- Our last film of the year follows three EF team riders on their progress at the first ever Life Time Grand Prix series. Consisting of six races spread out across the US, this was an altogether new kind of competition.
As the opportunity for road racing in America has waned somewhat in previous years, a new form has emerged. Off-road racing has announced itself onto the scene, with races popping up all over the country. The Life Time Grand Prix series is the first of its kind, this year consisting of three gravel and three MTB races, as well as an equal split of places and prize money for men and women.
EF Education-Easypost riders Alex Howes and Lachlan Morton, and EF Education-TIBCO-SVB rider Emily Newsom all lined up as part of their alternative calendar, where lines between the WorldTour and off-road racing are becoming increasingly blurred. With varying approaches to racing and life commitments, this film is an ode to our original Gone Racing films, but with a look to the future of the sport. We send off Alex and Emily whilst documenting the unpredictable trials and unforeseen triumphs of riding this uncharted territory.

I hope this series isn't done. It's been such an insightful view on how this sport is changing and evolving through the lens of some its most interesting and charismatic athletes.
Hard luck on some of those races, but such a great film. EF and Rapha need to keep Lachlan doing these events and filming the process. He's so much fun to watch.

@@christravelsbytaco5771 I can understand it. The crit race is fun for riders and spectators because of the high-octane breakaways and the likes. But the gravel/endurance races are tedious to race and hard to watch, riders just peel off until there's only 1 or 2 riders left with a 4-hour gap. At some point it's just miserable.

Thanks for this folks! Seems Lachlan had a lot of plain bad luck last season in the LTGP. I hope his solo CT effort made up for at least some of that, it is an impressive accomplishment.

I just want to send the whole crew, directors, supporters, graphic designers and of course the athletes a lot of love & admiration from Germany. In May I got a thrombosis in my shoulder for no apparent reason and was pretty devastated. I discovered this series through forced time off the bike, but was able to slowly claw my way back into full training. Am now fully back to shredding centuries with efforts and beating records on climbs in Switzerland. You guys were a huge support throughout the year. Beautiful shots and great editing but feel cheated if the end, it just felt like it abruptly stopped and I’m left wondering the purpose of the video. What was the conclusion and what does the future look like for these riders?
somehow it makes me, joe-blow-slow-bike-rider, feel like i have this connection to these elite athletes. how is that possible? many thanks for the inspiration and just....humility and honesty expressed by emily, lachlan, and alex.

Really nice upload 😎, a question for Lachy, as it was only him shown running, but if Emily or Alex also run , do they find running makes their cycling easier? I'm only an average "Joe" but it has always benefited me. Thanks in advance if guys. 👍
I'm going to provide a counterpoint to all of the lavish praise in the comments.
One reason cycling is dying is that there are not enough aspirational figures in the sport. An "aw shucks," self-deprecating dorkiness permeates the culture. The men at the forefront of the sport do not exactly embody the hard-nosed, badass masculinity like an Armstrong did, or to compare to other sports, a Lebron or Ronaldo or Tom Brady. These cyclists would get eaten by those other sportsmen. And for better or worse, LA back in the day wouldn't... his vibe was totally different, and an entire generation was attracted to that.
Alex and Lachlan are super chill, likeable guys. But kids watching this are not going to leave thinking "wow, cycling is super badass!" like they feel after watching a Nike commercial about myriad other sports. It's too bad because cycling is a pretty badass sport.
