I also do think at least to do some degree it would have done very well even if it had not released on GamePass if all the other factors remained in play (shadow drop and no marketing campaign).

It's indeed a lazy and generic twist. And completely more shit if it's not done correctly. For example fallout 4 the character was looking for Shaun his son and the entire time Shaun had already grown up old. Your character was the chosen one and potential person, you have to make the hard choices of picking factions. The minutemen, institute and or the brother hood of steel. However I'd guess most people would've picked brother hood of steel for the power armor and such benefits of the vertibird. But I choose the institute to follow old Shaun's ideals and rebuilding the world with the high technology of the institute.
When I first saw Forspoken, I was like, "Ah, Devil May Cry but I'm a wizard." How far this game fell short of that is the biggest oof for me. I paid real dollars for this thing.
I think it's a fun game, nice graphics, interesting gameplay, fast action and a wide variety of spells. The conversation of the main character and others is no worse than that of many other games, such as dragon dogma, dragon age, assassins creed, etc. Sometimes better, the development of the main character and how she views the world and herself is fine. But hey, I'm a 70 year old gamer who has been playing games for 42 years and still enjoys them.
Part of the fun that games like GoW and Elden Ring is the learning curve of the combat. Pulling off combos in GoW and figuring out the Dodge/Parry timing for Elden Ring+GoW for example is so satisfying once you learn them and Forspoken just goes the route of mash your way to victory.
In every video game u smash ur way to victory in god of war u smash ur runic attacks till the boss is dead and in elden ring u use summons and run around in a circle till it beats the boss for u😂😂

I dig the concept as someone who likes watching isekai type anime. However, this game looks rushed with a heaving handful of bad creative direction.

yeah we don't have a lot of games with good traversal. We always have walking or horse simulator. I hope they still use all the gameplay mechanics in a more polished game. It don't even need a story. Gameplay > Story for me anyway. If bad gameplay I will just watch it in youtube.

From the very first trailer of Forspoken, I knew it was a game to avoid. One of my biggest pet-peeves with modern gaming is a main character that constantly talks.
I wouldn’t consider that abomination video game related considering Jade isn’t a character from the game. But I digress, she can’t catch a break period 😂
I personally hate the over-use of silent protagonists. They're often used as the default choice, even in games where the character has their own personality. And then Forspoken was so kind as to demonstrate what the *complete opposite* of a silent protagonist sounds like.
Guess this game is even worse than cyberpunk 2077. That game was trash at launch and yet its getting its own sequel while this in just a month is totally out of the competition
I have over 8 years old PC. Because of that I don't play most new games. When I saw Forspoken for 70$ (over 300 in my currency) I was like "Not gonna happend. Too much money for a game I know nothing about". Sometimes I hate my old PC but sometimes its a good thing.
All the hate this game gets is crazy. It’s actually pretty fun. Dialogue isn’t great, that’s true, but I have been playing for about 40 hours and it’s fun. Story is kind of weak, but the gameplay is pretty good. Not worth $70 bucks, I agree, but I use GameFly, so for a rental, it’s worth playing.

I have heard of this game and bought the game for $18 on amazon 2 days ago without doing any research on the game. I regret not doing so now. The spells in combat is like a consumable drug I can get high on dopamine until it expires. It had me on the power level from the trailer until it becomes auto drive, but it’s stupid fun for me that ends quickly when I’m fighting enemies. Boring and simple punching bags I can test on until idc. On a different game with the flashy and variety of spells, it’s satisfying for me to play with for hours.
So one day to play the whole game, didn’t fully understand how to use the combat correctly, didn’t do the mutants or side quest, didn’t play on hard mode and joke the dialogue the entire video as if it’s not a a GAME. But l it’s worse than you thought” this is a terrible review.

No one’s surprised that majority white cyst men are leaving poor reviews on a game with a black female protagonist. I’ve put in over 50 hours of game play and am still finding new parts of the game. The graphics are amazing, the storyline is rich! Okay some dialogue is redundant. Should that discredit the rest of the amazingly stunning work of art. Feels like you're reaallyy shoving in that Elden Ring and God of War comparison. This game does not resemble either of those in any way except for the fact that it is an action adventure RPG set in a medieval fantasy world. You could pick any RPGs but for some reason chose to keep making that comparison to GOW and Elden Ring. Why? I agree largely with the review but that comparison feels very forced. Forspoken is a shit game but I don't think it was trying to copy GOW/Elden Ring like you're making it out to be.

