    Great way to store filament for sure to prevent further moisture absorption. Some folks think desiccant will dry their filament, but it will not. However, it will help prevent further moisture absorption from happening when stored correctly! Fortunately, I live in a nice dry environment where I can keep PLA (and for the most part ABS) open on my shelf. This is great storage solution for those who live in humid environments!

    Great information. 👍🏻 Seems like a lot of people currently is getting into 3D printing, myself included, and these practical tips are great. In hindsight the information may seem logical, but might not be the first thought. 😊

      @@3DRundown Definitely a lot to learn. Today I tried to print 2 different prints a few times, and all 5 to 6 attempts failed…. Last attempt I tried to print the desicant holders, and got a spaghetti notice. When I got back to the printer, I found the lids (printed 2 of the holders) fairly ok I guess, but there was a thick string from one lid to the bottom of the one desicant holder, almost like a whole layer being dragged from one print piece to the other, and the desicant holder with the string on had come loose from the bed. I guess maybe it was pulled off when the string maybe followed the print head. So tomorrow I will follow some cleaning tutorials and see if maybe I have a partial clog. Build plate was cleaned between prints, and nozzle / print bed were on the right temps. So nozzle issue maybe, or might do another self test and calibration. Will likely do this anyway after the cleaning / maintenance steps… All was mostly printing with success up until now. Mostly as in printing things like a dog and cat figures with relatively thin and/or tall legs, and trying to minimize support, did not bring much success… :) Well even one printed at 40 % scale (was 10 - 15 cm at 100 % scale), with standard support etc. one of the back legs were not correctly printed / aligned with the upper part of the print.

    Excellent. I have the exact setup, but with the larger totes of the same brand and design. I can maintain 10% relative humidity.

    found out there are rechargeable & reusable versions of damprid, called 'Eva-dry', it's got those pellets in it and when it gets wet (has an indicator) you plug the thing into the wall and it dries itself for re-use.

      Hi Rod. I'm trying.... Creality backed out last min due to "Upgraded Quality Control for a better user Experience". Whatever that means..... So, I wait. I wish I had ordered one, but, they told me I was getting one, so I got another P1P, then.... They didn't send me one, so, I am kinda screwed as I can't afford to buy one. I wait.....

    Great video - I just purchased a 3D printer and about 10 spools of Bambu PLA basic. So far I have been trying to put them back in the baggies that the spools were shipped in. I'm thinking of building a dry box. Do you store the spools in their plastic bags, or is that unnecessary for longer term storage in the dry box?

    • @3DRundown
      @3DRundown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is exactly how I personally store my spools. Just like this. On Muscle Wracks. 30+ open Spools on any given day.

    • @3DRundown
      @3DRundown  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Store it was low as you can get it. A dry box won't dry it, it will keep it dry. A dehydrator will dry it. 10-15%ish

    Can you use the filament dryer to fry the desiccant packs?

    • @3DRundown
      @3DRundown  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally. It's just a small dehydrator. A small food dehydrator would work even better, as it would hold more, and have a fan, and all that, but, they would work. However, the S1, has no real place to put them, as it has 360' heating elements. The EIBOS would be the better option, as the heating element is enclosed in the center

      I have the robots and the slot for the desiccant will dry the desiccant as it also drys the filament. I was testing this and it works well.

    So during the printing itself you take the spool out of the dry box, use it, and then put it right back in? The amount of moisture it absorbs while printing isn't significant?

    • @3DRundown
      @3DRundown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends. I don't lose sleep over it, but, the more humid the season is, or your particular space, the more you should be pro-active about it. Generally, I avoid having a spool parked on my machines unless I'm using it. Do my print, and pop it back in the box. If I'm gonna use that color again shortly, I'll leave it be. In the Summer, when it's super humid, Unless the machine has an A/C running around the clock, I am extra disciplined about it. In my endless prints and spools, I've had problems with Moisture only a hand full of times, but it does indeed happen. I'll get random defects, stringing, and most commonly: Filament snapping. That's when I know I've been too lazy, and into the Filament Dehydrator it goes.

      I suspect this is why the High flow Kit went MIA. I am currently trying to sell my S1, as I have never gotten a proper ABL mesh on it, but, I have an S1+. I assume this would work on that. Interesting
