Great video as always, just love all the tutorials you’re putting out. I’ve made several of your carvings but I think I got carried away with the flat plane bird and carved over 40 of them. So relaxing and easy to do. I’ll be switching to the little gnomes next. Can’t wait to get started on it. Take care and keep the 1x1 series going. We’re learning something new every time you put out a new video. Many other tutorials out there but you’re simply the best. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, sure is appreciated
Doug, I don’t understand why anyone would think they need to give a negative comment on you carving flat plain carvings. There are plenty of other videos they can watch, just go to them!
I love what you’re doing and watch every video! Keep up the 1”x1” flat plain carvings, they’re great!
Doug, I had this big ol long message to you about the " Jerk" but then I was reminded he is only doing stuff to get you upset and all, so no attention to him. Silly all he has to do is stop watching. Enjoy the 1" so much. so easy on old hands. Hope one day you do a horse ( silly one ) Hope you keep the 1" going. Maybe a update on your American Indians. love them so...... Ever make Sophie a Hair Stick? 1" carving perfect to top off.
I have just a simple one though -thanks for the gift!
Doug you taught me to carve and now I’m addicted!! Don’t let the social media vultures land on you. Do what you love cuz we love what you do. Thanks and keep positive and can’t wait for where we go!
I love your flat plan carvings and your flat plan carving are exactly what made me start to learn carving! So thank you for all of your videos!
Don't let one KNOT in the wood ruin it for the rest of us who love the 1X1 series.
Don't pay no mind to the boo birds Doug. I really enjoy your videos. The gnome doors was the one that made me think I could do it. Now I have done 16 of your carvings. Gnome doors, books, corn head dude, the hot dog, little man, couple hillbillies, snowman and more. I am just glad to be able to learn from you. Stick to your guns and do what you want to do. Dare I say I think there are many who would agree?
I am another carver that has only learnt from your tutorials and have enjoyed every minute. This little bird on the tree stump is awesome and I will be carving him for sure. You are appreciated by us all for your amazing method of teaching carving, which makes it addictive and rewarding at the same time. Thanks Doug.
Oh hell don’t stop. I love your videos and this one is one of my favorite. Thanks
Enjoy seeing you carve again. Also happy you have your little trailer when you want to be somewhere else than home to do some carving. Love the birds!! Thank You!!👍😊❤
Don’t crawl into a cave Doug. The light won’t be good enough to carve by. Well Done! Thanks!
Your carvings are always the best, keep your focus, you are making a difference. Thanks Doug.
Oh my gosh, I was literally just thinking, "I wish Doug would do a bird for the 1x1 series" and here it is!!! Thank you so much!
Hi Doug, I enjoy the time you share with us. I’m 75 now and I started carving again because of you, thanks. Keep doing the things you enjoy and ignore the negative comments. When people do this they are just being hurtful. I know what you mean about the squirrels, I feed the birds too. See you on the next adventure! Take care!
Great video Doug love these little guys, remember you are Doug the carver not Doug the caver, stay away from that cave, and we’ll let the negative commenters go into the cave, keep up the brilliant work !!!
Hey Doug, really loving your 1x1 series. So impressive for either newbies and advances carvers. Please, go ahead with this.
Do whatever makes you happy. And if you film it I'll watch it. I like your carving tutorials the best and I try to carve what I can. I'm getting better. Thanks a bunch for sharing!
The 1x1’s are awesome. I glad you’re doing videos again. I always enjoy them and learn something new. Thanks!!
Always wanted to try flat plane style. Thank you Doug for continuing to teach us online. Shaun. Chorley Lancashire UK
I love the flat plane carving and the 1x1 series. I teach the wood carving Scout Merit Badge and the flat plane is absolutely perfect for young Scouts to produce something they are proud of first try. I have stolen so many of your 1x1 carving ideas and taught the Scouts, giving you 100% credit and tell them to subscribe to your channel and continue their carving journey with you. Many do and they create amazing things. Thanks Doug.
