Just 100%’d this game for the first time last night, well almost. I have Golds with at least 1 star on every cup, all Expert Staff Ghosts unlocked. All vehicles and characters unlocked except for Mii Outfit B because you have to beat the normal staff ghosts by a certain margin to unlock it. I’ll go back and try to get it soon.
GravityDonut That’s true. In Mario Kart 7, there could be anywhere between two and four 3 Star-ranked players in a single race online. Not to mention all the two and one star players as well, making up at least six players of the entire race.
The rewarding feel on mkw wii is much better in my opinion. If you are seen with 3 stars online on mkw your seen as good whereas thats not the same in 8 and 7
Getting a 3 star rank on every cup on every cc on this game is so fucking hard. And that's what i love about it. On 8 you just have to get first place on every race. Now ofcource that's no easy task but on Wii, you can get first place on every race and not even get 2 stars!
Not to show off, but I managed to get 3 stars in all the cups of all categories (50cc, 100cc, 150cc and Mirror). The truth took me several weeks. First, what you need to get the 3 stars is to get 60 points. These are some tips that I give you to achieve 3 stars (according to the rules): 1. Use a motorcycle preferably. It is high speed compared to a kart! Preferably use the bullet bike (for lightweight characters), the mach bike (for mediumweightcharacters) and Bowser Bike (for heavyweight characters). These are the fastest bikes for each group of characters. 2. Use your items (shells and bananas) defensively. You only have to resort to having your items in the back of your character to avoid the shells that come from behind. Don't try to use your items to attack (only in case your rivals are close to you). 3. Dodge POW blocks. To reduce the effect of a POW block, you just have to shake the Wii control at the moment of the earthquake caused by the POW block. If you do it right, a blue circle will appear and you will only make one turn (you will not lose speed). Note: you will only lose the item you have (if you have it). 4. Learn to control your vehicle. This will help you reduce the number of times you crash or fall. 5. Do as many tricks as possible. Only when making a jump should you shake the Wii control. This will help you that when you hit the ground you will make a miniturbo. 6. The start of each race. When the 2 appears in the countdown at the start of each race, press A (or 2) to perform a mini turbo. 7. In case of going off the map you can do this to try to recover positions and time in any race. When you hit the ground after Lakitu rescues you, just press A (or 2) to perform a miniturbo and recover time. It takes a bit of practice. 8. Learn to use your objects strategically. For example, if a green shell appears, position yourself in a straight line with respect to who you are going to throw it at as long as it does not have protection objects or simply use it as a defense, if a blue shell appears, throw it when you approach the one who goes first. Instead, if a bullet appears, use it if you are close to your opponents to hit them, etc.

Hey Gravtac, you have inspired me to start testing the Course Maximum Times for mkwii. I have tested the 150cc Shell Cup extensively fo find the maximum times for the cup, and I plan to continue my research for the other cups. If you could also help test these times that would be a big help. Also, if you could start researching the times again that would help the Mario Kart community greatly. Here are the max times for 150cc Shell Cup that I've tested: GCN Peach Beach: 1:45.000 DS Yoshi Falls: 1:25.000 SNES Ghost Valley 2: 1:25.000 N64 Mario Raceway: 2:25.000 Your proof series are the most accurate guide and it's shame very few have seen it. Not many people know the exact method of 3 starring a cup and I do want this concept to be more known. On a side note, I had some questions: 1) Are the 100cc times always 20seconds more than the 150cc ones? (Like the sherbet land times) 2) Do the penalties and bonuses have the same time for all classes? (For example a fixed hazard collision will incur a 3.5 second penalty regardless of cc level) 3) I saw your position penalty proof video. (The incorrect calculations) By chance have you been able to accurately find the position penalities? Thanks for reading my long comment. If you could also tell us if you will continue testing we would greatly appreciate it. More people should start testing the times. If you have the time to do so, please reply. Jack
Thanks Gravtac, Thanks to your vids I've managed to score 3 stars here and there (though not yet on the 150cc Mushroom Cup where I invariably get wiped out in Toad's Factory). Your presentation of arguments is excellent (and convincing) and the research you have done are impressive. I wonder if you (or others) have managed to ascertain Max Times for other cups?
