I have to say I think that EA/TT has finally found the proper balance of game mechanics with this latest update. The game has been an absolute joy to play this week. The contest has brought focus. Market forces have finally taken hold in the GTHQ. Tokens of all varieties have been in supply. Blocks, great tips in this master class video. We have a public service advert here in the States: "Reading is fundamental." Excellent job all around! Cheers!
+Mike Murray - Overall, I think I agree with you. There are a couple of things in the update I think should have been implemented slightly differently. On the whole though, this is one of the best yet and adds a great new layer of gameplay that we needed! I hope this is just the start of more social features in the future that seemed to be hinted at in the Contest of Mayors FAQ in game! Thanks for the feedback on the video too, I'm glad you found it useful :)
+Mike Murray NOtice how much more common expansion pieces, TT, L, P, and Vu are from reading blue bubbles...? Not like the sparse early days of the game....
The building upgrade assignments tend to be high point value, so have at least 2 of each residential zone type ready for upgrade and to have all the items needed. That way you don't have to create new rez zones, ask for new plans, or take up production time. Also, know which Vu parts you need to launch a couple disasters, and make sure you have them in stock. All of this should be done before the league begins, so you can get valuable assignments done quickly. (Speed can make the difference on the leaderboard if you are tied with another mayor.)
+Rod T - Thanks for dropping by and commenting! No error though, I think you might have misunderstood(?) what I was saying. The point I was making is that you don't need to Repair the second Disaster in a 'Launch 2 Disasters' Assignment to complete the Assignment. You only need to Launch and Repair the first one and Launch the second one. The Assignment is completed at that point. I hope that makes it clearer :)
+Alvin - Yep, the Assignments are random for each Mayor, some weeks you'll get lucky with a high maximum score, other weeks not so much! Keep at it Mayor and you'll definitely progress up the Leagues in the long term :)
I have a trick for the 'Earn Simoleans' assignment. I trade high ticket items back and forth with a club member, I will usually keep a couple of each of the London/Paris/Tokyo items in stock then sell an appropriate amount to a club member to complete the assignment, then buy my items back from them
I am a beginner and I just reached the required level yesterday. I am still not so familiar with the mechanism. For the "Produce and Collect" assignment, do they count the materials which is already in the process of production when you press the start button?
+Stephen Chan - Anything that hasn't yet been collected counts. So you can have items sitting there already produced before you press the Start button for the Assignment, and complete it immediately, if you plan well. Good luck Mayor, I hope that helps you out :)
Thanks for you information. That really helps, as I still only have the most basic factories so I originally found most of the "Produce and Collect" assignments almost impossible to complete if I don't have some items already available for collection.
+aceDriver53 - Did you mean a Feeder, as in a Feeder City? If so, then check out my video here on that topic; th-cam.com/video/U2h3V9AOuhE/w-d-xo.html - hope it helps you out :)
I am competing in level 66 Mayors "Suburban". I have chosen the highest point assignments every time and about to finish 18th and last assignment for 26,995 points - about the best score I could get by always picking the highest point assignment offered. However the guys in the top leaderboard places have points of 34,255 - in fact four players have more than 30,000 points. They must have had much bigger point assignments offered?
+catherine cusack - The Assignments offered to each player is random, and you can do a lot more Assignments as you move up through the Leagues too. It sounds like those other Mayors might have just had more points randomly offered to them this week. I think the key tip for weeks like that is to not worry too much, just be sure you've done enough to stay in the same League and then have another go at promotion next week!
+catherine cusack I think it is random like what Blocks said, but if you don't like the points you're offered, you can replace them (start an assignment, cancel, wait 20 minutes). But usually it's best to just use Blocks 3 tips, and select the best possible assignments to do.
+ChrisAndCats - Congratulations! Yep, the Kolner Dom is top of my 'You Should Build It' list too :D It'll take a few weeks until we start earning Platinum Keys though, hopefully the competition doesn't get too difficult!
Hello. I have no problem reaching Megapolis league. However, it gets very hard there as players reach 100k plumbob points by the end of the contest, and I only reach 50k but somehow manage to get the lowest prize. I usually skip most of the assignment and only do easy things like collecting money or upgrading houses. Any tips? Keep it up, and thanks. 😊
The contest of mayors is not a contest. It is lotto. The assignments that you get are randomly generated and given random points at the time you join. This means other players could get better and higher point assignments, so no matter how many you finish you could never be first. I played for 20 days and could not get out of town league even though I only did the highest point assignments. When I can score 32000 only doing 25 of the highest point assignments and someone else can get 57,000 then is means the game is rigged. Sorry it's not a contest, it's luck of the random number generator. In other words, lotto.
