I think it is always worth bringing up that Dobyns offers military a 30% off discount on any rod. This should be mentioned in any gear video imo. You can get a Champion XP series rod for $215 or a Fury rod for less than $100. That's insane.
It's also worth noting dobyns hassle free replacements and great warranty department. Customer service at dobyns is top notch and shipping straight from factory for me has been flawless so far
Its also worth noting that their rods are mostly great except for the god-awful hook-loops 😂😂😂 Seriously, i dont know what they're thinking with those. But ive got 8 dobyns rods and like em all.
Thank you Tim and Matt for the time and effort you've put into the spring buyers guide. We appreciate the time you spend on the water trying out everything related to the sport to save us money when buying items you've shown.
After selling my boat and spending a couple years getting my pilot’s license, I bought a Titan X Kayak this week and started watching your videos again. Man, I thought flying was expensive but yesterday, in the “budget” video I spent $650 in a flash! I guess my 2 years sober from TacticalBassin influenced expenses at Tackle Warehouse are over!
I got that 7'11" EXH Expride from your recommendation years ago and it's been the most awesome punch rod I've ever used. I have also found it makes an EXCELLENT soft weedless swimbait rod for baits up to nearly 3 ounces. Caught about 10 on it today with a weedless 68 hudd and didn't lose a single fish...the power, backbone, and sensitivity of that rod is like a $600 dollar rod. Kudos on the gear reviews!
1000% on the 7’2 ML from Shimano. I have the Zodias in that action and it’s also my favorite for throwing 3” underspins. I would never have considered it without you mentioning it in prior vids 🙏
Ya know guys …. When you wake up to a 1 ft snowstorm on March 23rd … doesn’t get much better than a new upload on a Saturday 👍👌🤌🏼…. Let the learn grind ride on can’t wait to see what’s next !
Gotta say I am BLOWN away by the SLX MGL 70. Casting distance is nuts and SO easy to dial in. And I’ve got the “old” one on sale for $99! Can’t wait to pick up the new one.
@@CRlMSONz American Legacy Fishing Xmas sale had the older SLX for $99. Gues they knew the update for 2024 was coming and wanted to clear out their stock of the old ones.
Agree 100% on the Shimano Expride B 7'2" ML casting rod! I use this rod for more stuff every time I go fishing, it is my best rod for smaller topwater baits and jerkbaits. I catch myself using this more and more with the 110 jerkbaits, over my Shimano Expride B 6'10" M casting rod. It is my number #1 setup with the Megabass 110 jr's! It fishes so much heaver than its rating, but at very light package with the Shimano Metanium, just order a second one!
I have one of the IMX Pro spinning rods in 7’6” and it is absolutely incredible at how sensitive it is and how well it fights and handles fish. Nothing but great and amazing in the hands and well worth the money to buy, and would definitely love another in a casting model.
I just ordered A St Croix Bass X from their online store. $60 for a $135 rod. 7'4"heavy for frogging and flipping. I'm going to pair it with a Shimano slx xt 8.1 gear ratio. Good quality for a budget price.
I miss All Star rods, only have one left from 1994 when I bought in new for crank baits and spinners baits which is labeled as such, (Glass) and people try to buy it from me all the time.
I started with a zodias medium spinning rod couple years ago. It is a great rod but I broke it a while ago, barley pulling on a snag. So last year I upgraded to Expride B. I have 2 Expride B rods now. Their amazing! I have 6" 10" med-heavy heavy bait caster with a curado 150 mgl. The I have a 7' light spinning with a vanford 2500. The 7' light spinning rod is more of a med-light. I love both of those combos! For my big swimbait rods. I have a 7' 8" Diawa Tatula Mod-fast rated up to 6oz, paired with a Lexa 300. It has been a good do all big swimbait combo. For big soft baits & glides.
Yeah boys! Those exprides are the deal, mind blowing sensitive I can feel a tick on slack line on that jerk bait rod I don’t leave home with out it…. And I have rods that are as good as money can buy I love this rod thanks for the tip off on that rod my friends!!
TB used to rave about Dobyn's years ago. There's a reason why they don't anymore. Dobyn's aren't that good other than the hassle free life time warranty. I'll take quality over warranty any day.
Well what would you rather have a Shimano Expride or a Dobyns Champ rod? I'm choosing the Expride. The limited lifetime warranty is what makes Dobyns competitive. Their rods are heavier and not as sensitive. G Loomis offers a limited lifetime warranty and starting with the IMX line they're pretty sensitive. A Shimano Zodias is cheaper and more sensitive than a Dobyns Champ.