@TheGr8Unwashed You're welcome! Glad I could help. As far as more max times, I started working on the Star cup but it was taking me a very long time and I had to give up. I know that Daisy Circuit is 2:05, but that is only other course I know positively outside of the Mushroom and Banana Cups. Have fun getting your 3 stars, before you know it you'll be getting 3 starts all the time!
Thank you so much for the information. I've had Mario Kart since 2009, and just tonight I finished the 150cc 3 star (I finished 100cc) awhile ago. I'm not looking forward to Mirror Mode, but 50cc should be fine.
@Songwriter4God On Delfino Square I was referring to the alley with the dirt that does slow you down. But you are correct, not all off-road slows you down. The grey areas on DK Mountain are off-road and going off the red carpet on Bowser's Castle N64 (onto the blue carpet) is also off-road. But remember, off-road penatly is just for trying to earn 3 stars, otherwise going off-road is good for Grand Prix's.
This is arguably the hardest game to get 3 stars on. I had to do it twice cause when I did it the first time my wii ended up breaking so I got another one and had to redo it all.
Luck still plays a big factor in getting 3 stars, I only have 3 stars on one 150cc cup and that was just coming down to having incredible luck with the CPUs. I think only got blue shell the entire GP.
@DarkMitarwii Thanks for the compliment, but I would say it was our hard work. I did find it interesting that the collision penalties were actually 3.5 and 4.5 seconds and not an even 4 or 5 seconds like I had thought for so long. I'm sure you also noticed I did not mention that I hadn't tested other types of mobile hazards like cows, cars, bats, etc.. It just seemed too much detail for the guide. So if those penalty times are ever found to be different I'll just make some kind of amendment.
I remember busting my ass off trying to get 3 stars and I've always said one simple mistake and there goes your chance at getting 3 stars. I still have the game to this day but sadly I need to order a new Wii Remote the accessory port is bad.
@SpikedJerex Awesome! I'm glad it helped you. As far as I can tell all penalties and bonuses stop once you cross the finish line. I haven't tested the bonuses after crossing, but I have made myself fall right after crossing the finish line and that did not seem to have an effect. So I assume the same is true for bonuses.
@russmart55er You're welcome. I'm glad it helped. I wanted to make sure people got accurate information on how rankings were calculated after I read so much inaccurate info on the internet.
This video has helped me so much! I used to just race as fast as I could, always just holding my bananas/shells for protection, and then just get 1 or 2 stars. Now that I'm conscious of these things, and using my items strategically, I'm getting 3 stars left and right. Thank you! Also, say I place a banana down, and then cross the finish line, and then see the animation for a computer hitting my banana. Would that count towards the "Hitting CPU Strategic Bonus"? Just wondering.
@DarkMitarwii Yeah, probably too many but this way people see the process we've been going through and see how to join in the testing if they are interested. I think you'll find the proof videos about the position penalty most interesting since we both worked so hard on that penalty and it still isn't completely figured out. Thanks again for collaborating with me on the research. I hope I did a decent job of reflecting our findings.
So no lowtricks involving walls, no offroad cuts like on daisy circuit or koopa cape, no grumble volcano respawn glitch, and no strategic bagging for items in 9th-12th. Racing for 3 stars is very different from normal racing.
Recieving these penalties does not maje it impossible to achieve three stars. It just means you will need to drive faster. If doing these techniques will save more time than the penalty, then it is definetely worth it. For example grumble volcan ultra is definitely worth it.
