I love that the two of you can have a polite discussion while disagreeing. If only congress and the media followed your lead. Thank you Ben. Thank you Bill.
They are polite because neither on has a dog in the game (for those not familiar with this idiom, it means they have nothing to lose or gain... They are not running for office.
Thats the problem, both parties serve themselves, not us. They won't compromise or talk together and we all suffer because of their careers and party manipulation.
@The Cat you are 100% right my first thought my dog in the fight yes I like my gasoline-powered car and motorcycle and the left is trying to take that away from Me by overpricing gasoline when there is a very abundant Supply. So I'm evidence when Trump was President gas was cheap as soon as Biden became president stop the drilling on federal lands no there's lots of oil there it didn't just dry up overnight so too speak babe I think you wonder what we are in now my first thought is a disaster
Biden IS senile. Even if he's acting the way he's been behaving on purpose, it's still wrong as president. Trump is not half of the things people say that he is and "crazy" is hardly something that you can state as a fact both for Trump and Biden. You can have your opinion on Trump and make fun of the way he drinks water, he's orange, he's uncultured, he's a caricature... well, everyone already did that for four years but is he crazy? Trump did those cognitive tests to see if he's able to be president and he is, as far as I know, Biden refused. With the exception of "lying, corrupt" CNN and NYT, Trump have always stopped to answer reporters and if he couldn't he would yell his reason... Biden is unapologetic crass when he's in a bad day towards reporters AND VOTERS. It's all documented on NPR, Reuters, CNN... Biden "being a creep" is not something MAGA invented, he has the image of creepy for years. I realized that Biden was mentally unwell the time when CNN had to fact check almost all of Biden's answers ON THEIR OWN PROMOTED EVENT. You can search for it if you want... it was about, among other things, the second covid vaccine, if I'm not mistaken...
I would love to hear an intelligent conversation around this question. How is orange man STILL so much worse then Biden? I still don't understand, after 4 years, what he did that was so terrible? If Trump had done one of the things Biden had done, I would have been like "well crap, yall were right, orange man bad"
not as it currently exists until green energy develops further it has to be backed by oil plain and simple and funnily enough green energy relies on oil products in either production or maintenance. I think it is the future but we are not there yet.
@@milanortiz5665 Not really. It puts an unreasonable load on the power grid we currently have. Solar and wind cannot store the energy it creates, so they use batteries. Those batteries use rare metals that we have to get from places that don't like us, like China. So like everyone of course I would love to have renewable energy that doesn't deplete the planet. But its not there, and like Ben said, we can virtue signal all we want, but China and India are still dumping pollution everywhere. That's what people on the Leftist bubble conveniently leave out of the conversation.
Wind is a joke, solar is the way. But solar is only viable when we get crazy stuff like orbital rings and can literally bean energy via laser from outside the atmosphere back to earth. And to get to that point we need NUCLEAR ENERGY, first through fission and in the near future fusion. That's how the green energy people should think but instead they are 100% against nuclear energy, which is why I don't like or trust them.

When Ben is in front of Maher or Sam Harris (his "liberal" friends), he quickly patronizes them with the party line "I agree it is a problem, but the Democrats are addressing it wrong" ... On his show, there is no patronizing. There is also no solution offered. And in the Corporate owned GOP, that is intentional and exactly what they want. Lip service to voters followed by complete inaction by the government or its agencies acting on behalf of the American working class. What Maher refuses to acknowledge is that the Democrats pay the lip service, talk about the correct solutions, and then give blank checks to their half of the corporate donors. Neither one will simply state the facts they both know. Status quo corporate oligarchy is here to stay. The people in Congress are a pantomime for angry, abused working class adults to yell at each other and remain divided indefinitely.
This is also what BS looks like too. Claiming that solar energy collection isn't sustainable on the world stage when they are actually doing it is laughable. This was the same argument the ICE companies had when Tesla was building electric cars, now they are being forced to build their own.

