I think it's unfair to blame these high monthly costs on 'NYC pricing'. I don't feel like the prices for food and coffee are that much higher than where I live in northern Europe, yet this is nearly my monthly spend. The reason you spend so much is mainly because of your lifestyle. Never cooking your own meal just adds up really quickly. Obviously I understand that this is just the way you choose to spend your money and I think you're really enjoying this lifestyle. So you should absolutely do what you feel like, but don't just blame it on the prices that are only a bit higher 😉
i was gonna comment something similar! his weekly spend is my spending budget for 3 months, and he spends it all on takeout food. no hate to him or anything, but i definitely think most of that spending was avoidable
I believe my stomach would hurt if i would eat so much out. I understand it's part of the lifestyle in big cities but seriously nothing beats home cooked meals.
It's also because of where he buys his food. I could use the amount of money he spends on coffee per day and buy an entire meal at NYC Chinatown.

Partially because of the money he has to burn from his overpriced/overrated clothes that get sold out within minutes to his fanbase. You have a dedicated fanbase and you’re guaranteed to sell out any and all merch.

It's so funny since my best friend also used to have the same mindset when she was Elliot's age. Cooking and cleaning take A LOT OF PRODUCTION TIME. She was intending to hire a maid/chef (growing up in shanghai this is pretty normal for expats). Now in our late 20s approaching early 30s, she decided she loves to cook, grocery shop, ect ect. Not because it saves her money but more so she just enjoys it and helps her slow down so she doesn't constantly feel like she's in a huge rush to push production and work all the time.

Agree. I cringed watching this tbh. But i get that he’s young and earning but it felt like, he’s not there yet-that realization/epiphany lol. So I let him be. But for me, wrong/clickbait title (should be what I eat in a week)… and yeah, he was justifying his expenses.

I appreciate that we get transparency in this. Lot of these videos I swear everyone is legit living a lie for a week just to make the content. It’s also worth mentioning you would still have rent / bills to add into the weekly breakdown which in NYC are real numbers.

honestly one of the best decisions i made was getting into the habit of making my own coffee -- i found beans i like, and a way i like to do it (i use a type of french press) and a milk steamer and its saved me so much money, plus ive had a lot of fun getting into learning about coffee and trying to get better at coffee art!! lol. i used to spend almost $100 on coffee a week and now I'm down to about $20 at the start of the month for beans and then i'm good :) it's a fun hobby tooooo (making all kinds of different syrups on the stove, and experimenting around!)
Yeah, but French Press only works for french press. As you can see, this guy mainly drinks lattes which requires an espresso machine otherwise with a french press it'll taste watered down and weak. For some people like yourself, you can mix french press + milk but it would taste very wrong to people who are in the coffee world as only typically a moka pot (apart from espresso) is somewhat capable of producing drinkable stuff when mixing with milk. You can actually get a decent espresso set up for fairly cheap (grinder will be more important than the machine itself).

Food, coffe etc. cost the same in Scandinavia. So for most students its seen as a luxury to go out and buy coffe or food.
So I don’t think it’s the NY-prices, but more a life style choice. As you mentioned: not cooking your own food can be expensive. 🤗

Apart from cost, there are many nutritional and mental health benefits from cooking at-home meals! And if you plan properly and choose simple recipes, it definitely won’t take 2 hrs.
I agree, also it's a great way to slow down a bit before getting back to your work again; and oven cooked foods is a great way to mitigate if your concern is time consumption

Jokes aside, honestly once your income exceeds a certain level, coffee runs are a nice way to get some steps in, experience a different atmosphere, and a chance to have a social break sometime during the day that can easily be worth the $5~!

Congratulations, you're rich! Most 23 year olds can only dream of earning $2000/month let alone spending that amount. In a highly taxed place like NYC, you probably have to earn $3000 to have $2000 after tax to spend.
I live in an expensive state near nyc, even when I had a low salary I still earned $2k/ a month after taxes
@@GlamGoddes101 That's great! The median annual wage in the USA was $34,248.45 in 2019 according to the interweb. With inflation it's probably around $36,000 or $3,000/month now a few years later. However, that's for ALL workers. People in their 20's earn far less. The highest earners are those in their 40s and 50s (due to their higher seniority and experience) which skews the median higher. So the bottom line is that 23 year old Elliott is doing very well financially to have enough after tax money to spend $2,000 per month.

Elliott you would literally save so much money if you bought instant coffee and milk and an ice tray and just made the iced latte at home i promise it tastes the same, better in fact
I started buying the big starbuck coffee bags at sams and been making my own cold brew coffee. A large coffee at star bucks is now $8.50 and now my new job has 3 coffee machines at work for us to use so i am good on coffee every morning and afternoon.

Easy air fryer recipe
Buy chicken thighs and Dan o’s seasoning (hot chipotle). Season chicken heavily and put in air fryer for 20 mins at 375, then flip and cook for another 5 mins.
Damn, someone mentioned in the comments that he spent like 100$ on coffee that week. Maybe just make it at home? That would save you 70-80$ weekly for sure.
