It was fun just watching all the drivers and for a new to the slot car racing again I learned a lot by watching. Congratulations to all the teams.

I'd have to say that, at least for now, it looks like brushed motors still have the overall advantage when it comes to slot cars. Brushless tech has the advantage in some applications, especially with larger motors, but slot cars, I'm not seeing it. "Newer" isn't always necessarily better.

Thank you for your interest! These cars have well over 5000 laps on the esc and motors. Brushed motors would not be that consistent after all those laps if they lasted that long to begin with.

@@brushlessslotcarracing I have brushed motors with way more laps than that. I bet I have cars that are older than you.
The only longevity advantage that brushless motors have is they don't wear out brushes or coms (and I've yet to have a com wear out). That's inconsequential as they are so easy and cheap as to be no issue. Consistency isn't an issue in slot cars, only performance at the moment. When we start running 5000 lap enduros, come talk to me. Economics is a big part of this consideration.
I've looked at this in depth and there's just no real advantage to brushless tech in the slot car hobby but there _are_ a few drawbacks and physical limitations. No coil can pack the magnetic strength of a permanent magnet in to that small a space without blowing the power issue and the heat limits. I'll leave all the switching to the track power supply instead of the car.
I'm sorry but I've done the cost/benefit analysis and when it comes to the slot car hobby, no matter how you slice it, brushed motors still have the advantage. That could change in the future but I don't see how.

Did everyone run 11/37? Any one try different gearing?

The cars were setup as a spec class with that gearing. They will run faster with a bigger 13 tooth pinion. Testing showed them running 2.8-9 second laps.