+Richard Szkodzinski Just a comment on doing the highest point assignments... i have played a few times with the idea that this would be the best way but; sometimes when you select a low points assignment like 500 or less then the very next might be fix 2 vu disasters for 3000. There is some kind of algorithm behind this but it is not always the best to go for the top $ assignments...
+Richard Szkodzinski Not really sure about this or maybe I'm just lucky. This week I took the highest assignments every single time (except of 1) and was able to come in 2nd. The weeks before my attempts were similar, but I would take a 1040 point assignment, when it seemed easier than the top-score 1100 point assignment. Before I was always close to getting promoted, but failed. The few points difference however seem to add up and made the difference.
+jack Jackersen I was told by Support the algorithm is random. So its just luck you get high value tasks. They said they tweaked the settings, to make it more consistent, and so I tried my plan again, and I still didnt make the top 10. Although the top ten were all very close. But that just means its still unbalanced, and luck of the draw. Just more are luckier and closer. I have chosen not to play until they fix that and by what I have seen so far about 30-50% of the contestants also choose3 not to compete, or start to compete but never continue past a few tasks. The contest is a flawed.
i did that twice, too. did a couple of tasks to not get demoted and else i collected vu-items for the next week. so there are also other motives to not participate in full every week. according to the changelog of the recent update they tweaked the contest once again, so let's see what this week brings.
Hello. I have a question. I'm joining the Contest of the Mayors & I'm in the Metropolis League but I want to be back to Neighborhood League to get the Season Prizes how can I do that without going to Megapolis League? Please reply. Thanks!
+Jhestine Ong - Don't worry! When you join a Season, you'll automatically start in the bottom League again, along with all the other Mayors in the Season :)
Had similar experience in other game, got my first place in both challenges. Similar strategy. My question is, how many games on average is going on in the SimCity Build it. There are 100 users playing a game each time. Additionally noticed that at the first round the players varied anything from 20-73 (?) and for the second round it was primary around my level (I am 26 right now) so anything between 25-33. Does this mean EA sorts players by level, for each new round?
+Ellemi - I don't know how many Leagues there are, but SimCity BuildIt was downloaded almost 40 million times in the first 6 months, so there are definitely a LOT of Leagues! You're supposed to see Mayors at the same level as you in your League, this should work out over time and as you progress through the Leagues too! :)
Just have a Q. I'm now in the metropolis league, coming up from the city league. I've gone from being able to win 100,000 sim coins to 200 sim cash with a bunch of tokens and keys too. But this prize in the higher league doesn't seem to be better than 100,000 coins which would cost 1300 sim cash to buy....I don't get it
+mitchell peart - That depends on what value you personally place on SimCash. I would much rather have 200 SimCash than 100,000 Simoleons, because 200 SimCash is a lot more difficult to earn than 100,000 Simoleons. As you level up your City and generate products more quickly and then sell them I think this becomes more and more clear. Hope that helps you out :)
It's a lotto. Maybe. But how come I started at Neighborhood League and now I'm at City League, always rank 1? I'm level 32 now. I started when I was at level 25. (Stopped because I was so poor couldn't handle yet how to get simoleons). Maybe you can win easily if you will start participating in the Contest of Mayors at level 18. It's like "the lower your level, the lesser competitors".
I think this contest of mayors will be hard for smaller cities to compete in, mainly because you need tons of city storage space and factories to produce 147 metal in 15 minutes. Although I am still for the idea, as every city in the game is growing somewhat, And in small cities which on,y take up a couple of blocks, it would be weird to see a royal garden in there. And of course, like every update, this is just EA pushing us to stay on the game longer, so they get better reviews, have more people on the game so they can fork out on in- game currency.
+Mr. G - I agree, it is more difficult for smaller Cities to compete in the entry level league as there are Mayors at all kinds of City level in there. But, from next week and even more over time as the Leagues start to normalise, Cities of every level will be competing just against others at the same level - and that will make it easier for the more dedicated players to separate themselves and win some great prizes! I love the Royal Garden, it's amazing :D
why my city doesnt have the lights lamp on the road ? no police , garbage truck, firemen, and other on the road.. in my mom phone, a lenovo have em.. but mine( samsung 3v) doesnt have.. im sick of this.. i want to watch the traffic lights and the traffic ofc
I've recently completed two Megalopolis Leagues. Came 2nd in the first and 10th in the second. I do every highest value task in my list, but I'm still not guaranteed 1st place, so, yeah, it's a lottery. I'm going to start choosing tasks from lower down the list (fewer plumbob points) and hope they are replaced by high value tasks. Otherwise, I don't know how I get beaten by 15,000 points by the winners.
