    Online Teaching is a great place to start for Stay-at-home-Moms looking for a work-from-home job. Within the online teaching world, teaching ESL - English as a Second Language - online is the perfect spot for the Mom without a degree or experience.
    In this video, I share 5 of my favorite ESL platforms for 2023. These platforms have great reviews and teachers are happy!
    Important to note not every platform is hiring every day. They may accept your application but will hold onto it for months. These platforms don't onboard new online teachers until their online class numbers call for it. This is great news for you as a new online teacher! It means you're much more likely to get bookings than on other platforms that hire and onboard every day.
    also important to note that some of the platforms today do require a degree. The degree DOES NOT have to be in education! It can be a degree in anything! So, if you're a mama with a college degree, those platforms are available for you as well!

    No feedback is necessary for Cambly, but I will say from experience with Cambly Kids, parents very much love some type of short summary about the class and skills accomplished/worked on. I believe this is one thing that has gotten me repeat bookings! It doesn't have to be elaborate, but a short paragraph goes a long way with parents. 😊 I also love Cambly better than alot of other companies because there's no penalty or pressure for not getting to every single slide. ❤

    Hi Allyson. Thanks for video. For StarKid, do you think a TEFL certificate, more than 2 years online teaching experience already and an A level qualification will be enough to be accepted? It's not a proper degree so to speak, but it is a post high school qualification in high level Business Studies.
    Thanks

      Great question! Their requirements technically say a bachelor's degree is required. But, I also know that when you're applying they ask you to include a resume. I don't know how lenient they are in their selection process. The application isn't long - I just completed it myself - so if you want to try it shouldn't take too much time. I'm sorry I don't have a more concrete answer! If you do decide to apply, keep me posted! I'd love to have a better answer for others in the future 💜

    Thank you for this video, Allyson. So, just to be clear, China now allows ESL teachers located outside China to teach students online? I'm a little confused about this. thank you!

    • @onlineteacherallyson
      @onlineteacherallyson  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! Great question! They don't officially allow teachers located outside China to teach online (unless the laws have changed again) - the families are finding back doors because fluency in English is still highly desired. Last week I taught an adult class, but my student was 11 years old. I've also heard cases of families using VPNs or mailing addresses outside of China so they can enroll in the classes.
      Within this video, the platforms don't focus on learners in China.
      - Cambly is worldwide - I've had large amounts of students from the Middle East in my Cambly classes.
      - Starkid is based out of Hong Kong
      - Fluentbe is European based
      - Open English has students mostly in Latin America
      - VIPKid (bonus in this video) - is pivoting to VIPTeacher. The learners they do have are still mostly based in China but they are trying to get away from that and become more global as well.

    • @onlineteacherallyson
      @onlineteacherallyson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Cambly is a great platform for teachers who just want to work as their schedule allows. I haven't opened up slots on Cambly in several months but could open up a few today if I wanted.
      Yes, Cambly does give lesson plans, but there is also a free talk section so just make sure you are opening up times for their lessons and not for the free talk call-in - there will be a box to check in the schedule for it once you get in.

    • @onlineteacherallyson
      @onlineteacherallyson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok so I can think of 2 more things.
      1. Make sure whatever internet plan you’re paying for supports the needed speed. We pay for the gig plan ourselves because we’re constantly streaming something.
      2. If the plan you’re paying for supports it check on the health of your router. I just learned that they get old and need to get replaced 😅.
      If all that’s good contact your internet service provider and see why you aren’t getting the speed you’re supposed to be getting

If I wanted, I could edit it now. But, usually, demo videos can't be edited once they're submitted since they want to see what you can do - but you can edit and redo all you want before submission! 💜

    • @onlineteacherallyson
      @onlineteacherallyson  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's so relevant depending on what you're booking on Cambly. Cambly Kids pays more than Free Talk. If you choose Free Talk, you can still earn more with the Priority Hours - and the pay is different pretty often. It also depends on how much you make yourself available to work!
      However, a lot of teachers are able to make $200-$300 USD a week, so about $800-$1200 a month.
      There's also those teachers that _really_ grind and make more than that. In the end, it's what you make it and what work you put into it 💜

    • @onlineteacherallyson

      According to the requirements on their hiring page, they only require "1 year experience teaching English to foreigners". It doesn't say anything specific about requiring a Bachelor's degree. Once you get into the application, there is a space to select any teaching qualifications you have (like a degree), but there's also a spot to check if you don't have any.

I look at these opportunities as a way to bring in a bit more income so I am able to stay home with my son and spend more time with him! I decided the salary wasn't worth it once that little baby was in my hands. I know everybody has different opinions on working full time and budgets so online teaching isn't for everybody! This video is for people, like me, who are looking for a way to stay home or bring home just a little extra cash.

    Per hour, not per class.

    • @onlineteacherallyson
      @onlineteacherallyson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most online platforms don’t pay by the hour though. In some cases you can generalize - like Cambly - but others it’s way too complicated for a video. The others vary their pay based on the length of the class. In an hour you could teach a 40 minute and a 20 minute class. Or 3 20 minute classes. Or 2 30 minute classes.
      I wanted to say by the hour because that’s how I think too! If I make videos for a specific platform like this I’ll have more time to give a more generalized hourly rate.
      Thanks for watching! 💜
