Hey Dan, I've watched you since the sharpie bike. I love you man. I lost my pitbull a week after you lost Jax. Today while cooking dinner on grill I got my mail. My bestest boy Keychain showed up and I broke down and cried. I lost my shit. I thank you so much for making those. Love you man.
@DOITWITHDAN I'm beside myself I'm the fact that you answered me. I went simple tonight with some burgers. Used salt, pepper, garlic and onion butter. Thanks for responding man. I needed that.
I want an FX but for 13k out the door, I can get a Honda NX500 with every mod I want on the bike and a full years worth of full coverage insurance for the same price. The value just is NOT there.
lol you can’t even buy an electric bicycle for 5k. That’s my biggest problem with EVs they’re too expensive for the range you get. They’ll have to come a long way with the battery tech before I ever buy one
I checked to make sure. The Grom I kept for a year. 74auto sold the Jeeps after about 5 months (COVID hit and they needed to liquidate everything). The jet skis lasted 2 seasons but we sold them to buy our house 😢. And the GTR lasted 6 months. I had the zero for 2 months 😂
The biggest downside of hydrogen is that it's impossible to store liquid hydrogen without cooling the liquid, even under extreme pressure. It's great for Alaska, but in the south your tank will self evacuate within a day or two. You also have a bunch of extremely explosive gas hanging around your house just waiting for an accident. The future is graphene super capacitors for electric cars, and carbon neutral fuels for internal combination engines.
I wouldn't buy an electric motorcycle. I need to hear the engine and shift gears. A car though is different. I bought a plug-in hybrid. I can get 50 miles on electric and close to 500 with the gas engine. The 50 miles is enough for me for my daily city driving so I rarely buy gas but needed the gas engine for the longer trips I do each year. Plug-in hybrids are the way to go.
I think that a zero would be an ideal bike for me to commute to work and back. Have been considering one because the 36 mile trip and free charger at work would be great to not worry or even bother thinking about maintenance
It’s def a city bike. 65 mile range is forever in a place like NYC. The quick acceleration through traffic is super sick for that application. But when you can go 10 miles between lights, it’s not shining.
60 miles of range would be annoying regardless of fuel type. My 70s Honda only has 120 miles of range and it's annoying AF having to fill up EVERY time I take the bike out. I couldn't imagine cutting that in half.
Honestly, I thought I’d hate electric power steering, but when it’s done right it’s not bad at all. Some of the earlier implementations of it sucked, but I don’t mind it at all on my ‘17 VW GTI. I like that I can make the steering heavier or looser on the fly. Loose is nice for when you’re taking a long drive, tight is better for hitting curves and general control. Also don’t mind throttle by wire when you have a tuned car or pedal commander. OEM’s still suck dick with that shit. Only thing I’m not comfortable with is brake by wire, unless there’s a redundant hydraulic booster.
We have a Leaf as a family/run around town car. If the bikes charged like the Leaf (which gets the same range, honestly.) It wouldn't be bad. I can DCQC my Leaf from 30-80% in like 15 minutes or less, depending on temp. It's saved me literally $3,000 in the past 6 months on gas and maintenance. (we have solar and a EVGO membership, our entire grid is Solar, hydro, and wind powered. Salt River Project is our energy supplier.) And it's still not enough to make us want to keep the leaf. It's either a shit ton of fun, flooring it everywhere, weaving in and out of traffic which KILLS your range, or it's boring as FUCK. I wanted to like it but it's a hard pass.
Interesting tech involving sodium batteries is on the near horizon that I suspect will drastically reduce the battery cost. But the infrastructure has to be built out significantly better, with true fast charging being a universal experience, with a single standard plug, for electric to have a real shot at being competitive. Until then, it's just a luxury and/or toy, not really transportation for the masses.
I think a bike like this would make much more sense in Europe, where everything is a little more closer to eatch other. I know the father of a friend of mine has one, and my neighbour too, they both have the DSR touring version, and they love it. But just like you said - they just don't have any range left after 2-3 hours of easy riding.
One thing that i've always said about EV's and just their general use... Imagine if you're in the southern states where hurricanes are a thing and you have to use an EV to evacuate. I think that would pose a serious issue because you're not going to be the only one in that same situation. There would be lines of dying EV's on the highways and around the block waiting for a charger. I'm not saying i want this to happen but it would be a really good "for science" eye-opener....