+Chris Alison - Me, as well as many other people who play efficiently and save their resources for a rainy day ;) If you're interested in learning how and why I accumulated so many over time, you can check out my playthrough series from the start here; th-cam.com/play/PLRLAsOhDeBc_d7TkUvNnDEKl55DfBz0IS.html - I hope you learn something useful Mayor! :)
how long does it take for your contest of mayors prize to come in? I got first place in my neighborhood league which ended about 7 hours ago and no keys or coins have been awarded to my city yet
When I last looked earlier today, I'm still in first place by about 2200 points, but there are two behind me who can beat me if they haven't done the disaster for 3000 points assignment as ive finished mine.....the only disappointment with this update is the fact that anything I'm selling takes an absolute age to sell, even usually sought after stuff, to the extent that if I fill my store and have to go away for a bit rather than wait then add more... I guess everyone is frantically making their own stuff for the contest instead!
That or barely anyone uses the GTHQ anymore. I had to wait for two minutes to just get one search result on the market, although I do think the update has had an influence.
It did seem easier to get stuff like electronic chips and glass, previously it would be half an hour of select sold select sold so that's an upside to offset against slow selling it suppose...I suppose overall, weighing the two against each other I do prefer being able to buy more easily over how it was before..
+ChrisAndCats - Great to hear you are doing well Mayor, good luck for the end of the Contest. All you need to do is finish in the top 5 or top 10 to win the Grand or Big Prizes, and also get promoted to the next League! I hope your position holds up. I've had no problems selling stuff from my Trade Depot yet, and there seems to be a lot more Global Trade HQ activity this week too. What level are you at and kinds of products are you selling?
When I say market forces have taken hold in GTHQ, this phenomenon is what I'm referring to. Until now, players have tried to sell everything at max price. However, when you flood the market with many of the same item, the price SHOULD go down. Faced with burgers at §4000 vs burgers at §2000, which will sell faster? It's the basic laws of supply and demand. Incidentally, because of the wider variety of items on the market, it might be an excellent time to do an Epic Project, assuming of course that you've completed your tasks for the Contest of Mayors.
I've finished'd my mayors contest, so while I'm waiting I've got a few things on the go. I'm saving up vu remotes (despite really wanting to use them as I'm on 30 keys and I really want a church!), plus I've got all my factories and stores on full production (to sell as I'm not upgrading any more buildings just yet until I've expanded a bit more). I also have an epic project running all the time although I'm only taking them to copper as silver is too time consuming along side work and the mayors contest, and I'm finishing expanding the beach, as my mountains are fully expanded. When I'm making to sell, I don't bother with burgers often as I find they don't sell very well even reduced - I rarely sell at full price unless it's an expansion item I don't need, but to sell rather than upgrade, i like watches, the occasional backpack, mowers, bbqs, deck chairs, biscuits and such. I also do like a sofa at the front of loading the furniture store, otherwise I can't keep up with the chairs!
+Santiago Gamer - No, you can only get them currently by winning Prizes in the Contest of Mayors! Check out the in-game FAQ for more information. I also covered them my Platinum Keys Sneak Peek video, here; th-cam.com/video/8rZ_bP-Mdw0/w-d-xo.html
Yesterday...in metropolis league i got 54 000 i end up 2nd place and the first is 59 000 im lvl 25 now..its better that u r low lvl coz the bigger lvl the harder i want the 2000 cash and 250 platinum key...in megapolis league
+Patrick John Jimenez - That's a great tip, thanks for sharing! Definitely true that the higher your level, the harder the Contest of Mayors becomes. Stay low and profit :)
Yeah I'm at level 43 and I have had strong opposing Mayors this Megalopolis League. The guy in 2nd is at 128k and I'm at 138k in 1st. I only have one last ticket I can use this week, so hopefully I'll be alright!
Hi San, Just send a friendship request to anyone who is playing SimCity and log in by Facebook in the game. Go to the SimCity Facebook page and you'll find tons of people who wants to be friends with you.
