Great Fan of yours.
Excellent guidance all through.
But I am 68 years old with a cbad back issue. I use shoulder based Momentum, without twisting the back muscles much as given in your videos to suit my body limitations.
Seeking your valuable advice to preserve my back and yet play decent Golf.
God bless!
Awesome, will give this a go tomorrow on the course 😊⛳️🚀
Hey Tom, I just across the border from you in Ocean Isle Beach. How much would it cost for an in person swing lesson to help nail this move?
Tom - great video as always. So true story, yesterday this dude in my league tells me I love the way your ball sounds and flies off the club. My comment was, "Yeah, crispy like KFC right?" He laughed and I then told him all about you. Expect another subscriber soon.
LOL! That's awesome, Tony!! 😆😆
Thanks so much for generously sharing SagutoGolf with others, keep up the great work, and keep if KFCrispy out there!! 💪💪
Tom
Although Tom’s swing techniques are taught by most good golf pros, his genius lies in his ability to make these techniques understandable and relatable to average golfers. He also makes “the lessons” fun and entertaining. Thank you Tom for another great video!
My pleasure, Frank - I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction.
Thanks so much for your message and support!!

Hi Frank in 80 years countless money wasted spent on so called golf lessons .I can 100 % guarantee NO good golf pros so called .Taught with young Toms Genius .it has taken me 80 years .but when I found Young Tom am now playing the best golf ever .all thanks to Young Tom and his infectious personality and skill and the ability to put it over is beyond priceless .
Wrong - these techniques r not taught by most pros - pros have complicated the swing for 100 years !
It’s okay if you were to listen to eminem. Great lesson as always! You like Joe Mayo?
This guy is it !!! I've never hit ball so crisp... instantly ,,no lies!!!! around the body swing changed everything!!!
Fantastic! I sincerely appreciate your validating remarks, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
Thanks so much for sharing your crispy ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪
Tom
On 4/16 I tried this practice routine for 3 minutes or so and played 18 holes the next day. Prior to 4/16 the bottom point of my swing was not consistent. I was hitting mostly fat, thin and the occasional good shot. I made one additional change before playing on 4/17. I could not figure out how to quit shifting weight to my trail side. I discovered that, for me, if on my backswing my lead knee moved out toward my lead foot toes, I did not shift my weight. Keeping my elbows close together without breakdown was not easy, but when I did the combination of lead knee out to toes, lead shoulder under chin and lead arm straight on backswing was the ticket. I actually enjoyed my golf round with two looks at eagle, one converted, and a couple of birdies for an 80. Have some work to do to figure out to quit breaking down in my backswing (swinging too far back), but this is finally coming together. Thank you, Tom.
Awesome job figuring that out, and congrats on a great round!! 💪💪
Yes - what you mentioned with regard to the knee action is indeed part of what I teach. The lead knee flexes as the trail knee straightens during the backswing, both in their outwardly flared orientations that we preset at address. The flexing/straightening occurs gradually and in response to the increasing forward weight load and the centered tilting, turning, and extending components of the motion. They are not contrived actions unto themselves. We're simply allowing them to be reactive, thereby freeing up the hips and shoulders to execute an unrestricted turn.
By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.

Thanks Tom. I was a member 2021 and 2022. Dropped 7 strokes off my handicap, but would like more. You may see me again.
Brilliant stuff - simple and doable. I'm trying that tomorrow. Thanks Tom

