The Heritage model is Gillette testing the waters. Help us support Double Edge razors and show Gillette they need to be back in the DE Razor business full time. The Heritage model is a good razor. It's not as good as their vintage razors, but it's a giant first step. Create a demand and Gillette will get the idea. It's time to start shaving like a man

I don't want to be a downer because I was happy to see this razor made with german (muhle) head and US made handle. What I'm not happy with is they stopped this one then outsourced to China for the King C Gillette you see at drug stores for the same price. As far as I know they have no plan on making the heritage razor or any quality one again. Just chinese made for higher profits probably to make up for all they lost over their toxic masculinity ad campaign. Ok sorry rant over but I don't like what they pulled with the newest one. Just sad

I received mine yesterday, first shave was this morning, I'm super impressed!! I used a feather on its 4th and final use and no nicks, smooth, mid aggression razor. Gillette please listen to us!! We will buy! This razor sold out within the first day, that should tell you something. Mid aggression is a good way to describe it. It’s just the right amount of comfort and beard reduction. Yeah, that Barbasol lotion is great if you like the smell of the original shaving cream.
I got into safety razor shaving this year BECAUSE of that stupid commercial, and without it I never would have seen your videos (or bought the t-shirt)! I don't foresee ever spending money on their products again, but frankly, there's no need. There are so many different brands and products out there, and it's fun to try them and watch your reviews. YOU JUST MADE MY DAY !!! I also love the scent of original Barbasol. Can't wait to get that lotion. I have many artisan soaps that are slicker but choose Barbasol for its amazing smell......... This safety razor is outstanding. Frankly, I didn't expect it would be so excellent. Originally, I bought the Gillette Heritage just as a cheap traveling razor, expecting it would be too mild and little efficient; but I was completely wrong. Even though this razor is quite gentle, it's very, very efficient. I achieved a perfect BBS result in a standard three-pass shave. As an experienced user of expensive safety razors on the aggressive side, I'm really surprised how excellent even a cheap razor like this one can be. In short, I'm astonished.
Gillette is synonymous with classical heritage, all of us who love wet shaving have used a vintage Gillette and are magnificent remember the golden age, this safety razor compares it with heads of Merkur 34 c and Edwin Jagger DE 89 but I would prefer this Gillette Heritage because the classic is the classic greetings.
I got mine today. I am going to wrap it up and put it under the Christmas tree as a present for me from my Grandmother. I am very excited! I love gillette safety razors. One year she gave me Birthday money and I got a gillette fatboy. One of my favorite razors.

Looks like the Head is exactly the same as my Mühle Razor. I'll probably stick to my 1965 Slim Adjustable and my 1917 Old Type but I'll try the new Wilkinson DE Razor which my brother is really fond of.