THANK YOU FOR SELLING THAT ELECTRIC BIKE HELL YEAH BROTHER HOPEFULLY TO SEE YOU ON A HONDA CBR600 OR 1000 KEEP UP THE GREAT CONTENT OH AND RIDE SAFE 💯🔥👍🇺🇸
Man Zero bikes look fun but I NEVER leave my house and don’t put in 100 miles when I’m riding the bike. I also don’t work where I live so there’s no option to commute for me, I usually take a plane to work and don’t come home for a month.
17:49 Fuck me I love Volvos, on another note, have you ever considered, and would you, make European-sized plate holders? I need a financially unstable one but the one on the site doesn't fit my car :(
Since you didn’t have time to do the math, I’ll do it for you ;). Not exactly sure which zero you’re on and what the capacity is but looking at the new Zero SRS the battery capacity is 17.3 KWH. At the national average electricity rate or $0.17/kwh a full charge on that bike is $2.94. That bike CLAIMS a range of 116 miles on the highway (which would be about $0.03 per mile) but even if we go with your 60 mile range in the video, that comes out to about $0.05 per mile. Compare that to let’s say a GSXR1000 with an EPA MPG of 36. The national average gallon of gas is $3.45. At 36 mpg you’re looking at about $0.09 per mile. Going with a much more fuel efficient bike like a CBR250 you get around 75mpg which puts you at $0.05 per mile. TLDR: EV best case scenario = ~$0.03 per mile EV worst case scenario = ~$0.05 per mile ICE best case scenario = ~$0.05 per mile ICE worst case scenario =~$0.09 per mile Just in case you were all wondering:-D.
DAD! What bike should I get Dan? You responded to my other comment about wrecking the bike, should I get a 600 sport bike, or another cruiser like I had before? You decide Dan!
Its just a tesla of motorcycles.. doesn't really look very cool, goes like stink and feels fast from the instant torque. Just like a tesla, feels fun and super fast for about a week or two. Then you realize its just regular traffic, the speed is boring and normal in no time, and you also don't floor it very often cuz it just wipes out the battery.. Anyone buying electric shit right now is just wasting money way before its really engineered correctly..
I still think you should get a Surron and do a 72v build series. Look how much fun brian636 has on his. Then you can have your gas motorcycle and also the fun of a crazy fast electric bike
I don't listen to music when riding because I enjoy riding and music too much (separately). Can't really enjoy music whilst riding, and can't enjoy riding when listening to music.
the fact that you can only get 50-60 miles on a charge with this thing is nuts. If an electric motorcycle had like 200 miles of range it would be comparable to the Trail 125 I'm currently riding (I've got a gas can on the side) so that wouldn't make a terrible commute bike then because I wouldn't be stretching to make it to work and back and only doing that. But this kind of thing I can't even take the 100 miles to the family farm.
Hydrogen is not really viable or better for the environment if you're not producing the hydrogen with 100% renewable energy (which is not the case anywhere in the world). And the storage and transport of it is also quite wack and not really solved without massive infastructure changes.
Batteries can be swapped out, the issue is that there is no universal battery form and system. Many electric scooters come with easily removable batteries, if you have a couple lying around you don't need to waste time charging. But if you were smart, you'd charge your EV overnight anyway and realistically only charge when you drive further than your range (not really possible with a 0km range bike, but a car has no issue being charged over night, 9/10 people statistically don't drive over 100km per day)
Unfortunately in Denmark, the government disregards and rejects the hydrogen powered cars and the last hydrogen gas station is shutdown (need new owners) there Is a clear push to electric power cars, with reducing taxes on new vehicles and electricity. Also wide range ban on gas powers vehicles in major cities. I wish, they would reconsider giving hydrogen powered the same benefits and building the infrastructure the same speed as electric. For now I am sticking to my gasoline powered cars, even tho I have driven many electric car for test drive. My favorites so far are BMW i4 and Polestar 2. Great vehicles. And I can’t stand Tesla’s. Great tech but terrible car for sure.
Yo Dan, I’ve got an idea for your business! Maybe you can make your own wallet with cool designs and sell them. You think that would be possible to make with your plasma cutter?