Good drill Tom. When you mentioned the basketball toss...brought back memories of the watermelon toss lesson! Would love to see a repeat of this video with a down the line view.
Yes - definitely along the same lines as the Watermelon Drill, Thomas! Pretty sure I had DTL footage in that one. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/0lYuJdV1Pbo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks,
Tom
I second that. WITH several smashed watermelons.
I so appreciate these videos. I always start the season playing decent golf, but i start tweaking this and that to try to get more and I end up getting myself so out of whack and my game starts falling apart as i go down the rabbit hole. These short vids get my brain to go Cntrl/alt/dlt back to default swing and start hitting them crispy golf shots again! Thanks Tom!
Man I’m telling anyone who will listen about Tom Saguto’s videos. Wait forward much less of a weight shift . We are money now we’re just tweaking and refining. Keep the videos coming please. ❤
Awesome!! I sincerely appreciate your support, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
Thanks so much for sharing your ball striking improvement and keep it "money"!! 💪💪
Tom
Tom, i wanted to let you and everyone know how much help you've been. I was a member at one time to your website and watch almost all your videos here. Last spring and early summer, i was using you swing instructions and shooting in 70's. For some reason, last few rounds of last year and 1st round this year, I reverted back to old swing and shooting in the 80's plus. I decided today to get stacked and weight on the front leg and hit beautifully, crispy shots. 11/14 fairways and 15/18 greens for a 76. I struggled with putter on front 9, 3 putting on 5 holes. I did make 3 birdies. If putting would have been there on front 9, I could have possibly broken par for the 1st time ever. Again, thank you for all you do!
That's OUTSTANDING!! Excellent job self-diagnosing the issue and getting "back to the stack"!! 💪💪
Thanks so much for your support in sharing your greatly improved ball striking, congrats on a great round, and keep it crispy out there from now on!!
Tom
PS: I hope to see you back in the school again sometime soon!
Tom- You have help me to LOVE the game of golf again! I have implemented you techniques and apply them in every golf outing. The guys that I play with now say, that's a great swing and my reply to them is always, Saguto Golf! Thanks for simplifying the swing. I can go on vacation for two weeks and strike the ball crispy every single time with little to no practice. I hope one day I can tell you thank you in person. Stay Blessed!
That is fantastic, Jake!! I sincerely appreciate your kind words and validation, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
Thanks so much for your support in sharing your ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

Excellent example of a 3 minute practice routine which will produce positive results! I went and tried this out and I can't believe how powerful this feels. I can't wait to take it to the course! Well Done As Usual Tom! Always look forward to your videos!

Tom
Thanks Tom, Good stuff as always. Especially with a couple feet of snow still on the ground. Reminds me of the top spin drill...just in slow motion.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Todd!
Sorry about the snow, but just think of how lush those fairways and greens will be when it finally melts!

Tom
Sweet n simple
Tnx Tom❤
You know that's how I like to keep it, Jincy!
Thanks!!
Tom
Great video. I have been doing this which I have gleemed your points over time from multiple posts. The one differance I use and have seen others say instead of a basketball is Throwing a Frisbee, its the perfect move to visulize. Thanks :)
I appreciate that, Jess, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
The Frisbee feel is certainly a valid one and something that I have used in my instruction, oftentimes with golfers whose lead hand is the dominant one. In fact, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and results. This is why I routinely recommend the online school - saguto.golf - to anyone who truly wishes to experience the joys of consistent, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss. The sequential lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

Tom
Hi Tom I’m now signed up to your course and all going well. Every step has made improvements. Last night was working on the tucked right elbow and the straightening of the right arm just after impact. I’ve realised this is massively important. Even managed to hit driver, my nemesis) I was striking it very solid but ran out of time. Looking forward to next session. Also it straightened out the ball flight! Weather bad ATM but can still practice it without hitting balls. It’s like you know what my swing needs next and you’re feeding me the right tip at the right time. !! Can’t wait for the better weather. Really need to build chipping confidence now. Havnt got to that section yet. All the best 🙏 Richy. UK.
That's awesome, Richy - I'm very glad to have you in the school, and I'm thrilled to learn of your excellent progress!! 💪💪
Thanks for the fantastic update, keep up the great work, and hopefully that weather clears up soon so you can get back out there and really have some fun!!
Tom
‘The Shoulders’ - this part of the tutorial is an absolute gem; for me at least. It’s that ‘Ah Ha’ moment when other things fall into place. Tried focussing on turning my lead shoulder to point towards the ball on the back swing, then the other shoulder through impact. Immediate results! Crisp, powerful and straight shots! Finished 2nd in club competition as a result (I would have won if it wasn’t for my own stupidity and losing 4 shots on one hole 😩)
That's *outstanding,* Paul - congrats on your excellent finish!! 💪💪
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.
Thanks so much for sharing your dramatic ball striking improvement, keep up the great work, and let's see you take home the cup next time!!

I started using Tom’s methods three years ago. They do work! It took me a couple of seasons to gain confidence. Hard to reverse 40 years of self -taught golf swinging. A golfer needs solid contact on every shot. No exceptions!

Fantastic drill. It works. Straightening the arms through the ball forces a much better finish, accuracy and control. I call it a “photo finish”. The centrifugal force of keeping your arms straight with your weight forward will keep me from falling back on the swing and finish. A perfect Rory McIlroy photo finish!. BIG DIFFERENCE. THANKS TOM!