As far as flying is concerned, you may have a safety razor in your hand luggage, but not a blade. If you are flying without checked luggage, you can still take a DE razor with you, you can still buy DE blades in many countries. SE and injector blades can be hard to get, though -- in that case, you can possibly mail a blade to the hotel you are staying in. Or you make an exception and buy a disposable razor.
Received mine in the mail today. Tried it on a one day beard growth using a Feather brand blade. The blades that came with it are the same ones I use frequently with a Merkur Futur razor. This Gillette wasn’t bad, doesn’t shave as well as the Futur but it’s not bad. I bought it mainly for a travel razor and I think it’ll fit the bill perfectly for that purpose.
You don't find it strange that: 1) there's no mention of where the razor is made on the packaging? 2) No patent # is on the package like all their other razors? 3) The box wasn't safety sealed and encased in hard to open material? 4) There' not even a Gilette logo anywhere on the razor? What kind of collector's item would be made without a logo?
@@SinatraLennon My guess is that someone did a fast Powerpoint presentation in the marketing dept. and thought they could sell a limited amount to test the waters. Just dress up a generic razor in a cheap but fancy looking Chinese made case. Not having the items listed above included is an insult to the consumer. Not shaving the chin and mustache area is a tough way to judge the shave as those areas take me the longest time to shave along with the inner parts of the neck. I have to work extra hard with the EJ DE89 type head to reach BBS level and sometimes my neck feels like it (Floid aftershave takes care of that!). This razor looks too mild for me and the packaging and presentation seem a bit chintzy. A company like P&G could have easily sold a stainless steel razor for this price and still had an excellent markup for profit.
The missing Gillette logo is really a bummer. They remembered to put the King C. Gillette signature on the case and the Gillette diamond logo inside, but they didn't bother with the razor itself. On very old Gillettes, the brand name is barely legible. They etched it in back then, and "Gillette" was written in script. At some time during the Tech era, when Gillette started to use die-cast zamac, the Gillette brand name was also put on the razor's head, except it was part of the mold and printed in all caps. On one vintage poster I saw, the Gillette diamond was highlighted, and it said: Reject all other makes. -- I wish Gillette had chosen to come up with a collector's edition of one of their historic models instead of a generic razor with a scalloped bar head, like there are literally dozens on the market already.
@@DellaStreet123 There are also many clones on Alibaba and Aliexpress from Chinese and Pakistani factories. The reason the case has the logo is because they custom ordered it, probably on the cheap, from some Chinese factory. Who really knows where those handles came from? All my Gillette cartridge razors have Gillette written on them. The Fusion has it written twice - on the handle and on the head. As I've previously written, there's no patent # listed for this and that's probably because it was slapped together from what was already available. Some Chines factory may have already had a clone mold of the vintage handle, and either it was sent to a USA factory or made over there. I don't understand why nothing in the packaging states where it was made or why an instrument to be used on the face wasn't packaged like their cartridge razors are - in impossible to break plastic, so it couldn't be touched after packing.
Received mine today. I like a longer handle, so I substituted the handle from my 3one6. I tried one of the included blades for the first pass. Changed blades to a Polsilver for the second pass, and didn’t need a third. Verdict? Not a bad razor. I wish they had put the Gillette logo on the razor. Since I already have a revamped, rhodium plated fat boy, my hope is that their next release will be a slim adjustable tribute razor. Or maybe an open comb. I don’t have an open comb razor, yet. Got mine last night. Tried shaving half my face with that and the other half with a 1940's ball end Gillette. Used the Platinum blades in both. The new one seemed smoother and seemed to cut just as well, if not a touch closer. Really like the new razor. Might have to try the blades in some of my other razors.
