  • I opened up my eSun Filament vacuum bags after 2 months of storage in my (hot & humid) garage. The PLA printed just fine, but the desiccant packets had absorbed liquid. (I think most of the water they absorbed came from the filament inside the bag.....)
So I dried them out and re-packaged the filament using my Anova handheld battery powered vacuum pump, plus a control bag with only a desiccant packet.

Anova battery powered handheld vacuum pump for $41

    4 pack Desiccant boxes $10

(If you use these, draw a bead of super glue along the seams to keep them from breaking open if you were to accidentally drop them on the floor and spill beads all over the place....ask me how I know...)
Or go with the bulk sized "orange indicating" rechargeable desiccant beads for $20

I agree that it is the desiccant pulling water out of you filament.

We use a dessicator at work for our pads for testing. We bake the pads in an oven at 105 celsius. Sometimes the dessicant needs to be re-baked because it will change color like yours did. So we throw it in the oven. Maybe try 105 celsius in the oven instead of microwave.

Yes, that will also heat them up enough to drive the water out.

Maybe you could try with a brand new spool? Or a dehydrated spool (throw it in the oven at 50°C for 24h)?

Dish towel, to make it easy to rotate/flip the desiccant packs even when they are steaming hot.

So far I've only had problems with two of the 10, and I'm pretty sure at least one of those is traced back to a sharp end of filament that I had outside the spool.

PLA? PLA is not any issue :D

With humidity and heat, PLA is always the issue...... th-cam.com/video/EaH2OyPg4nA/w-d-xo.html

It is if you keep your spools for months or years
