The Blue Man Group is probably the most successful example of “committing to the bit” ever. Part of me is shocked their gimmick hasn’t run dry, but then I think how they’re all talented musicians just messing around and think they’re genius for it
This was such a joy. I got the sense from it that the intro was telling the truth: The Blue Man Group saw what Drumeo was doing, and wanted to give it some love. Hearing their philosophy described, I can see how this "hears for the first time" falls right in line with their spirit of music. This wasn't a normal entry in the series; it was a love letter to Drumeo from BMG. And, you know, good publicity, too. That doesn't hurt ;) Glad you had fun with it.
Loving the content! At 14:03 when you're hunting for a good frame to show the mallets, you can pause the video and use the "," and "." keys to skip backward and forward frame by frame. Might help when you're trying to figure out the kit too!
The top/pinned comment is from the blue man group talking about how they put it together in a day - overall still definitely in the spirit of the usual format I would say!
I watched two live performances of TBMG and good lord, its chaotic. But there is comfort in the chaos. There is so much going on but its so entertaining.
A small thing that everyone seems to miss is Brandon saying "Final take?" right before this. Which would imply they tried this routine a couple times before this take. haha
I'm not sure that this isn't rehearsed, but this is cool to reintroduce the blueman to the world.... I for one didn't know who they were, but after that, I just have to assume that they are iconic.... Great content by the way....
They've been around for a really long time but I guess gimmicky bands don't really make a splash. They're also a much larger group who perform internationally I believe so these three aren't the main trio (maybe?) nor the originals. It's been a long time since they've even crossed my mind so seeing them doing something so goofy is refreshing.
To your comment about nailing the harmonies, i can say as an amateur orchestral performer (violinist and pianist) that with enough time, you can catch harmonic progressions pretty quickly in kany songs! Given the amount of experience BMG has, i wouldnt put it past them to be able to pick up on it very quickly!
@@coversandcommentary and hey, my ability to keep rhythm is passable but definitely nowhere on the level of all you drummers. yea with how long and how many shows bmg has done over the years and how creative they are its not surprising they would be able to pick up and craft something as quick as they did
I mean it seemed at least in the early part they were locked in on something similar to the Pachelbel's Canon progression, so yeah I can see them being totally in their wheelhouse even without much rehearsal.
The blue men are such amazing performers its very easy to forget they are just actually 3 dudes. I dont think any of them are even bald. They definitely have heard the song before, hence the perfect lock in on that goofy ass set, but they are performers he had to get back into character. They didnt just cover the song, they made an entire performance. I forgot about The Blue Man Group until this Drumeo video reminded me. Seeing them live is going on my bucket list
Nah, it started as just three guys. There’s now a whole bunch of them all around the world, but they only accept applicants of a certain height/weight to fit the look they’re known for
When he's playing the huge PVC pipe sliders that rhythm there sounds like he's throwing in some triplets. The same kind of "gallop triplet" feel that Metallica or Iron Maiden packed into their early material. That's what it sounds like to me anyway. That being said... Holy Cr@p! That was amazing!
I don't listen to the BMG but I know of them. I just got to say that this rendition got me so emotional and I don't know why. That's going into the playlist, for sure.
Found your channel like a week and a half ago from your Chad Smith Drumeo video. Seen this video not too long after finding your channel, & been wondering if you was gonna react to it
People seem pretty mixed on this one, honestly, I'm a huge MCR fan and I really enjoyed their take. But I also grew up knowing the blue man group shtick, so quite honestly this was very entertaining having the 2 worlds collide. It would be interesting to know how long they had, I agree. I kinda wish they said because honestly even if they didn't get it on the first listen, I was still very entertained and it was different than their other videos but still very fun.
@@krystennawomack9724 yes. Lengthening the tube lowers the tone. The "human's" kit pretty much drowns out the tubes, but with a really good headset, you could hear it fairly well. They harmonize with the tubes pretty accurately.
It feels like they cut out the usual "here's what the intermediate takes looked like" montage in favor of the Blue Man Group schtick. Also, I'll nag you again, you should listen to Ulysses Jones' jazz band covering Nirvana! th-cam.com/video/3pYHCGYJbw0/w-d-xo.html

yeah this is definitely scripted, they're a character for entertainment purposes, they need concept. the tittle didn't even say "for the first time". BUT, this is a great entertainment, great content, they did really good job and i love it.

The AirPod Max headphones actually have a surprisingly flat EQ and I use them for the really good audio pass through because it’s easier than setting up monitoring for each video.
Scripted or not, the amount of effort and talent it takes to do that is insane!!! Always love Blue Man Groups' interpretation of music!
I don’t think their drummer get enough credit. He was crushing it

No lie. I now want to go see a real BMG show. It can only get better, right? lol

and then i saw the Josh from Coheed and Cambria
Love all your breakdowns. On a side note. The comma and period buttons let you go frame by frame on TH-cam. Great for finding the frame you want .

I think everyone suspended their disbelief for this one. It's clearly not the first time they've heard this one.

Yeah, a decent improviser can do it on the fly. Rick Beato has a bunch of videos where he'll start playing ahead of the music on the first listen.

Nope. Each blue man can only preform one time before they must return to their home planet and be replaced. I thought of this factually

Look up johnathon moffets drumeo video he locks in at the beginning its really good
While some of the blue men might know the song, their music director probably hasn't...
That guy that started alone played the song at first but then played bad on purpose to not show that he already knows.
Are they moving that tub to control the sound? Like: making the drums have notes. I can't explain it. Towards the end. They have 2 tubs.