@@SinatraLennon The case was made in China. Assuming Muhle's are really made in Germany, that's where the head was supposed to be made. The Chinese and Pakistani factories issue very close clones and Alibaba has handles (stainless steel, too) for $1 to $2 in bulk. According to the B&B forum, the handle here isn't stainless steel. It would be interesting if you bought one of these from the links below and compared it to this one. These are the bulk wholesale prices. The head is either a 89 head (Edwin Jagger and Mühle share the patent and sell the razors as EJ89 and R89 respectively) or a Chinese knock-off. I would have to look at it closely to tell. The Chinese heads don't have a bad geometry, it just diverges a bit from the original. But they have the same Achilles heel all Zamak razors share: The screw in the middle, which is prone to breakage, either with or without previous rot. There's countless photos on Amazon, taken by disappointed buyers, and many complaints on Badger&Blade: My Edwin Jagger/Mühle/Merkur, Parker (add whatever Zamak razor) broke. -- Mühle switched to using brass screws and claim the problem has been fixed. Brass definitely doesn't break that easily, but I'm not entirely convinced the problem has been fixed because I'm unsure how the brass screw attaches to the Zamak plate. If it has been soldered in place, the sold could break, sold is notorious for doing so, I experienced this with other consumer goods. Which brings up a new point: A safety razor is a consumer good, not an heirloom, as some people expect it to be. They hail from a time where things were built to last, but not necessarily a lifetime. Look at vintage cars: There are 100 year-old Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost automobiles around, but those that are still in great condition are so because they weren't driven each and every day for the past 100 years. This doesn't mean that they were shoddily-built, on the contrary, Silver Ghosts were used by pith helmet wearing colonialists in the African desert. But they weren't meant to stay in function until the Sun turns into a White Giant. There is a vintage poster featuring King C. Gillette, persuading straight razor users to try the Gillette razor, and he claimed that his razor lasts a lifetime. But, to be honest, when people were talking about a lifetime in 1911, they didn't mean 100+ years, more likely 70. Gillette himself made it to 77, which was above average at that time. Shave off (pun inevitable) the years of a human male's life during which he doesn't need to shave (roughly 15 years) and you have 55 years. A well-made brass safety razor should last that long, but sooner or later even a brass razor will disintegrate. There are some really ratty Gillette Old Types on eBay -- their lack of appeal is topped by the moldy velvet of their cases that often come with broken hinges. In theory, you can still make a razor like that shave-ready again. Exchange a split down its length handle with a contemporary one, get the gunk off, replace the baseplate if necessary, and voila, you have a Frankenrazor. But there is one thing to keep in mind if you want to fit a vintage razor with a new handle: Most modern handles you can buy from places like Maggard razors use a 5M threading, which is the standard now. The Gillette company did not use the metric system when they built their three- or two-piece razors. A handle with 5 M may or may not fit, it depends on how worn-down the threading on the vintage Gillette is.
I have a collection of numerous vintage Gillette TTO razors, all of which are over half a century old. I use them regularly in my rotation. Kept clean and lubricated with mineral oil, they will easily outlast my generation and very likely the next.
@@nicetna2010 Vintage TTOs are beautiful and functional. But make sure not to overdo it with the oil -- gun enthusiasts are notorious for this, and I know of some people who oiled their guns to death.
The head it's pretty similar with the EJ DE 89, got one and I love it. Hope a new era start with safety razors from Gillette and they can put the old classics on the market again. Great video as always. Cheers