+Fransamsterdam - Hah! Yes, that might seem obvious to you - but, if you take a quick glance at any social media or forums about SimCity BuildIt, or even the comments section on my videos then you would see a reasonable number of players not doing that correctly. I've seen quite a lot of comments and posts from Mayors not understanding (for example) what 'Produce and Collect' means - and thinking they could buy items from the Global Trade HQ instead of producing them in their Factories. It's a fairly simple and easy mistake to make, so I still think that is a pretty decent tip ;)
+All Your Blocks That could be true... By the way, 'produce and collect' in fact only means 'collect'. So if you have to 'produce and collect' 10 items, you can produce some while you are still busy with an other assignment, let them wobble in space, and collect them not before you finished the previous assignment and started the assignment for what you need them.
You can plan and scheme all you want but it's purely the luck of the draw on assignments. I played all the best assignments and finished them all along with five golden tickets (the maximum allowed). I ended up at 68,000 but came in 13th place. Who won? Some buy with 106,000! Counting the golden tickets you could only do 35 tasks total. He averaged over 3,000 per task! The game only gave me one task worth that much so it was absolutely impossible to get beyond the small prize. Others were in the mid 80,000s. It didn't matter how much I planned and had one task setting up while another was completing. It was all the luck of the draw on tasks. If you don't have 10 tasks worth 3,000 at the very beginning, don't even bother thinking you'll end up above the small prize in the top league. And don't waste too much effort or coins. Just do a handful of tasks to get the small prize and forget about it until the next contest.
This contest of mayors is not fair at all. I have only completed the highest point assignments and I have completed them all but I am at 4th place with 25000 points while no. 1 has 32000 points. So this means some people were given higher points to begin with. How is this fair?
Yea. I was hoping this video gave tips as to how to get higher point assignments. I just moved up to a higher league and I've completed the highest point available tasks each time and still will not be advancing to the next league. It's frustrating.
+Sheraz Khakwani - I guess the 'fairness' is in the random element. Everyone has the same chance to get a 'good' or 'bad' task each time it refreshes. That does mean that some weeks it will be more difficult to get Plumbob Points with bigger Assignments, but some weeks it will be easier too! I think I prefer this random assortment to the likely alternative (where everyone would get the same Assignments) because at least we can decide what things we do in our Cities. I do think it needs more balancing though, both on difficulty level and how often 'good' Assignments are generated.
But the downside is that after finishing all of the assignments even with the highest point assignments you're grayed out and out of the running for a higher level or prize. Why can't the mayors keep playing until the game is officially over instead of being shut out at 45,450 points.
Wow how much money did you spent on the game +All Your Blocks 450 items in your inventory !!! 1.6M cash ? Level 37 only and 64k persons ? the number do not match there...
+Benoit Héroux - I've spent about £6. I made 2 SimCash purchases on deals at (I think) £2.99 each, to buy some cool Parks in game. The numbers look a little odd at the moment because I'm redesigning my City and bulldozed about 300,000 population to make space. If you want to check that video out, it's here; th-cam.com/video/qzi2wTF3BjI/w-d-xo.html - or you can catch up on my playthrough series right from the start, here; th-cam.com/play/PLRLAsOhDeBc_d7TkUvNnDEKl55DfBz0IS.html - hope that answers your question :)
Only 73% of your civilians like you? That's pretty low for a player like you. You should be better to your people Blocks. Mine is 100%, always. If i drop a percent, i fix it.
+Wicher H - Yep, I'm normally in the 90% range, but am in the middle of a big City redesign! If you want to learn more about why, head over and check out my Blocks Plays BuildIt series :)
Ok this guy has1.6 million dollars and he somehow doesn't find it as a good idea to take care of all the burning buildings and lack of other services that are clearly in need
+Max Jenks - Correct. This guy is re-organising his entire City at the moment. He did a recent episode about it, here; th-cam.com/video/qzi2wTF3BjI/w-d-xo.html - and if you'd like to catch up on this guy's playthrough series and videos so far, check out the start of this guy's playlist; th-cam.com/play/PLRLAsOhDeBc8IxMsbXFHMFu-jSebits-5.html - P.S. You're welcome :D
+All Your Blocks no I don't care to catch up sorry I just clicked on a Google image trying to figure out why there's a whit plumbob floating above my contest of mayors tower

if we need to be the first, must we finish all the assignment or just have a high score ???

All Your Blocks thanks for your reply 😊
did you use simcash for your storage or a feedcity technique?
I'm placed 4th in my competition, thanks for your extra help

I would much rather have 200 SimCash than 100,000 Simoleons, because 200 SimCash is a lot more difficult to earn than 100,000 Simoleons. As you level up your City and generate products more quickly and then sell them I think this becomes more and more clear. Hope that helps you out :)
What's your city name in placed second as of right now
CAN i PUT DONUTS FOR PRODUCTION BEFORE ACTIVATING THE PRODUCE AND COLLECT DONUTS ASSIGNMENT. AND ACTIVATE IT BEFORE COLLECTING?