Tom, great video for irons regarding the shoulders. Do you have a video like this for the Driver? That’s where I’m having issues. Thanks.
Thanks Jerry - I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: th-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/w-d-xo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

@@SagutoGolf Thank you Tom, maybe I will stop in for a lesson this summer.
thank you so much for sharing this invaluable information. with the forward, 55% at setup, what is the percentage at the top of the backswing? 90% or more?
My pleasure, Jim!
In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We achieve this by addressing the ball "stacked", shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips 1" towards the target while keeping everything else in place. That presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. During the swing we gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.

Dude! what a huge change in my ball contact!! It's true. i no longer even try to wrap the club around my neck on my follow through. it's unnecessary. Golf has been made more difficult than it really is.
*AWESOME!!* And yes - unfortunately, Eric, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎
Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you. Excellent job incorporating it into your swing!!

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction.
Thanks again for your message and support. I hope this drill performs well when you put it into practice!!
Tom
Appreciate the video Tom. The new swing has really helped me with my consistency. A question I have though is, I train all winter in a golf dome hitting off of mats and find my striking is good but when I get out to the range on natural grass it’s like I have to almost retrain. Is there a difference from mat to natural grass or is it just my imagination?
I'm very glad to learn of your progress, Peter - nice job incorporating the instruction into your swing!!
Yes, mats tend to do a great job of masking poorly struck shots - particularly when contact is towards the fat side - so what you are experiencing is not uncommon. The next time you are relegated to hitting off artificial surfaces, here are a couple of suggestions that can help you discern between crispy and soggy impact:
1) Get yourself an old hand towel and fold it in half. Place it no more than 2 inches behind your ball, thereby requiring you to miss the towel and make ball first contact on your downswing. As you improve, move the towel closer to the ball. The small thickness of a one-half folded towel will not impede your backswing takeaway.
2) If you can, put down a thick chalk line or some inexpensive spray foot powder on the mat about an inch in front of the ball. Try to hit the ball first and then the chalk or powder. The mark on the mat - or lack thereof - will give you instant visual feedback.
.
I hope that helps!
Tom
ANOTHER DIAMOND FROM YOU MR TOM.
Thank you , Zulkiflee! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope the drill performs well when you put it into practice!
Tom
Sure a shootin! I’ve tried the big high backswing style time after time and always migrate back to S and T, weight forward, shoulder down, straight arms , shirt backswing and always come out ahead in distance and especially control. Tom says it like it is
LOL! Okay, Ralph - haven't you cheated on me enough times by now??..... 😆
You know the truth resides here, and the truth will set you - and your game - free, so don't go running out on me anymore!!
Thanks for your message and support!

I have been watching your videos recently and been working on left side weight and getting my left shoulder under chin and I hit the ball unbelievably this past weekend. Could you make a video on pitching and chipping?
That's awesome, Josh!! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.

Tom
Tom - really like this video. Been working hard on the left arm straight. Wow. Lots of KFC. You do a very good job on your grip of getting your hands tucked together wrapping your right upper pad over your thumb. Do you keep the left thumb short or let it go long down the grip? I like long. I've found by getting my hands married together has helped me setup solid and keep the left arm straight through impact. I use the Jumbo grip as well. Drives gained 20+ yards. I ripped a drive 303 yesterday. Not bad for a 66 year old guy.
"Not bad"??? That's *OUTSTANDING,* Rich!! 💪💪
I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.
My left thumb is in the "hitchhiker" position, extending one joint past the forefinger. This position is supportive of the proper wrist hinge.
Thanks so much for sharing your dramatic improvement and keep up the fantastic work!!
Tom
PS: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.

Good idea here. This drill doesn't require spending money on balls at the range. Been doing this for years. Do this in your back yard. I put a leaf or twig at where the ball the would normally be and when this exercise is working correctly you'll see how your club head should be when it hits the nadir of the downswing - just past that twig. If you really want to see if you're getting the correct swing you can get some golf whiffle balls and test it out afterwards. I also carry this exercise to the course before tee off to make sure my sequence is working. Keep swinging until I hit that right spot consistently.
Thanks so much for your validating remarks regarding this drill - I sincerely appreciate your support in sharing your experience with it!

Mui excellente! Just remember to keep the wrists quiet. It took me almost 20 years to figure that out. “Wristy business is risky business” as someone once said.
LOL! You've been watching and listening well, Greg, as that is definitely a quote from the old archives!
Yes - simply "allow" the wrist hinge to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.