I don't really care for the flat plane style. It seems to me to be unfinished. However, I like the way that you teach. You try to explain the project for someone who is trying to learn. I can take the lessons and then refine them as I like. You do keep the project simple and easy to follow..... and it's fun!!!!
My husband started carving because of your videos. We enjoy watching your videos and the family loves what he creates. Thank you and keep doing what you do.
I don’t think you will ever need to take this down. I loveit
Your carvings and tutorial videos are my entertainment and inspiration. That person is just jealous of you talent.
The 1X1 is my favorite!!! I hope you don’t take too long of a break from the series. And the minimalist facet carving is absolutely beautiful and exquisite. I love it!!
Thanks for sharing this, I appreciate the 1x1 series
This maybe my favorite "Doug Carve". I like the joy that I hear in your voice while you're carving these birds. The entire 1" series has been awesome therapy for me. I truly appreciate it. Thank you so much.
These are great. I love Flat Plane! and I can see them being addictive. Thanks for all your videos. You do so much work for the carving community. Glad to hear your voice is coming back.
I entirely agree with you Doug, this is a thoroughly enjoyable carve. Thank you!
Another great project Doug. I just carved along with the video and now the other end of the stick is jealous. I still consider myself a beginner. I'm 70 now and started about a year or so ago. I am convinced I would be having no where near as much fun with this new hobby if I hadn't found your videos. Thank you for doing all of this work and sharing it with us.
Love the birds! 🐦🦩🦤 Can you do a Pelican to compliment the fisherman?
Never know what may come
Thanks a lot Doug! Now you have me addicted to carving 1x1 birds! Super FUN to do!
Even if I did not like flat plain carving, as a carver I would watch the video anyhow because I always pick up something new, or something I forgot! Thanks for the video (and I do like flat plain carving).
Just getting into carving, been loving your videos. Inguess since my girlfriend is into birdwatching i should probably try a bunch of these. Thanks!
You were right, Doug! I'm addicted! My first two turned into a cardinal and a tufted titmouse. I can't wait to carve a cedar waxwing from the same basic pattern. Thanks for presenting this neat little bird.
I love the flat plane carvings! Thanks Doug!
If you are taking time out of your day to tell Doug or ANYBODY to stop making their art how they want, please go away. Far, far away.
Doug is putting out videos faster than I can carve them. Which is a good problem to have !!
I am impressed and motivated to try a bird or ten.... We have a small home decor and gift shop and every cardinal we put in the store sells. Unfortunately all of them come in resin or ceramic and made in China. I think I need to offer this style cardinal made right here in Iowa. Great inspiration Doug....
These are so good! I would love to see a real-time (not a teaching video) of you doing one of these in the walnut....I have a lot of native cherry (which is hard!) and I'd like to see the way you handle the harder woods.
Loved this video, I sure hope you never take it down.
Doug,
Love all of your 1”X1” carvings! I don’t carve, but I look forward to, and enjoy, watching you create cute characters. Please keep this series going. Thank you!
Doug, i appeciate all your videos! I'm 65 and soon to retire and just started carving. I have learned so much from your videos and i love carving. Let me know if you have to go live in that cave. I will be happy to join you!😂
I love the flat planes. I may have to carve one of these later. I've always wondered how you get your shot. Are you straddling your tripod here or do you have something clamped to the side with your camera on an arm?
Camera is clamped to desk
My youngest daughter gifted a ‘Flat Plain’ book to me and until seeing your bird video, I was not certain what the term or technique entailed. Thanks loads and nice to see the recent ‘sea faring salty’ guy too!
Doug, when you put out a video, I carve it that day. Bring on as many as you want! 🤗👍
Interesting seeing different styles. Fantastic videos. Thank you for taking YOUR time to share with all of us.
Wouldn’t it be fun to make these into whistles somehow??🤔
No way, keep them coming! Thanks!