I just got this razor and I was excited it was the R89 head, I love that head. This was a great shave, and the case is fantastic. I have read the handle is made in Murica so I am sticking with that. This will be the razor I travel with. Great review, great razor.

If anyone ever decides to buy this,have a M5 Nylon Washer because theres a lot of defects out there that the handle won’t screw all the way in or it won’t tighten all the way so you’ll need something to help fill the Gap or if you have a different handle than that could work too

Looks (and costs) about the same as my Merkur .... who knows might pick one up some time. I just got a Weishi I have to try out, got it for the gullwing open because I'm nostalgic for the old days.
I have one and while it is the same shape, it is a bit smaller and lighter than my EJ89. This makes it more maneuverable, especially under my nose. Enjoyed it so far.

I hate cartridge razors ever since I tried shaving with a safety razor I just love the safety razor gives me a clean shave and no skin irritations even though I'm using a cheap safety razor I just love the shave.

I think they are test the waters, but I do not think they will make an adjustable anytime soon. Also P&G has more competition with cartridge razors today. Releasing the Heritage is good way they can still stay in the market selling D.E. blades. I would think they might bring out a TTO before introducing an adjustable.

So SL, what’s the deal on why you can’t find the heritage any more, if it was only released last year. I know the KCG is out now at Walgreens but the Heritage doesn’t seem to be available anywhere anymore. Doesn’t even look like any wet shavers have decided to eBay one already, they’re all holding on to it! Do you think Gillette decided to completely replace it with the KCG, or was it always intended to be a limited edition? Seems like they could sell both at the same time?
Gillette doesn’t care about safety razor users. It’s all about profit. There nobody there that remembers how to make safety razors, only plastic ones. They are competing with very small company’s that make the real stuff and pushing them out of business, using they’re monopoly in the multi blade market. That was their practice and it’s not going to change. I have the original EJ89. It’s a beautiful razor. Don’t need another one.
Is there any specific reason you don't own an Edwin Jagger? I just ordered a DE89 as my first safety razor and I trust your shaving advice after watching many of your entertaining videos.
I was going to buy a more aggressive safety razor, because my Microtouch one broke and thought that I should 1 up it. I was thinking of purchasing the Merkur 34c, but now that I came across this I'm debating about it. Which would you say is more aggressive the Merkur 34c or this new Gillette Heritage razor?
Nice looking razor. I currently have two 3 piece razors. The Feather AS-D2 and a Gillette Tech fat handle pre war from the late 1930s early 40s. I definitely need to give this a whirl. I doubt Gillette made the heritage razor to make up for their commercial, but I'm glad they made it. I didn't swear them off, but I didn't care for their "toxic masculinity" misnomer, either. Behavior like that is just toxic, not masculine, because a real man doesn't act like that.
You are correct. The interview that Shavologist had with Gillette confirmed the handle is made in the US, the head in Germany, and the blades in Russia.
@@mikeisgettinupset I'd like to know where in the USA the handle was made considering Gillette probably sold their equipment and factories long ago. They had to subcontract it out to someone and somewhere. Shaveologist probably spoke to some of the young whippersnappers from the company who are more concerned with their "Linked In" profiles than the history of Gillette. There's got to be a reason why it doesn't state on the packaging where the razor was made and why the box wasn't even sealed. When part of something is made in the USA, the packaging proudly states as such. All of Gillette's cartridge razors state the country of origin and are packed in impenetrable plastic that needs a knife of scissor to open. With the razor being some sort of Zamac alloy and the case being made in China, the markup on this thing is enormous.
@@shave-a-thon3415 don't underestimate zamac. Even a zamac razor will last you a lifetime. Its nice to see Gillette making a DE razor again, now if only they would make a tto razor. Wilkinson sword launched their tto last year, and i must say the quality rivals that of the super speeds even though its made in China. It isnt quite as good as the quality of an aristocrat though.
@@matthewolivier2883 The Zamac will last assuming you don't drop it too often. The chrome plating will chip. I've also seen photos of shavers posting their broken top cap threads. Gillette adjustables in 1960 went for about $2 and that was either steel or another strong metal. $2 in 1960 is $17.35 in 2019 dollars. The markup on this razor and case was probably close to 2,000%. Without a logo, patent #, statements of where it was made on the packaging, no protective seal, and no real R&D or advertising costs, I find this to be a very questionable buy. I certainly don't need another DE89. It's too much work to get a BBS shave with one.
Still on the fence. I love my ‘65 Gillette slim, and have a super speed. I’m not sure I need another “hunk of metal” lying around when I got 2 that will last my lifetime. Thanks for the review, gives me something to think about

The only problem with that razor is it's Gillette.I've never tried a Gillette DE blade or any blade connected to that company.It was that advert that got me into DE shaving.So thanks Gillette.I've got a fatboy and a slim because they're old and Gillette didn't get my money.They will never get another penny out of me.I'm funny like that.Great vid mate.

@@talega1 Never tried Astra or Polsylver.I research every blade methodically before i purchase and none have anything to do with p&g.There are many blades that are connected to them.I don't use any of their products at all including washing up liquid,air fresheners etc.As i say they'll never get another penny from me.
But they couldn't produce a 195 and sell it for $1.95 nowadays. The Gillette "blade holders" up til this day were always subsidized by blade sells, their purpose being to increase blade sells. There's no money in selling DE blades anymore. Today it would probably cost more around $60-$90 at least (just a wild guess). But maybe Sheldon Quinn from Global Shave Club will succeed with his replika versions - Repli Speed and Fat Guy: globalshaveclub.com/coming_soon Christmas... yikes.

From the FAQ: Will there be any re-issues of previously released models (like the Superspeed)? At this time there are no plans to re-issue any previously released double edge safety razor models. This is currently the first Double Edge razor set sold by Gillette in the US since the late 1980s.
Key words being "at this time". That's just corporate speak, meaning they could very well re-issue in the future. And if the overwhelmingly positive response (delayed deliveries from heavy demand) of the Heritage is any indication, I wouldn't be surprised to see another DE razor offering from Gillette.