I don't agree with a lot of things about Bill Maher, but I must admit that I enjoy his ability to sit down and have a decent conversation. This conversation was very civilized in that way.
My view too. The fact he's willing to sit and talk makes me feel like we have an ally in him. As its been said, the Left has pushed so far Left that classic Liberals are starting to look Conservative.
I've seen the whole discussion. He comes across as someone you could agree to disagree on some issues with, and agree on others. Until....., the conversation went over Trump, after which raging TDS erupted. As in literal almost frothing at the mouth. Bill has got it bad. I reckon the only reason he sounds reasonable now is because Trump is not in office but Biden is, and he is now free to let go of his TDS and notice how f***ed up the Democrats have become.
It surprise a lot of people here, but most liberals are like this. Sadly, they aren't the ones being glorified by the MSM and getting popular on Twitter. That's partly on us, too. Conservatives and centrists always share the crazy progressives and laugh at how insane they are, but that just draws all eyes to them. We should stop giving them the attention and give it instead to liberals like Bill, here, that are willing to have real, productive conversations.
Love this. Two adults on separate sides of the spectrum, having a great conversation. No nonsense. Just swapping ideas, without malice and name calling. We need more of this.
We absolutely do. ReasonTV sponsors civil debates on things like capitalism vs socialism and winner gets a candy. It feels human, a chance to learn what they think. I'd be more suspect at the officers letting them in, perhaps when large assemblies of our government get together for big events where large groups of protestors assemble, there should be more boots on the ground defending/observing instead of a skeleton crew who open the doors wide for them to enter like an invitation. (And I do recognize the possibility that they opened the doors to save themselves, again the solution would be have a larger security detail). No he doesn't & eff him. Trump took every legal avenue to try to get a fair vote when he was actually robbed. All we wanted was a thorough investigation, but the democrat run states refused to comply. And tell me... Exactly how much proof is needed to admit an election is compromised? Not hundreds or a hundred thousand votes? There is tons of evidence of tampering with the votes. There are tons of compromised situations caught on tape. The 2020 election was a farce. Trump did not incite the riots, nor opened the door for the trespassers to enter. The FBI found that there was no plan to riot in the capitol. It was a spontaneous event that occurred when people that knew they were cheated reacted in kind. It's called civil disobedience. No one was armed or hurt anyone. 22 years ago the papers were full that the Arctic ice will be gone in 2012 due to climate change !! we are 10 years later and the ice cap is still there !
What is the Mars solution? You can't terraform a planet that has no atmosphere and no magnetic field to protect an atmosphere even if it had one. This isn't Total Recall. Are we mining Mars for something? I'm all for going to Mars for the sake of science and the spirit of exploration, but talking about Mars like it's a place where human will go or live in any quantity is a step below Flat Earth as far as stupidity. That's just how it is.
Prevent what exactly? The term as it stands is a highly politicized term that is so broad and vague as to be ultimately pointless at this stage, that's why I dislike the very term 'climate change', since it's a catch-all term people can use to shut down discussion regarding very specific areas of concern. What are we talking about here, air pollution? Sea pollution? Changes in temperature? Where? How? Air pollution is a major cause of concern in China and India and is unacceptable in certain cities, not so much in most of the developed world. Sea pollution is through the roof in most of China (not in a few select places to the West, from what I gather), not so much in most of the West. Specific cases like the air pollution Maher mentioned are a serious cause for concern, for sure, and we should deal with them on a case-by-case basis. When people use the fearmongering term 'climate change', however, it's often associated with a general post-apocalyptic narrative that the world will end in a few years if we don't shut down everything and push a multi-trillion dollar spending bill out toot-sweet. The reality is a lot more localized and the consequences largely dependent on the level of development of the affected area.
I think Bill and Ben are developing an intellectual Bond. We need more of this, not calling each other to be cancelled because we disagree with them. Thank you Ben. Thank you Bill. Thank you for giving us hope.
Right! Ben kept trying to reiterate that that’s not a priority anyway and but Mars got pushed to be the topic anyway. It is nice to see civil discussions and debates… but the way those on the left push their un-reality domineer seven in the best circumstances it seems
Maher's is living in a different reality and Mar's isn't a government project with taxpayer money so why bring it up? Musk is not on the right yet. Changing the nature and subject of the discussion is a cheap trick and Ben saw it for what it was and tried to bring it back from the ludicrous subject that only clowns , like Maher, use on their show for mockery or to put someone on the defensive ..like Ben and it didn't really work at all. Maher can argue well with intelligent people as he isn't one.
Maher is a smart guy. He has his opinions and there are reasons for them. I can respect that. On climate change, there is little we can do - the planet will continue to change even if we are gone. Bill will never admit that voter fraud is a huge problem and that the 2020 election was "voter reassignment surgery".

So Maher believes we have the power as a single country to reverse course on climate change in a very short time where it's an unintended side effect of production and living. Yet at the same time on a much smaller planet there's no chance we could actually intentionally change the climate as an international mission over however much time we want and without needing to give up our jobs, cars, or air conditioning on earth. I am certain Musk has never claimed Space X by itself could terraform Mars, much less inside a small window of time.

th-cam.com/video/HNVLsBXvrhw/w-d-xo.html.
Biden is senile AND crazy
Meanwhile Biden is the lunatic calling PUTIN a murderer in March 2021. Maybe that’s the reason for ukraine?
I would love to hear an intelligent conversation around this question. How is orange man STILL so much worse then Biden? I still don't understand, after 4 years, what he did that was so terrible? If Trump had done one of the things Biden had done, I would have been like "well crap, yall were right, orange man bad"
As a German I think it's funny how perfect Ben predicted what happend with the "green energy movement" and Russia.. All those billions for nothing..
Green energy = more independence.

@@milanortiz5665 Not really. It puts an unreasonable load on the power grid we currently have. Solar and wind cannot store the energy it creates, so they use batteries.