How can anyone not love these? They're so adorable!
I've always been intimidated to carve anything other than spoons... well not anymore because I'm going to attempt these tomorrow
Fun carve. I’ll carve a bunch of these. My grandkids will love them. Thank you.
Love the little birds and your 1x1 series. I cant wait to try one. Ive been hooked on the little mushrooms lately. They are addictive, I carved a little family of them for my granddaughter.
I'm curious, can I carve one of these with a 3-inch blade carving knife? I just bought my first carving knife and some wood. I plan on doing some carving this weekend. Also, thank you for your channel! You are inspiring me and you're so calming to watch and learn.
You can but it would be difficult -my first carving was with a 4 inch bushcraft knife and once hooked immediately went knife shopping
Doug! Please don’t take down this video! It’s awesome, as all your carvings are. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. Take care
Thank you, Doug! As a young carver, you’ve really given me a lifelong hobby.
A terrific video Doug, and judging by the many, many comments, so does everyone else. Your enthusiasm is infectious!
Thanks again for showing us how to do it and will be looking forward to all you do.
I absolutely love Blue Jays…. Going to try and make one of these soon!
All your carvings are great, enjoy all your videos
Hey Doug! I have been tasked with making some woodland creatures for the wife. Going to add this one to the list. Are there any other animal carvings you've got for us? There's plenty of books out there but I prefer your videos to learn different carvings.
Go through the channel -there’s a few different ones
i'm not fully sure what a "flat plane" carving is compared to any other kind of carving - but i like everything you do! it's been a while since i've found the time to watch, but i like everything i've seen, even if it's only a thumbnail!
(i realised the flat-plane stuff is just the "low-poly" video-game look. i like it!)
Doug, you have a real gift for teaching. I really appreciate the way you explain new carving instructions in a way that all carving skill levels can master. You are the Bob Ross (a compliment) of woodcarving instruction. Thank You and keep the videos coming.
Love the bird carvings. 😁 🐦Looking forward to trying some.....got my knife with me. Very good demonstration and excellent instructions as usual. 😁😁😁🏴
I’ve converted mostly to realistic wildlife carving but I have to say that is a fantastic whittle and I will absolutely be doing one or twenty 😊
Nice simple knife only and easily applied to a hardwood staff. Thanks Doug.
I love it. I've been wanting to focus on flat planing for years, but always start over carving. The results are good, but it's really helpful to see a final flat plane product so I can keep the goal clear in my brain. Thanks for all the years!
Do NOT take this video down!
This is an awesome tutorial. I'm new to carving and this is just what I need to follow along. I'm going to have to check out the rest of your 1 x 1 series too.
Thanks Doug, Nice carve. That Walnut looks like a Jewel.
Any chance you’ve got a crow tutorial in the works? Love the variety!
i'd love a crow tutorial too
Please don't let this bomb... I LOVE the flat-plane aesthetic
Doug, nice to hear the excitement in your voice. Very nice work.
Great series. I just finished about three of your 1x1 video over the last few weeks. Since I just started carving I watched them over and over following your step. I now have 6 mountain men, four lighthouses two pumpkin head people and two pieces from another video but very similar with a V tool. Just watched the birds and I will be doing them tomorrow. I am retired and this has become my go to hobby. Question where do you get the knives you use? I bought some inexpensive ones from Amazon and made a strop but I cannot seem to get cuts like you do. Needless to say you have another loyal follower.
I try to buy from chipping away or treeline usa
@@dougLinker Thanks .
I haven't carved anything in a while but I'm going to give this one a try. Who doesn't love a bird!
Loving the 1x1 series Doug, keep them coming!!
Lol i caught that star treck refference! Thank you so much Doug! Absolutely LOVE this tutorial! ❤
Your painting skills really bring these to life!
Sir - what a GREAT little simple whittle! I'm a beginner at this hobby and you're a fantastic instructor. Thanks for your videos.
