  • My short review of the Gretsch G5222 Electromatic.
    Upgrades I've done include staining the fretboard (using India ink) and upgrading the machine heads to the locking type.
    The pickups are excellent and in my opinion do not need upgrading.
    It is strung with 11-58 La Bella strings.
    Playing through a Park 75 amp on the Helix.

    I love the tone of these! They’re basically Telecasters on steroids. I imagine a Tele with filtertrons wouldn’t sound too much different.

      So technically couldn't the Gretsch nail Led Zeppelin I's sound?

    this tone sounds almost 1 to 1 like that of Malcolm at Donnington. Very well done!

    I have just ordered one of these amazing guitars in the same colour (Malcolm Young colour) . £429 from Guitarguitar. Can't wait to get my mitts on this instrument. I'll be hooking it up to a Marshall 30 watt MG30DFX ( not the best I know) but it should sound pretty good. I'm also looking to get it restrung with a wound G, what brand and gauge string would you recommend please, also would I have to send the guitar to a luthier to have the nut accomodate the strings? Many thanks in advance. Some awesome Malcolm stuff you did there, big hats off to you mate, great job 👍👍👍☮☮☮🤘🤘🤘

      Thanks Tim, that amp will be fine, solid state or valve a Marshall is just the ticket. The strings are La Bella 12s with a wound G. I reckon you'll be OK as the nut slot was cut fine on mine. You may need to adjust the action (depending on your preference and how hard you hit the strings) and intonation. I used a pretty heavy 3mm pick too

    Hi There, i purchased the walnut version and wanted to ask if it is normal that the guitar hums when i turn (one or all ) volume pots to 0 position. I do not touch strings or bridge or the pots. When I touch them, the humming stops. Please notice: pots are turned to 0.

    What are the tuners you used? Were they a one for one replacement or did you have to ream the holes to make them fit?

    Great sound! I buy this guitar for Christmas and I can't wait. I have a Marshall Origin 20C amplifier, do you think it will be a good lot for Malcolm's sound? It is my greatest goal to bring my guitar sound closer to his. What amplifier settings do you prefer?

    • @GuitarTalkunedited
      @GuitarTalkunedited  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate, yes I think the Origin 20c would be a brilliant amp for Malcolms tone. With that amp turn the master up as loud as you can (what ever is practical for you, in an apartment might be too loud) then experiment with the pull boost. Remember Malcolm didn't use that much gain.. one thing to bare in mind is if you can play with the master too loud, compensate by turning the bass up (sometimes combos are a bit bright sounding)

      What was it that you used to stain the fretboard, Indian ink or ? I’d love to see a video on how you did that. If you could give me any guidance at all I’d be greatful.

    Nice playing. A bit too much gain maybe?

    • @GuitarTalkunedited
      @GuitarTalkunedited  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yep, you're right well noticed. Malcolm would never play with that amount of gain. But when you're not playing at the volumes he did you need a bit of gain to get some vibes - hope that makes sense

    Cool. But any humbucking guitar not too distorted with a good amp with some dirt on will work. And of course, only Malcolm can sound like Malcolm.
