- When we think about cartel bosses, we almost always think of one group of people - men.
But this misses out on key parts of the story. Across Latin America women have been rising through the cartel ranks - taking command, making millions and committing terrifying acts of violence just like their male counterparts.
We look at some of these untold women’s stories - while also examining how the War on Drugs impacts women’s lives across Latin America.

That is definitely interesting, I think some of it might have to do with their sons getting killed or arrested before they can amass as much power, but the daughters are protected in the shadows till the time comes.

In my neighborhood it was the grandmas who ran these criminal enterprises. Their sons totally protected them and would admit to the crimes themselves and do prison time if they were caught.

I've only just caught up with this series and I must say that it is incredibly interesting and very well put together. It's also not hard to recognise the undertone that the war on drugs has failed and accompanied by a strong inference that it should be ended. The thing is that this logic is very simplistic and the scale of the problem now is so immense that simply ceasing it will do very little. Decriminalisation is quite a reasonable approach to look after users, who are ultimately addicts in most cases, and the opportunity to improve their quality of life impacts the wider society. But the gangs, crime bosses and corrupted officials won't want the money to end. The violence will remain. A dual approach is required and this can't be summed up in a short video.

I'm so glad I don't live in Latin America anymore. I feel much safer. At the same time I feel bad for all my fellow latinas suffering at the hand of bad men. The femicide statistics in Latin America are quite disturbing.

The war on drugs is so stupid on so many levels. We need to work to legalize drug trade and help these communities out with legal and safe sources of income.
Education too. I mean just the amount of people who are blindly walking into even caffeine addictions/dependences simply because they don't know any better is insane. They are clearly only doing it because of a lack of understanding on how receptor-binding drugs work and the major issues with just tolerance and withdrawal alone.
If people were even just moderately pharmacologically literate we wouldn't have all this misuse of substances. We live in a drug-loving culture that has no idea how to use them. When I look at the incalculable amount of damage the war on drugs has done, ignorance about how to use substances is one of the first things to stick out to me.

In fact ESPECIALLY the dangerous ones. How are you gonna say dangerous things shouldn't be regulated? That can never be justified bro.
If you think heroin is bad and dangerous that should make you want it to be legalized even more since it being illegal makes it FAR more dangerous. Same with cocaine and amphetamines and all these other "hard drugs". There is literally no urgency or moral dilemma surrounding the legalization of mushrooms bro. You don't have scores of people dying or falling into darkness and addiction because of mushrooms obviously. Only way to lessen heroin use and damage is legalization and education. Or even just access to other strong opioids like oxy or morphine instead.
Let's also not forget that the most dangerous drugs (more dangerous than heroin or coke) are already legal; alcohol, tobacco, datura, brugmansia, etc.

Here in Portugal they have been decriminalized for personal use and although there aren't as much people on hard drugs as before, people still OD, people still get hooked and people still ruin their lives. You stupid? Dealers are users and vice versa. When your in active addiction most will sell some drugs to pay for their own addiction. Whether that means middle manning a deal or straight up ripping people off reselling. If you legalize and regulate as suggested dealers would not exist for regulated drugs as they can't compete.

Remember seeing a Cartel Video of 6 women who got their throat sliced. They were all in their knees with their hands and feet tied up. Some of them were topless. They were informants for the rival cartel. After they got their throat sliced they were kicked to the ground and a group of men with axes 🪓 started cutting their limbs with impressive precision. I am sure that wasn’t the first time they did something like that. After they were dismembered the gathered all the limbs and heads and piled up everything into a neatly small mountain 🏔️ of human’s remains. 🥶
