I loved your idea of havig the little people standing in the grass as you walk along. I missed you very much. YOU got me interested in carving...We all love you and your wife too!
I am officially addicted to carving these 1 x 1 gnomes. In the past week, I've carved 8 of the little boogers (all new friends). Thanks Doug for your expert tutelege. Even after watching this specific video no less than 4x, I feel like I need to watch it at least 10 more times before I really learn all of the lessons you are imparting here. Again, thank you and please keep them coming. By the way, I'm a very old man with very precious time left in this world and I've chosen to split that time between learning to carve and studying my Bible. They seem to go hand in hand. Thank you again.
Nice to see you back to carving gnomes, They have been a common theme for me but there's always a new take on them to be learned. A word of warning to everyone considering doing gnomes, it's really easy to end up with an entire village of them :)
You are a Master of Perfection and confident with every cut, you make it work! You have changed my Life and gave me a purpose! Thank you Kindly Doug for all you do
YES! The first video I ever watched on wood carving was your Gnome video with the gnome book. Best Video ever! I carved a dozen of those little gnomes and now you've done it again with perfection! Your work is legendary, and you just keep raising the bar for skill and detail in a one by one. Thank you for being there for us Doug!
Doug, I'm addicted to carving gnomes and in the past month I've carved maybe 40 of these little buggers using your methods and style...until yesterday, sir. I got a little over confident and well, cocky, and deviated from your method a little and ended up slicing through my dominant thumb. Twenty-seven stitches later and a whole lot of humble pie, I'll take a few days off to examine what I did wrong and correct myself. The short version is I wore cut-resistant gloves, I used a razor sharp OCCT 1 3/4" knife and was following along for the umpteenth time when I forgot to make the stop cut while cutting back the ledge for the front of the feet. I also didn't remember to keep my body parts out of the way of a moving blade. My knife cut all the way through the wood, the glove and into the inside of my thumb to the bone. Ouch! Enough said! It was all my fault and as the saying goes, the best lessons learned sometimes come with a little pain. Anyways, say a prayer for me that I've learned this lesson well and for now, I'll watch until I heal up enough.
Thanks! Doug I been following and learning from you for 2 years. You never cease to amaze me. Got to say totally jealous about the property too! Looks like heaven. Let me know when you start “carve and camp with Doug!” Hahahah
Doug, Doug, Doug…. I have gotten away from watching for awhile…. Started just before Covid, then some life vids during Covid…. Boom, here we are 5 years later!!! Your videos, your sense of humor… your down to earth language can be for a ten year old,.. or a 54 year old (happy birthday to me). You really are inspiring. I dare say you are the Bob Ross of carving!!! I’m not making fun. What I have learned from you and the hours that I chip away often making little more than fire tinder…. It’s, I think better than therapy… Speaking of fire tinder…. Where did you get that water heating fire thermos?? Just read a comment, it’s a kelly kettle.
Another super inspirational character to carve, which I will have a go at as I do find your teaching method so easy to follow. Just finished the 1 x 1 Hillbilly and really pleased with him. Thanks for sharing your time with us.
My day gets alot brighter when I get notification of a new Linker Video!! Love the introduction as you walk by waving at all your Gnome friends!! 😅Can’t wait to give these a try, Thanks Doug!!!
Another good one! Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos. I also want to say Thanks for buying the Red Wing boots, my husband has worked there for many years.
So enjoyed this video ❤ Thank you for taking it outside and seeing you have your coffee reminded me of your older videos which I absolutely loved!!! 👍😊
Many thanks for your good ideas to carve. I am from germany and learn many things to carve with your videos. I'm new in this great hobby, thank you so much🫶
That's a cool woodstove/boiler! I like the lighter as well :) Thanks for making these tutorials for us, I really appreciate them... I made a bunch of santas & birds already with the help of your tutorials!
Thanks old man from an older man hahah. Started carving gnome from one of your videos five years ago and cam out mighty ugly but either way you sir are the master for sure. Again thanks for opening my eyes to a new world of carving. Take care