Tom
Reminds me very much of the stack and tilt which was disastrous for my swing.
Thanks 🙏🏼 I find myself messing with my grip a lot. Any suggestions?
My main concerns with regard to grip are that the handle remains secure in the fingers throughout the entirety of the motion and that the proper hinging and unhinging of the wrists is fully supported without any contrived effort. Beyond that, each golfer is free to add their own individual flair and determine what works best for them.
Tom
Thinking speed toward the *end* of the pass is gold.
I'm glad that clicked with you, Dominic. Far too many folks expend their power potential prior to impact as they try to "hit at" the ball. Instead, if we can achieve maximum speed just past impact it will ensure that the clubhead is accelerating _through_ the ball.
Thanks for your message!

Hi Tom - love your videos. 1 big question though, you're a pretty flexible guy, when I keep my weight forward, move shoulder down and keep left arm straight, I struggle to get much past left arm parallel to the ground without losing one of the above. What would your suggestion be for this? Maybe a video for less flexible golfers than you (which I imagine is 99% of people).
I have the same issue. Any tips to what the issue is ?
Im still young and flexible and i havent seen you do it but you could try to put your feet a little bit wider and pointing the toe a little bit to the exterior (kind of like a duck, watch Tom's feet) Doing so, when rotating, is your belt buckle able to get inline with the front of your back foot and his your chest button able to get complete 90 degrees back from ball. Your front knee will bend forward and your back leg will extend a bit.
Tell me if you can reach that after maybe we can talk about trailarm wrist hinge while keeping the elbow tuck in and your head slightely tilting like its now your front eye a front ear that look at the ball, If you look at 10-12 second and pause or put on slow youll see it from his backswing.

As @ticopain conveyed in reply to you in this thread, it all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
Tom
In the stack and tilt book they state the downswing starts with the left hip moving towards the target, clearing the hips to allow the downswing to work. I note this what you appear to be doing in this video.
Indeed, Andrew, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor to prevent a premature over-rotation and thereby enables the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a very powerful move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while the head - and thus the swing center - remains in place.) Most amateur golfers already have plenty of the rotational component; they need to build in the lateral hip slide to suppress the early-onset spinout that causes so many to get steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. Here are some lesson videos specific to this topic:
- th-cam.com/video/Us6jSgMvJmM/w-d-xo.html

If you measured shoulder tilt at the top of the backswing, it would be about 43 degrees (pointing about a yard past the ball) and halfway past impact or right arm parallel it would be about 54 degrees ( or pointing about a half a yard past the ball). All the great ball strikers are within a couple of degrees of those numbers. Its good advice to get that lead shoulder lower as many amateurs are way too flat, like 23-25 degrees at the top of backswing.
Yes - The "feel" of pointing that lead shoulder at the ball - though slightly exaggerated - is a necessary one for most to achieve the appropriate amount of tilt and thereby retain their relationship with the ball, which is critical if consistently crispy ball striking results are to be expected.
Thanks for your validating data and remarks!

Is Stack & Tilt going to become the « conventional « swing in a close future? I do think so. Once again I can tell it’s the best way to avoid bad spine torsions and it’s logically lead to more consistent strokes. I’m a 34 years player practicing this swing but not playing it yet on the course. I just notice that I got a lack of consistency with my own swing but hit always & always good shots at the practice range doing Saguto’s way. May be a lower launch and less spin but accuracy and consistency. Did Moe Norman and his swing seek anything but accuracy? Don’t think so. Golf is a game of accuracy and accuracy. I’m still working on it and gonna contact you for online lessons in a couple weeks from 🇫🇷 no doubt. Thanks for this great job.
PS: I can’t flare the feet. My trail one is still 90 degrees to the target line . Flaring doesn’t match my body shape .
Actually, this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. As such, folks can call it what they want or don't call it what they don't want, but the bottom line is that this is what so many of the best have done and continue to do, and it just happens that these same swing elements are shared with that dark sorcery known as Stack and Tilt......😎

Great stuff as always! Can you do a driver video soon?
Thanks Shane - I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. I've been making this shoulder turn and tilt my main swing thought. Friday, after hitting a 2nd shot 7 iron 170 yards to within 12 feet, i may have mumbled, "that's how you play fucking golf." Last year i would have grabbed a 5 iron, maybe a 4 iron, to cover that distance.