Oh, my gosh!
That carving is the most fun little thing I have ever done. I have never carved so many of the same things. Not even close!
Would you consider making more tutorials in the same spirit? Simplistic flat plane?
Both, because they are fun, and also to flip the flat planed bird to the "jerk" e-mailing you😂
Love the 1 X 1 series, as I do all your videos.
Awesome project. I’m definitely making a bunch of those.
Would really like to see your version of a squirrel 🐿️!!!! Love your videos and 1x1 series! Keep going Doug!
Love them … and the green/yellow cedar wax wing.
OMG! I cut the beak of EVERY TIME!!! Ughhhhhh. This is supposed to be relaxing but I wind up frustrated , staring at a beakless bird, with a knife in my hand.
Very nice Doug! Watched it while I was eating jerky made from your recipe!
First off, THANKS! Your teaching style fits my learning style perfectly.. Secondly, I live in Arizona with lots of ponderosa pine trees. I’ll mail you some if you want.
Such a fun, quick and nicely technical carve. Having a ton of fun carving these for Christmas ornaments. :)
Thanks Doug. You give me some relax time.. no frustations.. just the knive and the wood.
I’m not overwhelmed! I love watching you have fun, and I’m learning a lot from you, I bought a box of basswood just to try my hand at it(not a woodcarver, but play wit clay) I could sit and watch you for hours, thank you for sharing what you do😄
Wow!!
I love the simplicity of the project. I WILL be trying this. I have other ideas for wood. I'll have to show end result...
Echoing my fellow Linker TH-camrs. The 1" carving series is great. You have inspired many (heck I'm using your videos to inspire a second generation as my youngest wants to carve now, 9yrs old).
I am normally all about safety, my wife even calls me "Mr. Safety" bu I struggle with the carving glove. It could be because I have always focused on safely using a knife. Also because I have a texture aversion to gloves.
Either way, I always appreciate influencers/TH-camrs/instructors using safety gear to set a good example.
I've been carving since I was probably 5, learned from a world renowned woodcarver Ted Hanks. Aside from my more involved pieces, these types of carvings, the simple straight line, one knife carvings, just a small block of wood or materials straight from the woods to knife, I find extremely relaxing and enjoyable, and it all takes skill and talent. So if your a negative nacy I suggest you actually pick up a knife and start carving your own pieces and share them. If you were actually participating in this hobby you wouldn't have anything negative to say anyway because you'd just be a good person. Love what you do man. I hooked onto your vids trying to remember how to carve stick chickens agian, and I keep tuning in whenever I want to reset my mind, and just have fun. Send me a P.O. or something I'd love to send you a couple of pieces. Take care and thanks.
I love all your carves and time spent watching you create beautiful carves. Thankyou
Thanks for the carve!!!!! Lots of fun, very satisfying and everybody wants one.
Best wishes from Wasaga Beach ⛱️
Good job Doug ..excellent sharing how its done ..Thank you so much my man
Thanks Gene!
I never attempted anything 3 inches or under on a 1x1.
I am 6'4" so I have big paws 🐾.
I have 2 from flex cut one is 1,3/4 and the other is 3/4.
I seem to like the small mini knives better
Thank you Doug. Been watching all your carvings and have done 90% of them. Can't wait to make a few flatplane birds.
I really appreciate watching your videos and all of the advice! Have you ever tried whittling an duck feeding in the water with just the bottom half sticking up? I've been trying but have had problems with my planning of it. I would like to see you try and see what you come up with. Thank you.
Great stuff, as always, Doug. I finally pulled the trigger and ordered some wood and a little beginner knife set.
Absolutely love the 1x1. I recently started carving because of your videos and I have followed along with many of your videos and plan on doing them all. I'm glad youbare adding to the library as they are all great ideas. I love the simple carves as well as the more detailed ones. Thank you for sharing these videos. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