Yup
you should have a lot more subs your vid are awsome
+Tom Almog - That's very kind, thank you! :)
Tom Almog yup :)
When I produce and collect, say 17 hamburgers, do I have to keep them in storage until all are collected or can I sell them as I collect them?
+Ralph Wingate No, you can sell them before claiming the award.
Glad they they changed the high number of metals I failed that task the fist time I did it I reported it to ea that I had a space issues at the time
Mayors got confused with the canisters tasks
why my city doesnt have the lights lamp on the road ? no police , garbage truck, firemen, and other on the road.. in my mom phone, a lenovo have em.. but mine( samsung 3v) doesnt have.. im sick of this.. i want to watch the traffic lights and the traffic ofc
Mama K i had the same problem until i got another phone
I've recently completed two Megalopolis Leagues. Came 2nd in the first and 10th in the second. I do every highest value task in my list, but I'm still not guaranteed 1st place, so, yeah, it's a lottery. I'm going to start choosing tasks from lower down the list (fewer plumbob points) and hope they are replaced by high value tasks. Otherwise, I don't know how I get beaten by 15,000 points by the winners.
Over 100 Batteries and 70 odd Gloves. So you're the reason I can't get any on the Global Trade HQ?! Ha ha
+TheTuneful - Ah, yes! There is that, hahaha :D
HA HA.... This video is so bogus, it's crazy. Who has that kind of resources???
+Chris Alison - Me, as well as many other people who play efficiently and save their resources for a rainy day ;) If you're interested in learning how and why I accumulated so many over time, you can check out my playthrough series from the start here; th-cam.com/play/PLRLAsOhDeBc_d7TkUvNnDEKl55DfBz0IS.html - I hope you learn something useful Mayor! :)
How did you got 1.6m coins
how long does it take for your contest of mayors prize to come in? I got first place in my neighborhood league which ended about 7 hours ago and no keys or coins have been awarded to my city yet
You have to collect your prize. Just a click on a button.
+Fransamsterdam what button? i've clicked everything and nothing happens

I also do like a sofa at the front of loading the furniture store, otherwise I can't keep up with the chairs!
is there a way to buy platinum keys with simcash or... i will just say premium money
All Your Blocks ohhhh well then, i have a decent enough amount of simcash and i was hoping to buy plat keys
that Tokyo tower 😍😍😍
I always check first on he deserters before doing it got 3
bet you forgot about this comment
I only have one last ticket I can use this week, so hopefully I'll be alright!
you can always cancel ur challenge to get a new challenge :)
We come a long way since
Hello how can I send a friend request to someone?
Hi San,
Just send a friendship request to anyone who is playing SimCity and log in by Facebook in the game. Go to the SimCity Facebook page and you'll find tons of people who wants to be friends with you.
"Read the assignments." I am impressed......
Wish I had that many vu items
Me too :(
Wow u have plenty of vu items
Please keep posting ! HHah
Wow the CoM been running for 2 years now
Key to this game is STORAGE if u have plenty of storage u are laughing
Level 37 with 64k residents? Your population is too low for that level... It's amazing u hv so much storage spaces, wow.
But good tips
This contest of mayors is not fair at all. I have only completed the highest point assignments and I have completed them all but I am at 4th place with 25000 points while no. 1 has 32000 points. So this means some people were given higher points to begin with. How is this fair?
+Sheraz Khakwani Yeah, it's annoying. I just ended in 51st place with 21000 points, first was almost 50k. Tasks are totally random and not fair.
+Sheraz Khakwani You could be right. I finished 1st on my level with 31175 points. And my first assignment was 5000 points.
142 metal FOR only 710 Of the POINTS oi I DID 54 For 1,620 points
I now know why I cant find or buy any Vu stuff.. You have it all.. Probably free from EA for doing this vid which buy the way was beyond lame.
I bought metal instead of collecting it
It's fine. You can sell items to get back the simoleons you used.
I know but
I have to go to school
Novatooooo!!!!!!
Hacked......
+All Your Blocks why are you talking in third person view
+All Your Blocks no I don't care to catch up sorry I just clicked on a Google image trying to figure out why there's a whit plumbob floating above my contest of mayors tower
Max Jenks - Because it's funny. Look at your original comment ;)
+Max Jenks Because that TH-camr has a sense of humor!