Great video Tom do you hold the club loose
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Grip pressure is something that is very unique to each of us, which is why conveying personal "feels" in this regard have led so many golfers astray. For example, a 2 out of 10 “baby bird” grip to a strong guy like Sam Snead may equate to an 8 out of 10 to another golfer. We definitely don't want that handle swimming around in our hands because we're so loosey goosey that we can't control the clubface. A secure grip and soft arms are what we're after here. That prescription will certainly resonate differently for different folks, but the key is that our grip pressure should give us complete control of the club while not introducing swing-killing tension that prevents us from properly executing the motion and/or robs us of speed potential. Finding that sweet spot is a highly individual thing, and it is critical to consistently blissful ballstriking.
Tom

I notice in other videos I've seen that teach the stack and tilt method, the tilt seems to be more at the target, whereas in your videos ( which I love btw) your tilt seems to be more towards the ball. Am I correct in this observation? The stack and tilt gets some hate on the Internet but your method seems so simple and common sense. 👍
Hi Daniel,
While the action is literally a tilt towards the target, when you add the dynamics of turning and extending the tilt component is actually what preserves our relationship to the ball during the backswing as you described.
Having said that, I do understand that “tilt” can be a confusing concept to grasp initially. However, it is a critical component of the swing no matter what club you have in your hands, and you'll see it in the motions of all the best players in the world. If you tilt toward the target while keeping your head in place you will introduce the other components of turning and extending to put your body in the perfect backswing position with your shoulder oriented downward towards the ball. To get a feel for the coordinating of these elements we can reverse engineer it as follows: Without a club in your hands rest the top of your forehead against a wall to keep it in place and assume your setup posture. Without allowing your head to move execute the targetward side tilting motion and watch what happens. Magically your lead shoulder has turned downward, and your spine has extended!!
Here's another way to go about it:
1) Get into your setup posture
2) Stand up straight (extend)
3) While standing erect (extended) tilt your upper body towards the target, keeping your hips in place. (In other words, if you are right-handed, stand up straight and tilt your torso to the left like it's the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Vice versa obviously for lefties.)
4) Now that you are extended and tilted, turn your upper body as you would in your backswing, keeping your weight forward while allowing your hips to turn 45 degrees and your trail leg to straighten.
There you have your backswing - tilted, turned, and extended!!
While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system including the tilting, turning extending, and weight forward elements.
Yes - sadly, Stack and Tilt was relentlessly attacked by the "mainstream" of failed "instruction" whose erroneous concepts were threatened by the truth, and their nefarious efforts successfully - albeit temporarily - attached an undeserving "stigma" to the S&T name among those who chose not to do their own research.
The bottom line is this: The body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. As you observe, we can watch any Tour event on TV and we'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within that realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well).
Thanks,
Tom
Looking a lot like Tommy Fleetwood with this action.... and anything that looks like his striking is good enough for me !!
Indeed, Mike, and I appreciate that strong validation in referencing one of the game's truly great ball strikers!

Fantastic truth. This has been the greatest fix in my swing. At 54, my 9iron swing speed is at 80mph with a baby draw. The tilt is virtually important!! Thanks coach
My pleasure, and I'm very glad to learn of your excellent progress! 💪💪
And yes - every great ball striker tilts!!
Tom
does front shoulder pointing at the ball also help keep you on plain?
Absolutely!

I’ve been striping the ball Tom. Long and straight almost effortlessly. No feeling like it!
I know, right? That feeling of crispy compression and then watching the ball take off like a rocket with seemingly minimal effort is a beautiful thing!!
Thanks for sharing your ball striking success and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

Just finished watching your three free videos, and in video number two, you mentioned that some tour pros have switched to this method. Would you mind naming them?
Stack and Tilt is a SYSTEM for swinging the golf club and not a specific swing unto itself. The system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing the trademark motions of the S&T system, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulders at the top. As such, we can call it what we want or don't call it what we don't want, but the bottom line is that this is what they are doing, and it just happens that these same swing elements are shared with this dark sorcery known as Stack and Tilt...... 😎

One burning question ive had with my stack and tilt journey. My lead lead knee drops and bends significantly in the backswing. Should i feel like im turning more with just my upper body? Cheers
The lead knee flexes as the trail knee straightens during the backswing, both in their outwardly flared orientation that we preset at address.
While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