@@isaacmulak958 I'm just saying a lot of these techniques will often not be worth it due to the unpredictability of items and cpus. Grumble volcano ultra and possibly wario's goldmine ultra (if not on ctgp) will be worth it as you know how much time each saves compared to how much time it takes to perform.
@h3ll0xzx555 I only know for certain the max times for the 150cc Banana Cup and the 150cc Mushroom Cup. I did also discover the max time for the 150cc Daisy Circuit is 2:05. But as far as the rest of the max times, I don't know them for certain. It took hours and hours of testing to come up with those max times and I had to give up trying to figure out the rest of the max times.
Gosh I remember 5th grade me taking a long time to get 3 star ranking on every cup just so he'd have badge online. So I was half right as a kid because I noticed that if I fell off the stage once I would not get a 3 star rank.
@pwnage451 That kart is the Sprinter for Medium weight characters. You need to unlock 24 fast staff ghosts in time trials by beating the normal ghosts by a large enough margin.
@sonicpoz Yes, colliding with walls (fixed hazards) effects your ranking but nothing else. You need to avoid collision with fixed and mobile hazards as much as possible if you want to increase your chances of getting a better ranking.

I remember busting my ass off trying to get 3 stars and I've always said one simple mistake and there goes your chance at getting 3 stars. I still have the game to this day but sadly I need to order a new Wii Remote the accessory port is bad.
I finally got 3 stars after a couple of years and I am NOT playing Mario Kart Wii AGAIN!
Thanks SO much, this helped me alot. Do you use a wii wheel to play MKW?
Thanks for being specific. I wouldn’t have had trouble understanding but I know some people would have.
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
Some how young me got three stars in everything.
Same
@russmart55er You're welcome.
Playing 2021;)
Me too lmao
Same bro

Definitely stands the test of time
@DarkMitarwii Yeah, probably too many but this way people see the process we've been going through and see how to join in the testing if they are interested. I think you'll find the proof videos about the position penalty most interesting since we both worked so hard on that penalty and it still isn't completely figured out.
Thanks again for collaborating with me on the research. I hope I did a decent job of reflecting our findings.
Glad my video helped. Hang in there, you'll get three stars if you keep trying. Mirror mode is tough but does seem to get easier the more you try.
This was very helpful. I got a three star mirror 150cc special gold cup. I only have you to thank for the advice.
Great! I'm glad it helped.
Grumble volcano ultra and possibly wario's goldmine ultra (if not on ctgp) will be worth it as you know how much time each saves compared to how much time it takes to perform.
dude, you do not know how helpful you are! thanks so much :)
I like this system better than Mario Kart 8's "Get first each time = 3 stars", 3 stars actually required alot of skill in this game
you're right but then 200cc would be a *BITCH* trying to complete that way.
Thanks for uploading this updated video.
@pwnage451 That kart is the Sprinter for Medium weight characters. You need to unlock 24 fast staff ghosts in time trials by beating the normal ghosts by a large enough margin.
Good ol' nostalgia.
wow, you juste changed the life of my kids
Hopefully for the better!?
Gravtac could you make a 2019 remake or something like that? Not that this video isn’t just that it may be cool.
@sonicpoz Yes, colliding with walls (fixed hazards) effects your ranking but nothing else. You need to avoid collision with fixed and mobile hazards as much as possible if you want to increase your chances of getting a better ranking.
nice one dude watched this vid and got my 3 star rating in no time i always assumed trick jumps made a big difference thats where i was going wrong big time though cheers again dude your a star :-)
Tbh, this video didn't need proof, 3 stars was hard but easy, it just requires a lot of attention.
What i like to do is use banana peels or red/green shells as defence items & pretty much hoping for the best. Also i use manual not automatic drifting
GamerStorm Im not trying to offend you or anything but automatic drifting is easier for me
@ToppsMatchAttaxCards You're welcome! I really appreciate hearing that my video helped.
Thanks for the video. Extremely helpful. Have you considered a website? That would be great for quick looks in between races.
