soobeanie_ idol Insider about how their social media is managed. For example when do they can have own accounts, what are they allowed to post and what happens to their social media they had before being a trainee ?
Okay real talk I have some serious questions about a specific topic: cash monies $$ cha-ching! Nothing personal though, only technical questions about how it works. I always wondered how salary works. Like for an indie rock band for example, the members will split the profit, or agree to make a bank account for the group and pick from that to buy things directly related to the group like buying a van for touring or better equipment for recording, etc. Idol groups obviously work very differently, but I can't see the mathematical logic between these 2 examples: Group A has 4 members, Group B has 8 members. Both groups have the same kind of popularity, they bring in the same profit per year. Does each member of Group A get paid more from the split? Or is there a fixed salary per contract which means members of Group A and Group B are paid the same. If they are all paid the same it means there is extra money floating from the Group A since less total money is given to members, where does that money go? It just seems to me like there is not really a "fair" case either way. Are all members paid the exact same? For example is the leader paid more or a member who does a lot of extra stuff for the company would they be paid more or is that just considered "part of their job" on the contract? If a member has obviously more lines or is the center, are they paid more? Groups who hire a choreographer obviously have to paid this person, but if a member of the group makes the choreography, is that member getting paid the same? If a main dancer has extra task of teaching the dance to other members, are they getting paid for this? If a marketing company wants to hire an idol to make a CF or advertisement, do they have to go through the company and does the idol get all the profit or does the company take a cut, by virtue of "owning the idol", without even participating in this project? Are members salary based on % of profit? Is it a fixed number? Can that number change every year to reflect the growth of the group? Is it possible to get a raise? Or the opposite, would a bad year mean getting paid less for that year? Does the amount of work in a year affect total yearly salary at all? Does yearly profit affect that? Or does salary stays the same until an "official revision" or something like that? I'm aware of the "debt" idols have to repay to their company but if the company takes every profit for that, considering a group that takes a while to become profitable, all that time it takes to become big enough there's more stuff to pay every month, is it just adding up to the total debt, making it even longer to pay off? Are idols getting paid a little while paying off the debt or are they extremely dependent on their company? What if a group never becomes profitable? Is it just the company losing their gamble or do idols have to pay something on top of already being broke from not even being able to pay off the debt? On the contract we often hear about what the idols have to do or what they are not allowed to do, are there things the company has to do? I've heard of problem with companies not fulfilling their contract like Minzy's recent issues. What happens at the end of a contract? If there was money saved up for some plans for the group, is that all spend on the last project/album or what? Realistically even after a group's contract is done, they can still sell albums, how is that money distributed? Do idols see any of this post-contract money or do they get a one time "contract done" bonus and whatever sells after that goes to the company? I know that's a lot, but that's been on my mind forever. If you could have Ashley weigh in on this like a duo idol insider that would be amazing since some of these questions are basically situations happening to her right now or have happened very recently. I love seeing you popping up in her vlogs lol. Bonus questions (because this wall of text is not big enough I know): In the cases of groups changing members, how does that work? Like CLC and Dreamcatcher adding 2 new members after a while, is it just the company taking the risk of adding more members and paying them the same, or is the "group pay" a big pool that is now split more ways meaning the original members are now paid less? If it's a fixed pay, are new members paid less than the original members kinda like in a "normal job" where years of experience mean higher salary? What about a case like BOL4, Jiyoon leaving, is Jiyoung now paid more, not just based on the "split" idea but also because she will most likely have to do more things by herself now. More work should mean more money, right?
Idol insider about do trainees and idols go to therapist for their mental health ? And do kpop companies force idols to dye/bleach their hair eventually ?
SNSD’s managers are mostly males, they only have a few female managers, but they still kept a close relationship with them nonetheless. They recently reunited and sang at a manager’s wedding and I think that’s precious. 🥺 Maybe it really depends upon the group’s dynamics.
Also twice and apink are close with both their male and female managers. It just depends if the members and the managers are sociable or not.(momo did couple of vlive with their managers teaching them yes or yes and fancy and it is so funny)

