Tomar is one of the nicest cities in Portugal, with 40 thousand population. The region is known for its great agricultural production. The weather is hot and dry for much of the year. Lots of good, fresh fruits and veggies and one of the most beautiful festivals in Portugal, the 'Festa dos Tabuleiros'. You can google that. Good luck! If I was a young person, I'd be moving there.

Portela de Sao Pedro is 2 hours from Porto, 1 1/2 hours to Lisboa and 3 hours to Faro, Algarve. :)