@@michaelyoung2685 In light of the renaissance DE wetshaving is currently experiencing, Gillette still owns the most recognized name brand in the world of shaving. They already have the largest in-class existing customer base, then couple with that customers switching over from cartridges, and then newcomers to wetshaving. Now consider Gillette is owned by a conglomerate, always in search of increasing earnings and profits (P & G). Easy decision from where I sit.

I own the 34c and a Mühle R89... not much difference between the two. I always found the 89 head to be a tiny bit more aggressive. YMMV. The Gillette heritage handle looks nice though and it's a three piece which I think is better for traveling and easier to clean.
Nice review! But the head is made there where the R89 head is coming from. No, not Edwin Jagger England, Mühle Germany! They don´t say it is made by Mühle but "Made in Germany"...so i guess it is made from Mühle. The handle is from the US, the blades from Russia and the Case from China. I received mine yesterday, first shave was this morning, I'm super impressed!! I used a feather on its 4th and final use and no nicks, smooth, mid aggression razor. Gillette please listen to us!! We will buy! This razor sold out within the first day, that should tell you something. Mid aggression is a good way to describe it. It’s just the right amount of comfort and beard reduction. Yeah, that Barbasol lotion is great if you like the smell of the original shaving cream.
I got into safety razor shaving this year BECAUSE of that stupid commercial, and without it I never would have seen your videos (or bought the t-shirt)!
I don't foresee ever spending money on their products again, but frankly, there's no need. There are so many different brands and products out there, and it's fun to try them and watch your reviews.

This safety razor is outstanding. Frankly, I didn't expect it would be so excellent. Originally, I bought the Gillette Heritage just as a cheap traveling razor, expecting it would be too mild and little efficient; but I was completely wrong. Even though this razor is quite gentle, it's very, very efficient. I achieved a perfect BBS result in a standard three-pass shave. As an experienced user of expensive safety razors on the aggressive side, I'm really surprised how excellent even a cheap razor like this one can be. In short, I'm astonished.
Gillette is synonymous with classical heritage, all of us who love wet shaving have used a vintage Gillette and are magnificent remember the golden age, this safety razor compares it with heads of Merkur 34 c and Edwin Jagger DE 89 but I would prefer this Gillette Heritage because the classic is the classic greetings.
They should try to recapture their Golden Era razors now.

One day I may try a safety razor. Is it hard to travel with a double edge safety razor though? Cool that Gillette is bringing one back.
As far as flying is concerned, you may have a safety razor in your hand luggage, but not a blade. If you are flying without checked luggage, you can still take a DE razor with you, you can still buy DE blades in many countries. SE and injector blades can be hard to get, though -- in that case, you can possibly mail a blade to the hotel you are staying in. Or you make an exception and buy a disposable razor.
You can carry on the blades. Keep them checked or buy some wherever you’re going.

Received mine in the mail today. Tried it on a one day beard growth using a Feather brand blade. The blades that came with it are the same ones I use frequently with a Merkur Futur razor. This Gillette wasn’t bad, doesn’t shave as well as the Futur but it’s not bad. I bought it mainly for a travel razor and I think it’ll fit the bill perfectly for that purpose.
It’s a great travel razor. I hate bringing my vintage Gillettes for fear of losing them. This one? Just let it go.

You don't find it strange that:
1) there's no mention of where the razor is made on the packaging?
2) No patent # is on the package like all their other razors?
3) The box wasn't safety sealed and encased in hard to open material?
4) There' not even a Gilette logo anywhere on the razor? What kind of collector's item would be made without a logo?