The choreographer will receive the song in advance, when the choreo is made they'll send it to the company for approval, sometimes its a mix of different choreographers like RV - Psycho, or they could take the choreo as is like Mamamoo - Gogobebe. They usually have a few days - a week to learn it (Twice-Fancy took 3 days if I'm not wrong, Cherry Bullet-Hands up took 1 week I think). They could learn the dance from the actual choreographers, (Mamamoo learned Hip with Minny Park & Lia Kim at their company studio), or it's possible to learn the dance from the sample video and get approval and make changes as needed (sometimes the choreo is too intense to sing it at the same time). Why? Whats the difference between sharing a room with a member and manager? I'm sure they've gotten close with some of the managers over the years, they spend almost every day together
@@afya7595 This is just personal preference and opinion. Everyone feels different about it. For me it would be like sharing a room with your sibling (member) or sharing a room with your dad (manager). Once again, everyone is different. I'm sure they have gotten close to their managers and spend every day together and maybe that's also a reason why some people might feel that they DON'T want to share a room with their manager.
I could never share a room with a manager, no matter how close we are. At the end of the day, no amount of closeness can change the fact that they are your manager and their job is to watch what you're doing. Just knowing that would turn me off so bad ugh I want privacy in bed, I want it to be the time of day where I can fully relax with my members or alone. Not having to STILL be under the watch of my manager. What if I am dating and want to text my bf or wanting to talk to my members about something personal? In my opinion, managers shouldn't be able to sleep in the same room as members so they can have that privacy. On god, I'd go mad in that situation.
One of EXO's managers recently said that they have 8 managers total, even though there are currently only 6 active members (that was before Suho enlisted)
Tbh it really isn’t that old to be 30 and be a manager since the majority of managers tend to be in their 40s to 50s so around that pre retirement age.
@@raygin6581 she did say some tend to be same age or older, but then she said "there are a lot of old managers too, I would say like 30s and some even late 30s, 40s..."
11:41 I've always wondered what happens to extra gifts. I don't think every instance of sharing gifts with managers is coming from manipulation. Especially if the gift is food, and a lot of it, it might just be shared with the staff so it doesn't go bad. Idols do receive a lot of gifts, so I would understand that scenario!
This driving situation just brought me a really bad memory and a terrible accident. I wish that companies will really take the scheduling into consideration because for real, LIVES are at stake. I just really have to pause right there and write this thought.
Id love if you could do a video about the debt that kpop trainees go through like how much debt they are in, ways that the debt is built up, etc. Love your vids btw 🥺❤️
I have so much admiration for managers because they shoulder so much responsibilities and devote their lives so much to work. You really need a specific kind of personality to both be well organized and be good at making things happen smoothly. I could never handle the stress and pressure required.
hes not nice at all, he just stole a billion money to lisa since debut but the money is not really the big deal, its all about the trust that lisa gave to him, im really disappointed to that manager, hays:(((
@@ygjunghwaaan1207 Yes, wow, I was just reading about that on twitter. Poor Lisa, she must have felt so shocked and hurt. He was like her Korean big brother and he betrayed her trust like that. It's horrible.
back in yr7, when i was a hardcore kpop fan, i thought working on exo's team would be a dream job. but then i learnt about how fucking hard of a job being an idol manager really is. it's really nice to hear idols and managers having close relationships
Hi, so I'm really curious about the 'ship' thing in every idol groups. Is it really pure for fan service or they really have the good chemistry or there was 'something' in there?
I’m sure that there are some relationships in groups, but most of it is probably fan service. Also everyone is different, I have friends who are really affectionate so that could be the case for some idols too.
Hmm make sense. I also wondering if they watched their pairing edits on youtube. Like are they just gonna okay with that or felt disgusted or uncomfortable with their pairs. Haha I'm so curious
@jeonghan x yoongi Groping isn't actually a big deal though and I don't think its fan service. I've seen korean boys grab e/o's butts in a joking manner.
Hey,Soobeanie I wanted to say thanks to you for making this type of videos. Because it's actually really important to talk about this Idol related stuff. It’s so amazing how she appreciates the work that managers do. Mostly people just focus on idols and nobody really cares how muuch work the staff puts in 👏🏼
I am studying in the same field as the manager, a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management I chose this field because this is suit to my personality for it's not exhausting at all I don't know when I am exhausted I know how to cope it up in just short amount of time I am organized, empathetic and understanding type of person, I can work under a lot of pressure and still be organized I found that out because college life is very stressful but I still manage to be sociable and having a good grade at the same time my personality is INFJ. I don't know sometimes I feel different from other people but I think I am gifted for having this kind of personality, I can be introvert and sociable at the same time, so it's not exhausting at all I think I will become a good manager in the near future, being a manager in the kpop industry is my dream but for now that's impossible.
people gotta live their own lives, right? They can't be chasing idols all the time lol For real, though, I think idols will probably pick quieter, smaller, areas to film in when there's not too much traffic. Or, like I said, their fans are busy doing their own thing like running errands, going to school, going to work, etc. I'm not an idol, though, so I can be wrong.
@민지 wow thanks for commenting! I was actually starting to believe that idols dont really go out or take walks around the streets😂😂😂 im glad they can go outside without being disrupted or followed/stalked.
Sometimes I think it would be great to see more Artists collaborate and form their own agencies, as they know what they need to feel safe and good, what they need from their managers, and what limits there needs to be for everything to mesh well. Everyone needs a bit of space, and since the manager-artist relationship needs to be professional, it can't be babysitting.