I'm watching your TH-cam video several hours after you recorded it. I love gnomes! I've got to find some 1 x 1s. My dad did a lot of woodworking and there are tons of different types of wood in his workshop! My mom's been in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation centers in the last few weeks. She's 93 years old, with congestive heart failure. She broke her right hip about a year ago and is still healing from it. I've ordered a lot of wood carving books along with my subscription to Woodcarving Illustrated. Up here in Michigan the days are getting shorter. We live at the 45th parallel.
Just bought a cheap beginner kit cant wait to put it to use I know youve heard it many times but you have inspired me to get back into widdling and carving love your tutorials
I think that is the first time i have ever heard Doug sound like "oh no" during a video. It's just a hand. Thumb or no thumb, no mistakes, just happy little accidents..lol thank you Doug for the wonderful content.
I love your videos brother, so relaxing after a long stressful day. I ordered my first whittling kit and am looking forward to following along your 1x1 series. Best!
These are great! So much detail with so few cuts. I love them. Cartoon hands typically have three fingers and a thumb. Might be a little simpler. I really like having the hands (partially) visible. This might be your best gnome carving. This is really a fun one! Thanks.
Loved the start of the video! Very fun :D I am a complete beginner (in my first 20 carvings yet) and gnomes motivated me to start, but I'm not succeeding in making them, so I am sticking to little animals and trees for now. This one looks advanced, but I will give it a go this month. And personally, you should love the ones with ears too, I certainly do, and would be cool to have a tutorial for them as well, so we have options and learn how to carve ears for even designing our own gnomes! Great video, beautiful work, lovely woods, everything perfect! Cheers!
I usually follow your videos one step at a time, pausing while I do the cuts. this time I decided to do 4 Gnomes at one time allowing me to get better with with each step. Did not number them so each one has be first at least once. Working out well.
On my way to the basement for 1x1’s and my fav carving knife….happy day…time to carve with Doug… PS….just had to get the Book of Gnomes off the shelf when I saw your vid..🙃
Thanks Doug, I loved the new techniques on the thumb and eyes. Would love to see how you put the hands behind the back in a future video. Loved your new out door studio , super cool and peaceful.
Cool guy! I had a little trouble with that eye cut. Couldn't get my knife to curve around smoothly, so it left chatter marks. It's ok, I decided he had some wrinkles around his eyes.
Doug I love following along with your videos and am working on my technique but the thing I struggled with the most are the arm chip cuts you make like you did on the pumpkin man and some of your older gnomes.
Man i get excited when i see a new linker video. You will go down in carving history man. Teacher of the masses. Everyones favorite for sure
Great video Doug !! Quick and easy !! Thanks !!!
I'm just getting started and am addicted to his personality. He is so much like myself, so I'm going to have a blast learning here.
You have the best videos, hands down.
So glad you still like doing them.
Doug, you have singlehandedly done more for the Gnome community than any other human.
he used both hands !
Loved your intro!! One gnome leads to an addiction and addiction leads to an entire village!! Great video! Time to go carve gnomes! Thanks Doug!!
I loved your idea of havig the little people standing in the grass as you walk along. I missed you very much. YOU got me interested in carving...We all love you and your wife too!

Just discovered you today! What a great teacher! Hours will be spent watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
Always impressed with your carvings. As always, I am still learning after 17 years.
doug, you have made wood carving accessible to so many curious but daunted carvers. thank you so much.

Many thanks, Doug. It's really good to see you back doing what you do best for the carving community worldwide. Much respect from the UK.

Doug I love following along with your videos and am working on my technique but the thing I struggled with the most are the arm chip cuts you make like you did on the pumpkin man and some of your older gnomes.
Super . Thanks
Nice job.
Very cool characters
You are very successful. I really want to be like you in this regard. Please add Turkish subtitles to your videos. Greetings from Turkey