@@fongxiong1 I really like Dobyns for swimbaits, jerkbaits, and crankbait rods. I have a spinning Sierra Trout rod that I really like too. It's actually my fav UL rod at the moment. The reality is that without that limited lifetime warranty they wouldn't sell as many rods. I have some Shimano rods that are over a decade old. The 1 year warranty basically covers any manufacture defects, which will show themselves within that first year. It really is a no brainer IMO. Dobyns does make the best BFS rods in the American market too. The Shimano BFS rods are more power BFS whereas Dobyns BFS rods can cast down to 1/16 oz.
I’ve mentioned this rod in a few of these videos, the Abu Garcia Fantasista rods are legit. I moved away from my exprides and now throw these. 7’3 MH is an amazing all around rod.
St. Croix is pretty good for putting together technique specific rods within a series of rods for other species of fish as well. I fish mostly for walleye and really like my fenwick rods but for the few rods I don't find through fenwick I know St. Croix will have.
I have a little bit of budget and a little bit of high end of many different brands but the bread and butter of my combos are Daiwa Tatula rods and Daiwa Tatula 100 reels; for the price they are awesome. If I wasn’t such a Daiwa guy the bulk of my arsenal would be Shimano Zodias paired with SLX or Curado reels. It’s a great time to be a bass fisherman, there are great rod and reel combos at all price points. I love all of your videos, you guys are hands down the best in the business.
Was cool to see you guys talk about the procyon! i asked if you guys had ever used it in last years buyers guide cool to see it make this one! that and the vanford are my two favorite spinning reels!
Been following you gents a while now and absolutely love your channel. Here is my challenge for you. Non boaters guide for limited rod count. To limit the amount of gear you load into someone else's boat "If you can only carry 5 rods for all style of fishing"
I got that shimano vanford 2500 on an Abu garcia vengeance 6'9" medium and I love the color match of the black and red and the casting of this combo. I use it for the z-man mini max chatterbait and small swimbait. This is one of my favorite combos. The drag is so smooth next to my stella 3500xc
I’m kind of stuck with Dobyns because I can’t afford to pay for full price anymore. (compared to the replacement fee cost) That being said, I love Dobyns Rods! I’m used to them and I have set ups that includes Fury, Champ and Extreme rods . I replace them every year or three depending on use. So unless there’s some technical breakthrough in material or design, I’m good! I could always use some more tho!
Yea Matt & Tim, 600K is any day…. I will say I’m a Shimano 4Life kinda guy and I still have a couple of Cumara rods,as well as Zodias, Expride, and Poison Adrena, but I’m asking you please don’t say Expride should be much higher in price 😮😮😂😂 especially since all fishing gear is going up by the month…. I absolutely appreciate all the awesome information you share, and I have spent a small fortune on your advice and caught some great LMB and SMB,and Spots. Congratulations on the 600K mark that is so close 🎉🎉 you’ve definitely earned your success, and it seems like yesterday when I discovered you guys and you were at 70K🍀🎣🍀💯❤️🔥
Great video (again) guys -- keep em coming. Was watching Matt do video on swimsuits from 6 years ago -- you were liking Dobyns rods back then - what's your current take on the 4100-250 Robyn's rods in 2024?
In all honesty, I have a Grado DC from 2021 and a brand new essence us DC, but I bought this year and the Corrado keeps up with it just fine. I also have a few scorpion DC‘s. They’re absolutely phenomenal reels. Even my first generation Lew’s Mach crush is a great rig. I think the one that I most excited to get you this year is my Abu Garcia Revo rocket 10.1 to one gear ratio. I feel like that’s gonna take some getting used to just because the ratio was so high. I guess my point is with what you have saved for what you don’t, the records at least in Michigan were decades ago. You can catch big fish with low technology gear.
Shimano spinning reels: Finesse vs. Power lines. Gents, need your help, please. You guys have talked about the 2 series of Shimano reels...finesse and power lines, but you don't mention the reels in either lines. Could you please make a video explaining which reels are in the finesse line and which are in the power line. That'd be awesome!!! Or, do you cover it somewhere online/in a video that I haven't found yet? Love your guys' videos...especially the gear/equipment videos. I learn a lot from ya, so keep up the great work!!!
They literally explain which reels are which every time they mention it. You just have to watch that portion of the video again. Basically anything with a CI4+ is finesse and everything else is power.
Hey y’all need to try out Pride Rods!! They are made by Billy Kistler. He was the founder of AllStar rods. The rods are made from a Northfork composite blanks, and are made here in Texas.