that's so difficult to do since managing your own agency takes a business mind, and most artists are creative minded. those skills are as different to each other as math is to dancing. they'd have to find an incredible team, as the schedule of a working artist doesn't allow them to do all that managerial work at the same time. massive props to jay park and psy for establishing their own labels
This was really interesting! It would be so interesting to hear a manager's perspective on their job too. How they liked the job, what were their hardships or fun stories 😀 Maybe one day a retired manager will do a video like this 😊
me lol. I mean i think ppl only find it fun because theyre often thinking about it being a party everyday while youre able to be close to their fav idols. But i see it as a job where you need to take care of someone who might be a dick, and not having much social life cuz youre a phone call away from ending that date or whatever youre doing to go look after the group or the artist.
I know it's just like being a nanny for the idol. You take care of literally making sure they're on schedule, they not lost, plan their time just so much
sad thinking that lisa’s manager and jennie’s bodyguard are not working with them anymore 😭 (i had written this before that news of lisa’s manager.... this is how much we liked him)
I agree that what the relationship/connection between the idol and manager is like depends on if the manager is sociable or not. I think it could also depend on what the idol is like. I also agree that the more strict a company is the more an idol will lie and/or do things without telling the company.
At first viewing, “Manager” sounds more like Go-fer or Assistant, where you’re just following them around waiting for an opportunity to do something for them like go get take out or pick up dry cleaning.🤔
I noticed that. They aren’t actually managers by western definitions. Maybe chauffeur/personal assistant. I’m still trying to figure this one out. Sounds like an overinflated job title 😂.
They also have to make sure their idol maintains their image on camera, meets schedules, interacts with broadcasting companies for them, accompany them in public settings, you know M A N A G E them. It’s a combination of your work manager and a personal assistant, and every company and group has different ways their managers take part in their lives. Some are far more strict and others are like family.
Thank you so much for yet another great and interesting video! I always love the idol insider vids! 😊 I am still curious, are there also managers who have a family and children? Because i can imagine it would be very hard for them since they want to spend time with their family and kids too, but if you’re managing an idol and are not home for most of the time, that could be really stressful 😦 And if there are managers who have kids, would they for example ask for days off to spend it with their family? or would they just keep up with it and spend time with their family, when the idols have a day off as well? 😊
Thank you so much for this video. One of my dreams is to be a road manager for a group. Could you share some advice on becoming a road manager in the kpop industry especially for someone young and is a foreigner?
I'd like to watch a video about the outfits and styling in general. Do idols have a say in the styling? How to avoid outfit accidents? The clothes are always high-end? Your videos are always so informative and interesting, great job! 💕
From the videos u have shared so far... I think that u can be gud as a manager yourself..... U no u r confident.... U stand gud on ur feet ( ur options ) .... U r quite an influential person...keep up with the gud job 💪🏻🙂
Can you plz talk about why some idols get really good outfits while others get bad outfits even when theyrecfrom the same group? I really need to know that...
I think it's because each member has a stylist (I'm pretty sure it's the case with SM's groups, SJ for sure, but they have a lot of solo activities so that may be why) or there at least more than 1 stylist for a group, I've heard several idols from different groups refer to "my stylist" when talking with another member.
@Liv L I agree coz it's just not us but everyone can see the difference in their outfits. Some seems so expensive while some look cheap . It's just idols who are able to rock in them
@@leighanneisagoddess4421 i get what you are saying, but im really into fashion and lemme tell you... sometimes stylists really do them dirty😂😂😂 like you can see how much thought they put into some members outfit compared to others.
soobeanie_ adding on to that, I’ve noticed that if a kpop group is signed to an American label they usually have managers assigned to them from that label (not their korean ones) cuz I know nct 127 has an American manager from capitol records. So I think only for overseas promotions like she said
@민지 oh God no that's not what I'm saying. I actually have an interest in managerial type jobs and if I were to be one it would not be for the purpose of getting close to idols that idea scares me. I purely asked out of plain curiosity please don't get the wrong idea.
@민지 then how about crews? Those that work on designing concepts/outfits or just production for short? Im taking production design which I have to work with celebrities. Is it same for being a manager?
Interesting video! By the way, could you make, if possible, a video about line distributions? I know, this is a delicate topic, but I would like to know what were the line distributions like in your former group and why they are so unfair in the most of cases.
I am a new subscriber just found your video today 5/22/20 . I really enjoyed this video I never had any of questions myself but after hearing the questions and answers I learned alot. Thanks
the ceo and member having relations...............that's the casting couch. that's so fucked up, the ceos are old ass men. the things some people will do to achieve their dreams 😢😢 what if a trainee/member was prepositioned? how the hell can they stay in the company's good graces whilst turning down their boss' sexual advances? that whole situation is a gross abuse of power.
Great video. Do idols interact regularly with producers, composers, and others who make big picture decisions about songs, styles, and the like? Managers accompany idols on the tours. But who does the strategy for the companies? And do idols participate in this process on a regular basis?
Can you make a video where you read kpop predictions on Twitter and you share with us what you think about the twits (based on what you know/think/have heard)? I think it could be funny and interesting. Love you❤️