@@SinatraLennon My guess is that someone did a fast Powerpoint presentation in the marketing dept. and thought they could sell a limited amount to test the waters. Just dress up a generic razor in a cheap but fancy looking Chinese made case. Not having the items listed above included is an insult to the consumer. Not shaving the chin and mustache area is a tough way to judge the shave as those areas take me the longest time to shave along with the inner parts of the neck. I have to work extra hard with the EJ DE89 type head to reach BBS level and sometimes my neck feels like it (Floid aftershave takes care of that!). This razor looks too mild for me and the packaging and presentation seem a bit chintzy. A company like P&G could have easily sold a stainless steel razor for this price and still had an excellent markup for profit.
The missing Gillette logo is really a bummer. They remembered to put the King C. Gillette signature on the case and the Gillette diamond logo inside, but they didn't bother with the razor itself. On very old Gillettes, the brand name is barely legible. They etched it in back then, and "Gillette" was written in script. At some time during the Tech era, when Gillette started to use die-cast zamac, the Gillette brand name was also put on the razor's head, except it was part of the mold and printed in all caps. On one vintage poster I saw, the Gillette diamond was highlighted, and it said: Reject all other makes. -- I wish Gillette had chosen to come up with a collector's edition of one of their historic models instead of a generic razor with a scalloped bar head, like there are literally dozens on the market already.
@@DellaStreet123 There are also many clones on Alibaba and Aliexpress from Chinese and Pakistani factories. The reason the case has the logo is because they custom ordered it, probably on the cheap, from some Chinese factory. Who really knows where those handles came from? All my Gillette cartridge razors have Gillette written on them. The Fusion has it written twice - on the handle and on the head. As I've previously written, there's no patent # listed for this and that's probably because it was slapped together from what was already available. Some Chines factory may have already had a clone mold of the vintage handle, and either it was sent to a USA factory or made over there. I don't understand why nothing in the packaging states where it was made or why an instrument to be used on the face wasn't packaged like their cartridge razors are - in impossible to break plastic, so it couldn't be touched after packing.
Received mine today. I like a longer handle, so I substituted the handle from my 3one6. I tried one of the included blades for the first pass. Changed blades to a Polsilver for the second pass, and didn’t need a third. Verdict? Not a bad razor. I wish they had put the Gillette logo on the razor. Since I already have a revamped, rhodium plated fat boy, my hope is that their next release will be a slim adjustable tribute razor. Or maybe an open comb. I don’t have an open comb razor, yet. Got mine last night. Tried shaving half my face with that and the other half with a 1940's ball end Gillette. Used the Platinum blades in both. The new one seemed smoother and seemed to cut just as well, if not a touch closer. Really like the new razor. Might have to try the blades in some of my other razors.

@@SinatraLennon The case was made in China. Assuming Muhle's are really made in Germany, that's where the head was supposed to be made. The Chinese and Pakistani factories issue very close clones and Alibaba has handles (stainless steel, too) for $1 to $2 in bulk. According to the B&B forum, the handle here isn't stainless steel. It would be interesting if you bought one of these from the links below and compared it to this one. These are the bulk wholesale prices. You can probably find it being sold retail on Aliexpress.com as well as the re-branded models from some shaving retailers. Scan down the pages to see their other offerings:

