Dang Hank, I SELDOM if ever, have heard something that touched my SOUL like what you just gave us !!! I'm from Far North California, (always and forever Merle Haggard country). Up here in Redding, honestly about every 20th or so license plate we see, is from out of state (often out of country). It is a great joy for us to see cars from the South up here. If you listen to the lyrics and Hanks words and feelings to this song , I as a Yankee think this is one of the greatest country song ever written and performed by a true legend!!! This is one of many ,I know but it speaks volumes!! I farmed my life away up north but as a young man I spent 4 years in Texas about the time when this song came out!! I have never seen or met more hospitality and kindness by true Texans and also what they called Tex MEX back then. Wonderful people. I flew to Dallas a couple of years ago and rented a car to my old stomping ground. Everything was un-recognizable as the population and growth exploded!! But I still have my memories of the great state of Texas!!!