I want privacy in bed, I want it to be the time of day where I can fully relax with my members or alone.
Suho did what?
Yeah, Exo members each have a manager. Plus Exo’s Lay probably has a whole team working for him.
@@googleuser5831 he went to the army
“Some managers are really old, like 30s, late 30s” .....that’s not old at all!!! xD
I guess with some of them 15/16 it'd be oldish 😂
Tbh it really isn’t that old to be 30 and be a manager since the majority of managers tend to be in their 40s to 50s so around that pre retirement age.
She said older not old
@@raygin6581 she did say some tend to be same age or older, but then she said "there are a lot of old managers too, I would say like 30s and some even late 30s, 40s..."
Haha exactly! People in 30s and 40s have wisdom ok!
Yeah sometimes its scary
soobeanie_ I’m curious like does counterflowing legit happening especially when you guys are in a rush?
That only makes me think of Ladies Code
Too many accidents. Companies should not schedule idols in such a way that managers drive crazy trying to make it.
You don’t know how much I’ve been feening for another Idol Insider 😩
😂😂😂❤️❤️ i will try to make more
It’s 4am and no one knows how much I love behind the scene of managers staff ect thanks xx 💕💕💕
🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️ thanks for watching
soobeanie_ aww 🥺 you welcome 💕
You look amazing in black, hope you mom feels a lot better 🙂
Thank you!! Yes she is🥺
Id love if you could do a video about the debt that kpop trainees go through like how much debt they are in, ways that the debt is built up, etc. Love your vids btw 🥺❤️