I will concede that there was likely small groups of organized people but they would not be able to overthrow the whole government. Ideally you wouldn't need a large security detail for such events, but we live in non-ideal times, if there are threats abound one must meet them with appropriate response, not kneel in defeat because "it shouldn't be required". That'll be all, it was a retarded protest, this happens often when people assemble in one place with frustration in the air - I cite the summer of 2020 all across america. A mob of people is a hivemind, in the moment people don't think and follow the herd. It was not as big as coup, it was bad but there was never a world where this led to anything like a successful coup in my mind, and if it did it would be the fault of those securing the event - prepare for what is possible not for what you wish to happen.
I have my problems with Bill Maher and I’m sure most of those watching this video do. But him being able to have a civil conversation with Ben is what needs to happen more on the political stage.
True, and I wish Maher could bring more of this open-mindedness to his own show. He _does_ show open-mindedness there, but often he sides with some of his worst guests, and this is infuriating.
Fvck that guy. He said he’d be ok will millions of Americans losing their jobs as long as trump wasn’t re-elected.

"What about a carbon tax?" Ben's answer puts a bright spotlight on the shortsighted thinking that prevails on the Left with most any issue.
Ben also put a spotlight on the shortsighted thinking that prevails on the right, when he admitted many on the right don't believe that climate change is even occurring.
Or did you miss that part?
He probably conveniently missed that part cause it doesnt help his argument.
Well...what if you tax carbon to provide the investment in non-carbon based energy?
Less loss in our systems of electrical transmission
Smaller Nuclear systems that can be located close to need and so don't require massive transmission infrastructure
Better run of river generators
Better batteries
We've painted ourselves into a corner
The only way I see out is with a shit load of engineering..and only 3 out of 100 of those solutions will probably pan-out
So you need lots of seed money in
And then...you might make some of that back on the solutions that are successful

@TH-cam Sucks ass yeah they were...the facts are out there..just look them up...it started with global cooling...then in 70s it changed to global warming...according to the so- called experts the earth should already be gone....if you believe in the climate hoax you're just lazy and haven't done any research.
Lets throw some Green towards the carbon Tax... how do you think a solar panel would fare? How do you think "Tesla" would fare? Gets go the opposite extreme... Iron without coal - you really cant have one without the other, Add a carbon tax and like many left leaning ideas... it ends up adding to the already high cost. I am not saying nothing should be done... but I am saying is the whole idea just has not been thought through yet... Flip the stitch today, and when the sun goes down... the lights go out - we are years and years from Solar and Wind and Batteries to get us through the night - and the question bares asking... At what carbon price? You want less? but it will take a lot more to get there.

Mad respect for the both! Having a discussion, being for the most part on different side of most issue and still trying to understand one another. Our congress should take note.
The Republican senate leader literally has a long speech condemning the Jan 6 riots, in the senate, with the support of his senators.
The term insurgence is ridiculous overkill. AOC claiming she almost died at the mobs hands when she was not even in the same building shows how low & degenerate Dems will go to inflate a situation to back their narrative.

It seems like Bill Maher is just about close to the edge of becoming a conservative
Now this is what I expect. Two people with a difference of opinions able to have a adult conversation about their differences. This is what I expect politicians to do no matter if you’re a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Conservative, Liberal, Moderate, etc.
This is the way it used to be.
@@electricgigolo We can get back to civil debates once we overthrow those who have stolen democracy
Is it really an adult conversation though? Specifically in this clip bill says the republicans are crazy and aren’t worth saving but the democrats are. Think about that
I feel like there is finally a shift happening with regards to this type of dialogue. This desperately needs to also happen with more social-based issues. No matter your level of passion (justified or not) the extremism on either side has made everyone either so angry or so passive almost to the point of indifference. We are all exhausted. I know I am. Before we can find a meeting place or arrive at proper compromises, we at least have to agree on civil, non-insulting conversation. The mere act of honestly attempting to hear and consider an opposing viewpoint is a massive step forward.
Both of them are extremely abrasive normally, put them together and... it's a civilised discussion?! Didn't see that coming.

Even Democracy has lost its meaning its only used by the left to get what they want and that's usually another move closer to the edge of the cliff.
I'd wager that most students now would have no clue about what you're even talking about. But they could all tell you how racist America is.
So you’re admitting this country is anti democracy?
Exactly, the founding fathers hated the concept of democracy because they pulled a lot of their ideas from ancient Rome and ancient Greece. Ancient Rome was a Republic and thrived, while ancient Greece was a democracy and ate itself very quickly. The only reason why liberals use this term is because it sounds like the name of their party that they support, and also the word democracy brings up a lot of emotional and poetic connotations in people. It's an easier rallying cry.
Civil conversation and common ground?? Between a Democrat and a Republican?? No way!! We need more of this from everyone.

How can one still think that we can still PREVENT climate change? Bill says going to mars is crazy but saying that the carbon tax is one kind of a solution sounds exactly the same craziness. IMO
Im a hard conservative, but I still highly believe we should conserve our beautiful planet, I don’t think that we should just toss out our carbon fuels but I highly think we should decrease the usage, our great geniuses like Elon Musk have been making this switch easier and easier each day so I think we should follow the good old 3 Rs Reduce Reuse Recycle. What I hate about Democrats is that they are always exploiting these values to gain votes and when they are elected they dont do a single thing, like sleepy Joe for example 😡
You aren't meant to go green; you're meant to go without.
