An excellent choice for the first inductee, Brian. I nominate the Lamy Safari. It's significant for being such a common first pen for European schoolchildren. For innovation, I point to the interchangeable nib. What other pen - short of a dip pen - can change nibs that easily? Aesthetics: It has an uncommon clip, Bauhaus design, and the flat sides to guide fingers to the right place. And how many colours does it have? Utility: Relatively large ink capacity, especially in the cartridges, prominent ink windows, and those interchangeable nibs - they even make it easier to clean! Writing experience: while every pen will have its detractors, the Safari is a practically perfect workhorse. All the nib sizes are smooth, but the Broad nib is amazing in its smoothness. It glides over the paper so effortlessly. Pure heaven. I'm sure the Lamy Safari will take its rightful place as the second pen inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The VP is my go-to fountain pen. I love my Lamy 2000 but I only have one of those whereas I have half a dozen of the VPs (cannot resist the various materials/colourways). For functionality, (relative) affordability for a gold nib pen, ease of use, beautiful writing experience and exciting colour range - the VP is absolute. No other retractable pen comes close!
I have the vintage (70's) broad nib, and the modern mate black Vanishing point, they are both lovely writers and extremely functional for every day work. The Vintage one was a new old stock (never used and with a retirement certificate and original box with original push pump converter) that writers as smooth as glass, and the feel in the hand is perfect because is thinner than the modern one, and the lower clip (the clip is part of the hood, one piece) doesn't interfere with the grip.
I sure did! Made it myself out of curly sugar maple that was felled locally here in Richmond Va, with steel rods connecting the top and bottom. -Brian Goulet

But today I got an ever better experience...a non-FP using friend who finds my obsession with them hilarious was standing next to me, and her comment was that "Those guys are pretty adorable. Love the hall of fame idea. My first choice matched yours. I love my Vanishing Point. I was surprised that Brian's choice wasn't the Lamy 2000. But the Vanishing Point was a groundbreaking innovation that probably put it over the edge for the design and build of the 2000. There are some wonderful pens out there but the Vanishing Point met all the qualifications. I'm glad it was first. I was so intrigued by a retractable that it really started my return to using fountain pens after 20 plus years. I love mine and my next one will have the stub nib. Great Choice!
That is a great first selection. I have this very pen and it gets rotated in with regularity. The finish is smooth now from such regular use. I’ve never tried an ink that didn’t work flawlessly in this pen. Pilot’s customer service cannot be undersold. Mine had issues with the finish and the converter had gotten persnickety. I sent it back to them for repair and they sent a new pen. No issues with this new one that I’ve had for close to six years now.
The vanishing point is one of the most expensive pens I own (even if it's just the stainless steel nib version) and also my favorite everyday carry pen. Happy to see it be the first in the hall of fame! I hope to one day upgrade it with a gold nib from Goulet 😉

We all have our favorites; but I just can't argue with the Pilot/Namiki Vanishing Point. I have a Namiki Vanishing Point whose age I don't know, but it was passed on to me by a friend in about 1999, so it can't be any newer than that. And, I've been told just now that its production run was 1994-99, so there we are. It does have the old squeeze bar converter. Nice pen!
I like the Hall of Fame idea and enjoyed watching it. My favorite content from Goulet usually revolves around celebrating pens: this, pen battles, top 5s. Good stuff.
Neat idea for a video. I'd like to put forth for your consideration the TWSBI Eco. Second, the Pilot Metropolitan. I think the Metro. is one of the best starter fountain pens.

Having my first pen over $100 that I purchased be the first inductee into this hall of fame feels vindicating. I was so certain it was going to be the Lamy 2000 too, because that was what I was going to buy, but then found I struggled with finding that sweet spot (I figured out why later). I love my Pilot VP! I started with an XF nib and found it too scratchy so swapped to a medium and fell in love with it! When I feel more confident I'll smooth out my XF nib and try it again.
I was about to critique Brian for being so bold as to open a fountain pen hall of fame, and then I saw the pen on the desk at 1:30 and realized I own that exact model (all black Vanishing Point). Brian has good taste, I can't disagree with his conclusions.

Perhaps one with each of the changing seasons. 2. Special discounts of say 10- 20 % for a limited time, like one week, or one month, or maybe the discount goes to the first 10 or 20 or 100 customers to make a purchase after the episode airs or whatever works for you, but I see it as a way to created even more interest in what I am sure will be a series of great pens.

I only have one thing to say *ahem*: MOAAAR!!!!!!! Also, something from Pilot, a company synonymous with all things pen, seems wildly appropriate for the first inductee.🎉
As much as I love the Lamy 2000 and Pilot 823, the VP is off the charts for innovation, and rates well on the other factors too, so can't argue with it. I own a Fermo (twist VP) and LS (silent click/twist) and actually prefer them both to the dominant models, so the innovation rating for me is x3!
My first choice would be the Pelikan M800. I've had mine since the mid-1990s. It is just the right size, (the M1000 is too large in my opinion,) and it is a workhorse. It never skips, it lays down ink at the first touch to the paper, no matter how long since it was last used. Mine is the blue with black stripes with a fine nib, and I think it is a beautiful pen.
🤣 It's a great idea. I'd definitely attend the evening gala at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles each and every year. And Brian must wear a tux! GO TFPHOF!