oooooooo yess that's such an interesting topic!!!
I have so much admiration for managers because they shoulder so much responsibilities and devote their lives so much to work. You really need a specific kind of personality to both be well organized and be good at making things happen smoothly. I could never handle the stress and pressure required.
I went to a festival and was surprised a lot of idols were on their own wandering the streets..I was like where are the managers and handlers...
i think maybe some of them are allowed to have like free time or something, tho that is quite interesting i hope she answers this maybe
Yeah it depends on the setting too
But like you mean on the festival? Or just the streets of Seoul? Which ones did you see?!🤗💞
Lisa from Blackpink was close to her male manager and he seemed really nice, but I think he was re-assigned to the new group.
He was G-dragons manager, and he just came back from military
hes not nice at all, he just stole a billion money to lisa since debut but the money is not really the big deal, its all about the trust that lisa gave to him, im really disappointed to that manager, hays:(((
@@ygjunghwaaan1207 Yes, wow, I was just reading about that on twitter. Poor Lisa, she must have felt so shocked and hurt. He was like her Korean big brother and he betrayed her trust like that. It's horrible.

Bannie Sanchez why what happened????
back in yr7, when i was a hardcore kpop fan, i thought working on exo's team would be a dream job. but then i learnt about how fucking hard of a job being an idol manager really is. it's really nice to hear idols and managers having close relationships
YO BEANIE DEF GOING TO NEED A VID ON CEOS DATING IDOLS LOL

soobeanie_ uuhhh....lol
Hi, so I'm really curious about the 'ship' thing in every idol groups. Is it really pure for fan service or they really have the good chemistry or there was 'something' in there?
No one is ever going to know that unless the people in question say so
I’m sure that there are some relationships in groups, but most of it is probably fan service.
Hey,Soobeanie
I wanted to say thanks to you for making this type of videos.
Because it's actually really important to talk about this Idol related stuff.
I know it's not easy to talk about and that you have to be careful what you're talking about.
Especially when you share personal Stories with your subscribers or is community better...
(I don't know) Anyways I really appreciate that and thank you. I've been watching your Channel for a few years now and I don't regret that I subscribe and I'll continue to support you.
So,Thank you and I love you.❤❤❤
Ps.Keep going🥰
I legit was about to go to sleep, but who needs sleep when you have eonni 🤗💚
💙🙏🙏🙏🙏 awwww
I Love how dedicated you are with responding the comments 💕
How do idols film those videos where they just roam around the streets without a mask or anything without any fans chasing them.
idols don't get mobbed everywhere they go, it happens at airports though when people know ahead of time
people gotta live their own lives, right? They can't be chasing idols all the time lol
For real, though, I think idols will probably pick quieter, smaller, areas to film in when there's not too much traffic. Or, like I said, their fans are busy doing their own thing like running errands, going to school, going to work, etc. I'm not an idol, though, so I can be wrong.
I honestly feel like mangers stop anyone approaching them and tell em no pictures sorry
@민지 true!!
@민지 wow thanks for commenting! I was actually starting to believe that idols dont really go out or take walks around the streets😂😂😂 im glad they can go outside without being disrupted or followed/stalked.
How do Kpop idol deal with depression and other mental health?
@@tillycomedy2194 kang daniel and ravi as well
This was really interesting!
It would be so interesting to hear a manager's perspective on their job too. How they liked the job, what were their hardships or fun stories 😀 Maybe one day a retired manager will do a video like this 😊
Am I the only one who doesn’t find being a manager fun?
Same... being a manager sounds like a really tiresome and soul sucking job where you can get burnt out easily because your life is your work.
I know it's just like being a nanny for the idol. You take care of literally making sure they're on schedule, they not lost, plan their time just so much
me too..
Me too. Actually, the word "manager" is exhausting in itself.
you look so pretty! let's watch the video now uwu
Awww thank! Enjoy the video!
sad thinking that lisa’s manager and jennie’s bodyguard are not working with them anymore 😭 (i had written this before that news of lisa’s manager.... this is how much we liked him)
Who is Jennie manager? Can you give me link?
Ramesh Uprety her ex bodyguard is this guy on suit, but now he’s working with twice th-cam.com/video/PRaBFtHitf8/w-d-xo.html

