As a 14 year old, i just watched this video and i wholeheartedly agree with everything here. I am an avid player of Roblox, and I can confirm what is being said here. This place CAN be dangerous, but it is not for the average player. that is, it still does happen. Thank you for this video, and thank you for bringing situations like this to light.
10 months late, but safety tip: Never explicitly say your age online, if you can help it. It makes it easier to pick out and target kids. Not saying YOU are an "easy target", but like, every child/teen carelessly gives away their age bc they don't realize that any info can be dangerous, which sucks, but normalizing not giving that away so easily helps. (Sorry if I worded that awkwardly or clunkily, I struggle to explain/phrase things. Cognitive issues.)
Chiming in to agree with the other commenter, if you are underage, revealing your age online is dangerous! You don't want to give any personal information, especially because stating your age as a minor makes you an immediate target for any weirdo who finds your profile.

Your mom did the right thing and you sound very wise for your age. However, I also want to tell you that you should be very careful sharing your age or any personal information online. Stating your age online when you are a minor makes you an immediate target for any weirdo who finds your profile. I don't say this to lecture you or say that you are an easy target or anything. The ped problem is so terrifying. When I was 15 I made a 9 year old friend on Roblox, we were like big and little sister and played a lot together. One day when she was around 10, we were on a Discord call and she asked me where I lived. I said Canada and asked her the same question, expecting her to tell me a country, but she sent me her whole home address. I was shook. What if she was talking to someone with bad intentions?

@@whoizcaitlin_375 because it was totally innocent. We just played Adopt Me and other games like that together, and sometimes talked on discord usually by chat. She was a fun person and we simply connected very well as friends. I’m used to being friends with younger kids since the neighborhood I grew up in had a lot of kids who were smaller but got along with me. If we’re able to be friends, and if I’m not dangerous to them, I don’t see any problem.

There is one problem with Rubens statement "tell you're parents if you are being pursued by a predator" but that's the problem. The kids don't want to. They love Roblox and they know if they tell their parents they will take away their devices, games and any connection to the virtual world will be tooken away. They don't want that, so they choose to stay silent.

call me biased if you wish, but i have an extremely deep hate for this platform because of what it’s become. a soulless “game” where your kid can become groomed and traumatized in minutes. if i ever have kids of my own, (and if roblox doesn’t go up in flames by then, which i doubt) im keeping them FAR away from roblox.

It’s funny how I used Minecraft from the age 11 till now and I’m 25, but in all those years I never was groomed or experienced anything too out of line…..what’s wrong with Roblox? As a older player of kids games I really take pride in only playing with other adults and denying kids to add me. I’m also a parent now and I monitor my child’s games.after my imvu days I cannot let her experience what I did.

Roblox game dev here, I’m so glad you brought up the problem with being underpaid! Making a Roblox game up to today’s standards for front page quality is not much different from making an indie game on steam, yet it’s not enough to actually make a reliable source of money. A lot of major games I’ve seen require full-time dedication but you’d be better off leaving the platform for another. It’s supposed to be a platform for young developers to hone their skills and get their names out there yet Roblox makes it so difficult to do so. I’m a 20 year old student like most other devs, I need money to survive, I can’t dedicate my time to developing a full fledged game while not receiving the full reward for my efforts.

The problem with kids is that they are naive, they silence themselves in fear of losing what roblox means to them, a place where they made actual friends and had fun, and telling your parents about a predator who groomed you on your game is going to set off alarms for the parents, and they know that.
This is true. I mean I have played Roblox since 2017, and even I had weird experiences with players when I didn't know what was happening..
And it's not easy to talk to your parents about it because of the fear of your parents getting rid of Roblox.
In a way, Roblox has gained such a grasp on you that you feel you can't let go unless a breaking point comes or some guardian angel frees you from its grasp. For me personally, as a socially anxious and relatively deep person that dwells more in his thoughts than in the social atmosphere, the fear of losing something as addicting as Roblox was hard to deal with, especially since boredom catches up when you have no means of doing something more entertaining.
I eventually came to the breaking point when I started to see people around me suffer as a result of my behavior, and the reminder of how short my life is constantly ringing throughout my mind gave me a chance to take, which I used and quit Roblox for a good 5-6 months. Of course, I relapsed as many who suffer from addiction do, but I broke out again and over time, my time-away period from Roblox began to grow in size.
In the end you either make the choice to wage war against an addiction and realize the impact it has on you and people around you, or continue to fall deeper and feel miserable as the wraith consumes you.