I’m watching this video while I happen to be journaling… with my VP decimo =]. One thing I love about the VP is that when I’m taking notes at work where writing is sometimes intermittent, I don’t have to cap and uncap a pen repeatedly to keep the nib from drying out since I can click it back in 🖋️ I really hate the limited edition thing though. I have a couple VPs but I would really like to be able to buy my favorite color. But what are the chances that my favorite ever color will be available when I want to buy it? Virtually zero. I find this sort of marketing technique pretty dumb and disappointing as a customer and it leads me to more resentment than anything else. I just bought a couple standard edition ones used and they’ve become my best buds.
I find that the PROs of the VP far outweigh the CON [-40]. I love my Vanishing Points! My first was the blue/gold and I bought the 2022 red coral with rhodium-plating. My blue VP always has either Pilot Iroshizuku Asa-gao or Noodler's Liberty's Elysium in it, and my red coral stays filled with Pilot Iroshizuku Momoji. Congrats Pilot VP for becoming the first member of the Goulet Pens Hall of Fame!
Great idea and great first winner. I still cant understand how Pilot has made the tiny nib write so well! Gorgeous and practical pen. I love lots of fountain pen brands, but am hoping the TWSBI is included (any of them), the Kweco sport, and as it gets very little love often Pelican Stressman pens - they write so well - smooth and wet - and are a classic design. Obviously Pilot, Sailor, Platinum, Namiki, Visconti would be expected to make an appearance, but please include at least one truely 'crazy' pen!

This is so fun! As is the pen case. I'm so glad to have acquired my first vanishing point this week (a limited edition with the serial number 84 because I thought of Drew & Brian). Love that Brian is wearing a Pilot tshirt too.
I call that Lamy 2000, Pilot Custom 823, Montblanc 149 and at least one pelikan souverän line pen (or m200) will land here, along with beginner favourites like the safari, preppy and metropolitan etc.
Yay! I was going to suggest the VP. It's my favorite pen, though ink capacity makes me sad. IDK how long it's been in production but the Visconti HS was my other idea. It's my grail pen (that I'm getting soon, yay!).

As much as I love the Lamy 2000 and Pilot 823, the VP is off the charts for innovation, and rates well on the other factors too, so can't argue with it. I own a Fermo (twist VP) and LS (silent click/twist) and actually prefer them both to the dominant models, so the innovation rating for me is x3!
My first choice would be the Pelikan M800. I've had mine since the mid-1990s. It is just the right size, (the M1000 is too large in my opinion,) and it is a workhorse. It never skips, it lays down ink at the first touch to the paper, no matter how long since it was last used. Mine is the blue with black stripes with a fine nib, and I think it is a beautiful pen.

I have the Decimo. It’s the perfect size for me. I’d nominate the LAMY Safari for the Hall. It passes your requirements.

Lamy 2000 is a true icon in the FP world, it is by far my favorite pen! I own four of them😁
I’m watching this video while I happen to be journaling… with my VP decimo =]. One thing I love about the VP is that when I’m taking notes at work where writing is sometimes intermittent, I don’t have to cap and uncap a pen repeatedly to keep the nib from drying out since I can click it back in 🖋️
I really hate the limited edition thing though. I have a couple VPs but I would really like to be able to buy my favorite color. But what are the chances that my favorite ever color will be available when I want to buy it? Virtually zero. I find this sort of marketing technique pretty dumb and disappointing as a customer and it leads me to more resentment than anything else. I just bought a couple standard edition ones used and they’ve become my best buds.
I find that the PROs of the VP far outweigh the CON [-40].
I love my Vanishing Points! My first was the blue/gold and I bought the 2022 red coral with rhodium-plating. My blue VP always has either Pilot Iroshizuku Asa-gao or Noodler's Liberty's Elysium in it, and my red coral stays filled with Pilot Iroshizuku Momoji.

Great idea and great first winner. I still cant understand how Pilot has made the tiny nib write so well! Gorgeous and practical pen. I love lots of fountain pen brands, but am hoping the TWSBI is included (any of them), the Kweco sport, and as it gets very little love often Pelican Stressman pens - they write so well - smooth and wet - and are a classic design. Obviously Pilot, Sailor, Platinum, Namiki, Visconti would be expected to make an appearance, but please include at least one truely 'crazy' pen!

This is so fun! As is the pen case. I'm so glad to have acquired my first vanishing point this week (a limited edition with the serial number 84 because I thought of Drew & Brian). Love that Brian is wearing a Pilot tshirt too.

I call that Lamy 2000, Pilot Custom 823, Montblanc 149 and at least one pelikan souverän line pen (or m200) will land here, along with beginner favourites like the safari, preppy and metropolitan etc.
Yay! I was going to suggest the VP. It's my favorite pen, though ink capacity makes me sad. IDK how long it's been in production but the Visconti HS was my other idea. It's my grail pen (that I'm getting soon, yay!).