Thanks for another good video guys. I'm not quite sure just who you're directing towards though. I looked at the Tackle warehouse prices and???, a little on the high side for my budget. I've been chasing those green & brown fish since the late 60's (1960's) and have quite a few really nice set-ups and NEVER had I found a reason to spend that much
You may have missed yesterday's video that specifically addresses a lower price point. Tomorrow will address an even higher price point. We strive to help everyone find information that meets them where they are.
Sweet video I can’t wait to have the money for a high end combo , got a 13 fate black 7’1” medium, currently fishing popper early and 1/4 oz chatter mini, caught a few on it great rod so far. Paired to 13 origin c 8.1:1 😎🎣
You guys need to check out Trika Casting rods especially the 6X 7’5mh. They’re as sensitive as Megabass and they don’t snap in heavy cover like the Megabass rods do. Can’t use Megabass rods in Florida
I always wanted to know which is the best rod at the “expride price point.” Expride is supposedly the $300 standard, but many rods have come out around that price point. Such as the Okuma X-Series, FX Xtreme Titanium Series, Daiwa Zillion, Odiehammer Full Send, Phenix Ultra MBX, and maybe St Croix Physyx? Maybe that one is too high.
It's actually lower than that, at $280. It's going to be difficult to ever beat it at an even remotely similar price, but time will tell. We've spent a ton of time with most of what you listed as well 👍🏼
Hey Guys! Quick question. Do you happen to be sponsored by any of the companies youre talking about? Curious to see if that would impact your decisions on what to include.
I just ordered the stuff to build my first rod. I'd like to own stuff I can't responsibly afford so I'm hoping this might be a way to do that. Also excited to have a rod set up just how I want it. First one will be a 7 foot medium. Looking for a good affordable spinning reel for it.
I bought the expride ML on accident, thought it was a true medium due to the wieght specs and the website had it listed as medium. Guess ill try a spinner bait for it
Most people use cheap 65lb braid as backing. The flouro laid on top of it should never get to the connection knot anyway when you're actually fishing with it. You should end up with a 1/4 of your spool being flouro.
I wish you could do a Casting Rod MH Fast since this is considered the most versatile Bass Rod review. In a series of the 3 Rods for Bass Fishing. Do each type independently.
Great video! Can the Expride 7’ 2” ML handle Mini Max chatterbaits? One of my fav lures and looking to upgrade rod for it. Or do you have other rod you prefer for Mini Max? Thanks!!
Awesome help! You guys talk a ton about the 6’10” M Expride, and I have a 7’ M Expride. What is the difference between the two other than 2” of length? Is the taper any different? Now wondering if I should have buyers remorse 😂
Not necessarily rods mentioned, but wanting to know your opinion of the SLX 7'8" H swimbait rod vs. Megabass Levante Leviathan. I want to add one of those two rods to my arsenal. Thank you!
How does the 6' 10" mh Expride compare to the 6' 11" m+ first gen Poison Adrena? My local tackle shop has the remaining inventory of Poison Adrenas @ 25% off... I was planning on getting the Expride, but .... I saw the sale tags
I see you guys don’t use a lot of falcon or Dobyns rods. Those use to be the big thing five to ten years ago. Do you think they are behind on the technology?
I dont think either brand is behind, there is just a TON of competition at each price point. A rod can be great and still get beat out at any given price. Mind you, we've landed 10 lb+ bass on both Dobyns and Falcon, so our suggestions do not come lightly.
What is the best rod for jerkbaits squarebills or shallow to medium diving crankbaits under $150? My budget is around a $300 combo and im planning on doing a slx mgl 70 as the reel, im in love with daiwa reels specifically the new 2024 tatula 100 but wanna give shimano a try
I got a Dobyns Kaden 610-4CB on sale (20%) last year and that's what I use. I have it paired up with a Shimano Metanium. A Megabass Levante Jerkbait Special, which goes for $200 is a sleeper jerkbait/shallow crankbait rod.
If I may ask a question is the last rod that you talked about ( st croix victory 7’10” heavy) is that in a moderate taper or fast taper? Which is the recommended one if I may ask?
I don't even think St Croix is all US made anymore. G Loomis is basically the only one on this video that is all USA made. I would imagine that the high end St Croix lines are still made in the USA, but I could be wrong. Old18 out of Texas is another US company and Cashion.
