starting the car look at the live data from the sensor, if it's bad it'll show a high temperature even when cold

    I am trying to identify a specific part in my Mini’s engine. It’s a silver circular part, to the left of the coolant expansion tank but attached to the same part the engine oil filler neck is on. Aside from dying on me precisely as you explained above, there’s a loud racket coming from that piece. My Mini has 134k and is a 2007 but I love my car and hope I can keep it a while longer. Thanks for posting this video and any advice you can help with.

      No, I drove that car for over a year before I sold it. Never had any issues after that. I replaced all fluids, spark plugs, brake sensors. Was pretty solid after all the maintenance. I see the person I sold it to every once in a while. Still running strong.

    Is there only 1 VVT solenoid on this engine or 1 in the front and 1 in the back? I have seen other videos where they take off the air filter box and rubber pipes beside the engine to get to a VVT solenoid on the back located under the air filter box where you can hardly see it. I have the exact engine you have in this video.

    Which one is the intake and outtake solenoid please?

    • @OmarsGarage
      @OmarsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure which is which. I would start by disconnecting one of the connectors and seeing if you get a fault pertaining to that solenoid. They are also interchangeable so you can install on into the front which is easier to get to. If it resolves the issue then you are done, if not you can try replacing the one on the rear. The exhaust is on the front of the car so my guess would be that that one is the outtake.

      Intake at the rear (inlet manifold). Exhaust at the front (exhaust manifold)