The head is either a 89 head (Edwin Jagger and Mühle share the patent and sell the razors as EJ89 and R89 respectively) or a Chinese knock-off. I would have to look at it closely to tell. The Chinese heads don't have a bad geometry, it just diverges a bit from the original. But they have the same Achilles heel all Zamak razors share: The screw in the middle, which is prone to breakage, either with or without previous rot. There's countless photos on Amazon, taken by disappointed buyers, and many complaints on Badger&Blade: My Edwin Jagger/Mühle/Merkur, Parker (add whatever Zamak razor) broke. -- Mühle switched to using brass screws and claim the problem has been fixed. Brass definitely doesn't break that easily, but I'm not entirely convinced the problem has been fixed because I'm unsure how the brass screw attaches to the Zamak plate. If it has been soldered in place, the sold could break, sold is notorious for doing so, I experienced this with other consumer goods. Which brings up a new point: A safety razor is a consumer good, not an heirloom, as some people expect it to be. They hail from a time where things were built to last, but not necessarily a lifetime. Look at vintage cars: There are 100 year-old Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost automobiles around, but those that are still in great condition are so because they weren't driven each and every day for the past 100 years. This doesn't mean that they were shoddily-built, on the contrary, Silver Ghosts were used by pith helmet wearing colonialists in the African desert. But they weren't meant to stay in function until the Sun turns into a White Giant. There is a vintage poster featuring King C. Gillette, persuading straight razor users to try the Gillette razor, and he claimed that his razor lasts a lifetime. But, to be honest, when people were talking about a lifetime in 1911, they didn't mean 100+ years, more likely 70. Gillette himself made it to 77, which was above average at that time. Shave off (pun inevitable) the years of a human male's life during which he doesn't need to shave (roughly 15 years) and you have 55 years. A well-made brass safety razor should last that long, but sooner or later even a brass razor will disintegrate. There are some really ratty Gillette Old Types on eBay -- their lack of appeal is topped by the moldy velvet of their cases that often come with broken hinges. In theory, you can still make a razor like that shave-ready again. Exchange a split down its length handle with a contemporary one, get the gunk off, replace the baseplate if necessary, and voila, you have a Frankenrazor. But there is one thing to keep in mind if you want to fit a vintage razor with a new handle: Most modern handles you can buy from places like Maggard razors use a 5M threading, which is the standard now. The Gillette company did not use the metric system when they built their three- or two-piece razors. A handle with 5 M may or may not fit, it depends on how worn-down the threading on the vintage Gillette is.

I have a collection of numerous vintage Gillette TTO razors, all of which are over half a century old. I use them regularly in my rotation. Kept clean and lubricated with mineral oil, they will easily outlast my generation and very likely the next.

I just got this razor and I was excited it was the R89 head, I love that head. This was a great shave, and the case is fantastic. I have read the handle is made in Murica so I am sticking with that. This will be the razor I travel with. Great review, great razor.

If anyone ever decides to buy this,have a M5 Nylon Washer because theres a lot of defects out there that the handle won’t screw all the way in or it won’t tighten all the way so you’ll need something to help fill the Gap or if you have a different handle than that could work too

I have one and while it is the same shape, it is a bit smaller and lighter than my EJ89. This makes it more maneuverable, especially under my nose. Enjoyed it so far.

I hate cartridge razors ever since I tried shaving with a safety razor I just love the safety razor gives me a clean shave and no skin irritations even though I'm using a cheap safety razor I just love the shave.

I think they are test the waters, but I do not think they will make an adjustable anytime soon. Also P&G has more competition with cartridge razors today. Releasing the Heritage is good way they can still stay in the market selling D.E. blades. I would think they might bring out a TTO before introducing an adjustable.
Gillette platinum blades are my go to blades now a days. Sharp and smooth. I think you will like them when you try them.

So SL, what’s the deal on why you can’t find the heritage any more, if it was only released last year. I know the KCG is out now at Walgreens but the Heritage doesn’t seem to be available anywhere anymore. Doesn’t even look like any wet shavers have decided to eBay one already, they’re all holding on to it! Do you think Gillette decided to completely replace it with the KCG, or was it always intended to be a limited edition? Seems like they could sell both at the same time?

There nobody there that remembers how to make safety razors, only plastic ones.
They are competing with very small company’s that make the real stuff and pushing them out of business, using they’re monopoly in the multi blade market.
That was their practice and it’s not going to change.

I was thinking of purchasing the Merkur 34c, but now that I came across this I'm debating about it. Which would you say is more aggressive the Merkur 34c or this new Gillette Heritage razor?

I doubt Gillette made the heritage razor to make up for their commercial, but I'm glad they made it. I didn't swear them off, but I didn't care for their "toxic masculinity" misnomer, either. Behavior like that is just toxic, not masculine, because a real man doesn't act like that.