I love your Videos! Greetings from Germany! Can you Tell me more about dedicated sensitive bottom contact rods? I am searching a cast, one piece or handle seperated, Max 6.2feet long, cast weight about 1/2 oz rod. My main fishing style are rigs and jigs but sometimes we use some jerkbaits from 2,3"-4,3". Tryed some different rods but i seem to cant find a Real sensitive one... often they feel numb even with braided line.. As you talked in this Video about dragging a lure over gravel and notecing a twig, shells etc.. That is what i want! Can you give me some suggestions in a pricerange to 250$? Thanks in advance
what do you guys thing about the G Loomis previous line Conquest 844c MBR, GLX 844c MBR, 804c JWR and 853C JWR , I got a great deal on clearance for the GLX, a friend wanted to sale his Conquest 844c that I put the new Metanium on. Did I spend my money for nothing? Please give me your opinion
St Croix Mojo Bass Fiber Carbon Rod. I didn’t like the handle from looks, once I held that rod. It’s absolutely perfect, St. Croix rods are just money.
Unless the zodias has changed imo it's junk! I've broke every one I've ever bought! A few was my fault and a few was just normal use. Once was second time on the water with it! Expride, different story! Indestructible, great sensitivity and all around great rod!
If it was only one high quality combo. Shimano Zodias 7’ paired with a Shimano Vanford 3000. 20lb braid and 10-20 LB Flourocarbon Leader. Anything above that the differences in quality is very minimal.
lol, I’ve only broken a zodias on camera. Matt…someone broke an expride for me. If I remember right I think you’re both talking about the same thing. Which in my case could be wrong, I barely remember yesterday.
I had a buddy bust 2 bills off of Frittsides. Both happened on their first outing. It was a Marl bottom lake with no rock or wood. Makes me nervous about Berkeley cranks for a bit. Hopefully they fix the issue.
I think it is always worth bringing up that Dobyns offers military a 30% off discount on any rod. This should be mentioned in any gear video imo. You can get a Champion XP series rod for $215 or a Fury rod for less than $100. That's insane.

Seriously, i dont know what they're thinking with those. But ive got 8 dobyns rods and like em all.
And there is something to be said for being able to go back 10 years later and buy exactly the same rod.
@gumslinger11 meh. I don't have an issue with it. I'd say 75% of them break off on all my rods not just dobys. I end up hooking to the reel anyways.
Dobyns may be the best rod company

I always wanted to know which is the best rod at the “expride price point.” Expride is supposedly the $300 standard, but many rods have come out around that price point.
Such as the Okuma X-Series, FX Xtreme Titanium Series, Daiwa Zillion, Odiehammer Full Send, Phenix Ultra MBX, and maybe St Croix Physyx? Maybe that one is too high.
It's actually lower than that, at $280. It's going to be difficult to ever beat it at an even remotely similar price, but time will tell. We've spent a ton of time with most of what you listed as well 👍🏼
Now that’s exactly in my range …. Thank you 🙏🏻! 🎉🎉🎉
Looking rfor a 1/2 to 3/8 oz football jig rod. Expride 7'6" MH MF a good fit?
Hey Guys! Quick question. Do you happen to be sponsored by any of the companies youre talking about? Curious to see if that would impact your decisions on what to include.
7’2 Expride B MHG vs 7’2 Adrena MHG. What’s your take?
Waiting for your gear review for the new G Loomis GLX rods.. And the new mckinium d c 70 reel.
Shimano metanium
We've got you covered 👍🏼
I just ordered the stuff to build my first rod. I'd like to own stuff I can't responsibly afford so I'm hoping this might be a way to do that. Also excited to have a rod set up just how I want it. First one will be a 7 foot medium. Looking for a good affordable spinning reel for it.
Can you throw Texas rig plastics on the 7 2 ML expride baitcasting rod?
I bought the expride ML on accident, thought it was a true medium due to the wieght specs and the website had it listed as medium. Guess ill try a spinner bait for it
You're going to be shocked what all it can do!
What pound braid backing do you use with a 20 pound fluoro leader?
Thanks!!
It would absolutely throw it 👍🏼
What would be a good bang for the buck combo for both lipless and bladed jigs?
Get the MH Expride glass!!
Have you guys had a chance to fish the new 7'6" ML+ Expride spinning rod? How does it compare to the 7'2" ML?
Tequila baccarac is also an S tier rod for big, 1oz+ topwaters. I throw the SB125 on mine all the time and it's just excellent.
Great recommendation!
Awesome help! You guys talk a ton about the 6’10” M Expride, and I have a 7’ M Expride. What is the difference between the two other than 2” of length? Is the taper any different? Now wondering if I should have buyers remorse 😂
Too many rods so little time 😎❤️🎣👍
The legend tournament is my favorite spinning rod and I have some worth $300 more than that one. It's so good I actually want another one
They're impressive for sure!