I don’t think that Roblox cares about their users safety as they did and don’t want to. My problem is that 4 of my friends were victims of predators, had their personal information leaked, being scammed for money when me and my friend wanted to make a game together but we couldn’t because for some goddamn reason we had to pay 3000 robux! It was so…weird and I am still confused about it.
Adult who still uses roblox here,I mostly keep playing for nostalgia. Rarely ever use the chat window,and I stay away from public servers. It genuinely hurts to see a company that made such a creative and wonderful platform turn into greedy and scummy suits. Back when I was playing for the first time,roblox actually had soul. People gave a damn and so did the people running the game. Now there’s very little left. Some of Roblox’s past remains,like the old war clans and Of course,longtime creators (at least the ones who aren’t preds),but other than that,it’s changed for the worst. And it frustrates me to no end that they refuse to change again,just because it costs money for them. Makes me even angrier that they let all this creepy shit slide.
I deliberately play games that allow private server or can do single player. Not because I don't want to play alongside children but because modern multiplayer games on the platform leans way more hard to appeal to children. It's kinda hard pill to swallow that the platform never grew up with their player base and it never will.

this actually happened to my lil sister.. she's 10 and she secretly chat and do voice call with a guy in his 20s.. and the chat history is disgusting.. this guy acts like he's my sis bf.. it's disgusting! and I'm sad that my sister fell for this.. she's too young and vulnerable..

Very glad that these topics are being brought to light, and that even kids can watch these and prevent such things from happening to them. I've been on roblox since i was 8, and luckily i have not had those experiences. Nor have i thought about all the things roblox does, such as a literal stock market in disguise in the game's store. Its unfortunate ruben had to go through this while trying to prevent more and more people falling victims to this behaviour.. Very good documentary.

Thank you for bringing all of this up. As much as Roblox can be a fun place to play games (hell I still enjoy playing it from time to time, not as much as I used to but still quite a bit) it can also be very dangerous. I’ve had my fair share of being groomed on that site when I was about 12-13, especially with this one guy who would ask me a bunch of sexual questions in the form of 21 questions and make me go into sexual games with him (this was like 2017 or 2018 so there was a slight spike in nsfw games on Roblox if I’m not wrong), luckily my dad found out and make me block him, I still think about that time every now and again and how gross it was. Kids, please be careful when playing Roblox. Not everyone wants to be your friend on there.
I haven’t played Roblox in well over 10 years, and this is the first time I’ve really seen what it has become today. The feeling of watching something you used to love and cherish being absolutely violated by greedy and downright sick bastards is an indescribable feeling. It’s mainly Anger, this is not the game I grew up with, and I hope they lose everything. I’m praying for Ruben’s success, and if anything he can raise awareness of this twisted company’s practices.

I grew up playing this game from like 2006 or 7 and seeing it regress like this is mad. I remember when there were guests/og cursor/ og death sound/ tix/the 5fps videos on TH-cam. Hell I remember when it was incredibly easy to bypass chat filter and everyone going around say 123 for gf/bf.
It is literally a parents worst nightmare. My sister plays roblox and she met a girl who she “thought” was a friend from school. She told her what school she goes to. We were scared for our live. She told her the name and age. I hope nothing ever happens to her. It’s so worrying to think that my sister could be taken away from me.

I have luckily never had anything like this happen to me but one of my close friends has had this happen multiple times when she was younger. She doesn't play Roblox anymore because of all the gross stuff that was said to her. She was smart and never talked to anyone or gave out her address but the fact that this stuff can still happen is a problem
Glad that more people are finally starting to acknowledge what goes on, on Roblox. A cousin of mine who is 13 was groomed for around a month by some dude who was in his 20's on Roblox, Uncle made several reports to Roblox and made sure that it stopped right after he found out, but it's scary to think what would've happened had he not noticed, since I doubt Roblox would've lifted a finger.

It's the sad truth that this is indeed the true platform which lies beneath what ROBLOX presents to the world. Moderation has always been an issue and it's something that really needs to be improved.
Moderation is the ONE THING THAT CAN SAVE THEIR PLATFORM, and yet it is being ignored.

About "Roblox is Stealing from you" part, I totally I agree with you. When the time that Builderclubs have been added. Roblox Outrageous Builderclub basically gives you a lot of Robux. For example, if you bought Outrageous in October First, you'll get 60 Robux daily, if we do the math, 60 times 31 equals 1860. You'll get 1860 Robux. the cost of it is 20 dollars. As a Roblox player I can confirm this is all exactly right. Moderation at the moment is terrible , as a kid I’ve seen many interesting things on Roblox which are purely NFSW content which is infact truly disgusting and I’ve caught many predators on the the platform and even got groomed before when I was much younger then I am now it’s horrible to see how it is now.
I've been in the Roblox community for more than a decade. Started off watching early gameplay videos and machinimas on TH-cam, and then about seven years ago, I actually began playing it myself. I've got many fond memories of this platform, the games, the people. It's really upsetting seeing the direction this company is going. I really hope that Roblox changes their act soon, because they are killing their own platform and driving away the original player base. They don't even realize it. They're to oblivious and blinded by ignorance, incompetence, and greed... and I'm really not so sure if I should stay aboard this sinking ship of a platform or abandon it. I couldn't tell you why I love this platform so much when at it's core, is just a silly Lego clone.
I stopped playing it completely after all this started happening, and I've had more fun than I've had on roblox in a long time