You are correct. The interview that Shavologist had with Gillette confirmed the handle is made in the US, the head in Germany, and the blades in Russia.
@@mikeisgettinupset I'd like to know where in the USA the handle was made considering Gillette probably sold their equipment and factories long ago. They had to subcontract it out to someone and somewhere. Shaveologist probably spoke to some of the young whippersnappers from the company who are more concerned with their "Linked In" profiles than the history of Gillette. There's got to be a reason why it doesn't state on the packaging where the razor was made and why the box wasn't even sealed. When part of something is made in the USA, the packaging proudly states as such. All of Gillette's cartridge razors state the country of origin and are packed in impenetrable plastic that needs a knife of scissor to open. With the razor being some sort of Zamac alloy and the case being made in China, the markup on this thing is enormous.
@@shave-a-thon3415 don't underestimate zamac. Even a zamac razor will last you a lifetime. Its nice to see Gillette making a DE razor again, now if only they would make a tto razor. Wilkinson sword launched their tto last year, and i must say the quality rivals that of the super speeds even though its made in China. It isnt quite as good as the quality of an aristocrat though.
@@matthewolivier2883 The Zamac will last assuming you don't drop it too often. The chrome plating will chip. I've also seen photos of shavers posting their broken top cap threads. Gillette adjustables in 1960 went for about $2 and that was either steel or another strong metal. $2 in 1960 is $17.35 in 2019 dollars. The markup on this razor and case was probably close to 2,000%. Without a logo, patent #, statements of where it was made on the packaging, no protective seal, and no real R&D or advertising costs, I find this to be a very questionable buy. I certainly don't need another DE89. It's too much work to get a BBS shave with one.
Still on the fence. I love my ‘65 Gillette slim, and have a super speed. I’m not sure I need another “hunk of metal” lying around when I got 2 that will last my lifetime. Thanks for the review, gives me something to think about

You are missing on the better blades. But I guess you can get Astra or Polsylver and still donate your money to Procto-Bamble
@@talega1 Never tried Astra or Polsylver.I research every blade methodically before i purchase and none have anything to do with p&g.There are many blades that are connected to them.I don't use any of their products at all including washing up liquid,air fresheners etc.As i say they'll never get another penny from me.

I think they’re done with it as far as I know. Now they sell the King Gillette at Walgreens.
They should have reissued the Fatboy instead of this razor IMHO. The Fatboy was one of the best razors ever produced.
Maybe this is Gillette testing the market. Seeing if there’s a demand. There is!
But they couldn't produce a 195 and sell it for $1.95 nowadays. The Gillette "blade holders" up til this day were always subsidized by blade sells, their purpose being to increase blade sells. There's no money in selling DE blades anymore.
Today it would probably cost more around $60-$90 at least (just a wild guess).
But maybe Sheldon Quinn from Global Shave Club will succeed with his replika versions - Repli Speed and Fat Guy: globalshaveclub.com/coming_soon

Definitely a safety razor. They are much easier and give you a great shave.

Key words being "at this time". That's just corporate speak, meaning they could very well re-issue in the future. And if the overwhelmingly positive response (delayed deliveries from heavy demand) of the Heritage is any indication, I wouldn't be surprised to see another DE razor offering from Gillette.

@@nicetna2010 I guess never say never, but I just don't see Gillette flooding the market with safety razors and cutting into their selling 16 Fusion cartridges for $35.00 On Amazon it says LIMITED QUANTITY. Now is that BS to sell more, or they are only going to sell a limited number.

They already have the largest in-class existing customer base, then couple with that customers switching over from cartridges, and then newcomers to wetshaving. Now consider Gillette is owned by a conglomerate, always in search of increasing earnings and profits (P & G). Easy decision from where I sit.

If just for the case alone, yes!
I own the 34c and a Mühle R89... not much difference between the two. I always found the 89 head to be a tiny bit more aggressive. YMMV.
The Gillette heritage handle looks nice though and it's a three piece which I think is better for traveling and easier to clean.

I prefer butterfly razors because you have less to mess with. Also, you touch the blade less.
Nice review! But the head is made there where the R89 head is coming from. No, not Edwin Jagger England, Mühle Germany! They don´t say it is made by Mühle but "Made in Germany"...so i guess it is made from Mühle. The handle is from the US, the blades from Russia and the Case from China. Nice world wide cooperation :-) Glad it served you well!!
