    I'm so thankful that we had great music in my life . As I tip in my mid 60s I still shake my ass to my favorite group!

      Modern Gretsch guitars are really great, but once you grab 60's/70s original Gretsch you can feel a big difference: vintage Gretsch guitars had awesome neck, amazing sound and playability. I got vintage Gretsch G7594 White Falcon II and the difference is HUGE but with a few upgrades my G5222 MY sounds pretty good, close to the original Gretsch guitars.
      In my opinion, modern Gretsch guitars especially Electromatic series should be upgraded:
      - replace BlackTop FilterTrons pickups with Gretsch FilterTron HS (U.S. PAT 2892371)/SoloDallas SD63/SD71/TV Jones pickups
      - replace Bigsby vibrato with the high-end Bigsby replica/original (vintage)
      - replace locking tuners

    Nice work. I had a 5222 and wanted to turn it into a "beast" but I felt there were too many differences that can't be over come, such as the zero fret and the height of the neck off the body etc. So I bought the G6131MY and wow what a guitar it is!!

    • @curious_techie
      @curious_techie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks mate!
      As I've mentioned, a G5222 has a completely different geometry compared to a G6131/G6128. And you're very right about the neck and its construction.
      I've got a G6131T '62, and I can share the same thoughts about the guitar. However, I'd like to replace the TV Jones pickups with either some vintage ones or a SoloDallas SDF76 pickup. The stock TV Jones pickups on a G6131 '62/G6131 MY sound too "meaty".

      @@tonytrotter2708 I once played an original '60s Gretsch with the Burns vibrato, and I wouldn't say they are great. Maybe it depends on the guitar, but it was always out of tune.

    doing this too. but dont think base for bridge will work. also looking inside - there's no block under burns. screwing into top - ok - or did you add blocking down there. thx for your help

    • @curious_techie
      @curious_techie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      See it depends, but yes I had to screw the bridge into the top. A Gretsch G5222 has a completely different geometry compared to a vintage G6131.

    I have been looking everywhere for those steel plugs mal used to fill the switch holes. Do you know what size they are? How did you get them in?

    • @curious_techie
      @curious_techie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh yeah mate. I really struggled with them. I'll measure the steel plugs and text you. I found them in some eBay marketplace, but I can't find them now... they don't exist anymore

    • @curious_techie
      @curious_techie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey!
      No it didn't.
      If you wanna replace the original bridge you have to do a lot of tests: not at all bridge will fit in and you can probably lose sustain...

    • @fin78_
      @fin78_ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I'd easily put Mal above Clapton and Page, Clapton stole just about everything he every played and page as good as he was was a very sloppy player, when it comes to precision Mal was on top bar nobody. The absolute best of all time with no competition.
