My favourite is Rosana, I just love how the opening line trips off the tongue but the vocal range is very enjoyable as well plus that instrumental jazzy outro. This band definitely deserved to be a lot bigger than they were. So great to see and hear the praise for session musicians. While they get a credit when they contribute, they don't get THE credit they should. This was from an era when I felt so much music coming from America was well-written, well-performed and just so great to listen to.

These guys were all over Michael Jackson’s Thriller album…the synth player wrote “human nature” which is a *serious* highlight and Steve (the guitarist) played most of those funky guitar licks that everyone knows to this day. Regarding this tune, “hold the line”, I’m always impressed during the chorus. How any dude can hit those highest harmonies with any sense of musicality is completely beyond me. I can squeak my way up to an E on my very best days and this is obviously higher than that…at least an F-F#.

My favorite Toto song is Roseanna. Vocals are shared between Steve Lukather, the guitar player, and Bobby Kimball, the lead singer you so raved about. The drummer, Jeff Porcaro, does some interesting fills that are sort of unique to him and drum students learn this as the Porcaro shuffle. Pretty cool! Another more subdued song is “99”. Thank you for reacting to this song, I've been a fan of this band for many years now, and have so many favourite songs, they have done quite a lot of albums with many great songs on them, so it's hard to choose one. I highly recommend going to see them live, even though there is only two original members Steve Lukather ( guitar ) and Joe Williams ( singer who occasionally, but now permanently replaced Bobby Kimball who's in this video ) they are still a great band to see live. I understand they will be touring Europe ( hopefully UK ) in 2023/24 with Journey supporting them. Bobby was a fantastic singer but now sadly suffers with dementia.

Toto is such a versatile virtuosic band of several different influences: R&B, Soul, Jazz and of course Hard Rock. Some of their songs contain just one or two of these things, while others - like this song and especially "Rosanna" - are a combination of all the above. Also, with "Hold The Line," Toto literally pioneered the use of the piano / keyboard riff along with Hard Rock guitar, and directly influenced Jefferson Starship to do that on their amazing Hard Rock songs "Jane" and "Find Your Way Back." (Keyboardist David Freiberg admitted this in a recent interview.) Toto is a very unique band that really bridged genres and every single one of their 6 original members were absolute virtuosos at their respective instruments.

Favourite Toto song, difficult to split Africa, Hold the line and Rosanna, all 3 haven't aged at all.

I can't remember one track on their Turn Back album that got any significant airplay. A shame, every song is a masterpiece .

THIS is my fave Toto song … by far! Sure, maybe its not as sophisticated and famous as Rosanna or Africa, but this one just sounds better and hits harder, to me.

Bobby Kimball is one of the greatest singers of his time. And, dear Beth, if You would analyze any Toto song, Bobby sang, You'd have work for the next years... 🙂

Seems that most folks, like myself, have the same three favorite songs (Hold the Line, Rosanna, and Africa) but I'll add "Stranger in Town" to my list. It's a different singer (Dennis Frederiksen/RIP) but the music/production is awesome. "I won't hold you back" is another great one that a lot of folks missed.