Never been so happy to see that a video was 30 minutes long 🤣 you make very interesting videos!
😂😂😂 I know I try my best to make them shorter but there was a lot of questions
Long is GOOOD
I agree that what the relationship/connection between the idol and manager is like depends on if the manager is sociable or not. I think it could also depend on what the idol is like. I also agree that the more strict a company is the more an idol will lie and/or do things without telling the company.
Thank you for this video!! I'm such a big fan

Sunny's birthday and a Soobeanie video! My cup runneth over.

Girls Generation’s former managers (male) got married and they were invited. The 1st during Oh! Era and the latest was this 2020.
Your makeup is so pretty! ;u;
20:20 that moment when she reads your question

Lol thank you for taking your time and answering these questions!!💜💜
You should watch the CLC stage with their manager, the poor manager knew none of the dance but they had the manager come on stage in place of Yeeun.
At first viewing, “Manager” sounds more like Go-fer or Assistant, where you’re just following them around waiting for an opportunity to do something for them like go get take out or pick up dry cleaning.🤔
In a way but also telling them what they have to do that day and taking them around the place
Reyanna Corf
Almost more Handler/Wrangler, depending on how intense the company’s scrutiny and expectations.
BigBrutal BassBeer
yeah it’s pretty much an all in one position
Taka a shot every time she says "it really depends"
I love the Idol Insider series so so much 💞 And your voice is really nice to listen to~~
Thank you so much for yet another great and interesting video! 😊
Love her videos, subscribed right away when I saw her videos.😊

i love kard's manager (a guy) and got7's manager (a female)....they are o nice
Can you plz talk about why some idols get really good outfits while others get bad outfits even when theyrecfrom the same group? I really need to know that...
I think it's because each member has a stylist (I'm pretty sure it's the case with SM's groups, SJ for sure, but they have a lot of solo activities so that may be why) or there at least more than 1 stylist for a group, I've heard several idols from different groups refer to "my stylist" when talking with another member.
I wouldn't call it bad rather "not your taste"
@Liv L I agree coz it's just not us but everyone can see the difference in their outfits. Some seems so expensive while some look cheap . It's just idols who are able to rock in them
@@leighanneisagoddess4421 i get what you are saying, but im really into fashion and lemme tell you... sometimes stylists really do them dirty😂😂😂 like you can see how much thought they put into some members outfit compared to others.
@@chaizan9733 True...data exactly what I'm talking about☹

Are there very many foreigner managers or do you think it's possible to become a manager if you're a foreigner?
Maybe for overseas promotions
soobeanie_ adding on to that, I’ve noticed that if a kpop group is signed to an American label they usually have managers assigned to them from that label (not their korean ones) cuz I know nct 127 has an American manager from capitol records.
@민지 Thank you for the insight and I'll keep that all in mind!!
@민지 then how about crews? Those that work on designing concepts/outfits or just production for short? Im taking production design which I have to work with celebrities. Is it same for being a manager?

the ceo and member having relations...............that's the casting couch. that's so fucked up, the ceos are old ass men. the things some people will do to achieve their dreams 😢😢 what if a trainee/member was prepositioned? how the hell can they stay in the company's good graces whilst turning down their boss' sexual advances? that whole situation is a gross abuse of power.

Yeahhh~~~
Can you make a video on the job recruit process for managers, and maybe share some interview questions, if you are familiar with it
you're so prettyyyy, Christine~~
Great video. Do idols interact regularly with producers, composers, and others who make big picture decisions about songs, styles, and the like? Managers accompany idols on the tours. But who does the strategy for the companies? And do idols participate in this process on a regular basis?
Is it possible as a K-pop Idol, that you could choose your own Manager?
