    Wizards are wizards no more, now they are lizards, and the greedy ones. Magic the gathering became way too expensive for normal earning mortals and it became a game for rich.

    Absolutely fine with proxies as long as people understand what expensive cards do to the power level of a deck. If you put a Crypt and Mox and Free Interaction and Cradle/Sanctum because you paid cents for it your casual edh games can lead to a lot of feel bads for the people that don't proxy themselves. I am lucky enough to complete my collection of everything I need but I don't run these in casual. It'll really restrict the number of casual pods youd fit in.

      Totally, once we decided to add proxies in our pod the level creep went to the roof and people are starting to feel bad because we can't play silly decks anymore. If anyone shows up with a casual deck they just can't play against cEDH

      My play group use to have the rule that you can proxy if you own at least one copy, but with the way that WoTC has been hyper printing products, and the way they have been treating their customers. We as a play group decided that we are cool with proxies now. You dont have to own the card, cuz there's no guarantee that those high dollar cards will hold any value anymore.

    I’m 100% pro-proxy. I started playing M:tG Arena after being out of the game for years.
    “Cool! Digital! Finally I can play with the cards I want to without breaking the bank!”
    Turns out it’s really hard to collect the rares/mythics at the rate the net changes. So I went back to paper, got my friends back together (from 25 years ago) and started proxying cards so we can play the game without skipping our mortgage payments.

    Magic the Gathering is a TCG (Trading Card Game) the name says it all the trading/collecting aspect is as important as the gaming aspect.
    I also find very funny people complaining about value drop on cards, I mean my dude it's not like you are ever going to sell your dual lands or mana crypts if you collect them so I don't see the point about complaining.
    It's the same logic as buying a sport car and then complaining about it becoming cheaper for everyone to purchase.

    By focusing on a casual format as their main income stream, wizards made paying for real cards completely unnecessary. Sanctioned events were and have been the major driver of selling real cards. They killed the pro scene so not nearly as many players out there grinding. If there's a card I want for a commander deck I wont pay over 10 buck in most cases. Proxies are the natural progression of their marketing strategy.

  • @spartanracer

    i’m all for proxies. I really don’t care about the value of elitists’ collections and their secondary market. Magic wasn’t meant to be an investment. It’s a trading card GAME and if you want cards solely for investment that’s what baseball cards are for. Everyone has the right to be able to play Power 9 or vintage sets and if proxies allow people to enjoy those experiences then bravo.

      There is a company called 'Make Playing Cards' which I think a lot of people all over the world use for creating high quality proxies.
      There's even an online tool used for easily generating an order from them called 'MPC Fill' (because the process on their website might be not very easy to figure out honestly) and with it you can simply select from different proxy designs for the cards you're looking for and place an order.

    Proxies for cards you own one of or making alt art for to make a deck more on theme, fine. Its when people toss in 6-12 proxies they dont understand completely because some net deck says you cant play color x without xyz. They end up making a casual pod turn into try hard cedh real quickly.

      @@errrzarrr actually it is talking about how people feel about proxies in general. Hence my comment. Because people putting in proxies of cards they don't own and don't understand but edhrec says they are the best cards for your deck is when it's an issue. They don't understand how much power is in those cards. So when people ask them about the deck they greatly misrepresented it and now it's not fun for 3/4 of the people playing.

    • @arvinsim
      @arvinsim 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Then the issue is introducing those problematic cards then. It's not about it being proxies or not. Otherwise, it will just devolve to pay-to-win

    • @shanaeverowe9626
      @shanaeverowe9626 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arvinsim people proxy what they can't get. In a sense it's already pay to win, you either pay or have paid in the past to get the cards now of high value/rarity....or you pay someone to print you a copy. The people that don't do either are at a disadvantage because they either missed out playing and pack opening during the right time period or they don't like the process of "making cards" to fit in. Personally I proxy different arts(some I paid artist friends to make) on cards I own so that the deck fits a theme. But I have seen people start off saying oh my deck is a 4, its really casual and doesn't have too many wincons.... And then it's turn 1, mana crypt, sol ring, arcane signet, insert "tax enchantment or creature" pass. And here we are with our actually low power decks thinking, damn do any of us have a fighting chance

    Cool video! I haven't used proxies for mtg yet but in Pokemon I had the rule of only proxying cards that I own. (I like the retro formats in pokemon and running playsets of cards that cost 3 figures each is just too painful).
    Maybe I should just drop this rule in mtg though and go for it. Im relatively new to mtg and I doubt Ill ever own even a dual land because I didn't get into it early. Reserve list cards are too much for a new player to even contemplate!

      Three things are getting an organizer in trouble:
      - stealing material
      - allowing proxies in a sanctioned event
      - letting players decide the outcome of a game (possibly a game that is ending up in a tie) with some random event like a coinflip
      So, you guessed it, I put that at number two.

    I started playing magic in 94' or 95' and loved it but gave it up around 99' when it became very pay to play. Proxies would have kept me in the game and even buying cards. Getting back into it, I absolutely plan to proxy. Apparently values have gone up quite a bit and some of my cards are moving from my old binder to my safe lol. I'll proxy those for sure. I'm also not going to buy multiple high dollar cards to put in a few commander decks so I'll proxy those as well. I totally get not allowing proxies in tournaments. The " you can only proxy it if you own it" thing is okay but really, if proxies put players in chairs, that seems like the better option.

    Proxy cards that look like real cards are simply counterfeits, not good ; as a store you really dont want any of these around, as even just 1 guy trying to sell these in your store will permanently damage the reputation of the store, so thats a massive problem that should be dealt with by simply banning counterfeits outright.
    If a card has clearly a different back, and there is no way to think its a real card, thats fine.

    Or printing out a ton of cards for vintage cube drafts would be amazing as well.
    My store also lets people run proxies in their decks if they can prove they own at least 1 official copy of the card. Not everyone can afford to get a Mana Crypt to jam into each of their commander decks! lol
