Thank you so much!!! This video might have saved my marriage, just joking, but not really… We just installed new vinyl plank floors (like today 😬) and I got a little impatient moving the furniture back, and totally scratched up the floor. After a slight (ok, major) panic, I googled what to do, watched this video, looked up where to buy the pens, and ran to Walmart, since it was after 9pm. Worked like a charm! My husband has no idea where the scratches are. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!
My boyfriend thought it was a great idea to move my couch that has metal legs after having a few beers by my patio since I have a ocean view and totally scratched up my floor and tried to hide it with carpet I guess he figured I would find out so he lifted the rug and showed me and boy o boy lol I'm so glad I found a solution
I read this thinking you were a man worried about your wife’s reaction, and i was very impressed and surprised that a man would be so thoughtful and careful, but then i kept reading. And im like, of course, only a woman would care this much. im sorry you were so worried about some scratches on the floor potentially affecting your marriage. I hope one day more males and husbands can be as thoughtful as their wives have to be
Thanks for this video man! I was so pissed to get my first scratch on my floor. Unfortunately it is across the grain, but knowing this option is out there, made my day better. 🙏🏼
Been binge watching your vids.. I've tried markers, crayons, etc to no avail. You really saved me from having a full OCD meltdown with this one. Thank you!
Happy your enjoying the vids! Hopefully the stain pens work for you, it’s always best to go a bit lighter than u may thing and have a wet rag handy to furiously wipe it off if you’ve gone too dark. Those crayon are terrible! If you have a deep gouge that needs filling your best bet is a wood filler that is close in colour that you can stain when it dries.
Great info. Great info!! Have laminate flooring in the RV with the grain running perpendicular to the slides which have left scratches over the years. Just used a can of stain that was on hand and rubbed it into the scratches and then wiped with dry and then wet paper towel like you suggested and the scratches are GONE. I can only detect them looking from the right angle. Thanks!
I would have liked to see the camera come in closer to see the scratch and then the fill with the marker. It’s hard to see from this distance anything at all but thanks for the idea I will try that.
Helpful video! But moms gunna be home in like an hour so I'm just gunna mix the colors with acrylic and try to fix it the best I can lol(my brother, dad, and i just had the floor put in and needed to move the fridge back, and oops)
This was great! I ordered your recommendation from Amazon. I bought a new electric scooter and the heavy box scratched and scuffed up my vinyl tiles. Hopefully it'll take out the long scuff, scratch mark I have. Ordered golden oak as the tiles are several diff shades of brown.
Also make sure you use your nail or something soft to get the abrased clear coat off. Coloring the fuzzy stuff hides it but not as much as getting it off.
Hi, I'm trying to find information on how to varnish outdated laminate flooring but there's so many mixed opinions & information that it's hard to distinguish fact from opinion from technique from product. The only varnish I've found that can be used on laminate is V33 clear floor varnish for wood & laminate. The main obvious issue with laminate is that it moves which isn't good when varnishing as it will crack at joints. The laminate in question is at my student let so aesthetics isn't priority but important. My idea is to pin the laminate down with inconspicuous fixings at joints to the wooden subfloor. Lightly sand then clean with turps to remove grease. Then dilute polyurethane varnish to a watery consistency & go over the laminate several times. Idea is that this will be thin enough to penetrate the joints, damaged areas & harden the HDF. Then I plan to do 2 coats with the V33 varnish. Would this work? Your expertise would be highly appreciated.
wd-40 saved my ass a couple of times when I got a scratch on the white oak. just spray it on the floor and wipe it off lightly. It doesn't last forever but it's enough to get away from troubles...
The secret is twofold. First make sure all scratches are WITH the grain. Second, always keep a big supply of extra planks to replace the planks with cross grain scratches.
This got me out of a new home where the cheapo builder choose to use a discounted out-of-production flooring and the appliance installers weren't even qualified to be ditch-diggers. We would have had to redo darn near 800 sqft otherwise, missing the closing date and incurring expenses because of that. I don't like this type of flooring because it's not really repairable, ie it's a temporary flooring which will have to be replaced sooner or later. Real hardwood costs more up front but it's a forever floor which makes it worth it. Ditto for tile in baths and kitchens done before the cabinets go in so future remodels don't expose untiled areas. Even if you save some pieces and the repair is at a convenient edge (and it's usually in the middle meaning removing half the floor to fix one plank), the new won't match the worn and UV-by-sunlight affected old. You can swap pieces to put the new in a less conspicuous spot but the problem is just moved and is still there. If the color is close enough but the sheen is too much and stands out, gently rubbing the new piece with 4/0 steel wool sometimes 'wears' the sheen artificially for a better match. Gentle and slow here rubbing in large circles, and checking your progress till you get the best finish match.
I have solid hardwood flooring that comes out of the box with a clear coat. My dog has made all kinds of little scratches all over the clear coat but not in the wood itself. What would you recommend?
the scratches in the video seem deeper, how would you remove superficial (less obvious) scratches from vinyl planks? any spray, product you can recommend?
Those little stain pens work well for any type of scratch. If it's more of a gouge then some wood filler may required. Cheers and wishing you and yours a very happy 2021!
@@TheFunnyCarpenter I asked about spray/product/polish because I'm looking for something that I can run all across the floor with a sponge/mop as there are many light scratches and a pen would be very time consuming
We are moving out on an apartment that has cheap laminate wood floors that are easily scuffed, not scratched. Is there a way to put a shine of something over it so we don't get charged when we move out? It's not even our fault, it's just that the floors are so damn cheap that even chairs with felt on the bottom leave scuffs.
If you lay tile and save 2-3 tiles, you have a floor that requires maintenance about once every 10 years to redo the grout, and even at that you can probably just give it a light abrasive cleaning to refresh it. If you can get a nice engineered hardwood that is light in colour and perhaps has some distressed elements that wears nicely, you have a floor that will last a lifetime, assuming it doesn't get water damage.
@@TheFunnyCarpenter any advice on products that can be used to clean engineered wood and anything we can put on it right away in a new home e.g. some wax/polish etc. to protect it?
LifeProof brand vinyl plank flooring is SO specific what can and can’t be used without damaging the integrity of the surface color. Can anyone confirm that these work with LifeProof without causing problems?
I looked up reviews for this and a lot say it doesn't dry and remains sticky. I am wondering if it's because it's meant for WOOD flooring and not vinyl. Wood is porous, vinyl is not. I am looking for something for VINYL flooring scratch repair! Not to mention who has a perfect scratch/s going with the grain. Unfortunately, my furniture decided on a different direction.
What about surface scratches from my dog? Everywhere! She's a rat terrier and she prances around like a deer! No we can't cut her nails, unless we have a death wish. Even Petco said the won't cut her nails!
Obviously- but this isn’t a fix, just a cover of a surface scratch. Most of the damage on my engineered hardwood floors are deep gouges. They would still be noticeable after being coloured in with this product.

I fix my laminate in a similar way using brown Sharpie and alcohol to clean off the excess. It's been a couple of years. The repair still holds up.

Cross grain scratches r a real pain. I’d try a real light stain at first and then try a bit of filler if that’s not looking good.
