    Good review, buddy. Have to say I bought a 3k series miravel last week for a rod I built for my wife, and I'm taking it back this week. My vanfords and old ci4s are just better . The miravel had a few issues 1) won't close the bail while cranking (if it's oriented wrong , 2) started making a clicking sound ,3) gets really hard to crank 4) locked up . I managed to get it freed up and spinning again but the problems made me park it after 20 minutes, I was pre fishing a tournament so I waited untill i got back home , oiled it seems to be working OK now but I'm not taking any chances my vanfords and ci4+s never have any issues. Imo, get a vanford, don't deal with the headaches of this reel it has a ci4+ body, and that's the end of the similarities. I may just have just got a bad one, but if you own vanfords or ci4s, you probably won't be happy.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Mark, none of the spinning reels are designed to flip the bail in all honesty. They are designed to be manually flipped which is the way I always to it. They just happen to trip if in the right spot. The Miravel would never, ever be as good as a Vanford or previous gen Ci4+ because of several tech features that are not on par like SARB bearings, Micro Module gear, one piece bail arm, X protect and others.

      The Ultegra is definitely more refined but doesn't have the low start up inertia that Miravel boasts being a core solid reel. Both are great choices but I suspect more longevity will come from Ultegra with its SARB bearings if you fish harsh environments.

    Great breakdown. Let me add to the decision making process. If you wanted to jerk bait fish spinning, with the Ronin in mind, would you stick with Vanford, or would you consider crazy $ and look at Twin Power, Exsense or even crazier $ Stella?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors

      Twin Power is a great reel and has a ton of power. For jerkbaiting, especially if you use braid to fluoro, I would stick with a Coresolid reel so I would opt for Stradic or Twin Power

    Just as others have mentioned, it does need a dab of oil before you use it th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e - put a few drops in through the convenient screw cap and you are good to go! I have fished several weeks with a couple of these, and I will be getting more in the future. I put these against my Abu Garcia Pro Max reel, and they actually perform a bit better than the Abu with some of my lighter cranks, and definitely just as good with the rest of my lures. My Abu is a bit more low profile and fits my hand better, but these are definitely not bad at all. You can almost get 3 of these for the price of my Pro Max. My only complaint is the thumb bar sits pretty high compared to my traditional profile Abu. Bring that thumb bar down a little and I’m sold on these all day long.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's a few big upgrades in the Ultegra over the Miravel, S-ARB Bearings, One Piece Bail arm, Long Stroke Spool (taller spool for better management fo the line) plus the micro module II gear. @@JPDeRoseOutdoors Thanks! I went bought one soon after. I have to say the weight and built is impressive. But I have noticed the miravel turns into a salt grinder once the lure is bigger than 25 grams with diving lip and on fast retrieve (pencil no problemo - its still no twin power). No issues with big kings so far as long as the rod is good and the line has a titanium wire, pulling 30 ish pound surf fish on 33lb with not much consideration to the braid integrity 😀 and never pulling line more than 100-150m.

I do long cast 100 yards and the vanford is weak when handling the shock whenever i cast 100+ yards the vanford wiggles and i notice some parts of vanford are made out of plastic. Both basically spec out the same except for the material of the rotor making the Miravel a lighter reel with lower start up inertia. The only downside for me is if you fish Saltwater, not having Sealed bearings can shorten the lifespan of the reel if not properly maintained. That is the biggest difference between Nasci / Miravel and going up one to Ultegra. Anti rust bearings vs sealed anti rust bearings

    I recently just bought the Miravel based on this report and the recommendation of a Scheels Salesman. Not pleased, Why. when I went to crank the retreive on a slow pace the spool locked up and I could not power through it nor could I back it up without screwing the handle loose, If I start the retieve with power and speed it worked but I felt it was clunky. I remember my old Shimano, slow, fast or reverse direction it performed without fail.

    For a $130 you don’t get a one piece bail wire? That is a pass for me. You can get that feature on the PFlueger President at $60 lol. Shimano is a waste of money. You can buy Quantum, Lew’s and PFlueger and get better reels for less. I mean just look at the Lew’s Mach II. You get 10 shielded bearings, aluminum frame, forged aluminum gears, a one piece, think bail wire, a nicer knob it looks nicer and the 3000 size comes in at around 8oz. So it’s not too heavy. Shimano and Diawa both don’t offer that until you by their $80 plus reels. I don’t get where this narrative came from that Shimano and Diawa are so much better. They aren’t, I have had more Shimano reels break on me than any other brand. They just suck. I would rather buy Quantum, Okuma, Lew’s and PFlueger anyway. Again, Diawa has some good stuff.