I've quit completely in 2020, my mental health has improved significantly and I've found myself becoming a more mature, better person. Not only has quitting helped me out significantly, it also helped with many other aspects.

I had a friend one time get lucky, he didn’t put any ads on his game at all and the game blew up for no reason. He made around 200k visits and it was his first game that started getting popular. He really did deserve it too because he was a really decent dev and his game was pretty good too. But sadly it was short lived, because after making around R30k from that game (after the 30% fee) roblox took down his game for absolutely no reason and gave him a warning saying his game was inappropriate, even tho there are wayyyy worse games on roblox and his game had nothing bad In it. This was years ago now and sadly he quit roblox and I have no way to contact him, I’m not sure how he is doing or what happened to him. But it’s just sad to see that roblox punished people who don’t use the same system for getting games popular as everyone else.

As someone who is a young minor I've always been very cautious on the Internet especially with people i play with, i have encountered some older p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶ monsters on roblox who tried to groom me and get me to send pics of myself and its horrible to feel. I’ve played Roblox for quite some time and have always been careful of who I interact with. Someone I’m very close to was persuaded into sending pictures of themself to someone on Roblox. I haven’t been informed much of this situation but it was very shocking to hear about it. I’ve played Roblox since I was a child, and its important to keep in mind that anyone of any age could be on Roblox.
Ive come across two older people who had negative impacts on me in roblox, one when I was 11, one when I was 13. it’s completely unacceptable, luckily I was smart enough to eventually block them both. And although most younger players on the platform have enough common sense to not give such personal info, there is plenty of situations in the world that people dont even realize exist. There is certain games that roblox has the proper “age limit” but there is a lot of work for roblox to go through that is allowing underaged kids to join those games.

Someone who started playing Roblox in 2007 here and playing it on and off to this day. Late 2000s to early 2010s were, in my opinion, the best years to be playing it. Sure, drama still happened and unfair moderation actions were still around (plus the game itself was clunky back then), but not as bad as it has become now.

I was going through a break-up and chose to vent on Reddit. Unfortunately I put my age in the post at the time cuz it was one of the rules of the subreddit. I was 14. This guy starts messaging me trying to comfort me. He was 32. We became friends, what looked like friends to me at the time, and talked for hours late into the night for maybe two weeks or so.
When I mentioned my parents and things that bothered me about what they do (my parents are great parents but every kid gets upset with them at some point) he encouraged me to almost stray away from them and what they say. He constantly called me mature for my age and I get that a bit sometimes so I didn't think anything of it. He even set up this card and put $300 on it for me to use. That's what really drew me in because my parents will get me what I want most of the time, but they won't buy things for me willy nilly if it doesn't make any sense or if I don't deserve it.
My scenario was EXTREMELY lucky because I had mentioned this guy to my best friend cuz I tell her everything. I feel embarrassed to admit it but a part of me was actually starting to fall for him and was close to giving him my ADDRESS by the time I told her. She was skeptical about him. Reasonably so. She couldn't do much sadly, but she did tell me to really reconsider what I was doing and think about the fact that he was most likely grooming me. Just those words alone was enough for me to come back to my senses because the normal me would never even think of telling someone I've only known for two weeks online personal info.
So I made another quick post on Reddit (on the same subreddit where I first vented ironically) and literally everyone said to block him and run. That and what my friend told me solidified it for me. Ironic that Reddit was a part of what saved me from myself and even the same subreddit, but I give most of the praise to my friend. Without her simple text I don't think I would've started rethinking things at that point. The main point here tho is that the only reason this 32 yr old was able to connect to my 14 yr old self was because I was in a vulnerable position after a break-up and subconsciously looking for something to replace that relationship. Pedophiles will use your vulnerabilities against you and on a platform with kids even younger than I was that most likely has most kids on there than on Reddit? A sickening combination to say the least

He ensured to keep the kid fully anonymous and instructed him NOT to talk with anyone about what he learnt. Roblox in China is another Roblox, stricter and more moderated, to the point if a child plays more than 2 hours on the platform his location gets sent to the police. If you didn't knew already China has a law that strictly forbids playing videogames for more than 2 hours a day.