Not necessarily rods mentioned, but wanting to know your opinion of the SLX 7'8" H swimbait rod vs. Megabass Levante Leviathan. I want to add one of those two rods to my arsenal. Thank you!
Love my Dobyns Fury rods! 💚🖤
Love the "matchy matchy" 😅
Thanks guys. I just bought the 7’3” Expride XH. Should I get curado M or mgl 150 for frogging and some flipping. Thanks again!
The tranx looks really good on the expride, it also has more drag power. Just my opinion
The M is what you want for this, it’s designed to be a big bait reel/heavy power fishing reel.
How does the 6' 10" mh Expride compare to the 6' 11" m+ first gen Poison Adrena? My local tackle shop has the remaining inventory of Poison Adrenas @ 25% off... I was planning on getting the Expride, but .... I saw the sale tags
The saint Croix victory swim Bait rod ,is that heavy moderate
Action?
Love the video I just wish you would have thrown in the price point to help me narrow down the equipment that you recommended in my price range.
Hi, what buzzbait rod do you recommend? 200.00 budget
In the Expride 6-8 medium spinning, for strolling, fast or extra fast action?
The 6'8" is extra fast
Do you think the new Shimano MGL Reel coming out in June with the upgraded mgl III spool will be a capable bfs reel?
If I may ask a question is the last rod that you talked about ( st croix victory 7’10” heavy) is that in a moderate taper or fast taper? Which is the recommended one if I may ask?
Love my Exprides
Another fantastic video!! I like to support American Made companies as much as I possibly can. Could you tell us when these rods are made in the US?
Stella 4000XG FK on an Expride MH = 🔥🔥🔥🔥Catches Trout, Pickerel, Panfish. Then inshore for Sea Bass, Stripers and Bluefish. 💪💪💪💪
What reel are you pairing with the expride 7’2 medium light?
what do you guys thing about the G Loomis previous line Conquest 844c MBR, GLX 844c MBR, 804c JWR and 853C JWR , I got a great deal on clearance for the GLX, a friend wanted to sale his Conquest 844c that I put the new Metanium on. Did I spend my money for nothing? Please give me your opinion
Have y’all use the new G Loomis GLX RODS yet
Is there a big difference between the expride 7”2 med lite and the zodias 7”2 med lite ? I Already have the zodias
Sensitivity goes up and weight goes down, but the Zodias is also a great rod.
St Croix Mojo Bass Fiber Carbon Rod. I didn’t like the handle from looks, once I held that rod. It’s absolutely perfect, St. Croix rods are just money.
What does everyone think about kistler rods KLX and helium ?
Pumped I backordered my Expride 6’10” MH/F. Didn’t realize how versatile it would be….😊
You're going to love it!!
Which St. Croix action comes closest to a G Loomis 844C MBR?
What size vanford is it you have in the video?
Unless the zodias has changed imo it's junk! I've broke every one I've ever bought! A few was my fault and a few was just normal use. Once was second time on the water with it! Expride, different story! Indestructible, great sensitivity and all around great rod!
If it was only one high quality combo. Shimano Zodias 7’ paired with a Shimano Vanford 3000. 20lb braid and 10-20 LB Flourocarbon Leader. Anything above that the differences in quality is very minimal.
I really wish you guys would review some Edge rods by Gary Loomis
lol, I’ve only broken a zodias on camera. Matt…someone broke an expride for me. If I remember right I think you’re both talking about the same thing. Which in my case could be wrong, I barely remember yesterday.
So which budget combo should I get as a beginner?
have yall tried the trika 6x yet?
You guys talked about a Rod for throwing a burrito I am looking for a specific rod to throw a quarter pounder with cheese
What about Shimano curado rods
I busted 2 bills off of money badgers. Thought they might just be low quality. Maybe not.
Congrats on a good tournament
I had a buddy bust 2 bills off of Frittsides. Both happened on their first outing. It was a Marl bottom lake with no rock or wood. Makes me nervous about Berkeley cranks for a bit. Hopefully they fix the issue.
@GigaDinker I've thrown a rock crawler, the same exact one at Table Rock and Lake Tenkiller and no problems.
@@adamcawthon I use Rock Crawlers in a lake with shallow bedrock humps and haven’t had any issues as well. Love the Crawler.
You guys often never include the Poison Adrena lineup in most or your rod videos is there a reason why, I am looking to buy.