(DC cinematic universe comes to mind) but the main issue is, a story isnt about all the events. its about character. if you cant get the viewer, reader, player invested in the character, you failed. there is not story worth sitting through. The original superman movies worked well even with all powerful character. because the story wasnt about those powers. it was about the character. the powers were just the wrapping to tie it all together. and a game world and setting can be a compelling character as well if the world has a story to tell. something that keeps the audience wanting to know more. game play can tell a compelling story. the powers and abilities and the reason you use the controls the way its set up. The game Okami does this very well with its painting combat system. i couldn't tell from the video what the combat system was trying to be. it didnt seem like it was interesting game play.
I rarely nitpick about character design, i believe everything has artistic aspect but not only the protag swears so much she isn't even pretty to at least compensate her horrible character.
Its sad because the actual actress seems like such a sweet girl and, like you said, she did the best she could do with the material given. I just hope the negative press of this project doesn’t harm her future job prospects because she deserves a better shot at this 🙏🏼
I like that you noticed that the voice actors did their job. The problem is that if script sucks you can get the best actors but story will not get much better. One of the problems with this game is in its writing. There are of course other issues.
Forspoken is actually really good and hella fun. I'm glad I didn't listen to the reviews & tried it for myself after enjoying the demo. If you like infamous, prototype or Spellbreak you will LOVE this game. The combat & parkour is 9/10 & the story is actually really interesting

There's an interview with one of the credited writers where he mentioned there was an original game story concept they worked on but was ultimately rebooted by square enix and in the aftermath neither him nor amy hennig(who i assume u were talking about?) had much if anything to do with the new story and especially the dialogue.

I'm not defending the game or anything but you keep saying it "copied Elden Ring" yet they were in development at the same time. Both were being developed for years. It's not like they decided to make it once Elden Ring released.

From the very first trailer of Forspoken, I knew it was a game to avoid. One of my biggest pet-peeves with modern gaming is a main character that constantly talks.

I personally hate the over-use of silent protagonists. They're often used as the default choice, even in games where the character has their own personality.
And then Forspoken was so kind as to demonstrate what the *complete opposite* of a silent protagonist sounds like.
Guess this game is even worse than cyberpunk 2077. That game was trash at launch and yet its getting its own sequel while this in just a month is totally out of the competition
I have over 8 years old PC. Because of that I don't play most new games.
When I saw Forspoken for 70$ (over 300 in my currency) I was like "Not gonna happend. Too much money for a game I know nothing about".

All the hate this game gets is crazy. It’s actually pretty fun. Dialogue isn’t great, that’s true, but I have been playing for about 40 hours and it’s fun. Story is kind of weak, but the gameplay is pretty good. Not worth $70 bucks, I agree, but I use GameFly, so for a rental, it’s worth playing.
I liked the abilities, thats unfortunate, dont think I will get it. i really don't understand how they can make this type of mistake in 2023. you can consult, crowd source ideas, release a beta to creators and get opinions. man this was something else

I have heard of this game and bought the game for $18 on amazon 2 days ago without doing any research on the game. I regret not doing so now. The spells in combat is like a consumable drug I can get high on dopamine until it expires. It had me on the power level from the trailer until it becomes auto drive, but it’s stupid fun for me that ends quickly when I’m fighting enemies. Boring and simple punching bags I can test on until idc. On a different game with the flashy and variety of spells, it’s satisfying for me to play with for hours.

No one’s surprised that majority white cyst men are leaving poor reviews on a game with a black female protagonist. I’ve put in over 50 hours of game play and am still finding new parts of the game. The graphics are amazing, the storyline is rich! Okay some dialogue is redundant. Should that discredit the rest of the amazingly stunning work of art. The disrespect this game received is a poor excuse to promote underlying racism and sexism.

Feels like you're reaallyy shoving in that Elden Ring and God of War comparison. This game does not resemble either of those in any way except for the fact that it is an action adventure RPG set in a medieval fantasy world. i feel like they might have been able to tell that same story better but, it seems like even major movies cant tell that sort of story right. (DC cinematic universe comes to mind)
but the main issue is, a story isnt about all the events. its about character. if you cant get the viewer, reader, player invested in the character, you failed. there is not story worth sitting through.
The original superman movies worked well even with all powerful character. because the story wasnt about those powers. it was about the character. the powers were just the wrapping to tie it all together.
and a game world and setting can be a compelling character as well if the world has a story to tell. something that keeps the audience wanting to know more.
game play can tell a compelling story. the powers and abilities and the reason you use the controls the way its set up.
The game Okami does this very well with its painting combat system.

I like that you noticed that the voice actors did their job. The problem is that if script sucks you can get the best actors but story will not get much better. One of the problems with this game is in its writing. There are of course other issues.
This review is basically what i feel about the Horizon zero dawn games, very pretty extremely boring.
Forspoken is actually really good and hella fun. I'm glad I didn't listen to the reviews & tried it for myself after enjoying the demo. If you like infamous, prototype or Spellbreak you will LOVE this game. The combat & parkour is 9/10 & the story is actually really interesting

There's an interview with one of the credited writers where he mentioned there was an original game story concept they worked on but was ultimately rebooted by square enix and in the aftermath neither him nor amy hennig(who i assume u were talking about?) had much if anything to do with the new story and especially the dialogue.
@Waywardwind wasn't Amy henning that i talked to. It was one of the writers to the new script that didn't work. Some chick with the named Rhianna Pratchett, she worked also on Mirrors Edge.