I was only 9 when I saw a picture of some getting railed on Roblox. It's honestly sad and disgusting. And to think something that was originally made for kids is GENUINELY adding a dating feature for 17+. Not even 18+.
The Starship space game they mentioned in the beginning actually exist, its called Starscape and it is an amazing hidden gem.
As a developer who has made real cash from Roblox, I can say this is unfortunately all true. Roblox has so many issues, and they ignore almost every single one of them. For example, those "condo" games, I know of one which is literally reuploaded by a bot every time it gets taken down (which takes too long). Thanks for making this video, as I hope these issues are made more public in the future.

I'm a twenty something and I play Roblox with my nieces. We live hundreds of miles apart so it's a nice way for us to keep connected and have fun together. There have been some absolutely terrifying and uncomfortable moments I've witnessed between them and other players. I've tried to reach them about speaking up for themselves and not taking crap, but these people are so damn persistent. Even reporting them does nothing. One of the worst moments was when one of my nieces and I found a house, the inside of which was decorated like a strip club. There was tons of explicit and suggestive material in the home and I reported the player immediately and my nieces and I server hopped. Many children don't have someone to watch out for them, though. It's disgusting and a pervasive problem they need to address.

when I was 8 I met a man on Roblox who I thought was around my age. he ended up tricking me and turned out to be a middle-aged man who threatened to come to my house and hurt me whilst showing me my address and telling me all the horrible things he would do to me. I did block him but he found me on multiple other accounts and kept harassing me and no matter how many times I reported him to Roblox they did absolutely nothing. No child or teenager should have to go through this and then be ignored by the people who are meant to help you.
Another thing about Roblox's horrible moderation and biasness:
There was a game by the name of meep city, this game was normal at first when we were introduced into customizing houses, setting up parties, playing mini games for in-game currency, roleplaying, and customizing your avatar. But the one feature that was the main downfall of that game was the party feature. In the beginning around 2018 after the game kicked off in 2017 people were starting to figure out ways to have inappropriate parties so they would use certain house decors to do it. At that time the creator and some of the moderators of the game was able to acknowledge it and remove some of the items that were being used, but it didn't help at all. Over the past few years people were starting to get smarter with trying to make more sexual orientated parties by using more of the house decorations as a way to do since the game has been updating. People were complaining about how the owners of the parties that were on the list were using the party feature inappropriately on twitter, but the moderators and the creator didn't listen at all. Over time, these parties were getting more worse by the minute from the way more people were making them. Us, the ones that care, tried our best to contact the Roblox moderators about this issue but they didn't do anything at all. On February 16, 2022 the game was put up for review because they were reported on the news about how meep city wasn't taken down nor at least moderated about the adult content that was being produced on there. The only thing that the Roblox moderators did was remove the party feature instead of take down the game overall. This might be an assumption, but I believe it is due to the game being a money maker for Roblox. That's why I think they didn't bother to look into it.. After 6 years of parents and players that were complaining about this game, they finally look at it because of them being reported on the news.
This really shows that Roblox only cares about their reputation and money.

3. Child Safety
4. Dev ex not being higher
5. People not being paid what they should be owed.
6. The security problems
7. The servers
8. Doing a lawsuit over the stupidest of things
9. Letting people free when they did stuff that would lead them 10+ years in jail.

11. Underrated games problem
12. Only listening to famous players
13. Having a tax system
14. Making premium = admin powers
15. Adult Playerbase when it's a kids game
16. Algorithm choosing bad games over good games
17. Not doing bad stuff to famous people unless they are being sued
18. Not getting your money back from refunds
19. Advertising
20. Moderation
21. False terminations being very common
22. Only taking action if reputation and money is on the line
23. Corrupt admins
24. User Created Shirts, Pants, and accessories costing money
25. Private servers having the option to cost money
26. Not suing child preds on the platform

Its really amazing how there's even more things that weren't even listed here, so many things, Roblox's moderation system really isn't as good as they say it is, there are explicit models on the marketplace in plain sight for instance, and they recommend things you have to pay for. It's really sad what roblox has become today, that includes the playerbase a bit, but I won't judge.
Wow, they allow that and yet you can’t say certain names or things like “Hairbo Goldbear”. (I know this because I jokingly tried to name a character I was role playing as this on a roleplay game)
The users are brainwashed, i speak from experience. Though i have quit roblox.
also the limted item stock market, not sure how that is doing right now i quit roblox a long time ago

as a 29 year old player, i usually just play because of the nostalgic value since i started playing when i started high school, and to have silly fun with my friends now a days. its sickening that people as old as i am are using it for such.. disgusting things..
